A chemometric approach based on the combined use of the principal component analysis (PCA) and artificial neural network (ANN) was developed for the multicomponent determination of caffeine (CAF), mepyramine (MEP), phenylpropanolamine (PPA) and pheniramine (PNA) in their pharmaceutical preparations without any chemical separation. The predictive ability of the ANN method was compared with the classical linear regression method Partial Least Squares 2 (PLS2). The UV spectral data between 220 and 300 nm of a training set of sixteen quaternary mixtures were processed by PCA to reduce the dimensions of input data and eliminate the noise coming from instrumentation. Several spectral ranges and different numbers of principal components (PCs) were tested to find the PCA-ANN and PLS2 models reaching the best determination results. A two layer ANN, using the first four PCs, was used with log-sigmoid transfer function in first hidden layer and linear transfer function in output layer. Standard error of prediction (SEP) was adopted to assess the predictive accuracy of the models when subjected to external validation. PCA-ANN showed better prediction ability in the determination of PPA and PNA in synthetic samples with added excipients and pharmaceutical formulations. Since both components are characterized by low absorptivity, the better performance of PCA-ANN was ascribed to the ability in considering all non-linear information from noise or interfering excipients.  相似文献

In this work, different approaches for variable selection are studied in the context of near-infrared (NIR) multivariate calibration of textile. First, a model-based regression method is proposed. It consists in genetic algorithm optimisation combined with partial least squares regression (GA-PLS). The second approach is a relevance measure of spectral variables based on mutual information (MI), which can be performed independently of any given regression model. As MI makes no assumption on the relationship between X and Y, non-linear methods such as feed-forward artificial neural network (ANN) are thus encouraged for modelling in a prediction context (MI-ANN). GA-PLS and MI-ANN models are developed for NIR quantitative prediction of cotton content in cotton-viscose textile samples. The results are compared to full-spectrum (480 variables) PLS model (FS-PLS). The model requires 11 latent variables and yielded a 3.74% RMS prediction error in the range 0-100%. GA-PLS provides more robust model based on 120 variables and slightly enhanced prediction performance (3.44% RMS error). Considering MI variable selection procedure, great improvement can be obtained as 12 variables only are retained. On the basis of these variables, a 12 inputs ANN model is trained and the corresponding prediction error is 3.43% RMS error.  相似文献

An integrated multisensor composed by six ISFET devices selective to common ions and heavy metals combined with a flow injection analysis (FIA) system has been applied as an electronic tongue to grape juice and wine sample analysis. The data obtained for several grape and wine variety samples analysis have been treated using multiparametric tools like principal component analysis (PCA) and soft independent modelling class analogy technique (SIMCA) for the patterning recognition and classification of samples and partial least squares (PLS) regression for quantification of several parameters of interest in wine production. The results obtained have demonstrated the potential of using those multisensors as electronic tongues not only for distinguishing the samples according to the grape variety and the vintage year but also for quantitative prediction of several sample parameters.  相似文献

In this work, a strategy was proposed to discriminate Polygoni Multiflori Radix (PMR) and its adulterant (Cynanchi Auriculati Radix, CAR). Ultra‐high performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC) fingerprints were established to analyze samples containing PMR, CAR and mixtures simultaneously. Multivariate classification methods were applied to analyze the obtained UHPLC fingerprints, including principal component analysis (PCA), partial least square discriminant analysis (PLS‐DA), soft independent modeling of class analogy (SIMCA), support vector machine discriminant analysis (SVMDA) and counter‐propagation artificial neural network (CP‐ANN). A plot of PCA score showed that PMR and CAR samples belonged to separate clusters (PMR class and CAR class), and samples of mixtures were located near PMR or CAR classes. Analysis by PLS‐DA, SVMDA and CP‐ANN performed well for recognition and prediction in terms of PMR and CAR samples. Moreover, the PLS‐DA method performed best in the detection of adulterated samples, even if the adulterant was about 25%.  相似文献

Simultaneous determination of several elements (U, Ta, Mn, Zr and W) with inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES) in the presence of spectral interference was performed using chemometrics methods. True comparison between artificial neural network (ANN) and partial least squares regression (PLS) for simultaneous determination in different degrees of overlap was investigated. The emission spectra were recorded at uranium analytical line (263.553 nm) with a 0.06 nm spectral window by ICP-AES. Principal component analysis was applied to data and scores on 5 dominant principal components were subjected to ANN. A 5-5-5 (input, hidden and output neurons) network was used with linear transfer function after both hidden and output layers. The PI,S model was trained with five latent variables and 20 samples in calibration set. The relative errors of predictions (REP) in test set were 3.75% and 3.56% for ANN and PLS respectively.  相似文献

Diesel properties determined by ASTM reference methods as cetane index, density, viscosity, distillation temperatures at 50% (T50) and 85% (T85) recovery, and the total sulfur content (%, w/w) were modeled by FTIR-ATR, FTNIR, and FT-Raman spectroscopy using partial last square regression (PLS) and artificial neural network (ANN) spectral analysis. In the PLS models, 45 diesel samples were used in the training group and the other 45 samples were used in the validation. In the ANN analysis a modular feedforward network was used. Sixty diesel samples were used in the neural network training and other 30 samples were used in the validation. Two different ATR configurations were compared in the FTIR, a conventional (ATR1) and an immersion (ATR2) cell. The ATR1 cell presented the best results, with smaller prediction errors (root mean square error of prediction, RMSEP). The comparison of the three PLS models (FTIR-ATR1, FTNIR, and FT-Raman) shows that reasonable values of R2 and RMSEP were obtained by the FTIR-ATR1 and FTNIR models in the evaluation of density, viscosity, and T50. The PLS/FT-Raman models presented reasonable results only for the T50 property. None of the techniques was able to generate suitable PLS calibration models for the determination of sulfur content. The ANN/FT-Raman models presented the best performances, with all models presenting R2-values above 85% some of them with RMSEP values significantly smaller than those obtained with FTIR-ATR and FTNIR. The ANN/FT-Raman and ANN/FTIR-ATR1 models were able to estimate the total sulfur content of diesel with 0.01% (w/w) accuracy.  相似文献

It is well known that the predictions of the single response orthogonal projections to latent structures (OPLS) and the single response partial least squares regression (PLS1) regression are identical in the single‐response case. The present paper presents an approach to identification of the complete y ‐orthogonal structure by starting from the viewpoint of standard PLS1 regression. Three alternative non‐deflating OPLS algorithms and a modified principal component analysis (PCA)‐driven method (including MATLAB code) is presented. The first algorithm implements a postprocessing routine of the standard PLS1 solution where QR factorization applied to a shifted version of the non‐orthogonal scores is the key to express the OPLS solution. The second algorithm finds the OPLS model directly by an iterative procedure. By a rigorous mathematical argument, we explain that orthogonal filtering is a ‘built‐in’ property of the traditional PLS1 regression coefficients. Consequently, the capabilities of OPLS with respect to improving the predictions (also for new samples) compared with PLS1 are non‐existing. The PCA‐driven method is based on the fact that truncating off one dimension from the row subspace of X results in a matrix X orth with y ‐orthogonal columns and a rank of one less than the rank of X . The desired truncation corresponds exactly to the first X deflation step of Martens non‐orthogonal PLS algorithm. The significant y ‐orthogonal structure of X found by PCA of X orth is split into two fundamental parts: one part that is significantly contributing to correct the first PLS score toward y and one part that is not. The third and final OPLS algorithm presented is a modification of Martens non‐orthogonal algorithm into an efficient dual PLS1–OPLS algorithm. Copyright © 2014 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In this work, simultaneous determination of low levels of 226Ra and uranium in aqueous samples were performed by alpha-liquid scintillation counting (LSC) in conjunction with artificial neural network (ANN) and partial least squares (PLS). The counting rates at 73 channels, which were selected by genetic algorithm, were used for training. A PLS model with four latent variables and a principle component ANN model (4-4-2) with linear transfer function after hidden and output layers were created. Total relative error of prediction for PLS and ANN in synthetic mixtures was 18.05% and 24.78%, respectively. The matrix effect was studied by spiking the real samples with radium and uranium. Laser induced fluorescence was used for assessment of uranium prediction results in real samples.  相似文献

The pharmaceutical industry faces increasing regulatory pressure to optimize quality control. Content uniformity is a basic release test for solid dosage forms. To accelerate test throughput and comply with the Food and Drug Administration's process analytical technology initiative, attention is increasingly turning to nondestructive spectroscopic techniques, notably near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy (NIRS). However, validation of NIRS using requisite linearity and standard error of prediction (SEP) criteria remains a challenge. This study applied wavelet transformation of the NIR spectra of a commercial tablet to build a model using conventional partial least squares (PLS) regression and an artificial neural network (ANN). Wavelet coefficients in the PLS and ANN models reduced SEP by up to 60% compared to PLS models using mathematical spectra pretreatment. ANN modeling yielded high-linearity calibration and a correlation coefficient exceeding 0.996.  相似文献

The on‐line monitoring of batch processes based on principal component analysis (PCA) has been widely studied. Nonetheless, researchers have not paid so much attention to the on‐line application of partial least squares (PLS). In this paper, the influence of several issues in the predictive power of a PLS model for the on‐line estimation of key variables in a batch process is studied. Some of the conclusions can help to better understand the capabilities of the proposals presented for on‐line PCA‐based monitoring. Issues like the convenience of batch‐wise or variable‐wise unfolding, the method for the imputation of future measurements and the use of several sub‐models are addressed. This is the first time that the adaptive hierarchical (or multi‐block) approach is extended to the PLS modelling. Also, the formulation of the so‐called trimmed scores regression (TSR), a powerful imputation method defined for PCA, is extended for its application with PLS modelling. Data from two processes, one simulated and one real, are used to illustrate the results. Copyright © 2008 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

A method using the ring-oven technique for pre-concentration in filter paper discs and near infrared hyperspectral imaging is proposed to identify four detergent and dispersant additives, and to determine their concentration in gasoline. Different approaches were used to select the best image data processing in order to gather the relevant spectral information. This was attained by selecting the pixels of the region of interest (ROI), using a pre-calculated threshold value of the PCA scores arranged as histograms, to select the spectra set; summing up the selected spectra to achieve representativeness; and compensating for the superimposed filter paper spectral information, also supported by scores histograms for each individual sample. The best classification model was achieved using linear discriminant analysis and genetic algorithm (LDA/GA), whose correct classification rate in the external validation set was 92%. Previous classification of the type of additive present in the gasoline is necessary to define the PLS model required for its quantitative determination. Considering that two of the additives studied present high spectral similarity, a PLS regression model was constructed to predict their content in gasoline, while two additional models were used for the remaining additives. The results for the external validation of these regression models showed a mean percentage error of prediction varying from 5 to 15%.  相似文献

Different calibration techniques are available for spectroscopic applications that show nonlinear behavior. This comprehensive comparative study presents a comparison of different nonlinear calibration techniques: kernel PLS (KPLS), support vector machines (SVM), least-squares SVM (LS-SVM), relevance vector machines (RVM), Gaussian process regression (GPR), artificial neural network (ANN), and Bayesian ANN (BANN). In this comparison, partial least squares (PLS) regression is used as a linear benchmark, while the relationship of the methods is considered in terms of traditional calibration by ridge regression (RR). The performance of the different methods is demonstrated by their practical applications using three real-life near infrared (NIR) data sets. Different aspects of the various approaches including computational time, model interpretability, potential over-fitting using the non-linear models on linear problems, robustness to small or medium sample sets, and robustness to pre-processing, are discussed. The results suggest that GPR and BANN are powerful and promising methods for handling linear as well as nonlinear systems, even when the data sets are moderately small. The LS-SVM is also attractive due to its good predictive performance for both linear and nonlinear calibrations.  相似文献
