In this paper, a general analysis for non-linear micro-ring resonator as all optical switch is discussed in a vertically coupled GaAs–AlGaAs micro-ring resonator by carrier injection. The ring resonator is optically pumped, which results in temporal shift of resonant wavelength by refractive index change due to carrier injection. A green laser as optical pump beam is used to shift resonant wavelength 1.5 nm of the ring resonator. Simulation, analysis and overall transfer function of single ring as well as cascaded micro-ring resonator (MRR) is studied. A single circuit, consisting of three MRRs, capable to perform all the two input sixteen logic operations is studied and reported. The same circuit can also act as half adder/subtractor and single bit data comparator.  相似文献

We propose a novel optical bit-pattern recognition employing an Opto-VLSI processor in conjunction with an array of fibre Bragg gratings (FBGs) with different Bragg wavelengths and a coherent-to-incoherent light converter. The FBG array slices the spectrum of the incoherent optical header and provides wavelength-dependent time delays, whereas the Opto-VLSI processor generates wavelength intensity profiles that match specific bit patterns. The recognition of 8-bit optical patterns is experimentally demonstrated at 2.2 Gb/s by showing that the correlator produces an autocorrelation waveform of high peak whenever the input bit pattern matches the wavelength intensity profile.  相似文献

The hottest word in telecommunications technology is dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM). In this paper, a review of the DWDM component market is presented together with a worldwide forecast over the next 5 years. The most dramatic changes in telecommunications have taken place in the last several years with the advent of DWDM to exploit the potential of unlimited bandwidth on a fiber pair. Originally installed to solve the problem of fiber exhaust in long-distance networks, DWDM is becoming the leading driver to an all-topical network. DWDM is insensitive to bit rate and format and permits a telecommunications network to increase capacity without installing new fiber, and at a decreased cost with much greater flexibility. DWDM places narrowly spaced channels onto the same fiber and increases capacity on existing fiber routes by factors of 16, 32, 40, or more. DWDM has also made it possible for new carriers to enter the market using IP-based rather than circuit-switched networks at considerably lower costs.  相似文献

We report a polymer waveguide module that provides bidirectional communication over a single plastic optical fiber (POF) with dual visible wavelength LEDs. The module is constructed using light-induced self-written waveguides, which enables a three-dimensional optical circuit for visible wavelength division multiplexing to be fabricated by an extremely simple process. We demonstrated 250 Mbits/s communication using a pair of these modules that each contained one green (lambda = 495 nm) and one red (lambda = 650 nm) LEDs by measuring the bit error rates. The results indicate that the system could transmit over more than 20 m of POF in full duplex mode.  相似文献

In this paper, a spectral efficient hybrid wireless optical broadband access network (WOBAN) is proposed and demonstrated based on the transmission of wireless multi-input multi-output orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (MIMO OFDM) signals over wavelength division multiplexing passive optical network (WDM PON). By using radio over fiber (ROF) techniques, the optical fiber is well adapted to propagate multiple wireless services having different carrier frequencies. It is a known fact that multiple wireless signals having the same carrier frequency cannot propagate over a single optical fiber at the same time, such as MIMO signals feeding multiple antennas in fiber wireless (FiWi) system. A novel optical single-sideband frequency translation technique is designed and simulated to solve this problem. This technique allows four pairs of wireless MIMO OFDM signals with the same carrier frequency for each pair to be transmitted over a single optical fiber by using one optical source per wavelength. The crosstalk between the different MIMO channels with the same frequency is eliminated, since each channel is upconverted on specified wavelength with enough channel spacing between them. Also the maximum crosstalk level between the different MIMO channels with different frequencies is very low around ?76 dB. The physical layer performance of the proposed WOBAN is analyzed in terms of the bit error rate (BER), error vector magnitude (EVM), and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). The proposed WOBAN achieves 7.68 Gb/s data rate for 20 km for the optical back-end and 240 Mb/s for the outdoor wireless front-end.  相似文献

A novel multiplexing technique for fiber optic communications has been developed that supports multiple channels of optical energy inside an optical fiber by confining each individual channel to a unique spatial location. These channels can operate at exactly the same wavelength as well as differing wavelengths. The basic operating principle and experimental results for spatial domain multiplexed fiber optic communication systems is presented here. This technique adds a new dimension to currently available multiplexing schemes and has the potential to increase the bandwidth of existing and futuristic optical fiber systems by multiple folds.  相似文献

We propose and describe an all-optical prefix tree adder with the help of a terahertz optical asymmetric demultiplexer (TOAD) using a set of optical switches. The prefix tree adder is useful in compound adder implementation. It is preferred over the ripple carry adder and the carry lookahead adder. We also describe the principle and possibilities of the all-optical prefix tree adder. The theoretical model is presented and verified through numerical simulation. The new method promises higher processing speed and accuracy. The model can be extended for studying more complex all-optical circuits of enhanced functionality in which the prefix tree adder is the basic building block.  相似文献

A new design approach for a three-step modified signed-digit (MSD) adder is presented that can be optically implemented using binary logic gates. The proposed scheme depends on encoding each MSD digits into a pair of binary digits using a two-state and multi-position encoding scheme. The proposed design algorithm depends on constructing the addition truth table of binary-coded MSD numbers and then using Karnaugh map to achieve output minimization. The optical binary logic gates are obtained by simply programming the decoding masks of a shadow-casting-based optical logic gate system. The proposed scheme results in a simple, compact, and efficient optical binary gate-based parallel addition system.  相似文献

针对光码分多址(OCDMA)的多用户干扰问题,提出一种引入光硬限幅器、基于最大值判决的光码分多址并行干扰抑制系统.该系统在发送端对比特“0”和比特“1”分别使用一个地址码和它的移位变形进行映射,以避免发送比特“0”时无光脉冲通过的问题,实现并行干扰抑制;在接收端光电检测器前引入一个光硬限幅器,判决电路采用最大值判决,以避免门限判决所引起的误判,进一步减小多用户干扰.阐述了其工作原理,系统采用光正交码作为地址码,PIN光电检测器,分析推导了系统的误码率表达式,进而对新型系统的多用户干扰抑制作用进行误码性能仿真.仿真结果表明,当信号光子到达率为25时,新型系统比常规系统的误码性能改善10个数量级以上,比常规并行干扰抑制系统改善2个数量级以上.  相似文献

The transmission of 40 Gb/s wavelength multiplexed channels under vestigial single side band modulation format is transmitted over long haul optically amplified fiber systems. Bit-error-rate (BER) of 10−12 or better can be achieved across all channels. Optical filters are designed with asymmetric roll-off bands. Simulations of the transmission performance, BER versus receiver sensitivity are demonstrated with wavelength channel spacing of 20–40 GHz. An optical filter, whose passband is 28 GHz and 20 dB cut-off band, performs best for 40 Gb/s bit rate due to optimum filtering and minimum noise contribution. Furthermore the single-sideband property of VSB format can assist linear equalization by electronic processing. The transmission performance is accurately evaluated based on the eye opening using a fast statistical method based on an equivalent Gaussian probability density distribution (pdf) which is derived from multiple peaks pdf of distorted eye diagram.  相似文献

We have theoretically investigated the transmission performance of the optical mm-wave generation by using an external modulator based on single sideband (SSB) intensity modulation. Though the SSB millimeter (mm)-wave can immune the fading effect, the baseband signals with a high bit rate are degraded greatly after transmission along fiber. The main reason is that the fiber dispersion causes the time shift of the code edges; therefore the maximum transmission distance of the baseband signals is limited. The experimental and simulation results agree well with our theoretical analysis. We also propose a novel scheme to extend the transmission distance. In this novel scheme, the data signals are modulated only onto one of the two optical carriers; hence the shift of the code edges in the down-converted signals after transmission is eliminated.  相似文献

Transmission capacity for optical undersea cable systems is growing remarkably and a more than 500-fold increase has been achieved for commercial systems over the past 10 years. The first optical fiber cable in the Pacific Ocean went into service in 1989 and has a capacity of 280 Mbit/s per fiber pair. The emergence of an Erbium-doped fiber amplifier paved the way for a drastic capacity increase for these cables, and large capacity optical amplifier undersea cable systems with 5 Gbit/s per fiber pair were constructed worldwide in 1995-1996. Recent 10 Gbit/s-based wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) technologies together with new fibers and new amplifiers have allowed a further increase in capacity up to 160 Gbit/s, and these WDM systems will begin commercial service in both the Pacific Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean in 2000. Research interest is now being directed towards the development of undersea cable systems with a transmission capacity of 1 Tera-bit/s or more. This paper reviews the key technologies for next generation 160 Gbit/s optical undersea cable systems and recent progress towards Tera-bit/s systems. Dispersion managed soliton transmission for future higher bit rate WDM is also discussed.  相似文献

In this paper, a novel all-optical bit-error indicating scheme is numerically studied. The bit-error indicating function is achieved by two all-optical processing stages. Firstly, the amplified original bit stream propagates through a high-nonlinear fiber and experiences self-phase modulation which causes intensity-dependent spectrum broadening and split. And then, the bit stream output from the high-nonlinear fiber is filtered by a band-pass filter with the same central wavelength as the original bit stream to generate an error bit indicating signal. The error bit indicating signal, in which only the “Error” bits have the highest peak power, is synchronous with the delayed original bit stream. Therefore, the position of the “Error” bits in the original bit stream can be identified by setting only one judge threshold in the error bit indicating signal. The scheme is demonstrated for an 80 Gb/s bit stream with return-to-zero format by simulation. The results show that the scheme can be used for the all-optical bit-error indicating of the super high bit-rate systems using the return-to-zero format which is favored in the optical time division multiplexing transmission systems.  相似文献

We propose here a new optical modified signed-digit (MSD) adder module based on bit plane pattern encoding of MSD digits and pattern operations. The pattern operations required in the algorithm are duplication, combination and shifting. They are simply performed by using optical components such as beam splitters, mirrors and parallel plates, instead of optical logic arrays. An optical MSD adder module comprised of six properly interacting blocks with all optical components packaged on a common substrate is presented in detail. We analyze the system errors caused by manufacture and alignment of optical components, the information throughput, the intensity nonuniformity and the system volume of the adder module.  相似文献

We propose, a novel upstream transmission scheme for high speed wavelength division multiplexed passive optical networks. Upstream transmission at bit rate of 2.5 Gb/s was demonstrated using a Fabry–Perot (FP) laser diode (LD) externally injected by a spectrum-sliced polarization-insensitive supercontinuum pulse source, located at central office. The impact of Rayleigh backscattering on transmission performance is also investigated. The proposed scheme is expected to be cost-effective since low-cost FP LDs are used for light sources.  相似文献

A novel multiwavelength scheme has been demonstrated using a sampled fiber grating in semiconductor-fiber ring laser. By using semiconductor optical amplifier as an inhomogeneously broadened gain medium, three wavelength channels of 10 GHz are simultaneously generated. The number of the lasing channels can be changed through the polarization state adjustment in the cavity.  相似文献

In this paper, we have proposed a novel approach to generate optical carrier suppression (OCS) mm-wave with signal only carried by one first-order sideband using a dual-parallel MZM in radio-over-fiber (RoF) system, and the transmission performance was also investigated. As the optical mm-wave signal is transmitted along the fiber, there is no time shift of the data symbols resulting from the group velocity dispersion in the fiber because the signal is only modulated on one sideband. The simulation results showed that the eye diagram keeps open and clear even when the optical mm-wave signals are transmitted over 96-km and the power penalty is about 1-dB after fiber transmission distance of 60-km, which is quite consistent with our theoretical analysis. Furthermore, the proposed OCS optical mm-wave generation approach is also used in a full-duplex RoF link based on wavelength reuse at the base station for the uplink due to another pure sideband without carrying data. The bidirectional 2.5-Gbit/s data is successfully transmitted over 40-km standard single mode fiber with less than 0.5-dB power penalty in the simulation. Both the unidirectional RoF downlink and the full-duplex RoF system have good performance.  相似文献

以光正交频分复用信号作为光标记,利用两个不同波长的光载波分别经过强度调制,产生了10 Gb/sOOK光载荷和2.5 Gb/sOFDM光标记。测得了光分组信号经光纤传输前后接收载荷的眼图和标记的星座图以及误码率曲线,结果表明:经过40 km光纤传输后,载荷与标记的功率代价分别为1dB和0.5dB。  相似文献

A one-step algorithm for parallel negabinary addition of two negabinary numbers is achieved by minimizing the truth-table for the two-step algorithm. Without increasing the encoding cell size or adding complexity of the corresponding optical system, the proposed one-step scheme doubles the computation speed. The optical system can also be used to realize a one-step modified signed digit adder. Additionally, optical implementation of negabinary multiplication using this proposed one-step optical adder is discussed.  相似文献
