Tropone‐fused, various π‐conjugated polymers ( P2 – P5 ) were synthesized by the palladium‐catalyzed coupling reaction of 1,4‐dibromo‐6,8‐dimethyl‐7H‐benzocyclohepten‐7‐one with aromatic divinyl, diboronic acid, and diethynyl compounds. The molecular orbital calculation of the model compounds was performed to discuss effective conjugation length of the repeating unit of the polymers. The absorption spectra of phenylenevinylene‐type polymers shifted to longer wavelengths than the model compounds by about 60 nm. They exhibited green fluorescence [λmax(em) = 544 and 561 nm]. The absorption spectrum of a phenylene‐type polymer blueshifted by 10 nm; however, that of a phenyleneethynylene‐type polymer redshifted by 83 nm as compared with their model compounds. They showed fluorescence with peak maxima at 457 and 489 nm, respectively. As a result, the absorption spectra of phenylene‐ and phenylenevinylene‐type polymers blueshifted, but that of a phenyleneethynylene‐type polymer redshifted by the annulation of tropone onto a benzene ring in the conjugated polymer. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Two new poly(p‐phenylenevinylene) derivatives were prepared by Heck coupling. They contained alternating conjugated segments on the basis of p‐distyrylbenzene and flexible nonconjugated spacers. The synthesized polymers P1 and P2 carried two m‐terphenyl of four tertbutyl pendants, respectively, per repeat unit. Both polymers were amorphous and exhibited satisfactory thermal stability. Polymer P1 displayed a limited solubility in common organic solvents, whereas P2 dissolved readily in these solvents. The glass‐transition temperature values were 128 °C for P1 and 37 °C for P2 . The polymers emitted blue or violet‐blue light with photoluminescent maxima at about 445 and 460 nm for solutions and thin films, respectively. The bulky pendants reduced their tendency to form aggregates. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 41: 1091–1098, 2003  相似文献

Novel two‐dimensional donor–acceptor (D–A) structured conjugated polymers, P1–P4, were designed and synthesized by introducing electron‐deficient quinoxaline as core and electron‐rich alkoxyl‐phenylenevinylene in side chains and p‐phenylenevinylene, triphenylamine, or thiophene in main chain. Benefited from the D–A structures, the polymers possess low bandgaps of 1.75 eV, 1.86 eV, 1.59 eV, and 1.58 eV for P1, P2, P3, and P4, respectively, and show broad absorption band in the visible region: the shorter wavelength absorption peak at ~400 nm ascribed to the conjugated side chains and the longer wavelength absorption peak between 500 nm and 750 nm belonging to the absorption of the conjugated main chains. Especially, the absorption band of P4 film covers the whole visible range from 300 nm to 784 nm. The power conversion efficiencies of the polymer solar cells based on P1–P4 as donor and PCBM as acceptor are 0.029%, 0.14%, 0.46%, and 0.57%, respectively, under the illumination of AM 1.5, 100 mW/cm2. The polymers with the low bandgap and broad absorption band are promising photovoltaic materials. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 46: 4038–4049, 2008  相似文献

Arylenevinylene‐based π‐conjugated polymers containing imidazolium cationic units in the main chain and their model compounds were synthesized and characterized in terms of optical and electrochemical properties. 9,9‐Bisoctylfluorene, 2,5‐bisdodecyloxybenzene, and 3‐dodecylthiophene were introduced as arylene units with different donor characteristics to evaluate the effect on the highest occupied molecular orbital‐lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (HOMO‐LUMO) gap energy. The UV–vis and fluorescence spectra of cationic polymers and model compounds with iodide counter anion exhibited a significant blue shift with respect to the parent neutral molecules. X‐ray single crystal analysis for model compounds revealed that the effective π‐conjugation length of cationic model compounds decreased compared to the neutral model compounds by means of twisted conformation directed by CH‐π interactions between N‐methyl groups of imidazolium and neighboring aryl units. The cyclic voltammetry measurement suggested the negative shift of LUMO levels by the conversion of imidazole to imidazolium, indicating the electron‐accepting characteristics of cationic imidazolium unit. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new solution‐processable acceptor‐acceptor conjugated copolymer ( P1 ) based on perylene diimide (PDI) incorporating planar electron‐deficient fluorenone was synthesized by palladium(0)‐catalyzed Suzuki coupling reaction. Relative to the donor‐acceptor conjugated copolymer ( P2 ) of PDI and dithienothiophene, polymer P1 exhibits 0.1 eV down shift of lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) level, 70 nm blue shift of low‐energy absorption band, and 0.36 eV increase of optical band gap. Polymer P1 in top‐contact bottom‐gate organic field‐effect transistors exhibits a saturation electron mobility of 0.01 cm2/(V s) in air, while P2 does not function in the same device in air. The better air stability of P1 is attributed to a more dense packing of the polymer chains excluding oxygen or water and lower LUMO level of P1 . © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We report the synthesis, thermal, one‐ and two‐photon properties of poly(2,6‐bis(p‐dihexylaminostyryl)anthracene‐9,10‐diyl‐altN‐octylcarbazole‐3,6‐/2,7‐diyl) ( P1/P2 ). The as‐synthesized polymers exhibit number‐average molecular weights of 1.7 × 104 for P1 and 2.1 × 104 g/mol for P2 . They emit strong one‐ and two‐photon excitation fluorescence with the peak around 502 nm, and the fluorescence quantum yields around 0.76 in chloroform. In film state, P1 and P2 show different red‐shift emission with the peaks at 512 nm and 523 nm, respectively. The DSC measurement reveals that as‐synthesized polymers are all amorphous aggregates with the glass transition temperatures of 131 °C for P1 and 152 °C for P2 . The solution two‐photon absorption (TPA) properties of P1 and P2 in chloroform are measured by the two‐photon‐induced fluorescence method using femtosecond laser pulses (120 fs). The TPA cross sections (δ) are measured over the range of 700–900 nm. The maximal δ of P1 and P2 all appear at ~800 nm and are 1010 GM and 940 GM per repeating unit, respectively. This suggests that no notable interactions among structure units that impair their fluorescence and TPA properties, and the polymers with large δ can be obtained by using the high TPA‐active units as building blocks. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. 2,3‐Bis(4‐fluorobenzoyl)naphthalene was synthesized, and poly(aryl ether)s were prepared through a reaction with various bisphenols in the solvent N,N‐dimethylacetamide in the presence of potassium carbonate. Through a reaction with hydrazine or benzylamine, the corresponding benzo[g]phthalazine or benz[g]isoquinoline was formed. The conversion into heterocyclic structures resulted in a significant straightening of the chains, and the glass‐transition temperatures, inherent viscosities, and apparent molecular weights from size exclusion chromatography were significantly increased, whereas the solubilities decreased. The diketone‐containing polymers were colorless, and the benzo[g]phthalazine‐ and benz[g]isoquinoline‐containing polymers were yellow. The diketone polymers showed strong UV absorption maxima up to 350 nm, with fluorescence emission maxima around 475 nm. The heterocyclic polymers had broad absorptions up to around 450 nm, with strong emission maxima around 550 nm. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Novel conjugated polymers containing 3,9‐ or 2,9‐linked carbazole units in the main chain were synthesized by the polycondensation of ethynyl‐ and iodo‐substituted 9‐arylenecarbazolylene monomers, and their optical and electrical properties were studied. Polymers with weight‐average molecular weights of 3400–12,000 were obtained in 76–99% yields by the Sonogashira coupling polycondensation in piperidine or tetrahydrofuran (THF)/piperidine at 30 °C for 48 h. All the 3,9‐linked polymers absorbed light around 300 nm. The para‐phenylene‐linked polymer also absorbed light around 350 nm, while meta‐phenylene‐linked one did not. The 3,9‐linked polymers absorbed light at a wavelength longer than the 2,9‐linked one. The polymers emitted blue fluorescence with high quantum yields (0.21–0.78) upon excitation at the absorption maxima. The polymers were oxidized around 0.6 V, and reduced around 0.5 V. Poly( 1 ) showed the dark conductivity of 3.7 × 10?11 S/cm (103 V/cm). © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 47: 3506–3517, 2009  相似文献

UV‐visible absorption and fluorescence properties of three series of σ–π‐conjugated polymers (copolymers of alternative oligothienylene and oligosilylene units) have been studied in dioxane solution. The energies of the absorption maximum, fluorescence maximum, and the 0–0 transition are found to be linearly dependent on the reciprocal of the number of thiophene rings in the repeating unit of the polymer chain, but almost independent of the silicon atom number. The σ–π‐conjugation in the polymers results in red shift in the absorption and fluorescence maxima, higher fluorescence quantum yields, and longer fluorescence lifetimes of the polymers, with respect to their corresponding analogous α‐oligothiophenes. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. In this work, we report the synthesis, characterization, and application of two regioirregular naphthalenediimide (NDI)‐based alternating conjugated polymers, namely P1 and P2 , in which nitrile‐substituted moiety, 2,3‐bis(thiophen‐2‐yl)acrylonitrile and NDI moiety act as donor and acceptor unit, respectively. The two regioirregular polymers possess low‐lying LUMO energy levels of ?3.92 eV for P1 and ?3.96 eV for P2 . Both polymers possess typical dual‐band UV?Vis?NIR absorption profiles of NDI‐based polymers, and show broadened and red‐shifted absorption spectra in the solid state compared with those in solutions. Field‐effect transistor devices with top‐gate bottom‐contact configuration were used to evaluate the polymers' semiconducting properties. The two polymers exhibited promising and air‐stable ambipolar charge transport characteristics. Thin film microstructure investigations (AFM and 2D‐GIXRD) suggest both polymers formed continuous and smooth thin films, and adopted predominantly face‐on molecular packing in the solid state. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Here, a family of donor/acceptor (D/A) alternating copolymers and random two‐acceptor and three‐acceptor copolymers were synthesized via Suzuki polymerization based on heptadecan‐9‐yl substituted carbazole as a donor and 4,7‐Bis(5‐bromothiophene‐2‐yl)benzo[c][1,2,5]thiadiazole (DTBT), 2,5‐diethylhexyl‐3,6‐bis(5‐bromothiophene‐2‐yl)pyrrolo[3,4‐c]‐pyrrole‐1,4‐dione (DPP) and 2,8‐dibromo‐4,10‐bis(2‐ethylhexyl)thieno[2′,3′:5,6] pyrido[3,4‐g]thieno[3,2‐c]isoquinoline‐5,11(4H,10H)‐dione (TPTI) as acceptors. For the first time, a relatively new electron‐deficient TPTI unit was used as an acceptor in carbazole‐based conjugated polymers. Introduction of the electron‐deficient TPTI unit into the polymer backbone increased the open‐circuit voltage (Voc) of the resulting polymer solar cells up to 0.96 V. PCTPTI and PCDTBT‐TPTI exhibited external quantum efficiencies (EQE) up to 75%. All random two‐acceptor copolymers showed broadened absorption profiles compared to the D/A alternating analogues. In order to further improve the light absorption, a random three‐acceptor copolymer was synthesized for the first time, resulting in the broadest absorption in the range of 350–750 nm. Highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) energies and Voc values of the resulting polymers could be successfully tuned by introducing different monomer units into the polymer backbone in different ratios. These results indicate that TPTI is a promising acceptor unit for conjugated polymers and that the random copolymer approach is a successful tool for fine tuning of polymer properties. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new set of push‐pull type 2D‐conjugated polymers (P1–P4) were designed and synthesized where A1, A2 (oxygen analogues) and A3, A4 (sulfur analogues) are electron deficient units used as co‐monomers. On introduction of new repeating units into the polymer backbone, significant changes were observed in optoelectronic properties. Furthermore, the heteroatom exchange in new repeating units has also brought notable changes in photophysical properties, in particular P1 and P2 (oxygen analogues) showed bathochromic shift in UV‐vis absorption spectra and deeper HOMO energy levels than P3, P4 (sulfur analogues). Interestingly P1, P3 absorption spectra shows a vibronic shoulder (659, 652 nm) peak in lower energy region, and this might originated from non‐covalent interactions between the electron rich and electron deficient units. In addition, the systematic investigation of these polymers with additive and solvent treatment, yielded in enhanced power conversion efficiency of 4.29% for P3‐based devices in bulk heterojunction organic solar cells. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. New polyethers containing alternating conjugated segments of p‐terphenyl or p‐quinquephenyl with p‐styrylbenzene side groups and aliphatic spacers were synthesized with pyrylium salts. They had moderate molecular weights, were amorphous, and dissolved in tetrahydrofuran, chloroform, and other common organic solvents. The glass‐transition temperatures were 68–82 and 110–153 °C for the polymers that carried p‐terphenyl and p‐quinquephenyl moieties, respectively. The absorption spectra showed a peak around 325 nm, and the band gaps were 3.27–3.34 eV, which were calculated from the onset absorption in solution. The photoluminescence maxima were at 393–398 nm in solution and 422–449 nm in thin films, indicating that the polymers were violet‐blue‐emitting materials. The photoluminescence quantum yields in solution were up to 0.25. The polymers displayed both in concentrated solutions and in the solid state intramolecular or intermolecular interactions. The polarity of the solvent influenced the shape of the photoluminescence curve. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 40: 682–693, 2002; DOI 10.1002/pola.10151  相似文献

Besides the donor–acceptor (D–A) type, acceptor–acceptor (A–A) polymers are another class of important alternative conjugated copolymers, but have been less studied in the past. In this study, two kinds of A–A polymers, P1 and P2 , have been designed and synthesized based on diketopyrrolopyrrole in combination with the second electron‐deficient unit, perylenediimide or thieno[3,4‐c]pyrrole‐4,6‐dione. UV–vis absorption spectroscopy revealed that these two kinds of polymers have a band gap of 1.28–1.33 eV. Their highest occupied molecular orbital and lowest unoccupied molecular orbital energy levels are around ?5.6 and ?4.0 eV for P1 polymers, whereas ?5.4 and ?3.7 eV for P2 polymers, respectively. Density functional theory study disclosed that P1 backbone is in a vastly twisting state, whereas that of P2 is completely planar. Furthermore, organic field‐effect transistor devices were fabricated using these two kinds of polymers as the active material. Of interest, the devices based on P1 polymers displayed n‐channel behaviors with an electron mobility in the order of 10?4 cm2 V?1 s?1. In contrast, the P2 ‐based devices exhibited only p‐channel charge transportation characteristics with a hole mobility in the order of 10?3 cm2 V?1 s?1. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Two new linear and hyperbranched conjugated polymers P1 and P2 have been synthesized by Sonogashira coupling reaction, in which the main chain consists of bithiazole moieties as electron acceptors and triphenylamino groups as donors. The conjugated polymers were characterized by TGA, UV–vis absorption, fluorescence emission, electrochemical cyclic voltammetry, and two‐photon absorption measurements. They exhibited excellent solubility in organic solvents and high thermal stability (5% of weight loss at 299 °C). The two‐photon absorption cross sections (σ) measured by the open aperture Z‐scan technique using 140 femtosecond (fs) pulse were determined to be 1014 and 552 GM per repeating unit for P1 and P2 , respectively. This result shows that the σ of linear conjugated P1 is higher than that of hyperbranched P2 , indicating that the linear polymer offers better intramolecular charge transfer ability. In THF, P1 and P2 exhibit intense frequency up‐converted fluorescence under the excitation of 140 fs pulses at 800 nm with the peaks located at 580 and 548 nm, respectively. Meanwhile, the optical limiting behaviors for the polymers were studied by using a focused 800 nm laser beam of 140 fs duration. It was found that these polymers also exhibit good optical‐limiting properties and make them potential candidates for optical limiters in the photonic fields. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this study, two low bandgap copolymers composed of fluorene (Fl), cyclopentadithiophene (CDT), and 4,7‐bis(2‐thienyl)‐2,1,3‐benzothiadiazole (DBT) were synthesized, and their optical, electrochemical, and photovoltaic (PV) characteristics were investigated for applications in PV devices. The feed ratio of the Fl and CDT moieties was modulated to tune the electronic structures and resulting optical properties of the polymers. In the copolymeric structures, the Fl‐CDT unit absorbs the short‐wavelength UV/vis regions, and the CDT‐DBT (or Fl‐DBT) unit with strong intramolecular charge transfer characteristics covers the long‐wavelength visible regions. P1 exhibited a wide UV absorption spectrum covering the UV and entire visible region in the range of 300–800 nm, and P2 showed absorption covering from 300 to 700 nm. UV/vis and electrochemical studies confirmed the desirable highest occupied molecular orbital/lowest unoccupied molecular orbital levels of the copolymers with bandgaps of 1.62–1.86 eV, enabling efficient electron transfer and a high open‐circuit voltage when blending them with fullerene derivatives. When the polymers were blended with [6,6]phenyl‐C61‐butyric acid methyl ester, P1 exhibited the best device performance with an open‐circuit voltage of 0.66 V, short‐circuit current of 4.92 mA cm?2, and power conversion efficiency of 1.13% under Air Mass 1.5 Global (AM 1.5G, 100 mW cm?2) illumination. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A synthetic method to obtain an arsole‐containing π‐conjugated polymer by the post‐transformation of the organotitanium polymer titanacyclopentadiene‐2,5‐diyl unit with an arsenic‐containing building block is described. The UV/Vis absorption maximum and onset of the polymer were observed at 517 nm and 612 nm, respectively. The polymer exhibits orange photoluminescence with an emission maximum (Emax) of 600 nm and the quantum yield (Φ) of 0.05. The polymer proved to exhibit a quasi‐reversible redox behavior in its cyclic voltammetric (CV) analysis. The energy levels of the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) and lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) were estimated to be ?5.43 and ?3.24 eV, respectively, from the onsets for oxidation and reduction signals in the CV analysis. Further chemical modification of the arsole unit in the π‐conjugated polymer by complexation of gold(I) chloride occurred smoothly resulting in the bathochromic shift of the UV/Vis absorption and lowering of the LUMO energy level.  相似文献

Sodium salts of water‐soluble polymers poly{[2,5‐bis(3‐sulfonatopropoxy)‐1,4‐phenylene]‐alt‐[2,5‐bis(hexyloxy)‐1,4‐phenylene]} ( P1 ), poly{[2,5‐bis(3‐sulfonatopropoxy)‐1,4‐phenylene]‐alt‐[2,5‐bis(dodecyloxy)‐1,4‐phenylene]} ( P2 ), poly{[2,5‐bis(3‐sulfonatopropoxy)‐1,4‐phenylene]‐alt‐[2,5‐bis(dibenzyloxy)‐1,4‐phenylene]} ( P3 ), poly[2‐hexyloxy‐5‐(3‐sulfonatopropoxy)‐1,4‐phenylene] ( P4 ), and poly[2‐dodecyloxy‐5‐(3‐sulfonatopropoxy)‐1,4‐phenylene] ( P5 )] were synthesized with Suzuki coupling reactions and fully characterized. The first group of polymers ( P1 – P3 ) with symmetric structures gave lower absorption maxima [maximum absorption wavelength (λmax) = 296–305 nm] and emission maxima [maximum emission wavelength (λem) = 361–398 nm] than asymmetric polymers P4 (λmax = 329 nm, λem = 399 nm) and P5 (λmax = 335 nm, λem = 401 nm). The aggregation properties of polymers P1 – P5 in different solvent mixtures were investigated, and their influence on the optical properties was examined in detail. Dynamic light scattering studies of the aggregation behavior of polymer P1 in solvents indicated the presence of aggregated species of various sizes ranging from 80 to 800 nm. The presence of alkoxy groups and 3‐sulfonatopropoxy groups on adjacent phenylene rings along the polymer backbone of the first set hindered the optimization of nonpolar interactions. The alkyl chain crystallization on one side of the polymer chain and the polar interactions on the other side allowed the polymers ( P4 and P5 ) to form a lamellar structure in the polymer lattice. Significant quenching of the polymer fluorescence upon the addition of positively charged viologen derivatives or cytochrome‐C was also observed. The quenching effect on the polymer fluorescence confirmed that the newly synthesized polymers could be used in the fabrication of biological and chemical sensors. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Low‐band‐gap π‐conjugated polymers composed of π‐excessive thiophene and π‐deficient benzothiadiazole and quinoxaline units were prepared in high yields by a polycondensation method using palladium cross‐coupling reactions of alkylthiophene diacetylenes, 4,7‐dibromo‐2,1,3‐benzothiadiazole, and 5,8‐dibromo‐2,3‐dipyridine‐2‐ylquinoxaline. The copolymers were characterized by NMR, IR, UV, gel permeation chromatography, and elemental analysis. High‐molecular‐weight (weight‐average molecular weight up to 82,600 g/mol), thermostable, soluble, and film‐forming materials were obtained. The polymers were photoluminescent in chloroform and showed metallic luster in the solid state. The absorption and emission in solution and in the solid state of the polymers revealed that the polymers generated a π‐stacked structure in the solid state, and the polymer molecules in the film were ordered. Thin films of poly[3‐dodecylthiophen‐2,5‐diylethynylene‐(benzo[1,2,5]thiadiazole‐4,7‐diyl)ethynylene] ( P‐1 ), poly[3,4‐di dodecylthiophen‐2,5‐diylethynylene‐(benzo[1,2,5]thiadiazole‐4,7‐diyl)ethynylene] ( P‐2 ), poly[3‐dodecylthiophene‐2,5‐diylethynylene‐(2,3‐dipyridine‐2‐ylquinoxaline‐5,8‐diyl)ethynylene] ( P‐3 ), and poly[3,4‐didodecylthiophene‐2,5‐diylethynylene‐(2,3‐dipyridine‐2‐ylquinoxaline‐5,8‐diyl)‐ethynylene] ( P‐4 ) exhibited an optical band gap of ~1.85–2.08 eV. The highest occupied molecular orbital and lowest unoccupied molecular orbital levels of the polymers were determined from electrochemical measurements. In the absorption and emission spectra of these polymers in chloroform/methanol mixtures, all the polymers revealed solvatochromic effects, which were related to the formation of aggregates, as confirmed by temperature‐dependence absorption investigations. The absorption spectra of P‐2 and P‐4 at different temperatures also revealed significant effects of the structure on the molecular interactions. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Both fully conjugated polymer poly[2‐methoxy‐5‐(2‐ethylhexyloxy)‐1,4‐phenylene vinylene‐alt‐9,10‐anthrylene vinylene] [poly(MEHPV‐AV)] and conjugated/nonconjugated block copolymers poly(alkanedioxy‐2‐methoxy‐1,4‐phenylene‐1,2‐ethenylene‐9,10‐anthrylene‐1,2‐ehthenylene‐3‐methoxy‐1,4‐phenylene)[poly(BFMPx‐AV), (x = 4, 8, and 12)] were synthesized by Horner–Emmons reaction utilizing potassium tert‐butoxide. Of these synthesized polymers poly(BFMP4‐AV) and poly(BFMP8‐AV), which has four and six methylene groups as solubility spacer in the main chain exhibited liquid crystalline to isotropic transition in addition to the two first order transitions. Light‐emitting diode (LED)s made from the organic solvent soluble poly(BFMP12‐AV) as emitting layer showed blue shift in the emission spectrum compared to the one made from fully conjugated poly(MEHPV‐AV). Although poly(BFMP12‐AV) had higher barrier to the electron injection from cathode than poly(MEHPV‐AV), the luminance efficiency of LED made from poly(BFMP12‐AV) was about 25 times higher than the one made from poly(MEHPV‐AV), which had fully conjugated structure. LEDs fabricated by both poly(BFMP12‐AV) and poly(MEHPV‐AV) exhibited Stoke's shift in the range of 155 to 168 nm from the absorption maximum due to the excimer formation between the ground and excited state anthracene groups. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
