The aim of this work is to analyze the efficiency of a new sustainable urban gravity settler to avoid the solid particle transport, to improve the water waste quality and to prevent pollution problems due to rain water harvesting in areas with no drainage pavement. In order to get this objective, it is necessary to solve particle transport equations along with the turbulent fluid flow equations since there are two phases: solid phase (sand particles) and fluid phase (water). In the first place, the turbulent flow is modelled by solving the Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations for incompressible viscous flows through the finite volume method (FVM) and then, once the flow velocity field has been determined, representative particles are tracked using the Lagrangian approach. Within the particle transport models, a particle transport model termed as Lagrangian particle tracking model is used, where particulates are tracked through the flow in a Lagrangian way. The full particulate phase is modelled by just a sample of about 2,000 individual particles. The tracking is carried out by forming a set of ordinary differential equations in time for each particle, consisting of equations for position and velocity. These equations are then integrated using a simple integration method to calculate the behaviour of the particles as they traverse the flow domain. The entire FVM model is built and the design of experiments (DOE) method was used to limit the number of simulations required, saving on the computational time significantly needed to arrive at the optimum configuration of the settler. Finally, conclusions of this work are exposed.  相似文献

A numerical model of particle motion in fluid flow under the influence of hydrodynamic and magnetic forces is presented. As computational tool, a flow solver based on the Boundary Element Method is used. The Euler-Lagrange formulation of multiphase flow is considered. In the case of a particle with a magnetic moment in a nonuniform external magnetic field, the Kelvin body force acts on a single particle. The derived Lagrangian particle tracking algorithm is used for simulation of dilute suspensions of particles in viscous flows taking into account gravity, buoyancy, drag, pressure gradient, added mass and magnetophoretic force. As a benchmark test case the magnetite particle motion in cellular flow field of water is computed with and without the action of the magnetic force. The effect of the Kelvin force on particle motion and separation from the main flow is studied for a predefined magnetic field and different values of magnetic flux density. There has been a surge of work on models for coupling surface‐water with groundwater flows which is at its core the Stokes–Darcy problem, as well as methods for uncoupling the problem into subdomain, subphysics solves. The resulting (Stokes–Darcy) fluid velocity is important because the flow transports contaminants. The numerical analysis and algorithm development for the evolutionary transport problem has, however, focused on a quasi‐static Stokes–Darcy model and a single domain (fully coupled) formulation of the transport equation. This report presents a numerical analysis of a partitioned method for contaminant transport for the fully evolutionary system. The algorithm studied is unconditionally stable with one subdomain solve per step. Numerical experiments are given using the proposed algorithm that investigates the effects of the penalty parameters on the convergence of the approximations.  相似文献

Scour under a submarine pipeline can lead to structural failure; hence, a good understanding of the scour mechanism is paramount. Various numerical methods have been proposed to simulate scour, such as potential flow theory and single-phase and two-phase turbulent models. However, these numerical methods have limitations such as their reliance on calibrated empirical parameters and inability to provide detailed information. This paper investigates the use of a coupled computational fluid dynamics-discrete element method (CFD-DEM) model to simulate scour around a pipeline. The novelty of this work is to use CFD-DEM to extract detailed information, leading to new findings that enhance the current understanding of the underlying mechanisms of the scour process. The simulated scour evolution and bed profile are found to be in good agreement with published experimental results. Detailed results include the contours of the fluid velocity and fluid pressure, particle motion and velocity, fluid forces on the particles, and inter-particle forces. The sediment transport rate is calculated using the velocity of each single particle. The quantitative analysis of the bed load layer is also presented. The numerical results reveal three scour stages: onset of scour, tunnel erosion, and lee-wake erosion. Particle velocity and force distributions show that during the tunnel erosion stage, the particle motion and particle–particle interactive forces are particularly intense, suggesting that single-phase models, which are unable to account for inter-particle interactions, may be inadequate. The fluid pressure contours show a distinct pressure gradient. The pressure gradient force is calculated and found to be comparable with the drag force for the onset of scour and the tunnel erosion. However, for the lee-wake erosion, the drag force is shown to be the dominant mechanism for particle movements.  相似文献

When a semi-infinite body of homogeneous fluid initially at rest behind a vertical retaining wall is suddenly released by the removal of the barrier the resulting flow over either a horizontal or a sloping bed is referred to as a dam-break flow. When resistance to the flow is neglected the exact solution, in the case of a stable horizontal bed with or without "tail water," may be obtained on the basis of shallow-water theory via the method of characteristics and the results are well known. Discrepancies between these shallow-water based solutions and experiments have been partially accounted for by the introduction of flow resistance in the form of basal friction. This added friction significantly modifies the wave speed and flow profile near the head of the wave so that the simple exact solutions no longer apply and various asymptotic or numerical approaches must be implemented to solve these frictionally modified depth-averaged shallow-water equations. When the bed is no longer stable so that solid particles may be exchanged between the bed and the water column the dynamics of the flow becomes highly complex as the buoyancy forces vary in space and time according to the competing rates of erosion and deposition. It is our intention here to study dam-break flows over erodible sloping beds as agents of sediment transport taking into account basal friction as well as the effects of particle concentrations on flow dynamics including both erosion and deposition. We consider shallow flows over initially dry beds and investigate the effects of changes in the depositional and erosional models employed as well as in the nature of the drag acting on the flow. These models include effects hitherto neglected in such studies and offer insights into the transport of sediment in the worst case scenario of the complete and instantaneous collapse of a dam.  相似文献

In order to attain this objective, it is necessary to solve particle transport equations along with the turbulent fluid flow equations since there are two phases: solid phase (snow particles) and fluid phase (air). This paper derives a residual based interactive stochastic gradient (ISG) parameter estimation algorithm for controlled moving average (CMA) models and studied the performance of the residual based ISG algorithm under weaker conditions on statistical properties of the noise. Compared with the residual based extended stochastic gradient algorithm for identifying CMA models, the proposed ISG algorithm can give highly accurate parameter estimates by the simulation example.  相似文献

The objectives of this paper are twofold. Firstly, we formulate a system of partial differential equations that models the contamination of groundwater due to migration of dissolved contaminants through unsaturated to saturated zone. A closed form solution using the singular perturbation techniques for the flow and solute transport equations in the unsaturated zone is obtained. Indeed, the solution can be used as a tool to verify the accuracy of numerical models of water flow and solute transport. The second part of this paper, deals with how the water level in a water reserve drops due to pumping water out of a well that is some distance away.  相似文献

A multi‐block grid (MBG) based algorithm to solve the joint velocity‐frequency‐composition PDF transport equation for turbulent reactive flow is presented. The algorithm is based on a previously developed hybrid finite‐volume/particle approach which has significant advantages over stand alone particle PDF methods. Particle filtering techniques are a set of powerful and versatile simulation-based methods to perform optimal state estimation in nonlinear non-Gaussian state-space models. If the model includes fixed parameters, a standard technique to perform parameter estimation consists of extending the state with the parameter to transform the problem into an optimal filtering problem. However, this approach requires the use of special particle filtering techniques which suffer from several drawbacks. We consider here an alternative approach combining particle filtering and gradient algorithms to perform batch and recursive maximum likelihood parameter estimation. An original particle method is presented to implement these approaches and their efficiency is assessed through simulation.  相似文献

In this work, we present and analyze a mathematical model for tumor growth incorporating ECM erosion, interstitial flow, and the effect of vascular flow and nutrient transport. The model is of phase-field or diffused-interface type in which multiple phases of cell species and other constituents are separated by smooth evolving interfaces. The model involves a mesoscale version of Darcy’s law to capture the flow mechanism in the tissue matrix. Modeling flow and transport processes in the vasculature supplying the healthy and cancerous tissue, one-dimensional (1D) equations are considered. Since the models governing the transport and flow processes are defined together with cell species models on a three-dimensional (3D) domain, we obtain a 3D–1D coupled model.  相似文献

Knowledge of particle deposition is relevant in biomedical engineering situations such as computational modeling of aerosols in the lungs and blood particles in diseased arteries. To determine particle deposition distributions, one must track particles through the flow field, and compute each particle's distance to the wall as it approaches the geometric surface. For complex geometries, unstructured tetrahedral grids are a powerful tool for discretizing the model, but they complicate the particle-to-wall distance calculation, especially when non-linear mesh elements are used. In this paper, a general algorithm for finding minimum particle-to-wall distances in complex geometries constructed from unstructured tetrahedral grids will be presented. The algorithm is validated with a three-dimensional 90° bend geometry, and a comparison in accuracy is made between the use of linear and quadratic tetrahedral elements to calculate the minimum particle-to-wall distance.  相似文献

Solving transportation problems is essential in engineering and supply chain management, where profitability depends on optimal traffic flow. This study proposes risk-control approaches for two bottleneck transportation problems with random variables and preference levels to objective functions with risk parameters. Each proposed model is formulated as a multiobjective programming problem using robust-based optimization derived from stochastic chance constraints. Since it is impossible to obtain a transportation pattern that optimizes all objective functions, our proposed models are numerically solved by introducing an aggregation function for the multiobjective problem. An exact algorithm that performs deterministic equivalent transformations and introduces auxiliary problems is also developed.  相似文献

In order to reduce computational burden and improve the convergence rate of identification algorithms, an auxiliary model based multi-innovation stochastic gradient (AM-MISG) algorithm is derived for the multiple-input single-output systems by means of the auxiliary model identification idea and multi-innovation identification theory. The basic idea is to replace the unknown outputs of the fictitious subsystems in the information vector with the outputs of the auxiliary models and to present an auxiliary model based stochastic gradient algorithm, and then to derive the AM-MISG algorithm by expanding the scalar innovation to innovation vector and introducing the innovation length. The simulation example shows that the proposed algorithms work quite well.  相似文献

This paper proposes a novel particle scheme that provides convergent approximations of a weak solution of the Navier-Stokes equations for the 1-D flow of a viscous compressible fluid. Moreover, it is shown that all differential inequalities that hold for the fluid model are preserved by the particle method: mass is conserved, mechanical energy is decaying, and a modified mechanical energy functional is also decaying. The proposed particle method can be used both as a numerical method and as a method of proving existence of solutions for compressible fluid models.  相似文献

We present a stochastic trust-region model-based framework in which its radius is related to the probabilistic models. Especially, we propose a specific algorithm termed STRME, in which the trust-region radius depends linearly on the gradient used to define the latest model. The complexity results of the STRME method in nonconvex, convex and strongly convex settings are presented, which match those of the existing algorithms based on probabilistic properties. In addition, several numerical experiments are carried out to reveal the benefits of the proposed methods compared to the existing stochastic trust-region methods and other relevant stochastic gradient methods.  相似文献

This article deals with the conjugate gradient method on a Riemannian manifold with interest in global convergence analysis. The existing conjugate gradient algorithms on a manifold endowed with a vector transport need the assumption that the vector transport does not increase the norm of tangent vectors, in order to confirm that generated sequences have a global convergence property. In this article, the notion of a scaled vector transport is introduced to improve the algorithm so that the generated sequences may have a global convergence property under a relaxed assumption. In the proposed algorithm, the transported vector is rescaled in case its norm has increased during the transport. The global convergence is theoretically proved and numerically observed with examples. In fact, numerical experiments show that there exist minimization problems for which the existing algorithm generates divergent sequences, but the proposed algorithm generates convergent sequences.  相似文献

为了得到青奥会期间南京市合理有效的公交调度方案,本文针对青奥会场馆、运动员村、旅游点等附近的南京公共交通线路,建立模型与算法.首先,通过APC数据与GPS数据的匹配,对客流数据进行站点匹配预处理,根据已有客流量数据,训练小波神经网络,从而对客流分布情况进行预测,然后基于客流预测结果,采用有序聚类法,实现客流高低峰时段的合理划分.其次,详细分析调度问题的关键所在,以时段总发车次数和乘客等待时间两个因素作为目标函数,将时段最大、最小发车间隔和满载率等作为约束条件,提出基于APC和GPS的公交车辆辅助调度模型,通过遗传算法对模型进行求解,得出不同时段的发车间隔和配车次数,并对模型的性能进行评估.以南京市D7路公交运营线路的实际客流数据为例,采用MATLAB软件进行仿真实验,得出优化结果.结果表明所建模型是合理的,从而为调度时刻表的生成提供了科学的依据.  相似文献

Point mechanisms are special track elements which failures results in delays and increased operating costs. In some cases such failures cause fatalities. A new robust algorithm for fault detection of point mechanisms is developed. It detects faults by comparing what can be considered the ‘normal’ or ‘expected’ shape of some signal with respect to the actual shape observed as new data become available. The expected shape is computed as a forecast of a combination of models. The proposed system deals with complicated features of the data in the case study, the main ones being the irregular sampling interval of the data and the time varying nature of the periodic behaviour. The system models are set up in a continuous-time framework and the system has been tested on a large dataset taken from a point mechanism operating on a commercial line.  相似文献
