To realize the high‐valued application of waste tire rubber (WTR), hyperbranched poly(amidoamine) (PAMAM) were synthesized from the surface of WTR powders to endow its chemical reactivity. The hyperbranched PAMAM‐grafted WTR powders containing a large amount of amine groups on their surface were obtained through “divergent procedure.” First, methyl methacrylate‐grafted WTR powders (MMA‐g‐WTR) were prepared by ozone‐induced grafting polymerization. Afterwards, Michael reaction and subsequent amidation reactions were carried out repetitively to obtain hyperbranched PAMAM chains grafted from the surface of the MMA‐g‐WTR powders. The resulting hyperbranched PAMAM‐grafted WTR powders exhibit good dispersibility in water. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis demonstrate the successful grafting of hyperbranched PAMAM on WTR surface. The hyperbranched PAMAM‐grafted WTR powder could be utilize as curing agent and potential toughener for epoxy resin due to abundant amine groups and elastomeric feature of WTR. Differential scanning calorimetry shows that the hyperbranched PAMAM‐grafted WTR powders can be used as effective curing agent for epoxy resin. Copyright © 2011 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Iron oxide@Poly(Glycidylmethacrylate‐methyl methacrylate‐divinyl benzene) magnetic composite core shell microspheres Fe3O4@P(GMA‐MMA‐DVB) with epoxy group on the surface was designed and synthesized by solvothermal process followed by distillation polymerization. The surface epoxy group was modified with amino group of ethylene diamine (EDA) to prepare Fe3O4@P(GMA‐MMA‐DVB)/NH2 microspheres, and then effects of modification on the structure, interfacial behavior and hence demulsification of the amino modified epoxy coating were examined. The prepared magnetic microspheres were characterized using a laser particle size analyzer, transmission electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, vibrating sample magnetometry, and thermogravimetric analysis. Fourier transform infrared spectrometer analysis indicates the presence of epoxy group, amino group and Fe3O4 in the final Fe3O4@P(GMA‐MMA‐DVB) and Fe3O4@P(GMA‐MMA‐DVB)/NH2 magnetic core shell microspheres. Our experimental results show that Fe3O4@P(GMA‐MMA‐DVB)/NH2 magnetic core shell microspheres exhibit good interfacial and demulsification properties and able to remove emulsified water from stable emulsion. The resulting microspheres showed excellent magnetic properties and further these can be recycled and reused by magnetic separation.  相似文献

Particles of methyl methacrylate (MMA) and glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) copolymer having narrow size distributions were prepared by the method of dispersion polymerization. Results from the analysis of particle porosity and the correlation of specific surface area with the reciprocal of particle diameter suggest that the prepared particles were nonporous. The particle size was found to decrease from 4.2 to 2.1 μm with increasing the mass ratio of GMA/MMA from 0.1 to 0.75. Polymer particles having an average diameter falling in this range are suitable for being employed as the stationary phase in protein chromatography. The decrease in particle size when GMA was present could be due to the increase in adsorption rate of poly(vinyl pyrrolidone). The oligomer chains that were rich in GMA were more active for adsorbing and grafting PVP, compared with the moiety of MMA. An increase in the GMA/MMA ratio also leaded to a decrease in epoxy‐group density on the particle surface, since the reactivity of GMA was greater than that of MMA. Results of this work suggest that the influence of GMA/MMA mass ratio on the particle size and surface functionality of the nonporous particles was very significant. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Core(polyvinyl neodecanoate‐ethylene glycol dimethacrylate)‐shell(polyvinyl alcohol) (core (P(VND‐EGDMA))‐shell(PVA)) microspheres were developed by seeded polymerization with the use of conventional free radical and RAFT/MADIX mediated polymerization. Poly(vinyl pivalate) PVPi was grafted onto microspheres prepared via suspension polymerization of vinylneodecanoate and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate. The amount of grafted polymer was found to be independent from the technique used with conventional free radical polymerization and MADIX polymerization resulting into similar shell thicknesses. Both systems—grafting via free radical polymerization or the MADIX process—were found to follow slightly different kinetics. While the free radical polymerization resulted in a weight gain linear with the monomer consumption in solution the growth in the MADIX controlled system experienced a delay. The core‐shell microspheres were obtained by hydrolysis of the poly(vinyl pivalate) surface grafted brushes to form poly(vinyl alcohol). During hydrolysis the microspheres lost a significant amount of weight, consistent with the hydrolysis of 40–70% of all VPi units. Drug loading was found to be independent of the shell layer thickness, suggesting that the drug loading is governed by the amount of bulk material. The shell layer does not appear to represent an obstacle to the drug ingress. Cell testing using colorectal cancer cell lines HT 29 confirm the biocompatibility of the empty microspheres whereas the clofazimine loaded particles lead to 50% cell death, confirming the release of the drug. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. To improve the tribological performance of nano‐SiC particles filled epoxy composites, surface modification of the fillers is necessary. By means of soapless emulsion polymerization method, graft polymerization of glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) onto the surface of alkyl nano‐SiC was carried out, resulting in composite particles with SiC core and polymeric shell in which polyglycidyl methacrylate (PGMA) is chemically attached to the nanoparticles by the double bonds introduced during the pretreatment with a coupling agent. By analyzing the reaction mechanism, the emulsion polymerization loci were found to be situated at the SiC surface. Also, the factors affecting the grafting yielding of PGMA on the particles were investigated, including monomer concentration, initiator consumption, reaction temperature, reaction time, etc. Accordingly, an optimum grafting reaction condition was determined. It was shown that the grafted nanoparticles exhibit greatly improved dispersibility in good solvent for the grafting polymer. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A method of one‐stage soap‐free emulsion polymerization to synthesize narrowly dispersed core‐shell microspheres is proposed. Following this method, core‐shell microspheres of poly(styrene‐co‐4‐vinylpyridine), poly(styrene‐co‐methyl acrylic acid), and poly[styrene‐co‐2‐(acetoacetoxy)ethyl methacrylate‐co‐methyl acrylic acid] are synthesized by one‐stage soap‐free emulsion polymerization of a mixture of one or two hydrophobic monomers and a suitable hydrophilic monomer in water. The effect of the molar ratio of the hydrophobic monomer to the hydrophilic one on the size, the core thickness, and the shell thickness of the core‐shell microspheres is discussed. The molar ratio of the hydrophobic and hydrophilic monomers and the hydrophilicity of the resultant oligomers of the hydrophilic monomer are optimized to synthesize narrowly dispersed core‐shell microspheres. A possible mechanism of one‐stage soap‐free emulsion polymerization to synthesize core‐shell microspheres is suggested and coagglutination of the oligomers of the hydrophilic monomers on the hydrophobic core is considered to be the key to form core‐shell microspheres. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Epoxy‐functionalized polystyrene/silica core–shell composite nanoparticles were prepared by the postaddition of glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) via emulsion polymerization. The outermost shell of obtained multilayered core–shell particles was made up of poly(glycidyl methacrylate) (PGMA). A semicontinuous process involving the dropwise addition of GMA was used to avoid demulsification of the emulsion system. The amount of grafted PGMA was quantified by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and was altered in a wide range (1–50 wt % to styrene). The binding efficiency was usually high (ca. 90%), indicating strong adhesion between the silica core and the polymer shell. There were approximately four or five original silica beads, which formed a cluster, per composite of nanoparticles whose size was about 60–70 nm. Other main factors of polymerization conditions including the amounts of sodium dodecyl sulfonate and silica are also discussed. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The synthesis of functionalized magnetic polymer microspheres was described by a process involving (1) preparation of the monodisperse magnetic seeds according to a two-step procedure including the preparation of bilayer-oleic acid-coated Fe3O4 nanoparticles followed by soap-free emulsion polymerization with methyl methacrylate (MMA) and divinyl benzene (a cross-linking agent, DVB); (2) seeded emulsion polymerization proceeding under the continuous addition of glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) monomers in the presence of the magnetic PMMA seeds; and (3) chemical modification of the PGMA shells with ethylenediamine (EDA) to yield amino groups. As such, the magnetic poly(MMA-DVB-GMA) microspheres were prepared possessing monodispersity, uniform magnetic properties, and abundant surface amino groups. Then, the dendritic poly(amidoamine) (PAMAM) shells were coated on the magnetic particles on the basis of the Michael addition of methyl acrylate and the amidation of the resulting ester with a large excess of EDA, which could achieve generational growth under such uniform stepwise reactions. For improving the luminescence properties of the composite particles, fluorescein isothiocyanate, which is a popular organic dye, was reacted with the terminal -NH2 groups from the dendritic PAMAM shells, resulting in the formation of multifunctional microspheres with excellent photoluminescence, superparamagnetic, and pH-sensitive properties. In this case, it can be expected that an extension of the functionalization of these microspheres is to immobilize other target molecules onto the PAMAM shells to introduce other desired functions for potential chemical and biological applications.  相似文献

Blends of isotactic (natural) poly(3‐hydroxybutyrate) (PHB) and poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) are partially miscible, and PHB in excess of 20 wt % segregates as a partially crystalline pure phase. Copolymers containing atactic PHB chains grafted onto a PMMA backbone are used to compatibilize phase‐separated PHB/PMMA blends. Two poly(methyl methacrylate‐g‐hydroxybutyrate) [P(MMA‐g‐HB)] copolymers with different grafting densities and the same length of the grafted chain have been investigated. The copolymer with higher grafting density, containing 67 mol % hydroxybutyrate units, has a beneficial effect on the mechanical properties of PHB/PMMA blends with 30–50% PHB content, which show a remarkable increase in ductility. The main effect of copolymer addition is the inhibition of PHB crystallization. No compatibilizing effect on PHB/PMMA blends with PHB contents higher than 50% is observed with various amounts of P(MMA‐g‐HB) copolymer. In these blends, the graft copolymer is not able to prevent PHB crystallization, and the ternary PHB/PMMA/P(MMA‐g‐HB) blends remain crystalline and brittle.

The hairy poly(methacrylic acid‐co‐divinylbenzene)‐g‐poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (P(MAA‐co‐DVB)‐g‐PNIPAm) nanocapsules with pH‐responsive P(MAA‐co‐DVB) inner shell and temperature‐responsive PNIPAm brushes were prepared by combined distillation–precipitation copolymerization and surface thiol‐ene click grafting reaction using 3‐(trimethoxysilyl)propyl methacrylate‐modified silica (SiO2‐MPS) nanospheres as a sacrificial core material. The well‐defined PNIPAm was synthesized by a reversible addition fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization. The chain end was converted to a thiol by chemical reduction. The PNIPAm was integrated into the nanocapsules via thiol‐ene click reaction. The surface thiol‐ene click reaction conduced to tunable grafting density of PNIPAm brushes. The grafting densities decreased from 0.70 chains nm?2 to 0.15 chains nm?2 with increasing the molecular weight of grafted PNIPAm chains. Using water soluble doxorubicin hydrochloride (DOX·HCl) as a model molecular, the tunable shell permeability of the nanocapsule was investigated in detail. The permeability constant can be tuned by controlling the thickness of the P(MAA‐co‐DVB) inner shell, the grafting density of PNIPAm brushes, and the environmental pH and temperature. The tunable shell permeability of these nanocapsules results in the release of the loaded guest molecules with manipulable releasing kinetics. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Silica–polystyrene core‐shell particles were successfully prepared by surface‐mediated reversible addition fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization of styrene monomer from the surfaces of the silica‐supported RAFT agents. Initially, macro‐RAFT agents were synthesized by RAFT polymerization of γ‐methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane (MPS) in the presence of chain transfer agents (CTAs). Immobilization of CTAs onto the silica surfaces was then performed by reacting silica with macro‐RAFT agents via a silane coupling. Grafting of polymer onto silica forms core‐shell nanostructures and shows a sharp contrast between silica core and polymer shell in the phase composition. The thickness of grafted‐polymer shell and the diameter of core‐shell particles increase with the increasing ratio of monomer to silica. A control experiment was carried out by conventional free radical emulsion copolymerization of MPS‐grafted silica and styrene under comparable conditions. The resulting data provide further insight into the chemical composition of grafted‐polymers that are grown from the silica surface through RAFT process. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Hollow mesoporous silica nanoparticles (HMSNs) grafted with a photo‐responsive copolymer containing coumarin groups were successfully prepared. With uniform polystyrene nanoparticles and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide correspondingly as the template of core and channel, HMSNs were made from tetraethyloxysilane in alkalic condition. Epoxy groups were introduced onto the outer surface of HMSNs with γ‐(2,3‐epoxypropoxy)propyltrimethoxysilane and converted into azido groups with sodium azide, resulting in azido‐functionalized HMSNs (azido‐HMSNs). Meanwhile, single‐electron transfer‐living radical copolymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) and 7‐(2‐methacryloyloxy)‐4‐methylcoumarin (CMA) with propargyl 2‐bromoisobutyrate as the initiator produced alkynyl‐capped P(MMA‐co‐CMA) [alkynyl‐P(MMA‐co‐CMA)]. Finally, photo‐responsive HMSNs grafted with P(MMA‐co‐CMA) [HMSN‐g‐P(MMA‐co‐CMA)] was achieved through the click reaction between azido‐HMSNs and alkynyl‐P(MMA‐co‐CMA). Different techniques such as transmission electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and thermal gravimetric analysis confirmed the successful preparation of the resultant hybrid nanoparticles and their intermediates. Because of its hollow core, mesoporous shell channels and light responsiveness, the coumarin‐modified HMSNs would be an interesting nano‐vehicle for guest molecules. Thus, the loading and release of pyrene with HMSN‐g‐P(MMA‐co‐CMA) was studied. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. Chem. 2013 , 51, 3791–3799  相似文献

Amphiphilic block copolymers composed of a hydrophilic poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) block and a hydrophobic poly(glycidyl methacrylate) (PGMA) block were synthesized through cationic ring‐opening polymerization with PEG as the precursor. The model reactions indicated that the reactivity of the epoxy groups was higher than that of the double bonds in the bifunctional monomer glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) under the cationic polymerization conditions. Through the control of the reaction time in the synthesis of block copolymer PEG‐b‐PGMA, a linear GMA block was obtained through the ring‐opening polymerization of epoxy groups, whereas the double bond in GMA remained unreacted. The results showed that the molecular weight of the PEG precursor had little influence on the grafting of GMA, and the PGMA blocks almost kept the same length, despite the difference of the PEG blocks. In addition, the PGMA blocks only consisted of several GMA units. The obtained amphiphilic PEG‐b‐PGMA block copolymers could form polymeric core–shell micelles by direct molecular self‐assembly in water. The crosslinking of the PGMA core of the PEG‐b‐PGMA micelles, induced by ultraviolet radiation and heat instead of crosslinking agents, greatly increased the stability of the micelles. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. High loading of stable carbon black (CB) dispersion in organic solvent, PGMEA, was prepared by a ball‐milling process when using poly(styrene‐EHA‐HEMA)‐block‐poly(styrene‐EHA‐HEMA‐DMAEMA) (P(SEH)‐b‐P(SEHD)) as a dispersant. The P(SEH)‐b‐P(SEHD) containing P(SEH) as a steric chain and P(SEHD) as an anchoring chain was prepared by TEMPO‐mediated polymerization. The tertiary amine group of DMAEMA in P(SEHD) chain could be adsorbed onto CB by the interaction with the carboxylic acid group on surface of CB and the P(SEH) chain could provide sufficiently steric repulsion force to avoid the aggregation of CB. In addition, a photosensitive dispersant, P(SEH)‐b‐P(SEHD)C?C, containing the methacrylate double bond side group was also synthesized and was used to prepare stable CB dispersion in PGMEA. The effects of the molecular weight between steric and anchoring chains, the content of tertiary amine, and the amount of methacrylate double bond in the dispersant on the particle size of CB were investigated. Furthermore, the influences of various surface properties of CB, such as specific surface area, content of carboxylic acid group, and size of primary particle, on the particle size of CB in dispersion were also discussed. Finally, the photosensitivity of P(SEH)‐b‐P(SEHD)C?C/CB composite was monitored by a photodifferential scanning calorimeter. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The effects of methyl methacrylate (MMA) grafting and in situ formation of silica particles on the morphology and mechanical properties of natural rubber latex (NRL) were investigated. MMA grafting on NRL was carried out using cumyl hydroxy peroxide/tetraethylene pentamine (CHPO/TEPA) as a redox initiator couple. The grafting efficiency of the grafted NR was determined by solvent extractions and the grafted NRL was then mixed with tetraethoxysilane (TEOS), a precursor of silica, coated by adherence to a glass surface to form a film and cured at 80°C. The resultant products were characterized by FT‐IR and transmission electron microscopy. The influence of varying the MMA monomer weight ratio on the surface morphology of the composites was investigated by scanning electron and atomic force microscopy. The PMMA (poly MMA) grafted NRL particles were obtained as a core/shell structure from which the NR particles were the core seed and PMMA was a shell layer. The silane was converted into silica particles by a sol–gel process which was induced during film drying at 80°C. The silica particles were fairly evenly distributed in the ungrafted NR matrix but were agglomerated in the grafted NR matrix. The root‐mean‐square roughness increased with an increasing weight ratio of MMA in the rubber. The in situ silica particles in the grafted NR matrix slightly increased both the modulus and the tear strength of the composite film. Copyright © 2008 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In this work, the poly(methyl methacrylate‐co‐methacrylic acid)/poly(methacrylic acid‐co‐N‐isopropylacrylamide) thermosensitive composite semi‐hollow latex particles was synthesized by three processes. The first process was to synthesize the poly(methyl methacrylate‐co‐methacrylic acid) (poly (MMA‐MAA)) copolymer latex particles by the method of soapless emulsion polymerization. The second process was to polymerize methacrylic acid (MAA), N‐isopropylacrylamide (NIPAAm), and crosslinking agent, N,N′‐methylenebisacrylamide, in the presence of poly(MMA‐MAA) latex particles to form the linear poly(methyl methacrylate‐co‐methacrylic acid)/crosslinking poly(methacrylic acid‐co‐N‐isopropylacrylamide) (poly(MMA‐MAA)/poly(MAA‐NIPAAm)) core–shell latex particles with solid structure. In the third process, part of the linear poly(MMA‐MAA) core of core–shell latex particles was dissolved by ammonia to form the poly(MMA‐MAA)/poly(MAA‐NIPAAm) thermosensitive semi‐hollow latex particles. The morphologies of the semi‐hollow latex particles show that there is a hollow zone between the linear poly(MMA‐MAA) core and the crosslinked poly(MAA‐NIPAAm) shell. The crosslinking agent and shell composition significantly influenced the lower critical solution temperature of poly(MMA‐MAA)/poly(MAA‐NIPAAm) semi‐hollow latex particles. Besides, the poly(MMA‐MAA)/poly(MAA‐NIPAAm) thermosensitive semi‐hollow latex particles were used as carriers to load with the model drug, caffeine. The processes of caffeine loaded into the semi‐hollow latex particles appeared four situations, which was different from that of solid latex particles. In addition, the phenomenon of caffeine released from the semi‐hollow latex particles was obviously different from that of solid latex particles. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. A novel amphiphilic thermosensitive poly(ethylene glycol)45b‐poly(methyl methacrylate46co‐3‐(trimethoxysilyl)propyl methacrylate)2b‐poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide)429 (PEG45b‐P(MMA46co‐MPMA2)‐b‐PNIPAAm429) triblock copolymer was synthesized via consecutive atom transfer radical polymerization techniques. The thermoinduced association behavior of the resulting triblock copolymers in aqueous medium was further investigated in detail by 1H NMR, transmission electron microscopy, and dynamic light scattering. The results showed that at the temperature (25 °C) below the LCST, PEG45b‐P(MMA46co‐MPMA2)‐b‐PNIPAAm429 triblock copolymers self‐assembled into the core crosslinked micelles with the hydrophobic P(MMA‐co‐MPMA) block constructing a dense core, protected by the mixed soluble PEG and PNIPAAm chains acting as a hydrophilic shell simultaneously. With an increase in temperature, the resulting core‐shell micelles converted into a new type of micelles with the hydrophilic PEG chains stretching out from the hydrophobic core through the collapsed PNIPAAm shell. On the other hand, at the temperature (40 °C) above the LCST, such triblock copolymers formed the crosslinked vesicles with the hydrophobic PNIPAAm and P(MMA‐co‐MPMA) blocks constructing a membrane core and the soluble PEG chains building the hydrophilic lumen and the shell. On further decreasing the temperature, the resulting vesicles underwent transformation from the shrunken to the expanded status, leading to the formation of swollen vesicles with enlarged size. This study is believed to present the first formation of two types of hybrid crosslinked self‐assemblies by thermoinduced regulation. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
