The focus of this paper is on the analysis of the boundary layer and the associated vanishing viscosity limit for two classes of flows with symmetry, namely, Plane-Parallel Channel Flows and Parallel Pipe Flows. We construct explicit boundary layer correctors, which approximate the difference between the Navier–Stokes and the Euler solutions. Using properties of these correctors, we establish convergence of the Navier–Stokes solution to the Euler solution as viscosity vanishes with optimal rates of convergence. In addition, we investigate vorticity production on the boundary in the limit of vanishing viscosity. Our work significantly extends prior work in the literature.  相似文献

The velocity–vorticity formulation of the 3D Navier–Stokes equations was recently found to give excellent numerical results for flows with strong rotation. In this work, we propose a new regularization of the 3D Navier–Stokes equations, which we call the 3D velocity–vorticity-Voigt (VVV) model, with a Voigt regularization term added to momentum equation in velocity–vorticity form, but with no regularizing term in the vorticity equation. We prove global well-posedness and regularity of this model under periodic boundary conditions. We prove convergence of the model's velocity and vorticity to their counterparts in the 3D Navier–Stokes equations as the Voigt modeling parameter tends to zero. We prove that the curl of the model's velocity converges to the model vorticity (which is solved for directly), as the Voigt modeling parameter tends to zero. Finally, we provide a criterion for finite-time blow-up of the 3D Navier–Stokes equations based on this inviscid regularization.  相似文献

We study the two‐dimensional stationary Navier–Stokes equations describing flows around a rotating disk. The existence of unique solutions is established for any rotating speed, and qualitative effects of a large rotation are described precisely by exhibiting a boundary layer structure and an axisymmetrization of the flow.  相似文献

An interaction viscous‐inviscid method for efficiently computing steady and unsteady viscous flows is presented. The inviscid domain is modeled using a finite element discretization of the full potential equation. The viscous region is modeled using a finite difference boundary layer technique. The two regions are simultaneously coupled using the transpiration approach. A time linearization technique is applied to this interactive method. For unsteady flows, the fluid is assumed to be composed of a mean or steady flow plus a harmonically varying small unsteady disturbance. Numerically exact nonreflecting boundary conditions are used for the far field conditions. Results for some steady and unsteady, laminar and turbulent flow problems are compared to linearized Navier‐Stokes or time‐marching boundary layer methods. (© 2004 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. We establish the incompressible Navier‐Stokes‐Fourier limit for solutions to the Boltzmann equation with a general cutoff collision kernel in a bounded domain. Appropriately scaled families of DiPerna‐Lions(‐Mischler) renormalized solutions with Maxwell reflection boundary conditions are shown to have fluctuations that converge as the Knudsen number goes to 0. Every limit point is a weak solution to the Navier‐Stokes‐Fourier system with different types of boundary conditions depending on the ratio between the accommodation coefficient and the Knudsen number. The main new result of the paper is that this convergence is strong in the case of the Dirichlet boundary condition. Indeed, we prove that the acoustic waves are damped immediately; namely, they are damped in a boundary layer in time. This damping is due to the presence of viscous and kinetic boundary layers in space. As a consequence, we also justify the first correction to the infinitesimal Maxwellian that one obtains from the Chapman‐Enskog expansion with Navier‐Stokes scaling. This extends the work of Golse and Saint‐Raymond [20,21] and Levermore and Masmoudi [28] to the case of a bounded domain. The case of a bounded domain was considered by Masmoudi and Saint‐Raymond [34] for the linear Stokes‐Fourier limit and Saint‐Raymond [41] for the Navier‐Stokes limit for hard potential kernels. Neither [34] nor [41] studied the damping of the acoustic waves. This paper extends the result of [34,41] to the nonlinear case and includes soft potential kernels. More importantly, for the Dirichlet boundary condition, this work strengthens the convergence so as to make the boundary layer visible. This answers an open problem proposed by Ukai [46]. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

We study a coupled algorithm for solving the two-dimensional Navier–Stokes equations in the stream function–vorticity variables. The algorithm is based on a finite-difference scheme in which the inertial terms in the vortex transport equation are taken from the lower time layer and the dissipative terms, from the upper time layer. In the linear approximation, we study the stability of this algorithm and use test computations to show its advantages when modeling flows at moderate Reynolds numbers.  相似文献

The two-dimensional incompressible fluid flow problems governed by the velocity–vorticity formulation of the Navier–Stokes equations were solved using the radial basis integral (RBIE) equation method. The RBIE is a meshless method based on the multi-domain boundary element method with overlapping subdomains. It solves at each node for the potential and its spatial derivatives. This feature of the RBIE is advantageous in solving the velocity–vorticity formulation of the Navier–Stokes equations since the calculated velocity gradients can be used to compute the vorticity that is prescribed as a boundary condition to the vorticity transport equation. The accuracy of the numerical solution was examined by solving the test problem with known analytical solution. Two benchmark problems, i.e. the lid driven cavity flow and the thermally driven cavity flow were also solved. The numerical results obtained using the RBIE showed very good agreement with the benchmark solutions.  相似文献

We consider the Navier–Stokes system with variable density and variable viscosity coupled to a transport equation for an order‐parameter c. Moreover, an extra stress depending on c and ?c, which describes surface tension like effects, is included in the Navier–Stokes system. Such a system arises, e.g. for certain models of granular flows and as a diffuse interface model for a two‐phase flow of viscous incompressible fluids. The so‐called density‐dependent Navier–Stokes system is also a special case of our system. We prove short‐time existence of strong solution in Lq‐Sobolev spaces with q>d. We consider the case of a bounded domain and an asymptotically flat layer with a combination of a Dirichlet boundary condition and a free surface boundary condition. The result is based on a maximal regularity result for the linearized system. Copyright © 2010 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider incompressible viscous fluid flows with slip boundary conditions. We first prove the existence of solutions of the unsteady Navier–Stokes equations in n‐spacial dimensions. Then, we investigate the stability, uniqueness and regularity of solutions in two and three spacial dimensions. In the compactness argument, we construct a special basis fulfilling the incompressibility exactly, which leads to an efficient and convergent spectral method. In particular, we avoid the main difficulty for ensuring the incompressibility of numerical solutions, which occurs in other numerical algorithms. We also derive the vorticity‐stream function form with exact boundary conditions, and establish some results on the existence, stability and uniqueness of its solutions. In this paper, we propose a spectral method for the vorticity‐stream function form of the Navier–Stokes equations with slip boundary conditions. The numerical solutions fulfill the incompressibility and the physical boundary conditions automatically. The stability and convergence of the proposed methods are proven. Numeric results demonstrate the efficiency of suggested algorithm. Copyright © 2011 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

We propose and analyze a two‐level method of discretizing the nonlinear Navier‐Stokes equations with slip boundary condition. The slip boundary condition is appropriate for problems that involve free boundaries, flows past chemically reacting walls, and other examples where the usual no‐slip condition u = 0 is not valid. The two‐level algorithm consists of solving a small nonlinear system of equations on the coarse mesh and then using that solution to solve a larger linear system on the fine mesh. The two‐level method exploits the quadratic nonlinearity in the Navier‐Stokes equations. Our error estimates show that it has optimal order accuracy, provided that the best approximation to the true solution in the velocity and pressure spaces is bounded above by the data. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. In this study, we consider a viscous compressible model of plasma and semiconductors, which is expressed as a compressible Navier‐Stokes‐Poisson equation. We prove that there exists a strong solution to the boundary value problem of the steady compressible Navier‐Stokes‐Poisson equation with large external forces in bounded domain, provided that the ratio of the electron/ions mass is appropriately small. Moreover, the zero‐electron‐mass limit of the strong solutions is rigorously verified. The main idea in the proof is to split the original equation into 4 parts, a system of stationary incompressible Navier‐Stokes equations with large forces, a system of stationary compressible Navier‐Stokes equations with small forces, coupled with 2 Poisson equations. Based on the known results about linear incompressible Navier‐Stokes equation, linear compressible Navier‐Stokes, linear transport, and Poisson equations, we try to establish uniform in the ratio of the electron/ions mass a priori estimates. Further, using Schauder fixed point theorem, we can show the existence of a strong solution to the boundary value problem of the steady compressible Navier‐Stokes‐Poisson equation with large external forces. At the same time, from the uniform a priori estimates, we present the zero‐electron‐mass limit of the strong solutions, which converge to the solutions of the corresponding incompressible Navier‐Stokes‐Poisson equations.  相似文献

The zero‐viscosity limit for an initial boundary value problem of the linearized Navier‐Stokes equations of a compressible viscous fluid in the half‐plane is studied. By means of the asymptotic analysis with multiple scales, we first construct an approximate solution of the linearized problem of the Navier‐Stokes equations as the combination of inner and boundary expansions. Next, by carefully using the technique on energy methods, we show the pointwise estimates of the error term of the approximate solution, which readily yield the uniform stability result for the linearized Navier‐Stokes solution in the zero‐viscosity limit. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

Least‐squares mixed finite element schemes are formulated to solve the evolutionary Navier‐Stokes equations and the convergence is analyzed. We recast the Navier‐Stokes equations as a first‐order system by introducing a vorticity flux variable, and show that a least‐squares principle based on L2 norms applied to this system yields optimal discretization error estimates. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We investigate the uniform regularity and vanishing viscosity limit for the incompressible chemotaxis‐Navier‐Stokes system with Navier boundary condition for velocity field and Neumann boundary condition for cell density and chemical concentration in a 3D bounded domain. It is shown that there exists a unique strong solution of the incompressible chemotaxis‐Navier‐Stokes system in a finite time interval, which is independent of the viscosity coefficient. Moreover, this solution is uniformly bounded in a conormal Sobolev space, which allows us to take the vanishing viscosity limit to obtain the incompressible chemotaxis‐Euler system.  相似文献

In this paper, we justify the mathematical validity of the Prandtl boundary layer theory for a class of nonlinear parallel pipe flow of nonhomogeneous incompressible Navier‐Stokes equations. The convergence for velocity is shown under various Sobolev norms. In addition, the higher‐order asymptotic expansions are also considered. And the mathematical validity of the Prandtl boundary layer theory for nonlinear parallel pipe flow is generalized to the nonhomogeneous case.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the asymptotic behavior for the incompressible anisotropic Navier–Stokes equations with the non-slip boundary condition in a half space of ${\mathbb{R}^3}$ when the vertical viscosity goes to zero. Firstly, by multi-scale analysis, we formally deduce an asymptotic expansion of the solution to the problem with respect to the vertical viscosity, which shows that the boundary layer appears in the tangential velocity field and satisfies a nonlinear parabolic–elliptic coupled system. Also from the expansion, it is observed that away from the boundary the solution of the anisotropic Navier–Stokes equations formally converges to a solution of a degenerate incompressible Navier–Stokes equation. Secondly, we study the well-posedness of the problems for the boundary layer equations and then rigorously justify the asymptotic expansion by using the energy method. We obtain the convergence results of the vanishing vertical viscosity limit, that is, the solution to the incompressible anisotropic Navier–Stokes equations tends to the solution to degenerate incompressible Navier–Stokes equations away from the boundary, while near the boundary, it tends to the boundary layer profile, in both the energy space and the L space.  相似文献

The present paper is concerned with the quasi-neutral and zero-viscosity limits of Navier–Stokes–Poisson equations in the half-space. We consider the Navier-slip boundary condition for velocity and Dirichlet boundary condition for electric potential. By means of asymptotic analysis with multiple scales, we construct an approximate solution of the Navier–Stokes–Poisson equations involving two different kinds of boundary layer, and establish the linear stability of the boundary layer approximations by conormal energy estimate.  相似文献

In this per, we consider a special class of initial data for the three‐dimensional incompressible Navier–Stokes equations with gravity. We show that, under such conditions, the incompressible Navier‐Stokes equations with gravity are globally well posed, and the velocity minus gravity term has finite energy. The important features of the initial data is that the velocity fields minus gravity term are almost parallel to the corresponding vorticity fields in a very large space domain. In this paper, we consider an initial boundary value problem for the 3‐dimensional nonhomogeneous incompressible magnetohydrodynamic equations with density‐dependent viscosity and resistivity coefficients over a bounded smooth domain. Global in time unique strong solution is proved to exist when the L2 norms of initial vorticity and current density are both suitably small with arbitrary large initial density, and the vacuum of initial density is also allowed. Finally, we revisit the Navier‐Stokes model without electromagnetic effect. We find that this initial boundary problem also admits a unique global strong solution under other conditions. In particular, we prove small kinetic‐energy strong solution exists globally in time, which extends the recent result of Huang and Wang.  相似文献
