We consider supply chain scheduling problems where customers release jobs to a manufacturer that has to process the jobs and deliver them to the customers. The jobs are released on-line, that is, at any time there is no information on the number, release and processing times of future jobs; the processing time of a job becomes known when the job is released. Preemption is allowed. To reduce the total costs, processed jobs are grouped into batches, which are delivered to customers as single shipments; we assume that the cost of delivering a batch does not depend on the number of jobs in the batch. The objective is to minimize the total cost, which is the sum of the total flow time and the total delivery cost. For the single-customer problem, we present an on-line two-competitive algorithm, and show that no other on-line algorithm can have a better competitive ratio. We also consider an extension of the algorithm for the case of m customers, and show that its competitive ratio is not greater than 2m if the delivery costs to different customers are equal.  相似文献

In this paper we consider a single-machine common due window assignment and scheduling problem with batch delivery cost. The starting time and size of the due window are decision variables. Finished jobs are delivered in batches. There is no capacity limit on each delivery batch, and the cost per batch delivery is fixed and independent of the number of jobs in the batch. The objective is to find a job sequence, a delivery date for each job, and a starting time and a size for the due window that jointly minimize the total cost comprising earliness, weighted number of tardy jobs, job holding, due window starting time and size, and batch delivery. We provide some properties of the optimal solution and present polynomial-time algorithms for the problem.  相似文献

This paper addresses the production and delivery scheduling integration problem; a manufacturer receives orders from one customer while the orders need to be processed on one or two machines and be sent to the customer in batches. Sending several jobs in batches will reduce the transportation cost but it may increase the number of tardy jobs. The objective is to minimize the sum of the total weighted number of tardy jobs and the delivery costs. The structural properties of the problem for a single machine and special cases of the two-machine flow shop problem are investigated and used to set up a new branch and bound algorithm. A heuristic algorithm for upper bound calculation and two approaches for lower bound calculation are also introduced. Results of computational tests show significant improvement over an existing dynamic programming method.  相似文献

We consider the problem of scheduling n groups of jobs on a single machine where three types of decisions are combined: scheduling, batching and due-date assignment. Each group includes identical jobs and may be split into batches; jobs within each batch are processed jointly. A sequence independent machine set-up time is needed between each two consecutively scheduled batches of different groups. A due-date common to all jobs has to be assigned. A schedule specifies the size of each batch, i.e. the number of jobs it contains, and a processing order for the batches. The objective is to determine a value for the common due-date and a schedule so as to minimize the sum of the due date assignment penalty and the weighted number of tardy jobs. Several special cases of this problem are shown to be ordinary NP-hard. Some cases are solved in O(n log n) time. Two pseudopolynomial dynamic programming algorithms are presented for the general problem, as well as a fully polynomial approximation scheme.  相似文献

In on-line integrated production–distribution problems, customers release jobs to a manufacturer that has to process the jobs and deliver them to the customers. The jobs are released on-line, that is, at any time there is no information about future jobs. Processed jobs are grouped into batches, which are delivered to the customers as single shipments. The total cost (to be minimized) is the sum of the total weighted flow time and the total delivery cost. Such on-line integrated production–distribution problems have been studied for the case of uncapacitated batches. We consider the capacitated case with an upper bound on the size of a batch. For several versions of the problem, we present efficient on-line algorithms, and use competitive analysis to study their worst-case performance.  相似文献

This paper addresses scheduling a set of jobs on a single machine for delivery in batches to customers or to other machines for further processing. The problem is a natural extension of minimizing the sum of flow times by considering the possibility of delivering jobs in batches and introducing batch delivery costs. The scheduling objective adopted is that of minimizing the sum of flow times and delivery costs. The extended problem arises in the context of coordination between machine scheduling and a distribution system in a supply chain network. Structural properties of the problem are investigated and used to devise a branch-and-bound solution scheme. Computational experiments show significant improvements over an existing dynamic programming algorithm.  相似文献

We study a supply chain scheduling problem, where a common due date is assigned to all jobs and the number of jobs in delivery batches is constrained by the batch size. Our goal is to minimize the sum of the weighted number of tardy jobs, the due-date-assignment costs and the batch-delivery costs. We show that some well-known NP\mathcal{NP}-hard problems reduce to our problem. Then we propose a pseudo-polynomial algorithm for the problem, establishing that it is NP\mathcal{NP}-hard only in the ordinary sense. Finally, we convert the algorithm into an efficient fully polynomial time approximation scheme.  相似文献

We consider a scheduling model in which several batches of jobs need to be processed by a single machine. During processing, a setup time is incurred whenever there is a switch from processing a job in one batch to a job in another batch. All the jobs in the same batch have a common due date that is either externally given as an input data or internally determined as a decision variable. Two problems are investigated. One problem is to minimize the total earliness and tardiness penalties provided that each due date is externally given. We show that this problem is NP-hard even when there are only two batches of jobs and the two due dates are unrestrictively large. The other problem is to minimize the total earliness and tardiness penalties plus the total due date penalty provided that each due date is a decision variable. We give some optimality properties for this problem with the general case and propose a polynomial dynamic programming algorithm for solving this problem with two batches of jobs. We also consider a special case for both of the problems when the common due dates for different batches are all equal. Under this special case, we give a dynamic programming algorithm for solving the first problem with an unrestrictively large due date and for solving the second problem. This algorithm has a running time polynomial in the number of jobs but exponential in the number of batches.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider coordinated production and interstage batch delivery scheduling problems, where a third-party logistics provider (3PP) delivers semi-finished products in batches from one production location to another production location belonging to the same manufacturer. A batch cannot be delivered until all jobs of the batch are completed at the upstream stage. The 3PP is required to deliver each product within a time T from its release at the upstream stage. We consider two transportation modes: regular transportation, for which delivery departure times are fixed at the beginning, and express transportation, for which delivery departure times are flexible. We analyze the problems faced by the 3PP when either the manufacturer dominates or the 3PP dominates. In this context, we investigate the complexity of several problems, providing polynomiality and NP-completeness results.  相似文献

This paper addresses scheduling a set of jobs on a single machine for delivery in batches to one customer or to another machine for further processing. The extended problem arises in the context of coordination between machine scheduling and a distribution system in a supply chain network. For the special case, when the maximum number of batches is fixed, the branch-and-bound scheme provided shows significant improvements over an existing dynamic-programming algorithm.  相似文献

Traditional scheduling problems assume that there are always infinitely many resources for delivering finished jobs to their destinations, and no time is needed for their transportation, so that finished products can be transported to customers without delay. So, for coordination of these two different activities in the implementation of a supply chain solution, we studied the problem of synchronizing production and air transportation scheduling using mathematical programming models. The overall problem is decomposed into two sub-problems, which consists of air transportation allocation problem and a single machine scheduling problem which they are considered together. We have taken into consideration different constraints and assumptions in our modeling such as special flights, delivery tardiness and no delivery tardiness. For these purposes, a variety of models have been proposed to minimize supply chain total cost which encompass transportation, makespan, delivery earliness tardiness and departure time earliness tardiness costs.  相似文献

The Coordination of Scheduling and Batch Deliveries   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
This paper considers several scheduling problems where deliveries are made in batches with each batch delivered to the customer in a single shipment. Various scheduling costs, which are based on the delivery times of the jobs, are considered. The objective is to minimize the scheduling cost plus the delivery cost, and both single and parallel machine environments are considered. For many combinations of these, we either provide efficient algorithms that minimize total cost or show that the problem is intractable. Our work has implications for the coordination of scheduling with batch delivery decisions to improve customer service.  相似文献

This paper considers single machine scheduling with past-sequence-dependent (psd) delivery times, in which the processing time of a job depends on its position in a sequence. We provide a unified model for solving single machine scheduling problems with psd delivery times. We first show how this unified model can be useful in solving scheduling problems with due date assignment considerations. We analyze the problem with four different due date assignment methods, the objective function includes costs for earliness, tardiness and due date assignment. We then consider scheduling problems which do not involve due date assignment decisions. The objective function is to minimize makespan, total completion time and total absolute variation in completion times. We show that each of the problems can be reduced to a special case of our unified model and solved in O(n 3) time. In addition, we also show that each of the problems can be solved in O(nlogn) time for the spacial case with job-independent positional function.

In this paper, we present a mixed-integer fuzzy programming model and a genetic algorithm (GA) based solution approach to a scheduling problem of customer orders in a mass customizing furniture industry. Independent job orders are grouped into multiple classes based on similarity in style so that the required number of setups is minimized. The family of jobs can be partitioned into batches, where each batch consists of a set of consecutively processed jobs from the same class. If a batch is assigned to one of available parallel machines, a setup is required at the beginning of the first job in that batch. A schedule defines the way how the batches are created from the independent jobs and specifies the processing order of the batches and that of the jobs within the batches. A machine can only process one job at a time, and cannot perform any processing while undergoing a setup. The proposed formulation minimizes the total weighted flowtime while fulfilling due date requirements. The imprecision associated with estimation of setup and processing times are represented by fuzzy sets.  相似文献

We consider a scheduling problem in which n independent and simultaneously available jobs are to be processed on a single machine. The jobs are delivered in batches and the delivery date of a batch equals the completion time of the last job in the batch. The delivery cost depends on the number of deliveries. The objective is to minimize the sum of the total weighted flow time and delivery cost. We first show that the problem is strongly NP-hard. Then we show that, if the number of batches is B, the problem remains strongly NP-hard when B ? U for a variable U ? 2 or B ? U for any constant U ? 2. For the case of B ? U, we present a dynamic programming algorithm that runs in pseudo-polynomial time for any constant U ? 2. Furthermore, optimal algorithms are provided for two special cases: (i) jobs have a linear precedence constraint, and (ii) jobs satisfy the agreeable ratio assumption, which is valid, for example, when all the weights or all the processing times are equal.  相似文献

This paper considers a scheduling problem in a two-machine flowshop of two batch processing machines. On each batch processing machine, jobs are processed in a batch, and each batch is allowed to contain jobs up to the maximum capacity of the associated machine. The scheduling problem is analyzed with respect to three due date related objectives including maximum tardiness, number of tardy jobs and total tardiness. In the analysis, several solution properties are characterized and based upon these properties, three efficient polynomial time algorithms are developed for minimizing the due date related measures.  相似文献
