In this study, synthesis, characterization and electrorheological (ER) properties of polyindene (PIN) and polyindene/kaolinite composites were carried out by cationic radical polymerization using FeCl3 as the oxidizing agent. The homopolymer and composites, containing different amounts of PIN were characterized by FTIR spectroscopy, thermo‐gravimetric (TGA) analyses, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and dynamic light scattering (DLS) methods. The conductivity and dielectric properties of PIN and PIN/kaolinite composites were determined. Suspensions of PIN and PIN/kaolinite composites were prepared in silicone oil (SO), at a series of concentrations (c=5–25 m/m %). The effects of concentration, shear rate, electric field strength, frequency, temperature and promoter on ER activities of suspensions were investigated.  相似文献

This study covers the synthesis of conducting polyindole (PIN) homopolymer, poly(vinyl chloride)/polyindole (PVC/PIN) composites, and preparation of their freestanding films. PIN and composites were synthesized chemically by radicalic mechanism using FeCl3 as an initiator. Films of PVC and PVC/PIN composites were prepared by casting on glass Petri dishes. Mechanical properties of films were examined by stress–strain experiments. From FTIR spectra of polymers, it was revealed that polymerization reaction occurred by 2–3 mechanism. The conductivities of polymers at different temperatures were also measured by four‐probe technique and found in the range 10?4 to 10?5 S cm?1. Magnetic properties of the polymers were analyzed by Gouy scale measurements and were found that their conducting mechanisms are of polaron and bipolaron natures. Thermal properties of polymers were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and found that they had shown adequate thermal stability. X‐ray diffraction (XRD) spectra showed the amorphous nature of the polymers. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used for microstructural analysis. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Abstract

Organic-inorganic composites (OICs) were prepared via the in-situ polymerization of an organically (phenyl) substituted trialkoxysilane, phenyltriethoxysilane (PhTEOS), in the presence of poly(vinyl acetate) (PVAc). The mechanical reinforcement above T g previously observed in OICs of unfunctionalized organic polymers such as PVAc with acid catalyzed in-situ polymerized tetraalkoxysilane was not observed when the tetraalkoxysilane was replaced with PhTEOS. Although both systems are optically transparent and both exhibit a high degree of hydrogen bonding between the carbonyl of PVAc and the residual hydroxyls of the silicate, the polymerization of the alkoxide is different. The tetra-functional alkoxide polymerizes to form a load-supporting silicate network, leading to a high plateau in the tensile modulus above T g, whereas the trifunctional alkoxide reacts to form primarily low molecular weight oligomers. These increase the T g of the PVAc but do not provide mechanical reinforcement.  相似文献

A procedure for the formation of intimate blends of three binary polymer systems polycarbonate (PC)/poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA), PC/poly(vinyl acetate) (PVAc) and PMMA/PVAc is described. PC/PMMA, PC/PVAc, and PMMA/PVAc pairs were included in γ‐cyclodextrin (γ‐CD) channels and were then simultaneously coalesced from their common γ‐CD inclusion compounds (ICs) to obtain intimately mixed blends. The formation of ICs between polymer pairs and γ‐CD were confirmed by wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction (WAXD), fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). It was observed [solution 1H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR)] that the ratios of polymers in coalesced PC/PMMA and PC/PVAc binary blends are significantly different than the starting ratios, and PC was found to be preferentially included in γ‐CD channels when compared with PMMA or PVAc. Physical mixtures of polymer pairs were also prepared by coprecipitation and solution casting methods for comparison. DSC, solid‐state 1H NMR, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and direct insertion probe pyrolysis mass spectrometry (DIP‐MS) data indicated that the PC/PMMA, PC/PVAc, and PMMA/PVAc binary polymer blends were homogeneously mixed when they were coalesced from their ICs. A single, common glass transition temperature (Tg) recorded by DSC heating scans strongly suggested the presence of a homogeneous amorphous phase in the coalesced binary polymer blends, which is retained after thermal cycling to 270 °C. The physical mixture samples showed two distinct Tgs and 1H T values for the polymer components, which indicated phase‐separated blends with domain sizes above 5 nm, while the coalesced blends exhibited uniform 1H spin‐lattice relaxation values, indicating intimate blending in the coalesced samples. The TGA results of coalesced and physical binary blends of PC/PMMA and PC/PVAc reveal that in the presence of PC, the thermal stability of both PMMA and PVAc increases. Yet, the presence of PMMA and PVAc decreases the thermal stability of PC itself. DIP‐MS observations suggested that the degradation mechanisms of the polymers changed in the coalesced blends, which was attributed to the presence of molecular interactions between the well‐mixed polymer components in the coalesced samples. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. First, attapulgite‐Fe3O4 magnetic filler (ATP‐Fe3O4) was prepared by using a chemical precipitation method. Subsequently, graphite oxide (GO) was prepared through Hummer method, and then reduced GO (RGO) was prepared through GO reduced by chitosan (CS). Finally, a series of WPU‐RGO/ATP‐Fe3O4/CS composites were prepared by introduced RGO/ATP‐Fe3O4/CS to waterborne polyurethane. The structure and properties were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), X‐ray diffraction (XRD), vibrating sample magnetometry (VSM), thermogravimetric analysis TGA, conductivity test, and tensile test. The experimental results indicated that thermal stability and tensile strength of nanocomposites were improved with the increase of the content of RGO/ATP‐Fe3O4/CS. Meanwhile, with the increase of the RGO/ATP‐Fe3O4/CS content, the electrical and magnetic properties of WPU‐RGO/ATP‐Fe3O4/CS composites were improved. When the content of RGO/ATP‐Fe3O4/CS was 8 wt%, the electrical conductivity and the saturation magnetic strength of WPU‐RGO/ATP‐Fe3O4/CS composites were 3.1 × 10?7 S·cm?1 and 1.38 emu/g, respectively. WPU‐RGO/ATP‐Fe3O4/CS composites have excellent electrical and magnetic properties.  相似文献

Conducting polymer composites of polyvinylferrocene and polypyrrole (PVF/PPy) were synthesized chemically by the in situ polymerization of pyrrole in the presence of PVF using FeCl3 as oxidant. Acetic (CH3COOH) and boric (H3BO3) acids were used as the synthesis medium. Effects of the synthesis medium on the properties of the PVF/PPy composite were investigated. The PVF/PPy composites and homopolymers were characterized by fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) and magnetic susceptibility techniques. Conductivity measurements were performed using the four‐probe technique. We found that the conductivities of PVF/PPy‐H3BO3 (1.19 S cm?1) and PVF/PPy‐CH3COOH (4.5×10?1 S cm?1) increased relative to those of the homopolymers of PPy‐H3BO3 (2.1×10?2 S cm?1) and PPy‐CH3COOH (1.2×10?2 S cm?1) due to the interaction of PVF with the pyrrole moiety. The stability of all homopolymers and composites were investigated by thermogravimetric analysis and by conductivity measurements during heating‐cooling cycles. There was a small drop in conductivity caused by the annealing of PVF/PPy composites at 70°C. The conductivity of all samples increased with temperature and exhibited stable electrical behavior with increasing temperature. TGA analysis of samples showed that the composites were more stable than the homopolymers or PVF separately. The magnetic susceptibility values of samples were negative, except for PVF/PPy‐H3BO3. Morphology changes of the composites investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), attributed to synthesis conditions, have a significant effect on their conductivity.  相似文献

Well‐defined poly(vinyl acetate) (PVAc) and poly(N‐vinylpyrrolidone)‐co‐poly(vinyl acetate) (PNVP‐co‐PVAc) chains end‐capped by Co(acac)2 (acac=acetylacetonate) and prepared by cobalt‐mediated radical polymerization (CMRP) are grafted onto a fullerene. Homolytic Co? C bond cleavage of the polymer chain ends at 30 °C releases the polymeric radicals that add onto C60, thereby leading to the corresponding PVAc/C60 and PNVP‐co‐PVAc/C60 nanohybrids. The [polymer–Co(acac)2]/[C60] molar ratio was varied to adjust the structure of the nanohybrids, and more particularly the number of grafted arms. Finally, the potential of the hydrosoluble PVOH/C60 nanohybrids, which result from the methanolysis of the ester groups of PVAc/C60, and of the PNVP‐co‐PVAc/C60 nanohybrids as photosensitizers for photodynamic therapy (PDT), was approached. First, photobleaching tests demonstrated the ability of these nanohybrids to produce singlet oxygen upon irradiation, which can play a role in cell damage. Second, cell viability assays demonstrated that both types of nanohybrids are deprived of intrinsic cytotoxicity in the dark, whereas they promoted significant cell mortality when subjected to light treatment. The selective response of these materials to irradiation makes them promising compounds for PDT.  相似文献

A series of poly(propylene) silica‐grafted‐hyperbranched polyester nanocomposites by grafting the modified hyperbranched polyester (Boltorn? H20), possessing theoretically 50% end carboxylic groups and 50% end hydroxyl groups, which endcapped with octadecyl isocyanate (C19), onto the surface of SiO2 particles (30 nm) through 3‐glycidoxy‐propyltrimethoxysilane (GPTS) was prepared. The effect of silica‐grafted‐modified Boltorn? H20 on the mechanical properties of polypropylene (PP) was investigated by tensile and impact tests. The morphological structure of impact fracture surface and thermal behavior of the composites were determined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), respectively. The melt viscosity of composites was investigated by melt flow index (MFI). The obtained results showed that: (1) the modified Boltorn? H20 was successfully grafted onto the SiO2 surface confirmed by FT‐IR and X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis; (2) the incorporation of silica‐grafted‐modified Boltorn? H20 (3–5 wt% SiO2) greatly enhanced the notched impact strength as well the tensile strength of the composites; (3) the incorporation of silica‐grafted‐modified Boltorn? H20 had no influence on the melting temperature and crystallinity of PP phase; (4) the MFI of PP composites increased when the silica‐grafted‐modified Boltorn? H20 particles were added compared with PP/SiO2 or PP/SiO2‐GPTS composites. Copyright © 2004 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Summary: Poly(vinyl acetate) chains end‐capped by a Co(acac)2 complex [PVAc‐Co(acac)2] were prepared by bulk cobalt‐mediated radical polymerization (CMRP) of vinyl acetate and used for grafting fullerene (C60) with four PVAc arms at low temperature (30 °C). A photoactive water‐soluble poly(vinyl alcohol)/C60 nanohybrid was then prepared by hydrolysis of the PVAc arms of the nanohybrid. Because of photoactivity and very low cytotoxicity, this type of water‐soluble nanohybrid is very promising for the photodynamic cancer therapy.

Thermo‐responsive block copolymers based on poly(N‐vinylcaprolactam) (PNVCL) have been prepared by cobalt‐mediated radical polymerization (CMRP) for the first time. The homopolymerization of NVCL was controlled by bis(acetylacetonato)cobalt(II) and a molecular weight as high as 46,000 g/mol could be reached with a low polydispersity. The polymerization of NVCL was also initiated from a poly(vinyl acetate)‐Co(acac)2 (PVAc‐Co(acac)2) macroinitiator to yield well‐defined PVAc‐b‐PNVCL block copolymers with a low polydispersity (Mw/Mn = 1.1) up to high molecular weights (Mn = 87,000 g/mol), which constitutes a significant improvement over other techniques. The amphiphilic PVAc‐b‐PNVCL copolymers were hydrolyzed into unprecedented double hydrophilic poly(vinyl alcohol)‐b‐PNVCL (PVOH‐b‐PNVCL) copolymers and their temperature‐dependent solution behavior was studied by turbidimetry and dynamic light scattering. Finally, the so‐called cobalt‐mediated radical coupling (CMRC) reaction was implemented to PVAc‐b‐PNVCL‐Co(acac)2 precursors to yield novel PVAc‐b‐PNVCL‐b‐PVAc symmetrical triblock copolymers. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Hydrophobic silica aerogels were prepared via a sol‐gel process by surface modification at ambient pressure. Nonwoven fibers were distributed inside the silica aerogels as a composite to act as a supporting skeleton which increased the mechanical property of the silica aerogels. The morphology and pore structure of the composites were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and N2 adsorption analyzer. The contact angle and the adsorption capacities of the composites were also determined. The results show that silica aerogels dispersed uniformly and maintained high porosity in the aerogel‐fiber composites. They have excellent hydrophobic properties and are excellent adsorptive materials.  相似文献

Hierarchical macro‐/mesoporous N‐doped TiO2/graphene oxide (N‐TiO2/GO) composites were prepared without using templates by the simple dropwise addition mixed solution of tetrabutyl titanate and ethanol containg graphene oxide (GO) to the ammonia solution, and then calcined at 350 °C. The as‐prepared samples were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Brunauer‐Emmett‐Teller (BET) surface area, X‐ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and UV‐Vis absorption spectroscopy. The photocatalytic activity was evaluated by the photocatalytic degradation of methyl orange in an aqueous solution under visible‐light irradiation. The results show that N‐TiO2/GO composites exhibited enhanced photocatalytic activity. GO content exhibited an obvious influence on photocatalytic performance, and the optimal GO addition content was 1 wt%. The enhanced photocatalytic activity could be attributed to the synergetic effects of three factors including the improved visible light absorption, the hierarchical macro‐mesoporous structure, and the efficient charge separation by GO.  相似文献

The effects of calcium carbonate (CaCO3) and calcium sulfate (CaSO4) nanoparticles on the thermal and UV-absorbing properties of polyvinyl acetate (PVAc) were analyzed in this study. Nanoparticles of CaCO3 and CaSO4 were synthesized by in situ deposition technique. The size and shape of nanoparticles were recognized by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscope (SEM) analyses which confirmed that the particle was having a diameter of 25–33 nm. In this technique, the surface modification of nanoparticles was done by non-ionic polymeric surfactant. PVAc/CaCO3 and PVAc/CaSO4 nanocomposites film samples with an average thickness of 30 µm and in the mass ratio of nanoparticles (0–4% (w/w)) were prepared by solution mixing technique. Chemical, structural, and elemental characterizations of nanocomposites were done by, fourier transform infrared, SEM, and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy analyses, respectively. Thermal properties of pure polymer and nanocomposites were characterized through differential scanning calorimetric, thermogravimetric, and differential thermogravimetry techniques. The glass transition temperature of nanocomposites increases with increase in content of nanoparticles. It may be due to the interaction between inorganic and organic components. The thermogravimetric analysis results indicate that the thermal degradation temperatures of nanocomposites were enhanced upon the addition of nanosized inorganic fillers. The thermal results show that PVAc/CaSO4 nanocomposites were more thermally stable than PVAc/CaCO3 nanocomposites. The addition of nanoparticles affects degradation mechanism and consequently improves thermal stability of PVAc. The reduction of polymer chain mobility and the tendency of nanoparticles to eliminate free radicals were the principal effects responsible for these enhancements. The ultraviolet–visible (UV–Vis) absorbance spectra of PVAc and its nanocomposites films show that the intensity of absorbance increases with increasing filling content, suggesting that nanocomposites films have greater UV-shielding property.  相似文献

The blend system containing a poly(vinylidene fluoride/trifluoroethylene) [P(VDF/TrFE)] copolymer (68/32 mol %) and poly(vinyl acetate) (PVAc) was miscible from the results of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) studies that exhibit the presence of a single, composition‐dependent glass transition temperature (Tg) and a strong melting point depression for the semicrystalline P(VDF/TrFE) component. However, differences between the DSC and dielectric measurements, which showed a separate P(VDF/TrFE) Tg peak, suggests that the P(VDF/TrFE)/PVAc blends are actually partially miscible. Because of the lower dielectric constant of PVAc and the reduced sample crystallinity caused by the addition of PVAc, both the dielectric constant and the remanent polarization of the copolymer blends decrease with increasing PVAc content. The presence of a small amount of PVAc stabilized the anomalous ferroelectric behavior of ice–water‐quenched P(VDF/TrFE), and the blend portrayed normal polarization reversal behavior after adding only 1 wt % PVAc. The piezoelectric response suggests small changes with an increasing number of poling cycles. It is believed that PVAc affects the DE hysteresis behavior at the interface between crystalline and amorphous phases, although much work remains to be done to confirm this hypothesis. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Hybrid composites consisting of isotactic poly(propylene) (PP), sisal fiber (SF), and maleic anhydride grafted styrene‐(ethylene‐co‐butylene)‐styrene copolymer (MA‐SEBS) were prepared by melt compounding, followed by injection molding. The melt‐compounding torque behavior, thermal properties, morphology, crystal structure, and mechanical behavior of the PP/MA‐SEBS/SF composites were systematically investigated. The torque test, thermogravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetric, and scanning electron microscopic results all indicated that MA‐SEBS was an effective compatibilizer for the PP/SF composites, and there was a synergism between MA‐SEBS and PP/SF in the thermal stability of the PP/MA‐SEBS/SF composites. Wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction analysis indicated that the α form and β form of the PP crystals coexisted in the PP/MA‐SEBS/SF composites. With the incorporation of MA‐SEBS, the relative amount of β‐form PP crystals decreased significantly. Mechanical tests showed that the tensile strength and impact toughness of the PP/SF composites were generally improved by the incorporation of MA‐SEBS. The instrumented drop‐weight dart‐impact test was also used to examine the impact‐fracture behavior of these composites. The results revealed that the maximum impact force (Fmax), impact‐fracture energy (ET), total impact duration (tr), crack‐initiation time (tinit), and crack‐propagation time (tprop) of the composites all tended to increase with an increasing MA‐SEBS content. From these results, the incorporation of MA‐SEBS into PP/SF composites can retard both the crack initiation and propagation phases of the impact‐fracture process. These prolonged the crack initiation and propagation time and increased the energy consumption during impact fracture, thereby leading to toughening of PP/MA‐SEBS/SF composites. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The composites of TiO2 nanoparticles (anatase structure, average particle size 20–30 nm) as inorganic particle additive in the polystyrene (PS) were prepared by co‐rotating twin screw extruder. The structure and morphology of the composites were determined by scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and x‐ray diffraction (XRD). Titanium (Ti) element distribution on the surface of PS/TiO2 master batch was measured by energydispersive x‐ray microanalysis system. The mechanical properties such as tensile strength and Charpy impact strength were tested and revealed that reached the maximum value when the content of TiO2 nanoparticles is at 1.0 wt%. The composites possess excellent antibacterial and detoxification effect on the familiar bacillus. The antibacteria efficiency of the composites is more than 99% and its detoxification efficiency on the bacterial endotoxin is more than 90%.  相似文献

Diglycidylether of bisphenol A (DGEBA)/poly(vinyl acetate) (PVAc) blends cured with 4,4-diaminodiphenylmethane (DDM) were prepared. The miscibility and phase behavior were investigated by means of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The study results indicate that the epoxy precursor (DGEBA)/PVAc blends are clearly miscible at the entire composition and theTg values experimentally obtained are in a good agreement with those predicted by Fox equation. Cured at elevated temperature, all the DDM-cured blends underwent phase separation and display two-phase morphology. When PVAc content is more than 10 wt%, the thermoplastics-modified resins began to show a co-continuous phase structure. It is the cocontinuous structure that leads to a significantly-improved toughness inK ic. Morphologic investigation of the surfaces of fracture mechanic measurement specimens indicates that the toughening effect of the thermoplastics-modified epoxy resins may arise mainly from the ductile yielding of PVAc.  相似文献

Summary: Poly(vinyl acetate) macroinitiators end‐capped by a Co(acac)2 complex (PVAc–Co(acac)2), prepared in bulk by cobalt‐mediated radical polymerization (CMRP), are used for the controlled radical polymerization of vinyl acetate in miniemulsion to give high‐molecular‐weight polymers and high monomer conversion. Stable poly(vinyl acetate) latexes with solid contents ranging from 25 to 30 wt.‐% are prepared within unusually short reaction times (∼1 h) at low temperatures (0–30 °C).

Poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO)/LiClO4/poly(vinyl acetate) (PVAc) and PEO/LiClO4/poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP) complexes were prepared with various weight ratios of PVAc and PVP to PEO. The conductivity (σ) of the PEO/LiClO4 complex was increased in a nonlinear fashion by the presence of up to 60 wt% PVAc. PEO/LiClO4/PVAc complexes with weight percents of PVAc greater than 60 had σ's less than that of PEO/LiClO4. The σ of PEO/LiClO4 was decreased by the presence of any PVP.  相似文献

A series novel composites based on poly(L‐lactide) (PLLA) oligomer modified mesoporous silica (MCM41) homogeneous dispersed into poly(L‐lactide‐co‐trimethylene carbonate‐co‐glycolide) (PLTG) terpolymer has been successfully prepared. The structure of PLTG terpolymer was characterized by 1H NMR. The structure and properties of modified and unmodified MCM41 were attested by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA), X‐ray diffraction (XRD), N2 adsorption–desorption, scanning electron microscope (SEM), and transmission electron microscope (TEM), which demonstrated that the MCM41 was successfully grafted by the PLLA oligomer. The effect of different concentration of modified MCM41 in PLTG matrix on thermal properties, mechanical properties, and hydrophilicity was investigated by TGA, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), mechanical testing, contact angle measurement, and SEM. The results of mechanical tests showed that 5 wt% of modified MCM41 nanoparticles gave rise to optimal reinforcing effect. The tensile strength, Young's modulus, and elongation at break of the PLTG/PLLA‐MCM41 (5%) composites were 33.2 Mpa, 1.58 Gpa, and 268.7%, respectively, which were all higher than the PLTG/MCM41 (5%) composites and pristine PLTG matrix, which were due to good interfacial adhesion between the PLTG matrix and MCM41 nanoparticles. TGA and DSC have shown that 5% modified MCM41 in the PLTG increased the temperature of composite degradation and Tg. Water contact angle measurement showed the hydrophilicity of the composites increases with the increase of modified MCM41 content. The live/dead assay showed that the modified MCM41 existing on the PLTG matrix presents very excellent cytocompatibility. Therefore, the novel composite material represents promising way for bone tissue engineering application.  相似文献
