In this work, high‐performance dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) based on new low‐cost visible nickel complex dye (VisDye), TiO2 nanoparticle/nanotube composites electrodes, carbon nanoparticles counter electrodes, and ionic liquids electrolytes have been fabricated. The electronic structure, optical spectroscopy, and electrochemical properties of the VisDye were studied. Experimental results indicate that it is beneficial to improve the electron transport and power conversion efficiency using the nickel complex VisDye and TiO2 nanoparticle/nanotube composites. Under optimized conditions, the solar energy conversion efficiencies were measured. The short‐circuit current density (JSC), the open‐circuit voltage (VOC), the fill factor (FF), and the overall efficiency (η) of the DSSCs are 10.01 mA/cm2, 516 mV, 0.68, and 3.52%, respectively. This study demonstrates that the combination of new VisDye with TiO2 nanoparticle/nanotube composites electrodes and carbon nanoparticles counter electrodes provide a way to fabricate highly efficient dye‐sensitized solar cells in low‐cost production.  相似文献

Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and transient voltage decay measurements are applied to compare the performance of dye sensitized solar cells (DSCs) using organic electrolytes, ionic liquids and organic‐hole conductors as hole transport materials (HTM). Nano‐crystalline titania films sensitized by the same heteroleptic ruthenium complex NaRu(4‐carboxylic acid‐4′‐carboxylate) (4,4′‐dinonyl‐2,2′‐bipyridyl)(NCS)2 , coded Z‐907Na are employed as working electrodes. The influence of the nature of the HTM on the photovoltaic figures of merit, that is, the open circuit voltage, short circuit photocurrent and fill factor is evaluated. In order to derive the electron lifetime, as well as the electron diffusion coefficient and charge collection efficiency, EIS measurements are performed in the dark and under illumination corresponding to realistic photovoltaic operating conditions of these mesoscopic solar cells. A theoretical model is established to interpret the frequency response off the impedance under open circuit conditions, which is conceptually similar to photovoltage transient decay measurements. Important information on factors that govern the dynamics of electron transport within the nanocrystalline TiO2 film and charge recombination across the dye sensitized heterojunction is obtained.  相似文献

Intensity‐modulated photocurrent spectroscopy and intensity‐modulated photovoltage spectroscopy are employed to measure the dynamics of electron transport and recombination in the ZnO nanowire (NW) array‐ZnO/layered basic zinc acetate (LBZA) nanoparticle (NP) composite dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). The roles of the vertical ZnO NWs and insulating LBZA in the electron collection and transport in DSSCs are investigated by comparing the results to those in the TiO2–NP, horizontal TiO2–NW and vertical ZnO–NW‐array DSSCs. The electron transport rate and electron lifetime in the ZnO NW/NP composite DSSC are superior to those in the conventional TiO2–NP cell due to the existence of the vertical ZnO NWs and insulating LBZA. It indicates that the ZnO NW/NP composite anode is able to sustain efficient electron collection over much greater thickness than the TiO2–NP cell does. Consequently, a larger effective electron diffusion length is available in the ZnO composite DSSC.  相似文献

Three‐dimensional hierarchical TiO2 nanorods (HTNs) decorated with the N719 dye and 3‐mercaptopropionic or oleic acid capped CdSe quantum dots (QDs) in photoanodes for the construction of TiO2 nanorod‐based efficient co‐sensitized solar cells are reported. These HTN co‐sensitized solar cells showed a maximum power‐conversion efficiency of 3.93 %, and a higher open‐circuit voltage and fill factor for the photoanode with 3‐mercaptopropionic acid capped CdSe QDs due to the strong electronic interactions between CdSe QDs, N719 dye and HTNs, and the superior light‐harvesting features of the HTNs. An electrochemical impedance analysis indicated that the superior charge‐collection efficiency and electron diffusion length of the CdSe QD‐coated HTNs improved the photovoltaic performance of these HTN co‐sensitized solar cells.  相似文献

One‐dimensional (1D) TiO2 nanostructures are desirable as photoanodes in dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) due to their superior electron‐transport capability. However, making use of the DSSC performance of 1D rutile TiO2 photoanodes remains challenging, mainly due to the small surface area and consequently low dye loading. Herein, a new type of photoanode with a three‐dimensional (3D) rutile‐nanorod‐based network structure directly grown on fluorine‐doped tin oxide (FTO) substrates was developed by using a facile two‐step hydrothermal process. The resultant photoanode possesses oriented rutile nanorod arrays for fast electron transport as the bottom layer and radially packed rutile head‐caps with an improved large surface area for efficient dye adsorption. The diffuse reflectance spectra showed that with the radially packed top layer, the light‐harvesting efficiency was increased due to an enhanced light‐scattering effect. A combination of electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), dark current, and open‐circuit voltage decay (OCVD) analyses confirmed that the electron‐recombiantion rate was reduced on formation of the nanorod‐based 3D network for fast electron transport. As a resut, a light‐to‐electricity conversion efficiency of 6.31 % was achieved with this photoanode in DSSCs, which is comparable to the best DSSC efficiencies that have been reported to date for 1D rutile TiO2.  相似文献

A series of zinc–phthalocyanine sensitizers ( PcS16 – 18 ) with different adsorption sites have been designed and synthesized in order to investigate the dependence of adsorption‐site structures on the solar‐cell performances in zinc–phthalocyanine based dye‐sensitized solar cells. The change of adsorption site affected the electron injection efficiency from the photoexcited dye into the nanocrystalline TiO2 semiconductor, as monitored by picosecond time‐resolved fluorescence spectroscopy. The zinc–phthalocyanine sensitizer PcS18 , possessing one carboxylic acid directly attached to the ZnPc ring and six 2,6‐diisopropylphenoxy units, showed a record power conversion efficiency value of 5.9 % when used as a light‐harvesting dye on a TiO2 electrode under one simulated solar condition.  相似文献

Four D ‐π‐A dyes (D=donor, A=accpetor) based on a 3,4‐thienothiophene π‐bridge were synthesized for use in dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSCs). The proaromatic building block 3,4‐thienothiophene is incorporated to stabilize dye excited‐state oxidation potentials. This lowering of the excited‐state energy levels allows for deeper absorption into the NIR region with relatively low molecular weight dyes. The influence of proaromatic functionality is probed through a computational analysis of optimized bond lengths and nucleus independent chemical shifts (NICS) for both the ground‐ and excited‐ states. To avoid a necessary lowering of the TiO2 semiconductor conduction band (CB) to promote efficient dye–TiO2 electron injection, strong donor functionalities based on triaryl‐ and diarylamines are employed in the dye designs to raise both the ground‐ and excited‐state oxidation potentials of the dyes. Solubility, aggregation, and TiO2 surface protection are addressed by examining an ethylhexyl alkyl chain in comparison to a simple ethyl chain on the 3,4‐thienothiophene bridge. Power conversion efficiencies of up to 7.8 % are observed.  相似文献

Owing to well‐defined structural parameters and enhanced electronic properties, highly ordered TiO2 nanotube arrays have been employed to substitute TiO2 nanoparticles for use in dye‐sensitized solar cells. To further improve the performance of dye‐sensitized TiO2 nanotube solar cells, efforts have been directed toward the optimization of TiO2 photoanodes, dyes, electrolytes, and counter electrodes. Herein, we highlight recent progress in rational structural and surface engineering on anodic TiO2 nanotube arrays and their effects on improving the power conversion efficiency of dye‐sensitized TiO2 nanotube solar cells.  相似文献

A unique one‐dimensional (1D) sandwich single‐walled TiO2 nanotube (STNT) is proposed as a photoanode nanomaterial with perfect morphology and large specific surface area. We have thoroughly examined the elementary photoelectronic processes occurring at the porphyrin dye/STNT hetero‐interface in dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) by theoretical simulation. It is desirable to investigate the interfacial photoelectronic processes to elucidate the electron transfer and transport mechanism in 1D STNT‐based DSSCs. We have found that the photoexcitation and interfacial charge separation mechanism can be described as follows. A ground‐state electron of the dye molecule (localized around the electron donor) is first promoted to the excited state (distributed electron donor), and then undergoes ultrafast injection into the conduction band of the STNT, leaving a hole around the oxidized dye. Significantly, the injected electron in the conduction band is transported along the STNT by means of Ti 3d orbitals, offering a unidirectional electron pathway toward the electrode for massive collection without the observation of trap states. Our study not only provides theoretical guidelines for the modification of TiO2 nanotubes as a photoanode material, but also opens a new perspective for the development of a novel class of TiO2 nanotubes with high power‐generation efficiency.  相似文献

To improve the electron collection, electron lifetime, and light‐harvesting efficiency of dye‐sensitized solar cells simultaneously, Au nanoflowers were prepared and used to cover the entire TiO2 film. Deposition of Au nanoflowers around the TiO2 film formed a light‐scattering “box” that covered the entire TiO2 film. Compared with a light‐scattering layer that only covers the top surface of TiO2, the Au‐nanoflowers box exhibited better light‐harvesting efficiency due to omnidirectional light scattering, faster electron transport (attributed to the formation of electron channels between the metallic Au nanoflowers and the electron‐collection electrode), and slower charge recombination. As a consequence, the short‐circuit photocurrent and open‐circuit photovoltage were both enhanced significantly, which improved the power conversion efficiency from 8.12 to 10.91 % (34 %) when an Au‐nanoflowers box was wrapped around the photoanode.  相似文献

Dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSCs) with nanotubular TiO2 electrodes of varying thicknesses are compared to DSCs based on conventional nanoparticulate electrodes. Despite the higher degree of order in one‐dimensional nanotubular electrodes, electron transport times and diffusion coefficients, determined under short‐circuit conditions, are comparable to those of nanoparticulate electrodes. The quasi‐Fermi level, however, is much lower in the nanotubes, suggesting a lower concentration of conduction band electrons. This provides evidence for a much higher diffusion coefficient for conduction band electrons in nanotubes than in nanoparticulate films. The electron lifetime and the diffusion length are significantly longer in nanotubular TiO2 electrodes than in nanoparticulate films. Nanotubular electrodes have a trap distribution that differs significantly from nanoparticulate electrodes; they possess relatively deeper traps and have a characteristic energy of the exponential distribution that is more than two times that of nanoparticulate electrodes.  相似文献

Titanium dioxide (TiO2) is the most popular material for applications in solar‐energy conversion and photocatalysis, both of which rely on the creation, transport, and trapping of charges (holes and electrons). The nature and lifetime of electron traps at room temperature have so far not been elucidated. Herein, we use picosecond X‐ray absorption spectroscopy at the Ti K‐edge and the Ru L3‐edge to address this issue for photoexcited bare and N719‐dye‐sensitized anatase and amorphous TiO2 nanoparticles. Our results show that 100 ps after photoexcitation, the electrons are trapped deep in the defect‐rich surface shell in the case of anatase TiO2, whereas they are inside the bulk in the case of amorphous TiO2. In the case of dye‐sensitized anatase or amorphous TiO2, the electrons are trapped at the outer surface. Only two traps were identified in all cases, with lifetimes in the range of nanoseconds to tens of nanoseconds.  相似文献

In this paper, band‐structure matching strategy of a TiO2‐based heterojunction within which electrons can be collected from TiO2 nanoparticles and transported rapidly in the bulk structure is reported. On the basis of the band‐structure analysis of different TiO2‐based heterostructures, focus was directed to the SnO2 nanosheet because of its appropriate band position and high electrical conductivity. Through a systematic investigation of the incorporation of ultrathin SnO2 nanosheet scaffolds for TiO2‐based photoanodes in dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSCs), we propose an anisotropy “constrained random walk” model to describe the controlled electron transit process. In this system, electrons are transferred orientedly overall, as well as randomly locally, leading to a significant reduction in the charge diffusion route compared to the conventional isotropic “random walk” model. In brief, the 2D ultrathin nanosheets provide rapid transit pathways and improved light‐scattering centers, which can ensure a sufficient amount of dye loading and slow recombination. An overall light‐to‐electricity conversion efficiency as high as 8.25 % is achieved by embedding the appropriate amount of SnO2 scaffold in a TiO2‐based photoanode.  相似文献

Two D ‐π‐A conjugated molecules, BzTCA and BzTMCA , were developed through facile synthetic approaches for dye‐sensitized solar cells. The investigation of the photophysical properties of BzTCA and BzTMCA both in dilute solutions and in thin films indicates that their absorption exhibits a wide coverage of the solar spectrum. The absorption features for BzTCA and BzTMCA commence at about 710 nm in solution, and at about 800 nm in the solid state. The absorption maxima (λmax) for both BzTCA and BzTMCA on TiO2 film are almost the same as those in dilute solution. Their HOMOs and LUMOs were found to partly overlap at the center of these dyes, which guarantees appreciable interactions between the donors and acceptors. The investigation of the performance of dye‐sensitized solar cells fabricated from BzTCA and BzTMCA indicated that the power‐conversion efficiencies are 6.04 % and 4.68 %, respectively, which could be comparable with the normal sensitizer N3. BzTMCA showed lower incident photon‐to‐electron conversion efficiency (IPCE) and Jsc values relative to BzTCA , which is probably because of the weaker driving force of dye regeneration and electron injection process of BzTMCA . The IPCE responsive area reached nearly 800 nm, which provides great potential for further improvement of the photocurrent density and power‐conversion efficiency. Our investigations demonstrate that both dyes BzTCA and BzTMCA could be promising candidates for dye‐sensitized solar cells.  相似文献

We synthesized a novel low‐band‐gap, conjugated polymer, poly[4,7‐bis(3′,3′‐diheptyl‐3,4‐propylenedioxythienyl)‐2,1,3‐benzothiadiazole] [poly(heptyl4‐PTBT)], consisting of alternating electron‐rich, diheptyl‐substituted propylene dioxythiophene and electron‐deficient 2,1,3‐benzothiadiazole units, and its photovoltaic properties were investigated. A thin film of poly(heptyl4‐PTBT) exhibited an optical band gap of 1.55 eV. A bulk‐heterojunction solar cell with indium tin oxide/poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene)/poly(heptyl4‐PTBT): methanofullerene [6,6]‐phenyl‐C61‐butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM) (1:4)/LiF/Al was fabricated with poly(heptyl4‐PTBT) as an electron donor and PCBM as an electron acceptor and showed an open‐circuit voltage, short‐circuit current density, and power conversion efficiency of 0.37 V, 3.15 mA/cm2, and 0.35% under air mass 1.5 (AM1.5G) illumination (100 mW/cm2), respectively. A solid‐state, dye‐sensitized solar cell with a SnO2:F/TiO2/N3 dye/poly(heptyl4‐PTBT)/Pt device was fabricated with poly(heptyl4‐PTBT) as a hole‐transport material. This device exhibited a high power conversion efficiency of 3.1%, which is the highest power conversion efficiency value with hole‐transport materials in dye‐sensitized solar cells to date. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A facile way of controlling the structure of TiO2 by changing the amount of water to improve the efficiency of dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) is reported. Hierarchically ordered TiO2 films with high porosity and good interconnectivity are synthesized in a well‐defined morphological confinement arising from a one‐step self‐assembly of preformed TiO2 (pre‐TiO2) nanocrystals and a graft copolymer, namely poly(vinyl chloride)‐g‐poly(oxyethylene methacrylate). The polymer–solvent interactions in solution, which are tuned by the amount of water, are shown to be a decisive factor in determining TiO2 morphology and device performance. Systematic control of wall and pore size is achieved and enables the bifunctionality of excellent light scattering properties and easy electron transport through the film. These properties are characterized by reflectance spectroscopy, incident photon‐to‐electron conversion efficiency, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy analyses. The TiO2 photoanode that is prepared with a higher water ratio, [pre‐TiO2]:[H2O]=1:0.3, shows a larger surface area, greater light scattering, and better electron transport, which result in a high efficiency (7.7 %) DSSC with a solid polymerized ionic liquid. This efficiency is much greater than that of commercially available TiO2 paste (4.0 %).  相似文献

Anatase TiO2 nanorods with large specific surface areas and high crystallinity have been synthesized by surfactant‐free hydrothermal treatment of water‐soluble peroxotitanium acid (PTA). X‐ray diffraction and TEM analysis showed that all TiO2 nanorods derived from PTA in different hydrothermal processes were in the anatase phase, and high aspect ratio TiO2 nanorods with chain‐shaped structures were formed at 150 °C for 24 h by oriented growth. The nanorods were fabricated as photoanodes for high‐efficiency dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). DSSCs fabricated from the chain‐shaped TiO2 nanorods gave a highest short‐circuit current density of 14.8 mA cm?2 and a maximum energy conversion efficiency of 7.28 %, as a result of the presence of far fewer surface defects and grain boundaries than are present in commercial P25 TiO2 nanoparticles. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy also confirmed that DSSCs based on the TiO2 nanorods have enhanced electron transport properties and a long electron lifetime.  相似文献

The effects of the dye‐adsorption solvent on the performances of the dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) based on black dye have been investigated. The highest conversion efficiency (10.6 %) was obtained in the cases for which 1‐PrOH and the mixed solvent of EtOH and tBuOH (3:1 v/v) were employed as dye‐adsorption solvents. The optimized value for the dielectric constant of the dye‐adsorption solvent was found to be around 20. The DSSCs that used MeOH as a dye‐adsorption solvent showed inferior solar‐cell performance relative to the DSSCs that used EtOH, 1‐PrOH, 2‐PrOH, and 1‐BuOH. Photo‐ and electrochemical measurements of black dye both in solution and adsorbed onto the TiO2 surface revealed that black dye aggregates at the TiO2 surface during the adsorption process in the case for MeOH. Both the shorter electron lifetime in the TiO2 photoelectrode and the greater resistance in the TiO2–dye–elecrolyte interface, attributed to the dye aggregation at the TiO2 surface, cause the decrease in the solar‐cell performance of the DSSC that used MeOH as a dye adsorption solvent.  相似文献

Brookite TiO2 nanoparticles have been synthesized at low temperature by a soft solution growth method and have been used as building blocks to prepare pure brookite nanoparticle porous films. The film brookite structure was confirmed by XRD and Raman spectroscopy. By spectrophotometry, it was shown that the films had a direct band gap of 3.4 eV. After sensitization by the N719 dye, efficient cells have been produced. A best overall conversion efficiency of 5.97 %, without a scattering layer, was found for the larger TiO2 starting nanoparticles. The cell open‐circuit voltage was improved compared with that of anatase cells and a lower electron diffusion coefficient was found in the photoanodes made of smaller brookite particles. Lanthanum‐doped brookite nanoparticle films were also studied. They showed a marked decreased in the amount of dye loading, and hence, the solar cells had a reduced current density that was not compensated for by the increased open‐circuit voltage of the cells.  相似文献

Zn‐doped anatase TiO2 nanoparticles are synthesized by a one‐step hydrothermal method. Detailed electrochemical measurements are undertaken to investigate the origin of the effect of Zn doping on the performance of dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). It is found that incorporation of Zn2+ into an anatase lattice elevates the edge of the conduction band (CB) of the photoanodes and the Fermi level is shifted toward the CB edge, which contributes to the improvement in open‐circuit voltage (VOC). Charge‐density plots across the cell voltage further confirm the increase in the CB edge in DSSCs directly. Photocurrent and transient photovoltage measurements are employed to study transport and recombination dynamics. The electron recombination is accelerated at higher voltages close to the CB edge, thus leading to a negative effect on the VOC.  相似文献
