A series of seven homoleptic CuI complexes based on hetero-bidentate P^N ligands was synthesized and comprehensively characterized. In order to study structure–property relationships, the type, size, number and configuration of substituents at the phosphinooxazoline (phox) ligands were systematically varied. To this end, a combination of X-ray diffraction, NMR spectroscopy, steady-state absorption and emission spectroscopy, time-resolved emission spectroscopy, quenching experiments and cyclic voltammetry was used to assess the photophysical and electrochemical properties. Furthermore, time-dependent density functional theory calculations were applied to also analyze the excited state structures and characteristics. Surprisingly, a strong dependency on the chirality of the respective P^N ligand was found, whereas the specific kind and size of the different substituents has only a minor impact on the properties in solution. Most importantly, all complexes except C3 are photostable in solution and show fully reversible redox processes. Sacrificial reductants were applied to demonstrate a successful electron transfer upon light irradiation. These properties render this class of photosensitizers as potential candidates for solar energy conversion issues.  相似文献

Cyclopenta[hi]aceanthrylenes (CPAs) have been functionalized at two of the peripheral positions with electronically inert trimethylsilylethynyl ( 1 ), as well as with electron‐donating 4‐ethynyl‐N,N‐dimethylaniline ( 2 ), ethynyl ZnIIphthalocyanine ( 3 ), and ethynyl ZnIIporphyrin ( 4 ) units. Consistent with X‐ray crystal structures of 2 and 4 , analyses of absorption and fluorescence of 2 – 4 point to strong electronic communication between the CPA and the peripheral units, affording quadrupolar electron donor‐acceptor‐donor charge‐transfer conjugates. By virtue of their quadrupolar/dipolar charge‐transfer characters in the excited state, 2 – 4 exhibit fluoro‐solvatochromism. Transient absorption spectroscopy confirmed delocalized quadrupolar ground states and formation of weakly solvent stabilized quadrupolar singlet excited states. The latter transform into strongly stabilized dipolar excited states before deactivating to the ground state in 2 and give rise to a fully charge separated state in 3 and 4 .  相似文献

C60–bodipy triads and tetrads based on the energy‐funneling effect that show broadband absorption in the visible region have been prepared as novel triplet photosensitizers. The new photosensitizers contain two or three different light‐harvesting antennae associated with different absorption wavelengths, resulting in a broad absorption band (450–650 nm). The panchromatic excitation energy harvested by the bodipy moieties is funneled into a spin converter (C60), thus ensuring intersystem crossing and population of the triplet state. Nanosecond time‐resolved transient absorption and spin density analysis indicated that the T1 state is localized on either C60 or the antennae, depending on the T1 energy levels of the two entities. The antenna‐localized T1 state shows a longer lifetime (τT=132.9 μs) than the C60‐localized T1 state (ca. 27.4 μs). We found that the C60 triads and tetrads can be used as dual functional photocatalysts, that is, singlet oxygen (1O2) and superoxide radical anion (O2 . ?) photosensitizers. In the photooxidation of naphthol to juglone, the 1O2 photosensitizing ability of the C60 triad is a factor of 8.9 greater than the conventional triplet photosensitizers tetraphenylporphyrin and methylene blue. The C60 dyads and triads were also used as photocatalysts for O2 . ?‐mediated aerobic oxidation of aromatic boronic acids to produce phenols. The reaction times were greatly reduced compared with when [Ru(bpy)3Cl2] was used as photocatalyst. Our study of triplet photosensitizers has shown that broadband absorption in the visible spectral region and long‐lived triplet excited states can be useful for the design of new heavy‐atom‐free organic triplet photosensitizers and for the application of these triplet photosensitizers in photo‐organocatalysis.  相似文献

Increasing the metal-to-ligand charge transfer (MLCT) excited state lifetime of polypyridine iron(II) complexes can be achieved by lowering the ligand's π* orbital energy and by increasing the ligand field splitting. In the homo- and heteroleptic complexes [Fe(cpmp)2]2+ ( 12+ ) and [Fe(cpmp)(ddpd)]2+ ( 22+ ) with the tridentate ligands 6,2’’-carboxypyridyl-2,2’-methylamine-pyridyl-pyridine (cpmp) and N,N’-dimethyl-N,N’-di-pyridin-2-ylpyridine-2,6-diamine (ddpd) two or one dipyridyl ketone moieties provide low energy π* acceptor orbitals. A good metal-ligand orbital overlap to increase the ligand field splitting is achieved by optimizing the octahedricity through CO and NMe units between the coordinating pyridines which enable the formation of six-membered chelate rings. The push-pull ligand cpmp provides intra-ligand and ligand-to-ligand charge transfer (ILCT, LL'CT) excited states in addition to MLCT excited states. Ground and excited state properties of 12+ and 22+ were accessed by X-ray diffraction analyses, resonance Raman spectroscopy, (spectro)electrochemistry, EPR spectroscopy, X-ray emission spectroscopy, static and time-resolved IR and UV/Vis/NIR absorption spectroscopy as well as quantum chemical calculations.  相似文献

We have used polarization-resolved UV pump-mid-IR probe spectroscopy to investigate the dynamics of electron hole localization for excited-state ligand-to-metal charge-transfer (LMCT) excitation in Fe(CN)(6)(3-). The initially generated LMCT excited state has a single CN-stretch absorption band with no anisotropy. This provides strong evidence that this initial excited state preserves the octahedral symmetry of the electronic ground state by delocalizing the ligand hole in the LMCT excited state on all six cyanide ligands. This delocalized LMCT excited state decays to a second excited state with two CN-stretch absorption bands. We attribute both peaks to a single excited state because the formation time for both peaks matches the decay time for the delocalized LMCT excited state. The presence of two CN-stretch absorption bands demonstrates that this secondary excited state has lower symmetry. This observation, in conjunction with the solvent-dependent time constant for the formation of the secondary excited state, leads us to conclude that the secondary excited state corresponds to a LMCT state with a localized ligand hole.  相似文献

Visible light-harvesting C(60)-bodipy dyads were devised as universal organic triplet photosensitizers for triplet-triplet annihilation (TTA) upconversion. The antennas in the dyad were used to harvest the excitation energy, and then the singlet excited state of C(60) will be populated via the intramolecular energy transfer from the antenna to C(60) unit. In turn with the intrinsic intersystem crossing (ISC) of the C(60), the triplet excited state of the C(60) will be produced. Thus, without any heavy atoms, the triplet excited states of organic dyads are populated upon photoexcitation. Different from C(60), the dyads show strong absorption of visible light at 515 nm (C-1, ε = 70400 M(-1) cm(-1)) or 590 nm (C-2, ε = 82500 M(-1) cm(-1)). Efficient intramolecular energy transfer from the bodipy moieties to C(60) unit and localization of the triplet excited state on C(60) were confirmed by steady-state and time-resolved spectroscopy as well as DFT calculations. The dyads were used as triplet photosensitizers for TTA upconversion, and an upconversion quantum yield up to 7.0% was observed. We propose that C(60)-organic chromophore dyads can be used as a general molecular structural motif for organic triplet photosensitizers, which can be used for photocatalysis, photodynamic therapy, and TTA upconversions.  相似文献

Photoinduced intramolecular electron transfer dynamics following metal-to-ligand charge-transfer (MLCT) excitation of [Fe(CN)4(2,2′-bipyridine)]2− (1), [Fe(CN)4(2,3-bis(2-pyridyl)pyrazine)]2− (2) and [Fe(CN)4(2,2′-bipyrimidine)]2− (3) were investigated in various solvents with static and time-resolved UV-Visible absorption spectroscopy and Fe 2p3d resonant inelastic X-ray scattering (RIXS). This series of polypyridyl ligands, combined with the strong solvatochromism of the complexes, enables the 1MLCT vertical energy to be varied from 1.64 eV to 2.64 eV and the 3MLCT lifetime to range from 180 fs to 67 ps. The 3MLCT lifetimes in 1 and 2 decrease exponentially as the MLCT energy increases, consistent with electron transfer to the lowest energy triplet metal-centred (3MC) excited state, as established by the Tanabe–Sugano analysis of the Fe 2p3d RIXS data. In contrast, the 3MLCT lifetime in 3 changes non-monotonically with MLCT energy, exhibiting a maximum. This qualitatively distinct behaviour results from a competing 3MLCT → ground state (GS) electron transfer pathway that exhibits energy gap law behaviour. The 3MLCT → GS pathway involves nuclear tunnelling for the high-frequency polypyridyl breathing mode ( = 1530 cm−1), which is most displaced for complex 3, making this pathway significantly more efficient. Our study demonstrates that the excited state relaxation mechanism of Fe polypyridyl photosensitizers can be readily tuned by ligand and solvent environment. Furthermore, our study reveals that extending charge transfer lifetimes requires control of the relative energies of the 3MLCT and the 3MC states and suppression of the intramolecular distortion of the acceptor ligand in the 3MLCT excited state.

Photoinduced intramolecular electron transfer in Fe tetracyano-polypyridyl complexes was investigated with static and time-resolved UV-visible absorption and resonant inelastic X-ray scattering which revealed a competition of two relaxation pathways.  相似文献

A series of IrIII complexes, based on 1,10‐phenanthroline featuring aryl acetylene chromophores, were prepared and investigated as triplet photosensitizers. The complexes were synthesized by Sonogashira cross‐coupling reactions using a “chemistry‐on‐the‐complex” method. The absorption properties and luminescence lifetimes were successfully tuned by controlling the number and type of light‐harvesting group. Intense UV/Vis absorption was observed for the IrIII complexes with two light‐harvesting groups at the 3‐ and 8‐positions of the phenanthroline. The asymmetric IrIII complex (with a triphenylamine (TPA) and a pyrene moiety attached) exhibited the longest lifetime. Red emission was observed for all the complexes in deaerated solutions at room temperature. Their emission at low temperature (77 K) and nanosecond time‐resolved transient difference absorption spectra revealed the origin of their triplet excited states. The singlet‐oxygen (1O2) sensitization and triplet‐triplet annihilation (TTA)‐based upconversion were explored. Highly efficient TTA upconversion (ΦUC=28.1 %) and 1O2 sensitization (ΦΔ=97.0 %) were achieved for the asymmetric IrIII complex, which showed intense absorption in the visible region (λabs=482 nm, ?=50900 m ?1 cm?1) and had a long‐lived triplet excited state (53.3 μs at RT).  相似文献

A heteroleptic bis(tributylphosphine) platinum(II)‐alkynyl complex ( Pt‐1 ) showing broadband visible‐light absorption was prepared. Two different visible‐light‐absorbing ligands, that is, ethynylated boron‐dipyrromethene (BODIPY) and a functionalized naphthalene diimide (NDI) were used in the molecule. Two reference complexes, Pt‐2 and Pt‐3 , which contain only the NDI or BODIPY ligand, respectively, were also prepared. The coordinated BODIPY ligand shows absorption at 503 nm and fluorescence at 516 nm, whereas the coordinated NDI ligand absorbs at 594 nm; the spectral overlap between the two ligands ensures intramolecular resonance energy transfer in Pt‐1 , with BODIPY as the singlet energy donor and NDI as the energy acceptor. The complex shows strong absorption in the region 450 nm–640 nm, with molar absorption coefficient up to 88 000 M ?1 cm?1. Long‐lived triplet excited states lifetimes were observed for Pt‐1 – Pt‐3 (36.9 μs, 28.3 μs, and 818.6 μs, respectively). Singlet and triplet energy transfer processes were studied by the fluorescence/phosphorescence excitation spectra, steady‐state and time‐resolved UV/Vis absorption and luminescence spectra, as well as nanosecond time‐resolved transient difference absorption spectra. A triplet‐state equilibrium was observed for Pt‐1 . The complexes were used as triplet photosensitizers for triplet–triplet annihilation upconversion, with upconversion quantum yields up to 18.4 % being observed for Pt‐1 .  相似文献

Two pyridylphenols with intramolecular hydrogen bonds between the phenol and pyridine units have been synthesized, characterized crystallographically, and investigated by cyclic voltammetry and UV/Vis spectroscopy. Reductive quenching of the triplet metal‐to‐ligand charge‐transfer excited state of the [Re(CO)3(phen)(py)]+ complex (phen=1,10‐phenanthroline, py=pyridine) by the two pyridylphenols and two reference phenol molecules is investigated by steady‐state and time‐resolved luminescence spectroscopy, as well as by transient absorption spectroscopy. Stern–Volmer analysis of the luminescence quenching data provides rate constants for the bimolecular excited‐state quenching reactions. H/D kinetic isotope effects for the pyridylphenols are on the order of 2.0, and the bimolecular quenching reactions are up to 100 times faster with the pyridylphenols than with the reference phenols. This observation is attributed to the markedly less positive oxidation potentials of the pyridylphenols with respect to the reference phenols (≈0.5 V), which in turn is caused by proton coupling of the phenol oxidation process. Transient absorption spectroscopy provides unambiguous evidence for the photogeneration of phenoxyl radicals, that is, the overall photoreaction is clearly a proton‐coupled electron‐transfer process.  相似文献

A novel class of palladium(II) and platinum(II) complexes bearing tridentate bis‐aryloxide triazole ligands was prepared by using straightforward and high‐yielding synthetic routes. The complexes were fully characterized and the molecular structures of four derivatives were unambigously determined by single‐crystal X‐ray diffractometric analyses. For the most promising luminescent PtII derivatives, further experimental investigations were carried out to characterize their photophysical features and to ascertain the nature of the emitting excited state by means of electronic absorption, steady‐state, and time‐resolved emission techniques in different conditions. In degassed fluid solution the complexes displayed broad and featureless photoluminescence with λem=522–585 nm, excited‐state lifetime up to few microseconds and quantum yield (PLQY) up to 17 %, depending on the nature of both ancillary ligand and substituent on the tridentate ligand. Computational investigation using density functional theory and time‐dependent DFT were performed to gain insight into the electronic processes responsible for optical transitions and structure–photoluminescence relationship. Jointly, experimental and theoretical characterization indicated that the radiative transition arises from an excited state with admixed triplet‐manifold metal‐to‐ligand charge transfer and ligand‐centered (3MLCT/3LC) character. We elucidated the modulation of the photophysical properties upon variation of substituents for this new family of complexes.  相似文献

Bodipy derivatives containing excited state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) chromophores 2-(2-hydroxyphenyl) benzothiazole and benzoxazole (HBT and HBO) subunits were prepared (7-10). The compounds show red-shifted UV-vis absorption (530-580 nm; ε up to 50000 M(-1) cm(-1)) and emission compared to both HBT/HBO and Bodipy. The new chromophores show small Stokes shift (45 nm) and high fluorescence quantum yields (Φ(F) up to 36%), which are in stark contrast to HBT and HBO (Stokes shift up to 180 nm and Φ(F) as low as 0.6%). On the basis of steady state and time-resolved absorption spectroscopy, as well as DFT/TDDFT calculations, we propose that 7-9 do not undergo ESIPT upon photoexcitation. Interestingly, nanosecond time-resolved transient absorption spectroscopy demonstrated that Bodipy-localized triplet excited states were populated for 7-10 upon photoexcitation; the lifetimes of the triplet excited states (τ(T)) are up to 195 μs. DFT calculations confirm the transient absorptions are due to the triplet state. Different from the previous report, we demonstrated that population of the triplet excited states is not the result of ESIPT. The compounds were used as organic triplet photosensitizers for photooxidation of 1,5-dihydroxylnaphthalene. One of the compounds is more efficient than the conventional [Ir(ppy)(2)(phen)][PF(6)] triplet photosensitizer. Our result will be useful for design of new Bodipy derivatives, ESIPT compounds, and organic triplet photosensitizers, as well as for applications of these compounds in photovoltaics, photocatalysis and luminescent materials, etc.  相似文献

Indeno[1,2‐b]fluorene‐based [2,2]cyclophanes with 4n/4n and 4n/[4n+2] π‐electron systems were prepared, and their structures were identified by X‐ray crystallography. With short π–π distances around 3.0 Å, [2.2](5,11)indeno[1,2‐b]fluorenophane and its precursor [2.2](5,11)indeno[1,2‐b]fluorene‐6,12‐dionophane exhibit remarkable transannular interactions, leading to their unusual electrochemical and photophysical properties. With the aid of femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy, the transition from the monomeric excited state to the redshifted H‐type dimeric state was first observed, correlating to the calculated excitonic energy splitting and the steady‐state absorption spectra induced by charge‐transfer‐mediated superexchange interaction.  相似文献

Porphyrin and chlorin based compounds possess promising properties to be utilized as photosensitizers in photodynamic therapy (PDT). However, the photosensitizers available on the market today are not ideal for use in PDT, which has emphasized the need for new photosensitizers with improved photodynamic properties to be developed. Computational drug-design can be utilized in the search for improved pharmaceutical compounds, provided that the methods used are able to reproduce experimental data. In the present study we investigated, by the use of time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT), the performance of the long-range corrected functionals ωB97, ωB97X and ωB97XD on their ability to predict low-lying singlet excitations (>600 nm) of a set of well-known photosensitizing compounds. It was found that ωB97X reproduced the experimental red-most absorption band most satisfactorily. The use of either B3LYP, ωB97XD or M06 in geometry optimizations has a minor effect on the spectra in most cases. Calculated energy differences between the optimized singlet ground states and optimized first excited triplet states show consistent and overall higher triplet state energies for B3LYP, M06, and PBE0 compared with ωB97, ωB97X, and ωB97XD. The calculated triplet state energies are, however, sufficient to generate singlet oxygen in most cases.  相似文献

In photosensitizers, long triplet excited state lifetimes are key to their efficient electron transfer or energy transfer processes. Herein, we report a novel class of cyclic trimeric BODIPY arrays which were efficiently generated from easily accessible meso-mesityldipyrrinone and arylboronic acids in one pot. Arylboronic acid, for the first time, was used to provide a boron source for BODIPY derivatives. Due to the well-defined and orthogonally aligned BODIPY cores as verified by X-ray crystallography, these BODIPY arrays show strong exciton coupling effects and efficient intersystem crossings, and are novel heavy-atom-free photosensitizers with a long-lived triplet excited state (lifetime up to 257.5 μs) and good reactive oxygen species generation efficiency (up to 0.72) contributed by both 1O2 and O2˙ under light irradiation.

Cyclic BODIPY trimers showed strong exciton coupling in singlet excited states and long-lived triplet excited states, and generated both singlet oxygen and superoxide radicals under light irradiation, giving good reactive oxygen quantum yields and promising PDT results in vitro.  相似文献

A series of mixed-valent (MV) complexes [(FeCp)2(mu-C10H6(BPh)2)]+X ([1+]X; X=I 5, PF6, SbF6, B(C6F5)4) were prepared by oxidation of diboradiferrocene [(FeCp)2(mu-C10H6(BPh)2)] (1) with I 2, AgPF6, and AgSbF6, respectively, and through anion exchange of the I 5(-) salt with [Li(Et2O)x][B(C6F5)4] in the case of X=B(C6F5)4. The MV state of the cation was investigated in solution by multinuclear NMR spectroscopy, CV, and UV/Vis-NIR absorption spectroscopy, and in the solid state by IR spectroscopy, single-crystal X-ray crystallography, and M?ssbauer spectroscopy. The cyclic voltammogram of 1 shows two distinct redox waves with a large redox splitting of Delta E=510 mV in CH2Cl2 and the NIR spectrum for the mono-oxidized species displays an intervalence charge-transfer band at around 1500 to 1700 nm depending on the specific counterion present. The X-ray crystal structures of [1+]X show inversion-symmetric cations with X=I 5 and B(C6F5)4 and unsymmetric valence-trapped structures composed of one ferrocene and one ferrocenium moiety with X=PF6 and SbF6. M?ssbauer data for X=PF6 are consistent with valence trapping at all temperatures between 90 and 343 K. In comparison, fast electron transfer is evident on the M?ssbauer timescale for X=I 5 and temperature-dependent behavior is observed for X=B(C6F5)4. The anion dependence of the X-ray structural and M?ssbauer data is discussed in the context of crystal symmetry and the possibility of static and dynamic disorder effects is considered.  相似文献

In this study, we perform steady-state and time-resolved X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) on the iron K-edge of [Fe(tren(py)3)](PF6)2 dissolved in acetonitrile solution. Static XAS measurements on the low-spin parent compound and its high-spin analogue, [Fe(tren(6-Me-py)3)](PF6)2, reveal distinct spectroscopic signatures for the two spin states in the X-ray absorption near-edge structure (XANES) and in the X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS). For the time-resolved studies, 100 fs, 400 nm pump pulses initiate a charge-transfer transition in the low-spin complex. The subsequent electronic and geometric changes associated with the formation of the high-spin excited state are probed with 70 ps, 7.1 keV, tunable X-ray pulses derived from the Advanced Light Source (ALS). Modeling of the transient XAS data reveals that the average iron-nitrogen (Fe-N) bond is lengthened by 0.21+/-0.03 A in the high-spin excited state relative to the ground state within 70 ps. This structural modification causes a change in the metal-ligand interactions as reflected by the altered density of states of the unoccupied metal orbitals. Our results constitute the first direct measurements of the dynamic atomic and electronic structural rearrangements occurring during a photoinduced FeII spin crossover reaction in solution via picosecond X-ray absorption spectroscopy.  相似文献

Naphthalenediimide (NDI) derivatives with 2,6- or 2,3,6,7-tetrabromo or amino substituents were prepared. N,N'-dialkyl-2,6-dibromo NDI (compound 2) and N,N'-dialkyl-2,3,6,7-tetrabromo NDI (compound 4) show phosphorescence emission at 610 or 667 nm, respectively. Phosphorescence was never observed for NDI derivatives. Conversely, N,N'-dialkyl-2,6-dibromo-3,7-diamino NDI (compound 5) shows strong absorption at 526 nm and fluorescence at 551 nm, and no phosphorescence was observed. However, nanosecond time-resolved transient difference absorption spectroscopy confirmed that the triplet excited state of 5 was populated upon photoexcitation. 2,3,6,7-Tetraamino NDI (6) shows fluorescence, and no triplet excited state was populated upon excitation. The compounds were used as singlet oxygen ((1)O(2)) photosensitizers for the photooxidation of 1,5-dihydroxylnaphthalene (DHN). We found that 5 is more efficient than the conventional photosensitizer, such as Ir(ppy)(2)(bpy)[PF(6)]. The compounds were also used as organic triplet photosensitizers for triplet-triplet annihilation based upconversions. An upconversion quantum yield up to 18.5% was observed.  相似文献
