Solvent-induced self-organization approach was developed, for the first time, to produce polyurethane microporous templates and higher ordered morphologies such as micro or nanometer-sized polymeric hexagons and spheres. A novel melt transurethane methodology was designed and developed for synthesizing new class of cycloaliphatic polyurethanes under nonisocyanate and solvent-free conditions. In this new process, a diurethane monomer was polycondensed with equimolar amounts of diol in presence of Ti(OBu)4 as catalyst with the removal of low boiling alcohol from the equilibrium. The hydrogen bonding of the polyurethanes are very unique to their chemical structure and they undergo selective phase-separation process in solution to produce hexagonally packed microporous templates. The increase of water content in the polymer solution enhances the phase-separation process and the micro pores coalesce to isolate the encapsulated polymer matrix into polymeric hexagons or densely packed solid spheres. The concentration-dependent solution FTIR and 1H NMR of the polyurethanes revealed that the polymers possessing higher H-bonding association constants (K) have greater tendency to undergo solvent-induced self-organization phenomena. The mechanism of solvent-evaporation process indicated that only microporous polyurethanes have tendency to form higher ordered hexagons and spheres whereas others failed to show any new morphology. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The reactions of polylactic acid (PLA) oligomers and isocyanates (4,4′‐diphenylmethane diisocyanate and toluene diisocyanate) are reported. The effects of the reaction conditions, that is, the reaction time, reaction temperature, molar ratios, isocyanates, and catalyst, on the number‐average molecular weight (Mn ) are demonstrated. The optimum reaction conditions are determined by the synthesis of relatively high Mn PLA‐based linear polyurethanes. The structure of the polymer samples was investigated with dynamic light scattering, 1H NMR, IR, and matrix‐assisted laser‐desorption ionization time‐of‐flight mass spectroscopy (MALDI‐TOF MS). © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Pulsed laser polymerization (PLP) experiments were performed on the bulk polymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) at ?34 °C. The aim of this study was to investigate the polymer end groups formed during the photoinitiation process of MMA monomer using 2,2‐dimethoxy‐2‐phenylacetophenone (DMPA) and benzoin as initiators via matrix‐assisted laser desorption/ionization time‐of‐flight (MALDI‐TOF) mass spectrometry. Analysis of the MALDI‐TOF spectra indicated that the two radical fragments generated upon pulsed laser irradiation show markedly different reactivity toward MMA: whereas the benzoyl fragment—common to both DMPA and benzoin—clearly participates in the initiation process, the acetal and benzyl alcohol fragments cannot be identified as end groups in the polymer. The complexity of the MALDI‐TOF spectrum strongly increased with increasing laser intensity, this effect being more pronounced in the case of benzoin. This indicates that a cleaner initiation process is at work when DMPA is used as the photoinitiator. In addition, the MALDI‐TOF spectra were analyzed to extract the propagation‐rate coefficient, kp, of MMA at ?34 °C. The obtained value of kp = 43.8 L mol?1 s?1 agrees well with corresponding numbers obtained via size exclusion chromatography (kp = 40.5 L mol?1 s?1). © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Novel fully renewable AA‐BB type nonisocyanate polyurethanes (NIPUs) were synthesized using the transurethanization approach. Dicarbamate monomers were prepared by the reaction of a diamine with an excess of dimethylcarbonate (DMC), in presence of 1,5,7‐triazabicyclo[4.4.0]dec‐5‐ene (TBD) as catalyst. Then, the dicarbamate was reacted with a diol to afford the polymer, in presence of TBD or K2CO3 as catalyst. Several renewable diamines and diols were tested. The two steps were conducted under neat conditions. The obtained materials exhibited Tg values varying from ?38 to 42 ° C, Tm values varying from 42 to 204 °C , and thermal stabilities above 200 ° C. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. 4μ‐A2B2 star‐shaped copolymers contained polystyrene (PS), poly(isoprene) (PI), poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) or poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL) arms were synthesized by a combination of Glaser coupling with living anionic polymerization (LAP) and ring‐opening polymerization (ROP). Firstly, the functionalized PS or PI with an alkyne group and a protected hydroxyl group at the same end were synthesized by LAP and then modified by propargyl bromide. Subsequently, the macro‐initiator PS or PI with two active hydroxyl groups at the junction point were synthesized by Glaser coupling in the presence of pyridine/CuBr/N,N,N ′,N ″,N ″‐penta‐methyl diethylenetri‐amine (PMDETA) system and followed by hydrolysis of protected hydroxyl groups. Finally, the ROP of EO and ε‐CL monomers was carried out using diphenylmethyl potassium (DPMK) and tin(II)‐bis(2‐ethylhexanoate) (Sn(Oct)2) as catalyst for target star‐shaped copolymers, respectively. These copolymers and their intermediates were well characterized by SEC, 1H NMR, MALDI‐TOF mass spectra and FT‐IR in details. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This article reports our discovery that poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) can quantitatively be functionalized by transesterification using Candida antarctica lipase B (Novozyme 435) as the catalyst. α‐ω telechelic PEG‐methacrylates and PEG‐acetates were successfully prepared using commercially available PEGs with both narrow and broad molecular weight distribution. 1H and 13C NMR together with MALDI‐TOF mass spectroscopy verified the expected structures. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This article deals with the preparation of novel co‐oligoethers constituted with 1,3‐propanediol (PDO) and isosorbide units and, prepared according to two different melt processes, without any solvent in the presence of acid catalyst: co‐etherification of PDO and isosorbide (process A) and, trans‐etherification between polytrimethylene ether glycol (PTEG) and isosorbide (process B). Complementary analytical methods: D and 2D 1H NMR and gas chromatography analysis, coupled with FID and MS‐MALDI‐TOF mass spectrometry, were performed to precisely define the microstructure of the final products. In particular, one can observe that two mechanisms involve during the reaction: etherification and trans‐etherification where isosorbide reacts decreasing the molar mass of polymers chains. This led to oligomers having isosorbide units at each extremity and little inner isosorbide units. Computational calculations have been performed in parallel, and the data well duplicate the experimental results. Finally, it was shown that these new telechelic oligoethers have higher compatibility to water and higher Tg level and thermal stability than PTEG homopolymer. Therefore, such oligomers can be considered as new intermediates for designing new surfactants and/or new copolymers. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. Acidic bismuth salts, such as BiCl3, BiBr3, BiJ3, and Bi‐triflate catalyzed the ring‐opening polymerization of 2‐methoxazoline (MOZ) in bulk at 100 °C, whereas less acidic salts such as Bi2O3 or Bi(III)acetate did not. Bi‐triflate‐catalyzed polymerizations of 2‐ethyloxazoline (EtOZ) were performed with variation of the monomer–catalyst ratio (M/C). It was found that the molecular weights were independent of the M/C ratio. The formation of cationic chain ends and the absence of cycles was proven by reactions of virgin polymerization products with N,N‐dimethyl‐4‐aminopyridine or triphenylphosphine. The resulting polymers having modified cationic chain ends were characterized by 1H NMR spectroscopy and MALDI‐TOF mass spectrometry. The polymerization mechanism including chain‐transfer reactions is discussed. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 46: 4777–4784, 2008  相似文献

Poly(ethylene‐bε‐caprolactone) (PE‐b‐PCL) diblock copolymers were synthesized by ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of ε‐caprolactone (CL) with α‐hydroxyl‐ω‐methyl polyethylene (PE‐OH) as a macroinitiator and ammonium decamolybdate (NH4)8[Mo10O34] as a catalyst. Polymerization was conducted in bulk (130–150°C) with high yield (87–97%). Block copolymers with different compositions were obtained and characterized by 1H and 13C NMR, MALDI‐TOF, SAXS, and DSC. End‐group analysis by NMR and MALDI‐TOF indicates the formation of α‐hydroxyl‐ω‐methyl PE‐b‐PCL. The PE‐b‐PCL degradation was studied using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and alkaline hydrolysis. The PCL block was hydrolyzed by NaOH (4M), without any effect on the PE segment. Copyright © 2009 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

A novel and efficient strategy for the synthesis of nonisocyanate polyurethanes has been developed via thiol–ene self‐photopolymerization. An aliphatic thiol–ene carbamate monomer (allyl(2‐mercaptoethyl)carbamate, AMC) was synthesized by a one‐step synthesis procedure, from cysteamine and allyl chloroformate. The urethane group was therefore incorporated directly into the monomer precursor, avoiding the problems associated to toxic isocyanates. AMC was successfully stabilized with the radical inhibitor pyrogallol (1% wt). In addition, the use of phenyl phosphonic acid as coadditive allowed its stabilization for lower concentrations of pyrogallol (0.1% wt). AMC was directly transformed into thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) through thiol–ene photopolymerization by UV‐irradiation at 365 nm. The obtained TPU presented semi‐crystalline nature and very high thermal stability (T5% ~325 °C). It was found that high concentrations of pyrogallol decreased the reaction rate and final conversion of photopolymerization. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. The titanium complexes with one ( 1a , 1b , 1c ) and two ( 2a , 2b ) dialkanolamine ligands were used as initiators in the ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of ε‐caprolactone. Titanocanes 1a and 1b initiated living ROP of ε‐caprolactone affording polymers whose number‐average molecular weights (Mn) increased in direct proportion to monomer conversion (Mn ≤ 30,000 g mol?1) in agreement with calculated values, and were inversely proportional to initiator concentration, while the molecular weight distribution stayed narrow throughout the polymerization (Mw/Mn ≤ 1.2 up to 80% monomer conversion). 1H‐NMR and MALDI‐TOF‐MS studies of the obtained poly(ε‐caprolactone)s revealed the presence of an isopropoxy group originated from the initiator at the polymer termini, indicating that the polymerization takes place exclusively at the Ti–OiPr bond of the catalyst. The higher molecular weight polymers (Mn ≤ 70,000 g mol?1) with reasonable MWD (Mw/Mn ≤ 1.6) were synthesized by living ROP of ε‐caprolactone using spirobititanocanes ( 2a , 2b ) and titanocane 1c as initiators. The latter catalysts, according MALDI‐TOF‐MS data, afford poly(ε‐caprolactone)s with almost equal content of α,ω‐dihydroxyl‐ and α‐hydroxyl‐ω(carboxylic acid)‐terminated chains arising due to monomer insertion into “Ti–O” bond of dialkanolamine ligand and from initiation via traces of water, respectively. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new s‐triazine ring containing aromatic diisocyanate bearing a pendent alkyne group, namely, 2,4‐bis(4‐isocyanatophenoxy)?6‐(prop‐2‐yn‐1‐yloxy)?1,3,5‐triazine was synthesized and reacted with various diols viz., 1,10‐decanediol, tetraethylene glycol and polyethylene glycols in the presence of dibutyltin dilaurate as the catalyst to obtain a series of linear polyurethanes. The selected polyurethanes possessing pendent alkyne groups were postmodified with chemically diverse azides viz., 1‐(azidomethyl)benzene, 1‐(azidomethyl)pyrene, and methoxy end‐caped poly(ethylene glycol) azide via copper‐catalysed azide‐alkyne Huisgen 1,3‐dipolar cycloaddition. FTIR and 1H NMR spectra indicated quantitative click reaction. UV–vis and fluorescence spectroscopic analysis confirmed complete incorporation of pyrenyl groups indicating the formation of fluorescence active polyurethane by postmodification with 1‐(azidomethyl)pyrene. TG analysis of polyurethanes indicated two stage weight loss and their thermal stability, as judged by T 10 values, was governed by weight percent of urethane linkages. The water contact angle measurements revealed improved wettability with increased content of PEG either in the backbone of polyurethanes or as grafted chains. DLS and TEM studies confirmed that certain polyurethanes possessing PEG segments displayed self‐assembly in aqueous solution, which was further supported by pyrene encapsulation studies using UV–vis spectroscopy. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The synthesis of 3‐allyloxymethyl‐3‐ethyloxetane (AllylEHO) and its polymerization with BF3 × Et2O is described in this study. Size exclusion chromatography (SEC) and membrane osmometry are used for the determination of molecular weights of the obtained products, ranging from Mn,SEC = 41,500‐131,500 g/mol. 1H NMR spectroscopy, SEC, as well as MALDI‐TOF MS reveal the formation of cyclic tetramer beside low, but detectable concentrations of larger cyclic oligomers as by‐products during the polymerization process. These results help to understand mechanistically why attempts for a controlled homopolymerization of AllylEHO fail and why a controlled homopolymerization of oxetanes has not been described so far in the literature. Additionally, the high versatility of allyl‐functional polyoxetane for postpolymerization modification is proven by thiol–ene reactions with 3‐mercaptopropionic acid and N‐acetyl‐L ‐cysteine methyl ester. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Starting from 3,5‐diamino benzoic acid, 2‐hydroxy propyl[3,5‐bis{(benzoxycarbonyl)imino}]benzyl ether, an AB2‐type blocked isocyanate monomer with flexible ether group, and 2‐hydroxy propyl[3,5‐bis{(benzoxycarbonyl)imino}]benzoate, an AB2‐type blocked isocyanate monomer with ester group, were synthesized for the first time. Using the same starting compound, 3,5‐bis{(benzoxycarbonyl)imino}benzylalcohol, an AB2‐type blocked isocyanate monomer, was synthesized through a highly efficient short‐cut route. Step‐growth polymerization of these monomers at individually optimized experimental conditions results in the formation of hyperbranched polyurethanes with and without ether and ester groups. Copolymerizations of these monomers with functionally similar AB monomers were also carried out. The molecular weights of the polymers were determined using GPC and the values (Mw) were found to vary from 1.5 × 104 to 1.2 × 106. While hyperbranched polyurethanes having no ether or ester group were found to be thermally stable up to 217 °C, hyperbranched poly(ether–urethane)s and poly(ester–urethane)s were found to be thermally stable up to 245 and 300 °C, respectively. Glass transition temperature (Tg) of polyurethane was reduced significantly when introducing ether groups into the polymer chain, whereas Tg was not observed even up to 250 °C in the case of poly(ester–urethane). Hyperbranched polyurethanes derived from all the three different AB2 monomers were soluble in highly polar solvents and the copolymers showed improved solubility. Polyethylene glycol monomethyl ether of molecular weight 550 and decanol were used as end‐capping groups, which were seen to affect the thermal, solution, and solubility properties of polymers. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. High molecular weight poly(L ‐lactide)s (PLLAs) and poly(D ‐lactide)s (PDLAs) were synthesized in toluene at 70 °C by ring‐opening polymerization of optically pure L ‐lactide and D ‐lactide, using tin(II) 2‐ethylhexanoate (SnOct2) and 2‐(2‐methoxyethoxy)ethanol as initiator and coinitiator, respectively. Under these conditions, polarimetry as well as 13C NMR spectroscopy indicated that the synthesized poly(lactide)s (PLAs) are more than 99% isotactic. The molecular weight was successfully controlled by adjusting the monomer‐to‐initiator molar ratio. Gel permeation chromatography and MALDI‐TOF mass spectrometry analyses showed that the polydispersity index of the PLAs is below 1.1. Moreover, MALDI‐TOF spectra showed two different chain distributions, one characterized by an even number of lactic acid repeat units and the other by an odd number of lactic acid repeat units. The second distribution, indicative of the presence of intermolecular transesterification reactions, appears at the very beginning of the polymerization and its intensity increases with the polymerization time. Finally, a reversible reaction kinetic model was used to determine the monomer equilibrium concentration ([M]eq = 1.4 ± 0.5%) and the propagation rate constant (kp = 14.4 ± 0.5 L mol?1 h?1) of the polymerization. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of telechelic oligo[(R,S)‐3‐hydroxybutyrate]‐diols (PHB‐diols) was synthesized from ethyl (R,S)‐3‐hydroxybutyrate (ethyl (HB)) and four different aliphatic diols, namely, 1,4‐butanediol, 1,6‐hexanediol, 1,8‐octanediol and 1,10‐decanediol by transesterification and condensation in bulk. The structures of the synthesized oligomers were confirmed by 1H NMR spectroscopy and MALDI‐TOF mass spectroscopy. The use of 1,4‐butanediol results in an oligoester with hydroxyl functionality of approximately 2. In the case of the higher aliphatic diols, the number average functionalities were found to be lower than 2. These differences were ascribed to side reactions which occur during polymerization, yielding unreactive end groups. Other novel families of biodegradable poly(ester‐urethane)s were synthesized either from PHB‐diol alone, or PHB‐diol mixed with poly(ε‐caprolactone)‐diol (PCL‐diol), poly(butylene adipate)‐diol (PBA‐diol) or poly(diethylene glycol adipate)‐diol (PDEGA‐diol). In each case, 1,6‐hexamethylene diisocyanate was used as a nontoxic connecting agent. The homopolymers prepared from PCL‐diol, PBA‐diol and PDEGA‐diol were also synthesized for the sake of comparison. All the prepared copolymers possess high molecular weight with glass transition temperature (Tg) values varying from –54 to –23°C. Some of the prepared copoly(ester‐urethane)s are partially crystalline with melting temperatures (Tm's) varying from 37 to 56°C.  相似文献

Catalyst and temperature driven melt polycondensation reaction was developed for natural L‐amino acid monomers to produce new classes of poly(ester‐urethane)s. Wide ranges of catalysts from alkali, alkali earth metal, transition metal and lanthanides were developed for the condensation of amino acid monomers with diols to yield poly(ester‐urethane)s. A‐B Diblock and A‐B‐A triblock species were obtained by carefully choosing mono‐ or diols in model reactions. More than two dozens of transition metal and lanthanide catalysts were identified for the polycondensation to yield high molecular weight poly(ester‐urethane)s. Theoretical studies revealed that the carbonyl carbon in ester possessed low electron density compared to the carbonyl carbon in urethane which driven the thermo‐selective polymerization process. Optical purity of the L‐amino acid residues in the melt polycondensation process was investigated using D‐ and L‐isomers and the resultant products were analyzed by chiral‐HPLC and CD spectroscopy. CD analysis revealed that the amino acid based polymers were self‐assembled as β‐sheet and polyproline type II secondary structures. Electron and atomic force microscopic analysis confirmed the formation of helical nano‐fibrous morphology in poly(ester‐urethane)s. The newly developed melt polycondensation process is very efficient and optimized for wide range of catalysts to produce diverse polymer structures from natural L‐amino acids. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Living cationic polymerization of a vinyl ether with a naphthyl group [2‐(2‐naphthoxy)ethyl vinyl ether, βNpOVE] was achieved using base‐assisting initiating systems with a Lewis acid. The Et1.5AlCl1.5/1,4‐dioxane or ethyl acetate system induced the living cationic polymerization of βNpOVE in toluene at 0 °C. The living nature of this reaction was confirmed by a monomer addition experiment, followed by 1H NMR and matrix‐assisted laser desorption ionization time‐of‐flight mass spectrometry (MALDI‐TOF‐MS) analyses. In contrast, the polymerization of αNpOVE was not fully controlled; under similar conditions, it produced polymers with broad molecular weight distributions. The 1H NMR and MALDI‐TOF‐MS spectra of the resultant poly(αNpOVE) revealed that the products had undesirable structures derived from Friedel–Crafts alkylation. The higher reactivity of αNpOVE in electrophilic substitution reactions, such as the Friedel–Crafts reaction, was attributable to the greater electron density of the naphthyl ring, which was calculated based on frontier orbital theory. The naphthyl groups significantly affected the properties of the resultant polymer. For example, the glass transition temperatures (Tg) of poly(NpOVE)s are higher by approximately 40 °C than that of poly(2‐phenoxyethyl vinyl ether). © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Functionalization of polyols with aromatic amines offers a potential route to modify properties of polyurethanes, polyamides, and epoxies. Additionally, aniline termination of polyether backbones provides the opportunity to speed up reactions with isocyanates relative to hydroxyl functionalization and slow down epoxy reactions compared to reactions with primary and secondary amines. In this article, the synthesis, characterization, and physical properties of aniline‐terminated polyols with varying molecular weight, monomer type, and functionality is described. Numerous analytical techniques are employed to track the chemical modification kinetics and the resulting aniline functionalized polyol properties. In addition, synthesis and properties of poly(urethane‐urea) elastomers from several of the modified polyols are presented. The effect of hard segment composition and process temperature on tensile properties, dynamic mechanical properties, phase morphology, and chemical resistance is explored. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Despite the industrial significance of poly(bisphenol A carbonate), there is a scarcity of open literature on the equilibrium of the melt‐phase process. In fact, the equilibrium constant (Keq) for this reaction has never been measured directly. This article describes a process on the basis of NMR for the measurement of Keq for the reaction between bisphenol A and diphenyl carbonate in the presence and absence of a catalyst. The apparent enthalpy and entropy were calculated using a van't Hoff plot. Decomposition of bisphenol A is a common side reaction in the melt‐phase reaction performed at high temperatures in the presence of catalyst. The effect of these side reactions on the Keq in the presence of catalyst is determined. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 40: 171–178, 2002  相似文献
