Nonlinear (at the second-harmonic frequency of the incident light) optical reflection by two-dimensional magnetic superstructures
is theoretically studied. A square lattice of magnetic dots and a hexagonal lattice of magnetic bubbles (cylindrical magnetic
domains) are considered. Because the periods of these structures are comparable with the wavelengths of the fundamental and
the second-harmonic radiation, it would be possible to observe diffraction at the second-harmonic frequency. A polarization
analysis of nonlinearly diffracted radiation is performed and the numbers of observable diffraction orders for the above structures
are estimated.

Negative magnetic permeability of ferromagnetic materials is studied in the microwave frequency region. The magnetic permeability
is analyzed by employing the dynamic equation of motion of magnetization for different directions of the applied magnetic
field with respect to crystalline axes. In the calculations, a very thin ferromagnetic layer with the cubic magneto-crystalline
anisotropy energy is considered. It is found that there can be multiple regions of the field value in which the real component
of the dynamic permeability becomes negative. In addition, the low-field region for negative permeability can be extended
even to the zero external static magnetic field. 相似文献

The present article proposes a structure consisting of a single magnetic film enclosed in a metamaterial. This planar structure can be manufactured using conventional deposition and patterning techniques commonly utilized in the silicon industry. One example of such a structure was manufactured, and its permeability was measured in a wide frequency range and compared to the permeability of its core. Theoretical investigations of this structure were performed in order to establish its permeability as a function of the frequency, and an excellent agreement between the predicted and measured values was observed. Parametrical studies revealed that the metafilm exhibited two resonances; one below the gyromagnetic resonance frequency of the magnetic core, and one at a much higher frequency. Metafilms are attractive negative permeability materials since they exhibit large negative permeability levels within a wide frequency range, and since they are readily adjustable. In this respect, they combine the advantages of metamaterials and of their magnetic cores. 相似文献

A new approach is suggested to realize negative magnetic permeability that follows directly from quantum mechanics. It is
shown that a Λ-type three-level atomic system with proper atomic parameters can give rise to striking magnetic responses,
which could exhibit negative permeability in an optical frequency band. Both steady and transient behaviors of the magnetic
permeability in the atomic vapor are studied. The present negative-permeability vapor could be mixed with a quantum coherent
vapor whose electric permittivity is negative. Such a mixed vapor may give an isotropic left-handed vapor medium at the atomic-scale
level.

A laser-induced electric microfield in potassium vapor partially ionized by laser radiation and placed in an external magnetic
field has been studied experimentally. It was found that the dependence of the electric field rise time on the magnetic field
strength had a peak value when the plasma frequency is equal to the Larmor frequency. This finding allows us to measure the
photoelectron density in weakly ionized potassium vapor. The results are explained in terms of a simple model that shows how
the length of the photoelectron trajectory changes with the magnetic field.

A low absorptivity broadband negative refractive index metamaterial with a multi-gap split-ring and metallic cross (MSMC) structure is proposed and investigated numerically and experimentally in the microwave frequency range. The effective media parameters were retrieved from the numerical and experimental results, which clearly show that there exists a very wide frequency band where the permittivity and permeability are negative. The influence of the structure parameters on the magnetic response and the cut-off frequency of the negative permittivity are studied in detail. We experimentally demonstrate the first midinfrared (mid-IR) resonant magnetic nanostructures exhibiting a strong magnetic response corresponding to a negative permeability. This result is an important step toward the achievement of a negative refractive index in the IR. The possibility of extending negative permeability to higher frequencies is discussed; a structure with a negative effective permeability at a near-IR resonance frequency of 230 THz (1.3 microm) is proposed. 相似文献

We propose a new scheme for realizing left-handed electromagnetic properties in a coherently driven four-level system. At the presence of spontaneously generated coherence and the local field effect, both dielectric permittivity and magnetic permeability may have negative real parts of the same order in a small frequency band. Thus, one can achieve the negative refractive index and then manipulate it by modulating the coherent field or changing the atomic density. With incoherent pumping applied to have more remarkable spontaneously generated coherence, one can further obtain a wider frequency band of negative refraction and simultaneously reduce the accompanied absorption. 相似文献

The effect of magnetic field amplitude on permeability spectra was studied by using permeability spectroscopy. Results show that the permeability spectra can be greatly affected by magnetic field amplitude—they become complicated under a higher field, which means that the initial permeability increases with an increase of the applied field at first and then decreases with further increase. Meanwhile, another relaxation peak appears and the relaxation frequency increases during the same process. In addition, the permeability is improved significantly over the basic Finemet composition with appropriate substitution of Al for Nb. Moreover, the effect of annealing condition on the permeability spectra as well as the influence of eddy current was also discussed. All these phenomena were explained by using the dynamic magnetization theory and random anisotropy model. 相似文献

基于产生负介电常数的周期性金属线单元结构,利用平行金属双柱设计了具有双负通带的两种太赫兹波段二维左手材料。应用时域有限积分算法研究了二维左手材料的传输特性,仿真结果表明,在0.76THz附近,平行金属双柱的表面电荷振荡与反向平行电流引发了电磁谐振,出现良好的负折射效应。在0.75~0.78THz之间同时具有负等效磁导率和负等效介电常数,双负通带带宽约为0.03THz。进一步研究了金属双柱间距、长度及基板厚度等结构参数对双负通带带宽的影响。研究结果为太赫兹波段左手材料的设计和研制提供了参考。 相似文献

The electromagnetic propagation in a relativistic electron gas at finite temperatures and carrier densities is described. Using quantum electrodynamics at finite temperatures, electric and magnetic responses and general constitutive relations are obtained. Rewriting the propagator for the electromagnetic field in terms of the electric and magnetic responses, the modes that propagate in the gas are identified. As expected, the usual collective excitations are obtained, i.e., a longitudinal electric and two transverse magnetic plasmonic modes. In addition, a purely photonic mode is found, which satisfies the wave equation in vacuum, for which the electron gas is transparent. Dispersion relations for the plasmon modes at zero and finite temperatures are presented and the intervals of frequency and wavelength where both electric and magnetic responses are simultaneously negative are identified, a behavior previously thought not to occur in natural systems. The investigation of the electromagnetic responses of a relativistic electron gas shows that, apart from the usual longitudinal electric plasmon mode and the two transverse magnetic plasmon modes, there is also a pure photonic mode that propagates with the speed of light, as if the medium were transparent. Furthermore, there is a region of frequencies and wavenumbers of the external fields where both the longitudinal electric permittivity and magnetic permeability are simultaneously negative, a property found in artificially constructed metamaterials. 相似文献

The magnetic properties, such as initial permeability and hysteresis loop properties of the chromium substituted Li–Sb ferrite system have been investigated. The SEM micrographs reveal the microstructure of the samples. The initial permeability is observed to decrease with the increase of chromium concentration. Frequency variation of permeability indicates that for all samples the resonance peak due to domain wall oscillations is at a frequency above 15 MHz. The hysteresis loop parameters have been calculated from the hysteresis loop studies. The magnetic parameters are observed to decrease with higher level of substitution. 相似文献

Analysis shows that it is possible to make use of dispersed magnetic ripple fields to obtain a wide frequency linewidth of permeability spectra of soft magnetic thin films. As-sputtered FeCoN thin film sputtered on flexible Kapton substrate is studied as an example. It has ultrawide frequency linewidths of its resonance peaks in the permeability spectra, compared to its counterpart deposited on Si substrate. The frequency linewidth of FeCoN on Kapton substrate decreases with external magnetic field, showing a different field dependence from that of FeCoN on Si substrate. The ultrawide frequency linewidth and its decrease with external magnetic field are ascribed to the dispersed magnetic ripple fields caused by the flexible substrate. This work shows that the flexible substrate is effective in obtaining a wide frequency linewidth of the permeability spectra of soft magnetic thin films. 相似文献

The permittivity and permeability of composites filled with CrO2 powder are measured within the frequency range from 0.05 to 12 GHz. A sharp line of magnetic absorption is detected near 8 GHz. The effects of magnetic bias and remanence on the permittivity and permeability spectra are analyzed. The hysteretic behavior of dynamic permeability is observed for both parallel and perpendicular bias orientations relative to the microwave magnetic field. The effect is due to switching of the magnetic texture under bias equal to coercive field. At 50 MHz the parallel bias close to coercive field affects permeability much stronger than the perpendicular one. At 10 GHz the effect of perpendicular bias is higher than that of the parallel one. The effect of remanence on the microwave permeability is negligible. The 3 kOe parallel bias suppresses the line of magnetic absorption and decreases the conductivity of the composite and its microwave permittivity. This can be attributed to the magnetostatic interaction of inclusions in the vicinity of the percolation threshold. 相似文献

In this paper, we present theoretical and experimental results for the indication of negative refraction in ferromagnetic
metallic wire lattice. We have studied microwave transmission through a two dimensional wire lattice made of ferromagnetic
metallic wires under the applied static magnetic field. We have found that, the microwave transmission were significantly
changed at ferromagnetic resonance frequency region. Thus the magnetic permeability can be tuned by external dc magnetic field.
Since the dielectric permittivity of metallic wire lattice is negative and can take a value close to unity then the crystal

A new approach is suggested to realize simultaneous negative permittivity and permeability in a three level closed system with incoherent pumping via spontaneously generated coherence (SGC). In this system the negativity of the real part of magnetic permeability can be achieved in the presence of SGC whereas in the absence of SGC it is positive. Thus the SGC makes the system a negative index medium (NIM) in a band of frequency range. The position and the band of the frequency region of negative refraction can be manipulated by controlling the incoherent pump rate. We achieve FOM?=?7.91165. We have studied the group index in the negative refractive index region and have shown that the group velocity switches from superluminal to subluminal mode in this region of negative refraction. We have shown that the negative refractive index can be realized in a heteronuclear molecule. 相似文献

Phase coherent interactions between drift waves and zonal flows are considered. For this purpose, mode coupling equations
are derived by using a two-fluid model and the guiding center drifts. The equations are then Fourier analyzed to deduce the
nonlinear dispersion relations. The latter depict the excitation of zonal flows due to the ponderomotive forces of drift waves.
The flute-like zonal flows with insignificant density fluctuations have faster growth rates than those which have a finite
wavelength along the magnetic field direction. The relevance of our investigation to drift wave driven zonal flows in computer
simulations and laboratory plasmas is discussed.
