Stimuli responsive hydrogels (PNIPAAm‐MSp) with a thermoresponsive backbone and photochromic pendant groups were synthesized via free radical polymerization using N‐isopropylacrylamide, modified spironaphthoxazines with a polymerizable double bond (MSp) as photochromic monomer, the crosslinker N,N′‐methylenebis(acrylamide) and the initiator 2,2′‐azobis(isobutyronitrile) in dimethylsulfoxide. The polymers are dual responsive, in that poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAAm) responds to temperature changes whereas the pendant spironaphthoxazines respond to light. Irradiation enhanced the water absorption of the polymers while increases in temperature decreased it. The irradiated PNIPAAm‐MSp showed best water absorption at 0 °C (Q = 3.25) while water desorbed at higher temperatures (35 °C; Q = 0.30); where Q is the amount of water absorbed by a gram of dry polymer. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide)‐block‐poly(ethylene oxide)‐block‐poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAAm‐b‐PEO‐b‐PNIPAAm) triblock copolymer was synthesized via the reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer/macromolecular design via the interchange of xanthate (RAFT/MADIX) process with xanthate‐terminated poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) as the macromolecular chain transfer agent. The successful synthesis of the ABA triblock copolymer inspired the preparation of poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide)‐block‐poly(ethylene oxide) (PNIPAAm‐b‐PEO) copolymer networks with N,N′‐methylenebisacrylamide as the crosslinking agent with the similar approach. With the RAFT/MADIX process, PEO chains were successfully blocked into poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAAm) networks. The unique architecture of PNIPAAm‐b‐PEO networks allows investigating the effect of the blocked PEO chains on the deswelling and reswelling behavior of PNIPAAm hydrogels. It was found that with the inclusion of PEO chains into the PNIPAAm networks as midblocks, the swelling ratios of the hydrogels were significantly enhanced. Furthermore, the PNIPAAm‐b‐PEO hydrogels displayed faster response to the external temperature changes than the control PNIPAAm hydrogel. The accelerated deswelling and reswelling behaviors have been interpreted based on the formation of PEO microdomains in the PNIPAAm networks, which could act as the hydrophilic tunnels to facilitate the diffusion of water molecules in the PNIPAAm networks. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this work, the poly(methacrylic acid‐coN‐isopropylacrylamide) thermosensitive composite hollow latex particles was synthesized by a three‐step reaction. The first step was to synthesize the poly(methyl methacrylate‐co‐methacrylic acid) (poly(MMA‐MAA)) copolymer latex particles by the method of soapless emulsion polymerization. The second step was to polymerize methacrylic acid (MAA), N‐isopropylacrylamide (NIPAAm), and N,N′‐methylenebisacrylamide in the presence of poly(MMA‐MAA) latex particles to form the linear poly(methyl methacrylate‐co‐methacrylic acid)/crosslinking poly(methacrylic acid‐coN‐isopropylacrylamide) (poly(MMA‐MAA)/poly(MAA‐NIPAAm)) core–shell latex particles. In the third step, the core–shell latex particles were heated in the presence of ammonia solution to form the crosslinking poly(MAA‐NIPAAm) thermosensitive hollow latex particles. The morphologies of poly(MMA‐MAA)/poly(MAA‐NIPAAm) core–shell latex particles and poly(MAA‐NIPAAm) hollow latex particles were observed. The influences of crosslinking agent and shell composition on the lower critical solution temperature of poly(MMA‐MAA)/poly(MAA‐NIPAAm) core–shell latex particles and poly(MAA‐NIPAAm) hollow latex particles were, respectively, studied. Besides, the poly(MAA‐NIPAAm) thermosensitive hollow latex particles were used as carriers to load with the model drug, caffeine. The effect of various variables on the amount of caffeine loading and the efficiency of caffeine release was investigated. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. Novel thermo‐responsive poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide)‐block‐poly(l ‐lactide)‐block‐poly(N‐isopropylacylamide) (PNIPAAm‐b‐PLLA‐b‐PNIPAAm) triblock copolymers were successfully prepared by atom transfer radical polymerization of NIPAAm with Br‐PLLA‐Br macroinitiator, using a CuCl/tris(2‐dimethylaminoethyl) amine (Me6TREN) complex as catalyst at 25 °C in a N,N‐dimethylformamide/water mixture. The molecular weight of the copolymers ranges from 18,000 to 38,000 g mol?1, and the dispersity from 1.10 to 1.28. Micelles are formed by self‐assembly of copolymers in aqueous medium at room temperature, as evidenced by 1H NMR, dynamic light scattering (DLS) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The critical micelle concentration determined by fluorescence spectroscopy ranges from 0.0077 to 0.016 mg mL?1. 1H NMR analysis in selective solvents confirmed the core‐shell structure of micelles. The copolymers exhibit a lower critical solution temperature (LCST) between 32.1 and 32.8 °C. The micelles are spherical in shape with a mean diameter between 31.4 and 83.3 nm, as determined by TEM and DLS. When the temperature is raised above the LCST, micelle size increases at high copolymer concentrations due to aggregation. In contrast, at low copolymer concentrations, decrease of micelle size is observed due to collapse of PNIPAAm chains. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. Anionic hydrogen‐transfer homopolymerization of N‐isopropylacrylamide (NIPAAm) was carried out using t‐BuOK as an initiator in DMF under microwave irradiation. After 100 W of microwave was irradiated to the reaction mixture at 140°C for 6 h in the temperature control mode, corresponding polymer was obtained in 10% yield. In the case of conventional oil bath heating, by contrast, corresponding polymer was not obtained in similar anionic polymerization conditions. With 100 W and 2.45 GHz of microwave irradiation, formation of the polymer was obtained. Microwave‐assisted anionic hydrogen‐transfer copolymerization of NIPPAm and acrylamide (AAm) led to the formation of thermo‐sensitive copolymers whose thermo‐sensitivity was controlled by the NIPAAm/AAm unit ratio. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this work, the poly(methyl methacrylate‐co‐methacrylic acid)/poly(methacrylic acid‐co‐N‐isopropylacrylamide) thermosensitive composite semi‐hollow latex particles was synthesized by three processes. The first process was to synthesize the poly(methyl methacrylate‐co‐methacrylic acid) (poly (MMA‐MAA)) copolymer latex particles by the method of soapless emulsion polymerization. The second process was to polymerize methacrylic acid (MAA), N‐isopropylacrylamide (NIPAAm), and crosslinking agent, N,N′‐methylenebisacrylamide, in the presence of poly(MMA‐MAA) latex particles to form the linear poly(methyl methacrylate‐co‐methacrylic acid)/crosslinking poly(methacrylic acid‐co‐N‐isopropylacrylamide) (poly(MMA‐MAA)/poly(MAA‐NIPAAm)) core–shell latex particles with solid structure. In the third process, part of the linear poly(MMA‐MAA) core of core–shell latex particles was dissolved by ammonia to form the poly(MMA‐MAA)/poly(MAA‐NIPAAm) thermosensitive semi‐hollow latex particles. The morphologies of the semi‐hollow latex particles show that there is a hollow zone between the linear poly(MMA‐MAA) core and the crosslinked poly(MAA‐NIPAAm) shell. The crosslinking agent and shell composition significantly influenced the lower critical solution temperature of poly(MMA‐MAA)/poly(MAA‐NIPAAm) semi‐hollow latex particles. Besides, the poly(MMA‐MAA)/poly(MAA‐NIPAAm) thermosensitive semi‐hollow latex particles were used as carriers to load with the model drug, caffeine. The processes of caffeine loaded into the semi‐hollow latex particles appeared four situations, which was different from that of solid latex particles. In addition, the phenomenon of caffeine released from the semi‐hollow latex particles was obviously different from that of solid latex particles. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Temperature sensitive poly{N‐[3‐(dimethylaminopropyl)]methacrylamide‐co‐acrylamide} [P(DMAPMA‐co‐AAm)] hydrogels were prepared by the free‐radical crosslinking copolymerization of corresponding monomers in water with N,N‐methylenebisacrylamide as the crosslinker, ammonium persulfate as the initiator, and N,N,N′,N′‐tetramethylethylenediamine as the activator. The swelling equilibrium of the P(DMAPMA‐co‐AAm) hydrogels was investigated as a function of temperature in aqueous solutions of the anionic surfactant sodium dodecyl sulfate and the cationic surfactant dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide. In pure water, regardless of the amount of N,N‐methylenebisacrylamide, the P(DMAPMA‐co‐AAm) hydrogels showed a discontinuous phase transition between 30 and 36 °C. However, the transition temperature changed from discontinuous to continuous with the addition of surfactants; this was ascribed to the conversion of nonionic P(DMAPMA‐co‐AAm) hydrogels into polyelectrolyte hydrogels due to the binding of surfactants through hydrophobic interactions. Additionally, the concentrations of free sodium dodecyl sulfate and dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide ions were measured at different temperatures by conductometry, and it was found that the electric conductivity of the P(DMAPMA‐co‐AAm)–surfactant systems depended strongly on the swelling ratio; most notably, it changed drastically near the phase‐transition temperature of the P(DMAPMA‐co‐AAm) hydrogel. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Polysulfone‐g‐poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PSf‐g‐PNIPAAm) graft copolymers were prepared from atom transfer radical polymerization of NIPAAm using chloromethylated PSf as a macro‐initiator. The chain lengths of PNIPAAm of the graft copolymers were controllable with polymerization reaction time. The chemical structures of the graft copolymers were characterized with FTIR, NMR, and elemental analysis and their amphiphilic characteristics were examined and discussed. The PSf‐g‐PNIPAAm graft copolymers and the nanoparticles made from the graft copolymers exhibited repeatable temperature‐responsive properties in heating–cooling cycles. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this work, poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide‐co‐acrylic acid) (poly(NIPAAm‐AA)) copolymer latex particles (microgels) were synthesized by the method of soapless emulsion polymerization. Poly(NIPAAm‐AA) copolymer microgels have the property of being thermosensitive. The concentration of acrylic acid (AA) and crosslinking agent N,N′‐methylenebisacrylamide were important factors to influence the lower critical solution temperature (LCST) of poly(NIPAAm‐AA) microgels. The effects of AA and crosslinking agent on the swelling behavior of poly(NIPAAm‐AA) microgels were also studied. The poly(NIPAAm‐AA) copolymer microgels were then used as a thermosensitive drug carrier to load caffeine. The effects of concentration of AA and crosslinking agent on the control release of caffeine were investigated. How the AA content and crosslinking agent influenced the morphology and LCST of the microgels was discussed in detail. The relationship of morphology, swelling, and control release behavior of these thermosensitive microgels was established. A new scheme was proposed to interpret the control release of the microgels with different morphological structures. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Radical polymerization of N‐isopropylacrylamide (NIPAAm) in toluene at low temperatures, in the presence of fluorinated‐alcohols, produced heterotactic polymer comprising an alternating sequence of meso and racemo dyads. The heterotacticity reached 70% in triads when polymerization was carried out at ?40 °C using nonafluoro‐tert‐butanol as the added alcohol. NMR analysis revealed that formation of a 1:1 complex of NIPAAm and fluorinated‐alcohol through C?O···H? O hydrogen bonding induces the heterotactic specificity. A mechanism for the heterotactic‐specific polymerization is proposed. Examination of the phase transition behavior of aqueous solutions of heterotactic poly(NIPAAm) revealed that the hysteresis of the phase transition between the heating and cooling cycles depended on the average length of meso dyads in poly(NIPAAm). © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A novel method used for the preparation of poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAAm) films of varying crosslink density under homogeneous/heterogeneous conditions is described in this paper. Photopolymerization of the N‐isopropylacrylamide (NIPAAm) monomer in water (homogeneous at ~7°C and heterogeneous at ~40°C) or a mixture of water/ethanol (50:50, heterogeneous at ~7°C) was carried out using 1‐[4‐(2‐hydroxyethoxy)‐phenyl]‐2‐hydroxy‐2‐methyl‐1‐propane‐1‐one (hydrophilic) or 2‐hydroxy‐2‐methyl propiophenone (hydrophobic) photo‐initiator. In order to investigate the effect of temperature and crosslink density, polymerization was carried out at ~7°C [below lower critical soluble temperature (LCST)] and ~40°C (above LCST) using varying amounts of N,N′‐methylene bisacrylamide (BIS) ranging from 1–4 wt%. Degree of swelling (determined by optical microscopy), phase transition temperature [determined by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC)] as well as morphology (scanning electron microscopy) were found to be dependent on solvent system (homogeneous/heterogeneous), temperature of polymerization and crosslink density. Hydrogels prepared at ~7°C using hydrophobic photo‐initiator and water/ethanol (50:50) as solvent, showed much higher degree of swelling at all levels of crosslink density as compared to hydrogel prepared at ~7°C using hydrophilic photo‐initiator and water as solvent. Hydrogels were used for patterning which may find applications in microfluidic devices. Copyright © 2006 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The results of network parameters of poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide)/montmorillonite (PNIPAAm/MMT) hydrogels prepared with two different types and concentrations of accelerators (tetramethylethylenediamine, TEMED and quaternary TEMED containing decyl bromide, QTEMED) using three different clay contents (1.0, 3.0, and 5.0 wt% of total monomer concentration) at two different polymerization temperatures (10 and 32°C) were presented and discussed. It was observed that when the reaction temperature of PNIPAAm crosslinked with MMT was chosen as 10°C both volume swelling ratios (i.e., thermodynamic interaction) and shear moduli, G increased. In hydrogels, thermodynamic interaction is reflected by polymer–water interaction parameter (χ). The lower is the value of χ, the stronger is the interaction between polymer and water, and the lower is the interaction between hydrophobic groups or between polymer chains. In addition, increase in MMT content was slightly affected on these intermolecular interactions. Therefore, this effect that combines high‐shear modulus with lower value of χ in the same molecular structure was defined as clay content‐independent diffusion behavior. On the other hand, in the case of the hydrogels synthesized with the higher concentration of TEMED and MMT, the values of χ and G decreased. These facts were interpreted that increase in both accelerator concentration and clay content, for fixed NIPAAm concentration made the number of effective crosslinks between MMT layers smaller. In this study, the poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide‐methylacrylate acid)/Fe3O4/poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide‐methylacrylate acid) (poly(NIPAAm‐MAA)/Fe3O4/poly(NIPAAm‐MAA)) two‐shell magnetic composite hollow latex particles were synthesized by four steps. The poly(methyl methacrylate‐co‐methylacrylate acid) (poly(MMA‐MAA)) copolymer latex particles were synthesized first. Then, the second step was to polymerize NIPAAm, MAA, and crosslinking agent in the presence of poly(MMA‐MAA) latex particles to form the linear poly(MMA‐MAA)/crosslinking poly(NIPAAm‐MAA) core–shell latex particles. Then, the core–shell latex particles were heated in the presence of NH4OH to dissolve the linear poly(MMA‐MAA) core to form the poly(NIPAAm‐MAA) hollow latex particles. In the third step, the Fe3O4 nanoparticles were generated in the presence of poly(NIPAAm‐MAA) hollow polymer latex particles and formed the poly(NIPAAm‐MAA)/Fe3O4 magnetic composite hollow latex particles. The fourth step was to synthesize poly(NIPAAm‐MAA) in the presence of poly(NIPAAm‐MAA)/Fe3O4 latex particles to form the poly(NIPAAm‐MAA)/Fe3O4/poly(NIPAAm‐MAA) two‐shell magnetic composite hollow latex particles. The effect of various variables such as reactant concentration, monomer ratio, and pH value on the morphology and volume‐phase transition temperature of two‐shell magnetic composite hollow latex particles was studied. Moreover, the latex particles were used as carriers to load with caffeine, and the caffeine‐loading characteristics and caffeine release rate of latex particles were also studied. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this thesis, we studied the convenient synthesis and characterizations of thermo‐responsive materials with double response. To achieve these, AB‐type diblock copolymers comprising of poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (NIPAAm) segment and poly(NIPAAm‐co‐(N‐(hydroxymethyl)acrylamide) (HMAAm)) one were designed. That was synthesized in one‐pot using an atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) technique. Poly(NIPAAm‐co‐HMAAm)s synthesized separately showed sensitive thermo‐response and the cloud point was completely tunable by the composition of HMAAm. As expected, the block copolymers exhibited double thermo‐responsive profiles in aqueous solution. The responsive behavior was discussed by precise trace by 1H NMR and turbidity measurements. From these results, we could confirm almost independent dehydration of each segment. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 46: 6142–6150, 2008  相似文献

A functionalized cyclam was synthesized by the attachment of a polymerizable acryloyl group to one of the four nitrogens on the cyclam molecule. The polymerization of the functionalized cyclam was performed with N‐isopropylacrylamide and N,N′‐methylene bisacrylamide, and the gels obtained were studied in the presence of different transition‐metal‐ion solutions. There was a drastic difference in the phase‐transition temperature (Tc) of the poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAAm)/cyclam gel in comparison with the pure PNIPAAm gel. For the described system, a Tc shift of 15 °C was obtained. The presence of functionalized cyclam increased the hydrophilicity and Tc of the aforementioned polymer gels in deionized water (at pH 6) because of the presence of protonated amino moieties. The PNIPAAm/cyclam gels showed a dependence of the swelling behavior on pH. Tc of the pure PNIPAAm gel was weakly influenced by the presence of any transition‐metal ions, such as Cu2+, Ni2+, Zn2+, and Mn2+. The addition of Cu2+ or Ni2+ to the PNIPAAm/cyclam gel reduced Tc of the polymer gel, and a shift of approximately 12 °C was observed. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Stimuli‐responsive poly[(N‐isopropylacrylamide‐co‐maleic anhydride)‐g‐poly(ethylene oxide)]/poly(ethylene imine) macrobranched macrocomplexes were synthesized by (1) the radical copolymerization of N‐isopropylacrylamide and maleic anhydride with α,α′‐azobisisobutyronitrile as an initiator in 1,4‐dioxane at 65 °C under a nitrogen atmosphere, (2) the polyesterification (grafting) of prepared poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide‐co‐maleic anhydride) containing less than 20 mol % anhydride units with α‐hydroxy‐ω‐methoxy‐poly(ethylene oxide)s having different number‐average molecular weights (Mn = 4000, 10,000, or 20,000), and (3) the incorporation of macrobranched copolymers with poly(ethylene imine) (Mn = 60,000). The composition and structure of the synthesized copolymer systems were determined by Fourier transform infrared, 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy, and chemical and elemental analyses. The important properties of the copolymer systems (e.g., the viscosity, thermal and pH sensitivities, and lower critical solution temperature behavior) changed with increases in the molecular weight, composition, and length of the macrobranched hydrophobic domains. These copolymers with reactive anhydride and carboxylic groups were used for the stabilization of penicillin G acylase (PGA). The conjugation of the enzyme with the copolymers significantly increased the thermal stability of PGA (three times at 45 °C and two times at 65 °C). © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The synthesis of a thermoresponsive hydrogel of poly(glycidyl methacrylate‐coN‐isopropylacrylamide) (PGMA‐co‐PNIPAM) and its application as a nanoreactor of gold nanoparticles are studied. The thermoresponsive copolymer of PGMA‐co‐PNIPAM is first synthesized by the copolymerization of glycidyl methacrylate and N‐isopropylacrylamide using 2,2′‐azobis(isobutyronitrile) as an initiator in tetrahydrofuran at 70 °C and then crosslinked with diethylenetriamine to form a thermoresponsive hydrogel. The lower critical solution temperature (LCST) of the thermoresponsive hydrogel is about 50 °C. The hydrogel exists as 280‐nm spheres below the LCST. The diameter of the spherical hydrogel gradually decreases to a minimum constant of 113 nm when the temperature increases to 75 °C. The hydrogel can act as a nanoreactor of gold nanoparticles because of the coordination of nitrogen atoms of the crosslinker with gold ions, on which a hydrogel/gold nanocomposite is synthesized. The LCST of the resultant hydrogel/gold nanocomposite is similar to that of the hydrogel. The size of the resultant gold nanoparticles is about 15 nm. The hydrogel/gold nanocomposite can act as a smart and recyclable catalyst. At a temperature below the LCST, the thermoresponsive nanocomposite is a homogeneous and efficient catalyst, whereas at a temperature above the LCST, it becomes a heterogeneous one, and its catalytic activity greatly decreases. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The strategy for in situ chemical gelation of poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide‐co‐hydroxylethyl methacrylate) [P(NIPAAm‐co‐HEMA)]‐based polymers was demonstrated. Two types of new P(NIPAAm‐co‐HEMA) derivatives with alkyne and azide pendant groups, respectively, were prepared. When the solutions of the two derivatives were mixed together, a crosslinking reaction, a type of Huisgen's 1,3‐dipolar azide‐alkyne cycloaddition, in the presence of Cu(I) catalyst occurs. The morphology, equilibrium swelling ratio, swelling kinetics, and temperature response kinetics of the in situ gelated hydrogels were studied. In comparison with the conventional PNIPAAm hydrogel, because of the spatial hindrance of polymeric chains, the resulted hydrogels had a macroporous structure as well as a fast shrinking rate. The strategy described here presents a potential alternative to the traditional synthesis techniques for the in situ formation of thermoresponsive hydrogels. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The electrically conductive polypyrrole/dodecylbenzene sulfonic acid/poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide‐co‐acrylic acid) (PPy/DBSA/poly(NIPAAm‐co‐AA)) composite microgels were synthesized by a chemical oxidation of pyrrole in the presence of DBSA as the primary dopant, and poly(NIPAAm‐co‐AA) microgels as the polymeric codopant and template, in which APS was used as the oxidant. It was proposed to prepare “intelligent” polymer microgel particles containing both thermosensitive and electrically conducting properties. The polymerization of pyrrole took place directly inside the microgel networks, leading to formation of composite microgels and the morphology was observed by transmission electron microscope. PPy particles interacted strongly with microgels, as the acid groups of microgels acted as the polymeric codopant. The composite microgels thus formed showed electrically conducting behavior dependent on humidity and temperature. At temperatures lower than lower critical solution temperature, the conductivity decreased with increasing the humidity and a small hysteresis phenomenon was observed. The hysteresis became indistinct when temperature was near volume phase transition temperature. However, after the treatment of high temperature and high humidity, the conductivity increased surprisingly due to the structure reorganization inside the composite microgels. The distinctive functionality of the PPy composite microgels was expected to be utilized in many attractive applications. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Exothermic nonreversing process is predicted to present in the phase transition of poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM). By employing TOPEM‐DSC, exothermic nonreversing heat flow peak is observed for the first time, and it usually appears under nonquasi‐static conditions. The exothermic nonreversing heat flow is proved to be from the formation of hydrogen bonds by the comparative studies on the phase transition of poly(N,N‐diethylacrylamide) (PDEAM) and cyclic heating and cooling of PDEAM and PNIPAM. Further TOPEM‐DSC studies on the phase transition of poly(NIPAM‐co‐DEAM) and poly(NIPAM‐co‐AAm) prove that hydrophobic force rather than hydrogen bonding is the main driving force for the phase transition, and hydrophobic force is also the driving force for the formation of inter‐ and intrachain hydrogen bonding. However, the phase transition driven by only hydrophobic force is a slow process. The combined action of hydrogen bonding and hydrophobic force makes the phase transition occur much faster. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part B: Polym.
