KDP crystals were rapidly grown from solutions doped with different Nd3+ concentrations. During the growth process, “foggy” inclusions were selectively captured in the pyramidal sector of KDP crystal and hourglass shaped crystals were obtained. It is found that the nonuniform distribution of Nd3+ ions causes remarkable differences in optical quality between prismatic and pyramidal sectors. With increasing Nd3+ concentration, the optical quality is greatly decreased for pyramidal sectors, while the change is not so obvious for prismatic sectors. (© 2010 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KDP crystals were rapidly grown from solution doped with different Ba2+ concentrations. The effects of Ba2+ on the growth rate, morphology and quality of KDP crystals were discussed. Significant changes in shapes and volume of the grown crystals have been observed. During the growth process, defect region expands gradually with the increasing Ba2+ concentration. Samples were cut from different parts of the as‐grown crystals for investigating the optical quality, including transmission spectrum, scattering centers. Through comparison, it is found that the nonuniform distribution of Ba2+ ions causes remarkable difference in optical quality between prismatic and pyramidal sectors. Phosphite, which often exists in growth solutions obtained directly from commercial P2O5 , was found to have significant inhibiting effects on the growth of pyramidal face of KDP crystals. K(DxH1‐x)2PO4 (referred to as DKDP) crystals with different deuterium fraction x were grown and the optical performances were investigated. The absorption coefficients at 1.05 μm decreases monotonically with the increase of x. The transmission threshold shift from 1.65μm at x=0 to 2.10 μm at x=0.96. The high temperature phase transition temperature and latent heat were measured using the method of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Thermal conditioning experiments were carried out at 180°C and 140°C for KDP and DKDP, respectively. After conditioning, a different degree of improvement was observed in the optical homogeneity of the samples, while the laser damage threshold and light absorption coefficient showed no significant change.  相似文献

The homogeneity of deuterium distribution in potassium dideuterium phosphate single crystals was studied by Raman and infrared spectroscopy analyses. Results indicated that the pyramidal section exhibited more homogeneous deuterium distribution than the prismatic section. Supersaturation slightly affected the deuterium homogeneity in the pyramidal section of crystals grown rapidly from 80% deuterated solution. Deuterium homogeneity in the prismatic section decreased with increasing supersaturation level of the growth solution.  相似文献

Solubility curves of KDP (KH2PO4) in solutions with different pH values were measured. It was found that the solubility of KDP crystal increased with the reduction pH value of solution. Transparent KDP crystal was grown from solution with 1.5 pH by point seed. Chemical etching experiments revealed that pyramid sector of the crystal displayed more growth defects. Growth defects, such as growth striation and inclusion, were analyzed by white‐beam synchrotron radiation X‐ray topography. The reasons for the formation of these growth defects were discussed. One of the halide derivatives of L ‐glutamic acid which was identified as a semiorganic nonlinear optical material, L ‐glutamic acid hydrochloride [HOOC(CH2)2CH(NH2)COOH.HCl], was grown as bulk single crystal and its significant properties were characterized. The stoichiometric title compound was synthesized and the solubility of its recrystallized form in DD water was determined in the temperature range 30–80 °C by gravimetric method. Structural confirmation was carried out by powder X ‐ray diffraction study through lattice parameter verification. Optical quality smaller dimension single crystals were grown from aqueous solution by self nucleation through slow evaporation of solvent method and a large dimension single crystal was grown by slow cooling method with reversible seed rotation technique. Morphological importances of different growth facets of the as grown crystals were studied through optical goniometry. Unit cell structure of the grown crystal was refined by single crystal X ‐ray diffraction analysis, functional groups present in the crystal responsible for various modes of vibrations were confirmed by FTIR spectroscopy analysis, thermal stability of the grown crytal was analysed by TG/DTA and DSC and second harmonic generation (SHG) of a fundamental Nd:YAG laser beam by Kurtz technique. Results indicate that the grown crystal is in stoichiometric composition and has significant improvement in its thermal and SHG properties when compared to pure L ‐glutamic acid polymorphs.  相似文献

Surface morphologies of CdHg(SCN)4 (CMTC) crystals grown from solutions with excessive amount of Cd(II) cations (5%, 20% and 50% in molar ratio) have been investigated by atomic force microscopy (AFM). [Cd(SCN)n]2‐n (n ≤ 4) complex anions formed by addition of excessive Cd(II) cations in the solutions have been found to act either as growth units or impurities during CMTC crystal growth. On the prismatic faces, incorporation of [Cd(SCN)n]2‐n (n ≤ 4) complex anions as growth units leads to the formation of well‐oriented protuberance trains at the step fronts, named as “locally anisotropic crystal growth”. These protuberances become fewer, less distinct and nearly disappeared with the increase of excessive Cd(II) cations in the solutions. The pyramidal face, however, varies from regular 2D nucleation growth at a low concentration of Cd(II) to much rougher growth surfaces at high concentrations, exhibiting typical surface morphologies where crystal growth is completely inhibited by impurities. Observations in this experiment provide a new picture of crystal growth.  相似文献

Nonlinear optical material of L‐alaninium oxalate (LAO) has been synthesized and single crystals are grown by slow evaporation technique. The solubility data of LAO is determined in water. Single crystal X‐ray diffraction study showed that LAO belongs to orthorhombic system with a non‐centrosymmetric space‐group P212121. The functional groups have been identified from FT‐IR spectrum. The UV‐Vis‐NIR spectrum of LAO shows less optical absorption in the entire visible region. The second harmonic generation (SHG) in the material was estimated using Nd:YAG laser. The mechanical properties of the grown crystals are studied using Vickers microhardness tester. Mixed crystals of potassium dihydrogen phosphate and ammonium dihydrogen phosphate were grown onto point seeds by the method of temperature reduction. It was found that the regeneration process of z‐cut point seeds became more and more difficult with increasing KH2PO4 concentration in the solution mixture. The interior stress and cracking of the mixed crystals were analyzed by synchrotron X‐ray topography. Large numbers of stress stripes were found at the seed and sectors boundaries. The lattice parameters of the pyramid and prismatic sectors of the prepared mixed crystal were calculated according to the X‐ray diffraction patterns. With solution containing 8 mol % KH2PO4, the lattice volumes of the prismatic sector of the mixed crystal were 1.3% larger than that of the pyramid sector of the crystal. Chemical etching revealed microcracks with length of hundreds of microns in the mixed crystals, which tended to spread and led to crystal cracking. (© 2009 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. L‐histidinium acetate dihydrate {abbreviated as LHAc; [C6H10 N3O2+ C2H3O2 2H2O], a new nonlinear optical (NLO) material has been grown from aqueous solution. The grown crystals were subjected to X‐ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and FT‐Raman analyses. Thermal studies have been carried out for its thermal stability. InBi0.8Sb0.2 single crystals have been grown by zone melting method. The freezing interface temperature gradient of 3 °C/cm has been found to yield the best quality crystals obtainable at growth velocity 1.0 cm/hr. Traingular features have been obtained on the free surface of the as grown crystal. A new dislocation etchant based on nitric acid has been found to give reproducible etch-pitting on the cleavage surface. Standard tests for a dislocation etchant have been carried out and results are reported.  相似文献

GaN crystals were prepared by heating a Ga melt with 1 at% Li3N against Ga at 750 °C in Na vapor under N2 pressures of 0.4–1.0 MPa. The GaN crystals grown at 1.0 MPa of N2 were colorless and transparent prismatic, having a size of approximately 0.7 mm in length. A secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS) showed the contaminant of lithium in the obtained crystals. A large broad yellow band emission peak of 2.28 eV was observed at room temperature in the photoluminescence spectrum in addition to the near band emission peak of GaN at 3.39 eV and a small broad satellite emission at 3.24 eV. Phenylalanine [C9H11NO2] is one of the essential amino acids in humans. DL‐phenylalanine was crystallized in silica gel under suitable pH conditions by reduction of solubility method. L(+)Glutamic acid hydrochloride [HOOC (CH2)2CH(NH2) COOH·HCl], a monoamino dicarboxylic acid salt of L‐Glutamic acid was synthesized and the synthesis was confirmed by FTIR analysis. Solubility of the material in water was determined. Pure and Thiourea doped L‐Glutamic acid hydrochloride crystals were grown by low temperature solution growth using solvent evaporation technique. XRD, UV‐Vis‐NIR analyses were carried out for both pure and thiourea doped crystals. The crystals were qualitatively analyzed by EDAX analysis and the presence of thiourea was confirmed. The cell parameters of L‐Glutamic acid hydrochloride have been determined as a = 5.151 Å, b = 11.79 Å, c = 13.35 Å by X‐ray diffraction analysis and it crystallizes in orthorhombic space group P212121. UV‐Vis‐NIR spectra analysis showed good optical transmission in the entire visible region for both pure and doped crystals. Micro hardness of both pure and doped crystals has been determined using Vickers micro hardness tester. The SHG efficiencies of both pure and doped crystals were determined using Kurtz powder test and pure L‐Glutamic acid hydrochloride crystal was found to possess better efficiency than thiourea doped L‐Glutamic acid hydrochloride crystals. Single crystals of lead zinc niobate‐lead titanate (1‐x)Pb(Zn1/3Nb2/3)O3–xPbTiO3 for x = 8% and 9% have been grown by flux method using Lead Oxide (PbO) as flux. Low scan rate XRD has been carried out to investigate on the structural influence of the compositional variations in the grown crystals. Transmission spectra in the range of UV‐Vis‐Near IR and mid IR regions have been carried out to understand the distortions caused in the BO6 octahedral lattice. Morphological aspects of as‐grown PZN‐PT crystals have also been investigated. Dielectric measurements clearly explained the dependence of Tc and diffusiveness with PT content. Germanium (Ge) single crystals with an extremely low density of grown-in dislocations were grown by the Czochralski (CZ) technique with boron oxide (B2O3) liquid. Because attachment of particles floating on the melt surface to a growing Ge crystal leads to generation of dislocations during the growth, partial covering of the Ge melt surface with B2O3 liquid was attempted. Such attachment of particles was drastically suppressed or the particles were caught by the introduction of B2O3 liquid, and a particle-free Ge melt was realized in the central region of the melt surface. Ge single crystals were successfully grown from such melt, the grown-in dislocation density being 0–1×103 cm−2, which was remarkably lower than that in Ge crystals grown by a conventional CZ technique. The contaminations by B and O atoms of the grown crystal detected by SIMS analysis were very low. These Ge crystals have the potential for application to be applied as high-quality, dislocation-free substrates of GaAs solar cells for various usages including in space.  相似文献

The structures of two crystalline specimens cut out from the pyramidal and prismatic growth sectors of a K(H0.052D0.948)2PO4 single crystal have been studied by diffuse neutron scattering and precision diffuse X-ray scattering. Diffuse scattering is concentrated in the vicinity of the Bragg reflections and is practically the same in specimens cut out from different growth sectors of a single crystal. X-ray diffraction analysis using the extinction parameters provided the establishment of a higher perfection of the specimen cut out from the prismatic growth sector. The precision X-ray studies revealed different configurations of hydrogen bonds in the specimens.  相似文献

Single crystals of L‐Prolinium tartrate (C5H10NO2)+ (C4H5O6), a new organic non‐linear optical material of size: 15 × 10 × 10 mm3 were grown using submerged seed solution growth method. Characterization of the crystals was made using single crystal X‐ray diffraction and density determination. Spectroscopic, thermal, optical and mechanical studies were carried out. These studies show that the crystals are thermally stable upto 161°C, transparent for the fundamental and second harmonic generation of Nd: YAG (λ = 1064 nm) laser and possess good mechanical strength. Second harmonic generation (SHG) conversion efficiency was investigated to explore the NLO characteristics of this material using Kurtz and Perry method and it was found that the SHG conversion efficiency is about 90% of that of the standard KDP crystals. Calcium oxalate monohydrate (COM) formation on the semi-batch precipitation of CaCl2 and Na2C2O4 solutions in the stoichiometric ratio carried out at pH = 6 and 37 or 70°C, respectively, was studied. When a certain level of supersaturation in the system is reached, individual COM crystals of a rather uniform size are formed. These crystals then grown and form ‘loose’ agglomerates that later develop into compact and spherical particles. The particle size distribution (PSD) rapidly shifts during early stages of precipitation towards larger sizes as a result of crystal growth and agglomeration. Later the PSD reaches a shape and position on the size axis that remain virtually constant with progressing precipitation. COM agglomerates consisting of mainly intergrown crystals are formed by mechanism of primary and secondary agglomeration. The primary agglomeration can constitute an important factor in urolithiasis.  相似文献

Single crystals of Sr5Pb3NiO12 have been grown using a flux method and the structure, related to those of Sr5Pb3MO12 (M = Co or Cu), has been solved by single crystal X-ray methods in space group P 2m (a = 10.1356(11), c = 3.5337(3) Å, V = 314.38(6) Å3, Z = 1). The structure of Sr5Pb3NiO12 contains infinite chains of edge-sharing PbO6 octahedra which are linked together into trigonal pillars by Ni cations which adopt trigonal prismatic coordination. These pillars, which pack in a pseudo hcp array, are separated by strontium cations. There is evidence for some disorder at the prismatic sites.  相似文献
