Using time-domain reflectometry (TDR) technique, we have measured the complex permittivity of tertiary butyl alcohol (TBA)–water mixtures in the frequency range of 10 MHz–30GHz, at temperatures 15°C, 20°C and 25°C. The complex permittivity of TBA–water mixture shows Debye-type behaviour. The dielectric parameters such as dielectric constant and relaxation time were obtained from the complex permittivity spectra. The Kirkwood correlation factor and Bruggeman factor have also been determined to investigate inter- and intramolecular interaction among associating liquids.  相似文献

The spin probes 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxyl (TEMPO), 4-hydroxy-2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxyl (TEMPOL), and 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-4-trimethylammoniumpiperidine-1-oxylIodide (CAT-1) are examined in a number of ionic liquids based on substituted imidazolium cations and tetrafluoroborate and hexafluorophosphate anions, respectively. The reorientation correlation times tau(R) of the spin probes in these systems have been determined by complete spectra simulation and, for rapid reortientation, by analysis of the intensities of the hyperfine lines of the electron spin resonance (ESR) spectra. A comparison of the results with those from the model system glycerol/water and selected organic solvents is made. Additions of diamagnetic and paramagnetic ions allow the conclusion that salt effects and spin exchange are present, and that both are superimposed by motional effects. Specific interactions in the ionic liquids, as well as between the spin-probe molecules and the constituents of the ionic liquids are reflected in the spectra of the spin probes, depending on their molecular structure.  相似文献

The main concepts of the new theory of processes with the participation of excess electrons in polar liquids are considered. The theory takes into account that (1) polar liquids are electrostatically inhomogeneous (local potentials on molecules are different) and (2) a molecule can accept an electron for a short time to produce an anion in an unstable state with a certain energy and lifetime. A discrete model of a substance consisting of molecules with constant dipole moments is used. Excess electrons in a liquid are described by energy distribution density, and the behavior of electrons, by quantum mechanics equations. The experimental data on the photoionization of water and aqueous solutions of salts and the low threshold energy of photons (~6.5 eV) at which solvated electrons appear in water are explained. The absorption spectra of water with excess electrons at the first and subsequent time moments after their photogeneration are reproduced theoretically. The dependence of the photoemission of solvated electrons from potassium-ammonia solutions on the energy of photons is interpreted. The continuous spectrum of spontaneous radiation of solvated electrons in liquid ammonia and water is calculated. The optical absorption spectra of solvated electrons in such polar liquids as water and ammonia are reproduced.  相似文献

Complex dielectric spectra of ethylene glycol and of various derivatives as well as of mixtures of water with an ethylene glycol oligomer and with a poly(ethylene glycol) dimethyl ether oligomer have been measured. The spectra can be well represented by a Cole-Cole [Cole and Cole, J. Chem. Phys. 9, 341 (1941)] spectral function. The extrapolated low frequency (static) permittivity of this function has been evaluated to yield the effective dipole orientation correlation factor of the liquids. The relaxation time of the ethylene glycols displays a characteristic dependence upon the ratio of concentrations of hydrogen bond donating and accepting groups, indicating two opposing effects. With increasing availability of hydrogen bonding sites effects of association and also of dynamical destabilization increase. Both effects exist also in the mixture of water with the oligomers. They are discussed in terms of a wait-and-switch model of dipole reorientation in associating liquids. Another feature in the dependence of the dielectric relaxation time of poly(ethylene glycol)/water mixtures upon mixture composition has been tentatively assigned to precritical demixing behavior of the binary liquids in some temperature range.  相似文献

Extensive applications of ionic liquids (ILs) may result in their accumulation in the ecological environment and organisms. Although ILs are popularly called "green solvents", their toxicity, in fact, has been exhibited. Therefore the interaction of ILs with biomolecules is a cutting-edge research subject. Herein, the interactions of 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium carboxylate ionic liquids ([C(4)mim][HCOO], [C(4)mim][CH(3)COO] and [C(4)mim][CH(3)CH(2)COO]) with glucose in water were studied for their volumetric properties, viscosity, conductivity and NMR spectra. Limiting apparent molar volumes (V(Φ, IL)(0)), viscosity B-coefficients, limiting molar conductivities (Λ(0)) and Walden products (Λ(0)η(0)) were evaluated for the ILs in glucose + water solutions. Volumetric interaction parameters were also obtained from the transfer volumes of the ionic liquids. The contributions of the solvent properties (B(1)) and the ionic liquid-solvent interactions (B(2)) to the B-coefficient were extracted, together with molar activation energies (Δμ(IL)(0≠)) of the ionic liquids for viscous flow of the aqueous glucose + IL solution. In addition, the (13)C and (1)H NMR spectra of methyl β-D-glucopyranoside and ILs in β-D-glucopyranoside + IL + D(2)O were studied. The NMR results show that no special and strong interactions were observed between glucopyranoside and the ILs. However, it was confirmed that the H2 on the imidazolium ring has more activity (acidity) than atoms H4 and H5. The macro-properties and their changes were also discussed in terms of the size, structure and solvation of the ILs and glucose.  相似文献

Time-resolved fluorescence spectra and fluorescence anisotropy decay of 2-aminoquinoline (2AQ) have been measured in eight room-temperature ionic liquids, including five imidazolium-based aromatic ionic liquids and three nonaromatic ionic liquids. The same experiments have also been carried out in several ordinary molecular liquids for comparison. The observed time-resolved fluorescence spectra indicate the formation of pi-pi aromatic complexes of 2AQ in some of the aromatic ionic liquids but not in the nonaromatic ionic liquids. The fluorescence anisotropy decay data show unusually slow rotational diffusion of 2AQ in the aromatic ionic liquids, suggesting the formation of solute-solvent complexes. The probe 2AQ molecule is likely to be incorporated in the possible local structure of ionic liquids, and hence the anisotropy decays only through the rotation of the whole local structure, making the apparent rotational diffusion of 2AQ slow. The rotational diffusion time decreases rapidly by adding a small amount of acetonitrile to the solution. This observation is interpreted in terms of the local structure formation in the aromatic ionic liquids and its destruction by acetonitrile. No unusual behavior upon addition of acetonitrile has been found for the nonaromatic ionic liquids. It is argued that the aromaticity of the imidazolium cation plays a key role in the local structure formation in imidazolium-based ionic liquids.  相似文献

The purpose of this investigation is to study the ionic liquid/quartz interface with sum frequency generation vibrational spectroscopy (SFG). SFG spectroscopy was chosen for this study because of its unique ability to yield vibrational spectra of molecules at an interface. Different polarization combinations are used, which probe different susceptibilities, giving SFG the ability to determine molecular orientation at the interface. The ionic liquids used were 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate, [BMIM][BF(4)], and 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate, [BMIM][PF(6)]. To determine the influence of the molecular structure and charge on orientation at the interface, neutral, 1-methylimidazole, and 1-butylimidazole were also studied. Raman spectra and depolarization ratios were obtained for neat samples of 1-methylimidazole, 1-butylimidazole, and 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate recorded from 2700 to 3300 cm(-1). SFG spectra of the 1-methylimidazole/quartz interface showed both methyl and aromatic C-H vibrations. Orientation calculations determined that the ring of the molecule is tilted 45-68 degrees from normal, with the methyl group oriented 32-35 degrees from normal. The SFG spectra of 1-butylimidazole contain several resonances from the alkyl chain with only one weak resonance from the aromatic ring. Orientation calculations suggest that the ring is lying in the plane of the surface with the methyl group pointing 43-47 degrees from normal. The orientation of the [BMIM][PF(6)] ionic liquid was sensitive to trace amounts of water and had to be evacuated to <3 x 10(-5) Torr for the water to be removed. SFG spectra of both ionic liquids were similar, displaying resonances from the alkyl chain as well as the aromatic ring. Orientation analysis suggests the aromatic ring was tilted 45-90 degrees from normal for [BMIM][BF(4)], while the ring for [BMIM][PF(6)] was tilted 38-58 degrees from normal. This suggests the orientation of the molecule is influenced by the size of the anion.  相似文献

Room-temperature ionic liquids form potentially important solvents in novel nuclear waste reprocessing methods, and the solvation, speciation, and complexation behaviors of lanthanides and actinides in these solvents are of great current interest. In the study reported here, the coordination environment of uranyl(VI) in solutions of the room-temperature ionic liquid 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide ([EMIM][Tf(2)N]) containing perchlorate, tetrabutylammonium nitrate, and water was investigated using Raman, ATR-FTIR, and NMR spectroscopies in order to better understand the role played in uranyl(VI) solution chemistry in room-temperature ionic liquids by water and other small, weakly complexing ligands. The (2)H NMR chemical shift for water in a solution of uranyl perchlorate hexahydrate in [EMIM][Tf(2)N] appears at 6.52 ppm, indicating that water is coordinated to uranyl(VI). A broad ν(OH) stretching mode at 3370 cm(-1) in the ATR-FTIR spectrum shows that this coordinated water is engaged in hydrogen bonding with water molecules in a second coordination sphere. A significant upfield shift in the (2)H NMR signal for water and the appearance of distinct ν(as)(HOH) (at 3630 cm(-1)) and ν(s)(HOH) (at 3560 cm(-1)) vibrational bands in the ATR-FTIR spectra show that coordinated water is displaced by nitrate upon formation of the UO(2)(NO(3))(2) and UO(2)(NO(3))(3)(-) complexes. The Raman spectra indicate that perchlorate complexed to uranyl(VI) is also displaced by nitrate. Our results indicate that perchlorate and water, though weakly complexing ligands, do have a role in uranyl(VI) speciation in room-temperature ionic liquids and that Raman, infrared, and NMR spectroscopies are valuable additions to the suite of tools currently used to study the chemical behavior of uranyl(VI)-ligand complexes in these solvents.  相似文献

This review is a survey of the many scientific applications of ultrasonic broadbandspectrometry (absorption and velocity measurements with coherent sound waves)in liquids and liquid systems, covering, at present, a frequency range from nearly10 kHz to 10 GHz. Ultrasonic spectrometry has proved to be an almost universalresearch tool in many laboratories, one that is useful for investigation of variouschemical, biochemical, and physicochemical systems. Sound waves traversingliquids induce periodic perturbations in pressure and temperature, which can shiftequilibria, resulting in characteristic sound absorption and velocity dispersionspectra. An analysis of such spectra yields valuable information about thermodynamic and kinetic parameters of the particular system that is often difficult toobtain by other methods. Since such periodic perturbations imposed on the systemare incremental in nearly all cases, the system can be studied under equilibriumconditions. All nonlinear effects (heating, nonconstant fluid compressibility, andothers) are negligible, permitting, for instance, the application of linearized rateequations. In this review, various examples of measured broadband spectra arepresented. Related elementary processes are discussed. Among these are ionicand molecular reactions, including mechanisms of association and complexation, proton transfer, solvation, isomerization, interconversion, side-group rotation,hydrogen-bonding, as well as stacking processes and micelle formation. Specialattention will be given to the extensive research on chemical relaxation.Fundamental early and recent publications are cited and discussed. Many referencesare included with particular emphasis on less well known research and publicationsfrom countries of the former USSR. This review aims at a demonstration of thewidespread applications of modern ultrasonic techniques in many fields ofliquid-state research.  相似文献

Model liquids have been constructed to study the role of local structure in the anomalous properties of liquid water. The intermolecular potentials were modified by increasing the weight of the Lennard-Jones term relative to the electrostatic term in the SPC/E model for water. The resulting family of liquids varies from SPC/E water to a Lennard-Jones-like liquid. Properties were measured as a function of density and temperature. The local structure was described by two order parameters, one measuring the tetrahedral order and the other measuring the translational order. The translational order parameter was found to be large for both tetrahedral and Lennard-Jones liquids, but to go through a minimum as the potentials were modified, demonstrating that the two types of structure are incompatible. Just as in water several properties (e.g., the translational diffusion coefficient, entropy) exhibit anomalous density dependence as a result of the breakdown of local tetrahedrality, we observed nonmonotonic behavior of the translational diffusion constant and reorientational relaxation rate as the fluids were transformed from tetrahedral to Lennard-Jones-like. This is also an indication of the incompatibility between Lennard-Jones and water-like structure.  相似文献

The ultrafast dynamics, including the intermolecular vibrations and the diffusive orientational dynamics, of the neat C(s) symmetry condensed ring aromatic molecular liquids benzofuran, 1-fluoronaphtalene, and quinoline were investigated for the first time by means of femtosecond Raman-induced Kerr effect spectroscopy. To understand the features of these C(s) condensed ring aromatic molecular liquids, reference singular aromatic molecular liquids, furan, fluorobenzene, pyridine, and benzene, were also studied. High quality low-frequency Kerr spectra of the aromatic molecular liquids were obtained by Fourier-transform deconvolution analysis of the measured Kerr transients. The Kerr spectra of the C(s) condensed ring aromatic molecular liquids are bimodal, as are those of the reference singular aromatic molecular liquids. The first moment of the intermolecular vibrational spectrum and the peak frequencies of the high- and low-frequency components in the broad spectrum band were compared with their molecular properties such as the rotational constants, molecular weight, and intermolecular (bimolecular) force. The comparisons show that the molecular volume (related to molecular weight and rotational constants) is a dominant property for the characteristic frequency of the entire intermolecular vibrational spectrum. The observed intramolecular vibrational modes in the Kerr spectra of the aromatic molecular liquids were also assigned on the basis of the ab initio quantum chemical calculation results. In their picosecond diffusive orientational dynamics, the slowest relaxation time constant for both the condensed ring and singular aromatic molecular liquids can be accounted for by the simple Stokes-Einstein-Debye hydrodynamic model.  相似文献

Ionic liquid surfaces can become electrically charged during X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy experiments, due to the flux of photoelectrons leaving the surface. This causes a shift in the measured binding energies of X-ray photoelectron peaks that depends on the magnitude of the surface charging. Consequently, a charge correction method is required for ionic liquids. Here we demonstrate the nature and extent of surface charging in ionic liquids and model it using chronopotentiometry. We report the X-ray photoelectron spectra for a range of imidazolium based ionic liquids and investigate the use of long alkyl chains (C(n)H(2n+1), n ≥ 8) and the imidazolium nitrogen, both of which are part of the ionic liquid chemical structure, as internal references for charge correction. Accurate and reproducible binding energies are obtained which allow comparisons to be made across ionic liquid-based systems.  相似文献

Canonical ensemble molecular dynamics simulations of liquid methanol, modeled using a rigid-body, pair-additive potential, are used to compute static distributions and temporal correlations of tagged molecule potential energies as a means of characterizing the liquid state dynamics. The static distribution of tagged molecule potential energies shows a clear multimodal structure with three distinct peaks, similar to those observed previously in water and liquid silica. The multimodality is shown to originate from electrostatic effects, but not from local, hydrogen bond interactions. An interesting outcome of this study is the remarkable similarity in the tagged potential energy power spectra of methanol, water, and silica, despite the differences in the underlying interactions and the dimensionality of the network. All three liquids show a distinct multiple time scale (MTS) regime with a 1/ f (alpha) dependence with a clear positive correlation between the scaling exponent alpha and the diffusivity. The low-frequency limit of the MTS regime is determined by the frequency of crossover to white noise behavior which occurs at approximately 0.1 cm (-1) in the case of methanol under standard temperature and pressure conditions. The power spectral regime above 200 cm (-1) in all three systems is dominated by resonances due to localized vibrations, such as librations. The correlation between alpha and the diffusivity in all three liquids appears to be related to the strength of the coupling between the localized motions and the larger length/time scale network reorganizations. Thus, the time scales associated with network reorganization dynamics appear to be qualitatively similar in these systems, despite the fact that water and silica both display diffusional anomalies but methanol does not.  相似文献

Summary A simple method for obtaining laser mass spectra (LMS) of liquids is described using a nitrocellulose membrane or fibrous material as the sample substrate. Laser mass spectra of liquids are presented along with those of solutes in aqueous systems. The use of a liquid matrix with the laser soft ionization method enhances molecular ion formation. Results are presented for charge-transfer derivatization and the influence of solution pH on LMS.  相似文献

Infrared absorption, vibrational circular dichroism, and two-dimensional infrared pump-probe and photon echo spectra of acetylproline solutions are theoretically calculated and directly compared with experiments. In order to quantitatively determine interpeptide interaction-induced amide I mode frequency shifts, high-level quantum chemistry calculations were performed. The solvatochromic amide I mode frequency shift and fluctuation were taken into account by carrying out molecular dynamics simulations of acetylproline dissolved in liquids water and chloroform and by using the extrapolation method developed recently. We first studied correlation time scales of the two amide I vibrational frequency fluctuations, cross correlation between the two fluctuating local mode frequencies, ensemble averaged conformations of the acetylproline molecule in liquids water and chloroform. The corresponding conformations of the acetylproline in liquids water and chloroform are close to the ideal 3(10) helix and the C(7) structure, respectively. A few methods proposed to determine the angle between the two transition dipoles associated with the amide I vibrations were tested and their limitations are discussed.  相似文献

Far-infrared spectra in the range from 600 to 20 cm-1 of two hydrophilic (1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate and 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate) and one hydrophobic (1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate) ionic liquids and their mixtures with water at different concentrations are reported. Shifts of the librational water bands depending on the nature of the anion are found to be related to the strength of the interaction between the water molecules and the anions. For both hydrophilic ionic liquids, the librational band is centered around 460 cm-1, whereas for the hydrophobic ionic liquid, it is shifted to 388 cm-1, indicating less hindered rotation of single water molecules. Multivariate curve resolution, paying special attention to the spectral range from 50 to 350 cm-1, was used to investigate the presence of different species with increasing water concentration. For both hydrophilic ionic liquids, a band located at 153 cm-1 was resolved into two different contributions. A small contribution at 202 cm-1 can be attributed to intermolecular interactions between water molecules forming dimers. The major contribution (centered at 148 cm-1) corresponds to water molecules that do not bond to each other via H-bonding. It is therefore assigned to a hindered translation arising from the stretching of the hydrogen bond between BF4- anions and water molecules. Formation of water dimers in the hydrophobic ionic liquid does not occur. Furthermore, the spectral contribution of the stretching of H-bonds between water molecules and PF6- cannot be unambiguously detected, which indicates an extremely weak interaction between water molecules and this anion.  相似文献

Ultrafast optical Kerr effect (OKE) spectroscopy has been used to study the temperature-dependent dynamics of five aromatic liquids: benzene, benzene-d(6), hexafluorobenzene, mesitylene, and 1,3,5-trifluorobenzene. The intermediate response time of all of the liquids was found to scale with the collective orientational correlation time, as has been observed for other simple liquids. The spectra of hexafluorobenzene, 1,3,5-trifluorobenzene, and mesitylene are qualitatively different from those of the other liquids and exhibit different behavior with temperature. These spectra allow us to assess the influence of different molecular parameters on the shape of the OKE spectrum. On the basis of these data, we propose a model that links the differences in the OKE spectra to corresponding differences in the local ordering of the liquids.  相似文献
