A series of zinc phthalocyanine sensitizers ( PcS22 – 24 ) having a pyridine anchoring group are designed and synthesized to investigate the structural dependence on performance in dye‐sensitized solar cells. The pyridine‐anchor zinc phthalocyanine sensitizer PcS23 shows 79 % incident‐photon to current‐conversion efficiency (IPCE) and 6.1 % energy conversion efficiency, which are comparable with similar phthalocyanine dyes having a carboxylic acid anchoring group. Based on DFT calculations, the high IPCE is attributed with the mixture of an excited‐state molecular orbital of the sensitizer and the orbitals of TiO2. Between pyridine and carboxylic acid anchor dyes, opposite trends are observed in the linker‐length dependence of the IPCE. The red‐absorbing PcS23 is applied for co‐sensitization with a carboxyl‐anchor organic dye D131 that has a complementary spectral response. The site‐selective adsorption of PcS23 and D131 on the TiO2 surface results in a panchromatic photocurrent response for the whole visible‐light region of sun light.  相似文献

Two low‐symmetry phthalocyanines (Pcs) substituted with thiophene units at the non‐peripheral (α) and peripheral (β) positions were synthesized and their optical, electronic‐structure, and electrochemical properties were investigated. The substitution of thiophene units at the α positions of the phthalocyanine skeleton resulted in a red shift of the Q band and significantly modified the molecular‐orbital electronic distributions just below the HOMO and just above the LUMO, with distortion of the typical Gouterman four‐orbital arrangement of MOs. Two amphiphilic Ω‐shaped ZnPcs ( αPcS1 and αPcS2 ) bearing a π‐conjugated side chain with an adsorption site at an α position of the Pc macrocycle were synthesized as sensitizers for dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). The absorption spectra of αPcS1 and αPcS2 showed red shifted Q bands and a broad band from 350 to 550 nm assignable to the intramolecular charge‐transfer transition from the ZnPc core to the side chains. Time‐dependent DFT calculations provided a clear interpretation of the effect of the thiophene conjugation on the typical phthalocyanine core π MOs. Compound αPcS1 was used as a light‐harvesting dye on a TiO2 electrode for a DSSC, which showed a panchromatic response in the range 400–800 nm with a power conversion efficiency of 5.5 % under one‐sun conditions.  相似文献

The effects of the dye‐adsorption solvent on the performances of the dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) based on black dye have been investigated. The highest conversion efficiency (10.6 %) was obtained in the cases for which 1‐PrOH and the mixed solvent of EtOH and tBuOH (3:1 v/v) were employed as dye‐adsorption solvents. The optimized value for the dielectric constant of the dye‐adsorption solvent was found to be around 20. The DSSCs that used MeOH as a dye‐adsorption solvent showed inferior solar‐cell performance relative to the DSSCs that used EtOH, 1‐PrOH, 2‐PrOH, and 1‐BuOH. Photo‐ and electrochemical measurements of black dye both in solution and adsorbed onto the TiO2 surface revealed that black dye aggregates at the TiO2 surface during the adsorption process in the case for MeOH. Both the shorter electron lifetime in the TiO2 photoelectrode and the greater resistance in the TiO2–dye–elecrolyte interface, attributed to the dye aggregation at the TiO2 surface, cause the decrease in the solar‐cell performance of the DSSC that used MeOH as a dye adsorption solvent.  相似文献

In this study, nonperipherally tetra‐substituted ( 2 ), peripherally tetra‐substituted ( 3 ), and peripherally octa‐substituted ( 4 ) zinc(II) phthalocyanines were synthesized as sensitizers for dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) in which 3‐pyridin‐3‐ylpropoxy substituent acts as anchoring unit to bind TiO2 surface. The optical results indicated that there is an interaction between the dyes and the TiO2 surface. The photovoltaic performances of the DSSCs based on these dyes were found to depend on both the position and number of the substituents. Despite the more red‐shifted absorption, the DSSC based on 2 showed the conversion efficiency of 0.68%, which is lower than 1.36% and 0.92% for 3 and 4 , respectively, under one sun (AM 1.5G). The vertical orientation of the dye on TiO2 surface could be the main reason for the higher photovoltaic performance of complex 3 , which is beneficial for not only injecting the electrons into the conduction band of TiO2 but also reducing the charge recombination. Overall, these results demonstrate that the peripherally tetra‐substituted 3‐pyridin‐3‐ylpropoxy zinc(II) phthalocyanine complex ( 3 ) as a sensitizer can more efficiently utilize the photons in the red/near‐infrared region with respect to the other complexes studied.  相似文献

A novel class of dyes, namely benzoporphyrins, was synthesized and implemented into dye‐sensitized solar cells. They feature complementary absorptions compared to N719 , which renders them promising candidates for co‐sensitization in DSSCs. Notably, metallated benzoporphyrins reveal a TiO2–nanoparticle attachment that is size and aggregation dependent. Therefore, unproductive energy‐transfer events between the selectively attached dyes can be prevented. In light of the latter, an efficiency improvement of 39 % has been achieved upon selective adsorption of benzoporphyrins and N719 onto different layers of TiO2 photoelectrode.  相似文献

The efficient electron injection by direct dye‐to‐TiO2 charge transfer and strong adhesion of mussel‐inspired synthetic polydopamine (PDA) dyes with TiO2 electrode is demonstrated. Spontaneous self‐polymerization of dopamine using dip‐coating (DC) and cyclic voltammetry (CV) in basic buffer solution were applied to TiO2 layers under a nitrogen atmosphere, which offers a facile and reliable synthetic pathway to make the PDA dyes, PDA‐DC and PDA‐CV, with conformal surface and perform an efficient dye‐to‐TiO2 charge transfer. Both synthetic methods led to excellent photovoltaic results and the PDA‐DC dye exhibited larger current density and efficiency values than those in the PDA‐CV dye. Under simulated AM 1.5 G solar light (100 mW cm?2), a PDA‐DC dye exhibited a short circuit current density of 5.50 mW cm?2, corresponding to an overall power conversion efficiency of 1.2 %, which is almost 10 times that of the dopamine dye‐sensitized solar cell. The PDA dyes showed strong adhesion with the nanocrystalline TiO2 electrodes and the interface engineering of a dye‐adsorbed TiO2 surface through the control of the coating methods, reaction times and solution concentration maximized the overall conversion efficiency, resulting in a remarkably high efficiency.  相似文献

The inverse‐micellar preparation of Si nanoparticles (Nps) was improved by utilizing sodium naphthalide. The Si Nps were subsequently functionalized with 4‐vinylbenzoic acid for their attachment onto TiO2 films of dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). The average diameter of the COOH‐functionalized Si (Si? COOH) Nps was 4.6(±1.7) nm. Depth profiling by secondary‐ion mass spectrometry revealed that the Si Nps were uniformly attached onto the TiO2 films. The number of RuII dye molecules adsorbed onto a TiO2 film that was treated with the Si? COOH Nps was 42 % higher than that on the untreated TiO2 film. As a result, DSSCs that incorporated the Si? COOH Nps exhibited higher short‐circuit photocurrent density and an overall energy‐conversion efficiency than the untreated DSSCs by 22 % and 27 %, respectively. This enhanced performance, mostly owing to the intramolecular charge‐transfer to TiO2 from the dye molecules that were anchored to the Si? COOH Nps, was confirmed by comparing the performance with two different RuII–bipyridine dyes (N719 and N749).  相似文献

Owing to well‐defined structural parameters and enhanced electronic properties, highly ordered TiO2 nanotube arrays have been employed to substitute TiO2 nanoparticles for use in dye‐sensitized solar cells. To further improve the performance of dye‐sensitized TiO2 nanotube solar cells, efforts have been directed toward the optimization of TiO2 photoanodes, dyes, electrolytes, and counter electrodes. Herein, we highlight recent progress in rational structural and surface engineering on anodic TiO2 nanotube arrays and their effects on improving the power conversion efficiency of dye‐sensitized TiO2 nanotube solar cells.  相似文献

A non‐covalent double‐decker binding strategy is employed to construct functional supramolecular single‐wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNT)–tetrapyrrole hybrids capable of undergoing photoinduced electron transfer and performing direct conversion of light into electricity. To accomplish this, two semiconducting SWCNTs of different diameters (6,5 and 7,6) were modified via π–π stacking of pyrene functionalized with an alkyl ammonium cation (PyrNH3+). Such modified nanotubes were subsequently assembled via dipole–cation binding of zinc porphyrin with one ( 1 ) or four benzo‐18‐crown‐6 cavities ( 2 ) or phthalocyanine with four benzo‐18‐crown‐6 cavities at the ring periphery ( 3 ), employed as visible‐light photosensitizers. Upon charactering the conjugates using TEM and optical techniques, electron transfer via photoexcited zinc porphyrin and phthalocyanine was investigated using time‐resolved emission and transient absorption techniques. Higher charge‐separation efficiency is established for SWCNT(7,6) with a narrow band gap than the thin SWCNT(6,5) with a wide band gap. Photoelectrochemical studies using FTO/SnO2 electrodes modified with these donor–acceptor conjugates unanimously demonstrated the ability of these conjugates to convert light energy into electricity. The photocurrent generation followed the trend observed for charge separation, that is, incident‐photon‐to‐current efficiency (IPCE) of a maximum of 12 % is achieved for photocells with FTO/SnO2/SWCNT(7,6)/PyrNH3+: 1 .  相似文献

The integration of fast electron transport and large effective surface area is critical to attaining higher gains in the nanostructured photovoltaic devices. Here, we report facilitated electron transport in the quasi‐two‐dimensional (Q2D) porous TiO2. Liquid electrolyte dye‐sensitized solar cells were prepared by utilizing photoanodes based on the Q2D porous substructures. Due to electron confinement in a microscale porous medium, directional diffusion toward collecting electrode is induced into the electron transport. Our measurements based on the photocurrent and photovoltage time‐of‐flight transients show that at higher Fermi levels, the electron diffusion coefficient in the Q2D porous TiO2 is about one order of magnitude higher when compared with the conventional layer of porous TiO2. The results show that microstructuring of the porous TiO2 leads to an approximately threefold improvement in the electron diffusion length. Such a modification may considerably affects the electrical functionality of moderate or low performance dye‐sensitized solar cells for which the internal gain or collection efficiency is typically low.  相似文献

In this work, high‐performance dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) based on new low‐cost visible nickel complex dye (VisDye), TiO2 nanoparticle/nanotube composites electrodes, carbon nanoparticles counter electrodes, and ionic liquids electrolytes have been fabricated. The electronic structure, optical spectroscopy, and electrochemical properties of the VisDye were studied. Experimental results indicate that it is beneficial to improve the electron transport and power conversion efficiency using the nickel complex VisDye and TiO2 nanoparticle/nanotube composites. Under optimized conditions, the solar energy conversion efficiencies were measured. The short‐circuit current density (JSC), the open‐circuit voltage (VOC), the fill factor (FF), and the overall efficiency (η) of the DSSCs are 10.01 mA/cm2, 516 mV, 0.68, and 3.52%, respectively. This study demonstrates that the combination of new VisDye with TiO2 nanoparticle/nanotube composites electrodes and carbon nanoparticles counter electrodes provide a way to fabricate highly efficient dye‐sensitized solar cells in low‐cost production.  相似文献

A novel class of β‐functionalized push–pull zinc opp ‐dibenzoporphyrins were designed, synthesized, and utilized as sensitizers for dye‐sensitized solar cells. Spectral, electrochemical, and computational studies were systematically performed to evaluate their spectral coverage, redox behavior, and electronic structures. These porphyrins displayed much broader spectral coverage and more facile oxidation upon extension of the π conjugation. Free‐energy calculations and femtosecond transient absorption studies (charge injection rate in the range of 1011 s−1) suggested efficient charge injection from the excited singlet state of the porphyrin to the conduction band of TiO2. The power conversion efficiency (η ) of YH3 bearing acrylic acid linkers (η =5.9 %) was close to that of the best ruthenium dye N719 (η =7.4 %) under similar conditions. The superior photovoltaic performance of YH3 was attributed to its higher light‐harvesting ability and more favorable electron injection and collection, as supported by electrochemical impedance spectral studies. This work demonstrates the exceptional potential of benzoporphyrins as sensitizers for dye‐sensitized solar cells.  相似文献

A facile way of controlling the structure of TiO2 by changing the amount of water to improve the efficiency of dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) is reported. Hierarchically ordered TiO2 films with high porosity and good interconnectivity are synthesized in a well‐defined morphological confinement arising from a one‐step self‐assembly of preformed TiO2 (pre‐TiO2) nanocrystals and a graft copolymer, namely poly(vinyl chloride)‐g‐poly(oxyethylene methacrylate). The polymer–solvent interactions in solution, which are tuned by the amount of water, are shown to be a decisive factor in determining TiO2 morphology and device performance. Systematic control of wall and pore size is achieved and enables the bifunctionality of excellent light scattering properties and easy electron transport through the film. These properties are characterized by reflectance spectroscopy, incident photon‐to‐electron conversion efficiency, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy analyses. The TiO2 photoanode that is prepared with a higher water ratio, [pre‐TiO2]:[H2O]=1:0.3, shows a larger surface area, greater light scattering, and better electron transport, which result in a high efficiency (7.7 %) DSSC with a solid polymerized ionic liquid. This efficiency is much greater than that of commercially available TiO2 paste (4.0 %).  相似文献

The effect of the number and arrangement of TiO2‐based photoanode layers on the efficiency of dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) was investigated. Compact, mesoporous, and blocking layers of TiO2 were prepared to form monolayer, bilayer, and trilayer photoanodes. Compact and blocking TiO2 layers were prepared using dip‐coating technique, whereas the doctor‐blade method was employed to prepare TiO2 paste layers using nanoparticles prepared by the sol–gel method. The crystalline structure of photoanodes was characterized by X‐ray diffraction (XRD) measurements and their morphology and thickness were characterized by the scanning electron microscopy (SEM) technique. The photovoltaic performance of constructed DSSC devices was investigated and the optimum arrangement was identified and explained in terms of dye loading enhancement and recombination reduction at the fluorine‐doped tin oxide (FTO)/electrolyte interface.  相似文献

A nitrogen‐doped TiO2 (N‐TiO2) nanowire film was synthesized via a one‐pot hydrothermal method using triethylamine as nitrogen source. The effect of the concentration of the triethylamine on the films was evaluated. In addition, the N‐TiO2 nanowires were characterized using field‐emission scanning electron microscopy (FE‐SEM), X‐ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Raman spectroscopy, and ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy. A 3.2× enhancement of the photocurrent for N‐TiO2 (0.6) was achieved over the as‐prepared TiO2 nanowire, under AM1.5G solar illumination. This was due to nitrogen doping, which could narrow the bandgap of titania to extend the adsorption of the catalyst to the visible light region.  相似文献

Three‐dimensional hierarchical TiO2 nanorods (HTNs) decorated with the N719 dye and 3‐mercaptopropionic or oleic acid capped CdSe quantum dots (QDs) in photoanodes for the construction of TiO2 nanorod‐based efficient co‐sensitized solar cells are reported. These HTN co‐sensitized solar cells showed a maximum power‐conversion efficiency of 3.93 %, and a higher open‐circuit voltage and fill factor for the photoanode with 3‐mercaptopropionic acid capped CdSe QDs due to the strong electronic interactions between CdSe QDs, N719 dye and HTNs, and the superior light‐harvesting features of the HTNs. An electrochemical impedance analysis indicated that the superior charge‐collection efficiency and electron diffusion length of the CdSe QD‐coated HTNs improved the photovoltaic performance of these HTN co‐sensitized solar cells.  相似文献

Anatase TiO2 nanorods with large specific surface areas and high crystallinity have been synthesized by surfactant‐free hydrothermal treatment of water‐soluble peroxotitanium acid (PTA). X‐ray diffraction and TEM analysis showed that all TiO2 nanorods derived from PTA in different hydrothermal processes were in the anatase phase, and high aspect ratio TiO2 nanorods with chain‐shaped structures were formed at 150 °C for 24 h by oriented growth. The nanorods were fabricated as photoanodes for high‐efficiency dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). DSSCs fabricated from the chain‐shaped TiO2 nanorods gave a highest short‐circuit current density of 14.8 mA cm?2 and a maximum energy conversion efficiency of 7.28 %, as a result of the presence of far fewer surface defects and grain boundaries than are present in commercial P25 TiO2 nanoparticles. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy also confirmed that DSSCs based on the TiO2 nanorods have enhanced electron transport properties and a long electron lifetime.  相似文献

Intensity‐modulated photocurrent spectroscopy and intensity‐modulated photovoltage spectroscopy are employed to measure the dynamics of electron transport and recombination in the ZnO nanowire (NW) array‐ZnO/layered basic zinc acetate (LBZA) nanoparticle (NP) composite dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). The roles of the vertical ZnO NWs and insulating LBZA in the electron collection and transport in DSSCs are investigated by comparing the results to those in the TiO2–NP, horizontal TiO2–NW and vertical ZnO–NW‐array DSSCs. The electron transport rate and electron lifetime in the ZnO NW/NP composite DSSC are superior to those in the conventional TiO2–NP cell due to the existence of the vertical ZnO NWs and insulating LBZA. It indicates that the ZnO NW/NP composite anode is able to sustain efficient electron collection over much greater thickness than the TiO2–NP cell does. Consequently, a larger effective electron diffusion length is available in the ZnO composite DSSC.  相似文献

To improve the electron collection, electron lifetime, and light‐harvesting efficiency of dye‐sensitized solar cells simultaneously, Au nanoflowers were prepared and used to cover the entire TiO2 film. Deposition of Au nanoflowers around the TiO2 film formed a light‐scattering “box” that covered the entire TiO2 film. Compared with a light‐scattering layer that only covers the top surface of TiO2, the Au‐nanoflowers box exhibited better light‐harvesting efficiency due to omnidirectional light scattering, faster electron transport (attributed to the formation of electron channels between the metallic Au nanoflowers and the electron‐collection electrode), and slower charge recombination. As a consequence, the short‐circuit photocurrent and open‐circuit photovoltage were both enhanced significantly, which improved the power conversion efficiency from 8.12 to 10.91 % (34 %) when an Au‐nanoflowers box was wrapped around the photoanode.  相似文献

We report DFT studies on some perylene‐based dyes for their electron transfer properties in solar cell applications. The study involves modeling of different donor‐π‐acceptor type sensitizers, with perylene as the donor, furan/pyrrole/thiophene as the π‐bridge and cyanoacrylic group as the acceptor. The effect of different π‐bridges and various substituents on the perylene donor was evaluated in terms of opto‐electronic and photovoltaic parameters such as HOMO‐LUMO energy gap, λmax, light harvesting efficiency(LHE), electron injection efficiency (Øinject), excited state dye potential (Edye*), reorganization energy(λ), and free energy of dye regeneration (). The effect of various substituents on the dye–I2 interaction and hence recombination process was also evaluated. We found that the furan‐based dimethylamine derivative exhibits a better balance of the various optical and photovoltaic properties. Finally, we evaluated the overall opto‐electronic and transport parameters of the TiO2‐dye assembly after anchoring the dyes on the model TiO2 cluster assembly.  相似文献
