The effect of added salts (NaCl, KCl and NaBr) on the aqueous two-phase system (ATPS) formed in mixtures of Gemini(12-3-12, 2Br)/sodium dodecyl sulfate/polyethylene glycol has been investigated. Phase diagrams of the aqueous systems containing Gemini(12-3-12, 2Br), sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), polyethylene glycol(PEG) and a salt have been determined experimentally at 313.15 K. The results indicate that the addition of salts not only induces the appearance of ATPS-A (in which anionic surfactant is in excess), shortens the phase separation time, enlarges the regions of ATPS-C (in which cationic surfactant is in excess), and decreases the minimum concentration required for forming an ATPS, but also alters the matching between anionic and cationic surfactants. Extractive experiments also showed that these salts notably enhance the extraction ability of ATPS; the Gemini-rich phase exhibits prominent cohesive action with xylenol orange, regardless of whether or not it is the upper phase or the lower phase.  相似文献

Abstract

The influence of 1-hexanol on the phase behavior of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS)/cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB)/NaBr/H2O system has been systematically investigated in this paper. The results showed 1-hexanol effectively dissolved the precipitate formed by the CTAB and SDS surfactants, while liquid crystal (LC) and aqueous two phase system (ATPS) were formed in a wider range. When the molar ratio of 1-hexanol to surfactant is higher than 1, the precipitation in the system disappeared completely and was transformed into ATPS and LC, indicating that alcohol inserted at least evenly between every two surfactant molecules and hence effectively weakened the electrostatic interaction between the anionic and cationic surfactants and limited the formation of precipitation. Polarizing microscope (POM) with crossed polarizers was employed to investigate the textures of liquid crystals. It was shown that the existence of lamellar LC was confirmed by “Maltese crosses” textures. Additionally, we showed that the thermal stability of LC was promising. The ATPS and LC regions remained stable and changed slightly when the temperature was increased from 40 to 70?°C. The results indicated that ATPS and LC of the system were quiet resistant to temperature with the addition of 1-hexanol.  相似文献

The phase behavior of dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide (DTAB)/sodium dodecyl sulfonate (AS)/H2O system in the presence and in the absence of sodium phosphate has been studied. Two kinds of aqueous two‐phase systems (ATPSs) were formed, one is ATPS‐A in which anionic surfactant is in excess, the other is ATPS‐C in which cationic surfactant is in excess. For the CTAB/AS/H2O system, the addition of sodium phosphate changes the extraction phenomena of both ATPS‐A and ATPS‐C. For the DTAB/AS/H2O system, the addition of sodium phosphate changes the extraction phenomena of ATPS‐C. For ATPS‐C, the addition of trivalent PO4 3? results in a strong extraction effect of ATPS‐C to cationic water‐soluble dye methylene blue.  相似文献

The enthalpy of benzylalcohol (BzOH) solution has been determined as a function of alcohol concentration in aqueous trimethyltetradecylammonium bromide (TTAB) solutions in the presence of sodium sulfite or sodium sulfate up to high salt concentration. The electrolytes studied do not seem to induce TTAB sphere-torod transition at least up to 0.6 mol/kg of salt. Comparison with the enthalpic behavior of BzOH in sodium dodecylsulfate solutions and with that of 1-pentanol in both cationic and anionic micellar solutions suggests that the solubilization of BzOH in TTAB solutions is specifically favored by intramolecular interactions between alcohol molecules within the cationic micelles. The replacement of the bromide counterions by the sulfite or sulfate ions has been studied using potentiometry with an ionselective electrode in the case of trimethylhexadecylammonium bromide (CTAB). No difference could be detected between the effects of either divalent anions on the rate of change of the bromide ion-condensation with the salt/surfactant concentration ratioR. The degree of counter-ion condensation on micellar surface depends not only on theR values, but also on the total surfactant concentration.  相似文献

Clouding behavior of PEO-PPO-PEO and PPO-PEO-PPO block copolymers were studied in presence of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and NaCl. Extensive study of Pluronic P84 (EO19PO43EO19) with different salts and ionic surfactants, were carried out using cloud point, viscosity and dynamic light scattering (DLS) measurements. The change in cloud point, as well as the size of P84 micelles in aqueous salt solution obeys the Hofmeister lyotropic series. Results on P84-ionic surfactant mixture indicate stronger interaction in case of SDS compared to those in presence of dodecyl trimethylammonium chloride (DTAC); here interaction seems to diminish in the presence of salts.  相似文献

The influence of added salts (KCl, NaF, NaCl, NaBr, Na2SO4, Na3PO4) on aqueous cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB)/sodium dodecyl sulfonate (AS) two‐phase regions were studied. For KCl, the concentration dependence of salt effect on aqueous two‐phase regions was investigated. When brine substitutes pure water as a solvent, the positions of aqueous two‐phase regions in the phase diagram change. The results indicate that for aqueous two‐phase systems with excess anionic surfactant (ATPS‐A), the salt effect was mainly dependent on the cationic inorganic counterions, whereas for aqueous two‐phase systems with excess cationic surfactant (ATPS‐C), the salt effect was mainly dependent on the anionic inorganic counterions. The shift of aqueous two‐phase region is strengthened following the Hofmeister series. All the experiments were performed at 318.15 K.  相似文献

Aqueous solutions of ionic surfactants with strongly binding counterions exhibit wormlike or network properties. The properties of anionic micelles of sodium dodecyltrioxyethylene sulfate (AES) in the presence of multivalent counterion Al3+ were investigated by dynamic rheological methods. The steady-shear viscosity and stress, the zero-shear viscosity, the complex viscosity, and the dynamic shear modulus have been determined as a function of the surfactant and salt concentrations. Some interesting and noticeable results have been obtained, which can express the micellar growth and structure. The formation of wormlike micelles or network structure in surfactant solutions becomes much easier with increasing surfactant and salt concentrations. The Cox-Merz rule and the Cole-Cole plot are not applicable perfectly to the systems studied. The nonlinear viscoelasticity and non-Newtonian behavior can be found in all solutions according to the comparison with the simple Maxwell model. The technique of freeze-fracture transmission electron microscopy (FF-TEM) was also applied to confirm the formation of these interesting structures.  相似文献

This paper reports on studies of the rheological properties of cationic starch (CS)/ surfactant systems. The degree of substitution of the CS was 0.1 - 0.8. Surfactants investigated were sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), potassium octanoate (KOct), sodium decanoate (NaDe)potassium dodecanoate (KDod), sodium oleate (NaOl) and sodium erucate (NaEr). Aggregation of surfactant micelles with the polymer produces a hydrophobic and pseudoplastic gel-like complex phase with low water content and high viscosity. The rheological behavior of the gels is described by the Herschel-Bulkley model. In dilute aqueous solution the CS/surfactant aggregate structure resembles a randomly coiled polymer network, in which polymer molecules are linked by micelles. The rheological data for the gel are compatible with the assumption that the surfactants form liquid crystalline structures with the polymer anchored to the surfactant aggregates, as recently suggested for analogous systems. However, this conjecture needs to be corroborated by more direct determinations of the structure.  相似文献

The anionic surfactant sodium oleate (NaOA) can self-assemble in aqueous solution in the presence of counter-ion inorganic salts to form wormlike micelles (WLMs), which exhibited viscoelastic behavior. In this paper, KCl was used to induce the formation of wormlike micelles with sodium oleate. In this process, we found that the addition of N, N-dimethylethanolamine (DMEA) can destroy the structure of WLMs leading significant decrease of viscosity. However, after introducing CO2 into the ternary solution (KCl-NaOA-DMEA), the WLMs can be regenerated due to the electrostatic interaction between the protonated DMEA and the anionic surfactants. The addition of sodium hydroxide (NaOH) causes the electrostatic interaction between OA- and DMEAH+ be destroyed, which results in the wormlike micelles becoming spherical micelles of lower viscosity. The transition of WLMs with high viscosity and low viscosity spherical micelles can be repeated several times by using CO2 and NaOH.  相似文献

Viscosity measurements on aqueous micellar solutions of cationic surfactants containing phenol with and without sodium bromide were made to study the sphere‐to‐rod transitions. Effect of surfactant structure (nonpolar tail, polar head group sizes and counterion), temperature, and phenol and sodium bromide concentration on the viscosity behavior of the surfactant solution is discussed. The sphere‐to‐rod transition is usually indicated by a marked increase in viscosity. While low temperature, high surfactant concentration, presence of salt, and hydrophobic nature of surfactant all favor the formation of rod‐like micelles, the presence of phenol showed peculiar behavior. Initial additions of phenol (up to about 2.5 wt%) showed a marked increase in viscosity, independent of the nature and concentration of surfactant and temperature; lower viscosities were observed at higher phenol concentration. Conductance and sound velocity results support the viscosity results.  相似文献

Microstructure and phase behavior of decyltriethylammonium bromide (C10NE)/sodium decylsulfonate (C10SO3)/poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO)/water quaternary systems were studied by freeze‐fracture transmission electron microscopy, small angle X‐ray diffraction, and dynamic light scattering methods. Aqueous two‐phase systems (ATPS) could be prepared by properly mixing the aqueous solution of PEO and equimolar mixed C10NE and C10SO3. It was shown that the top phase of the ATPS was surfactant‐enriched and mainly composed of multi‐lamellar structure, while the bottom phase of the ATPS was polymer‐enriched in which some vesicles were observed.  相似文献

Abstract

Hydrophobic associating polyacrylamide (PDH) was prepared via aqueous dispersion polymerization in the presence of ammonium sulfate. In order to dissolve the polymer at high salt solution concentration, a hydrophobic precursor monomer with two cationic heads was synthesized. Upon polymerization, spherical PDH polymer particles were obtained with an average size of about 9.1?µm. The PDH was fully dispersed in water in twenty seconds, leading to a transparent gel. PDH demonstrated superior properties compared to the partially hydrolyzed polyacrylamide, for instance, regarding salt tolerance and shear resistance. Addition of a small amount of an anionic surfactant significantly affected the PDH dispersion viscosity due to the formation of mixed micelles. The viscosity slightly decreased after strong shearing (>500?s?1), showing excellent shear resistance. These features indicate that the synthesized PDH offers a great potential for application in hydraulic fracturing and enhanced oil recovery.  相似文献

Aggregation behavior of a novel anionic amphiphilic molecule, sodium N-(2-(n-dodecylamino)ethanoyl)-L-alaninate (C(12)Ala), was studied in the presence of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) surfactant at different [C(12)Ala]/[SDS] molar ratios and concentrations. The viscosity of aqueous SDS solution increased in the presence of C(12)Ala surfactant. The bulk viscosity of water was found to increase upon increase of both molar ratio and total surfactant concentration. The microenvironments of the self-assemblies were investigated using the fluorescence probe technique. Fluorescence anisotropy studies indicated formation of rodlike micelles. Both dynamic light scattering and small-angle neutron scattering measurements were performed to obtain the size and shape of the microstructures. The concentration and composition dependence of the hydrodynamic diameter of the aggregates were investigated. Transmission electron micrographs revealed the presence of a hexagonal liquid crystal phase in dilute solutions of the C(12)Ala-SDS mixture. The micrographs of moderately concentrated solution, however, showed cholesteric liquid-crystal structures with fingerprint-like texture. Temperature-dependent phase behavior of the self-assemblies was studied by use of the fluorescence probe technique.  相似文献

Upon the addition of a short EO chain nonionic surfactant, poly(oxyethylene) dodecyl ether (C12EOn), to dilute micellar solution of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) above a particular concentration, a sharp increase in viscosity occurs and a highly viscoelastic micellar solution is formed. The oscillatory-shear rheological behavior of the viscoselastic solutions can be described by the Maxwell model at low shear frequency and combined Maxwell-Rouse model at high shear frequency. This property is typical of wormlike micelles entangled to form a transient network. It is found that when C12EO4 in the mixed system is replaced by C12EO3 the micellar growth occurs more effectively. However, with the further decrease in EO chain length, phase separation occurs before a viscoelastic solution is formed. As a result, the maximum zero-shear viscosity is observed at an appropriate mixing fraction of surfactant in the SDS-C12EO3 system. We also investigated the micellar growth in the mixed surfactant systems by means of small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS). It was found from the SAXS data that the one-dimensional growth of micelles was obtained in all the SDS-C12EOn (n=0-4) aqueous solutions. In a short EO chain C12EOn system, the micelles grow faster at a low mixing fraction of nonionic surfactant.  相似文献

The molecular dynamics, organization, and phase state of aqueous solutions of new long-chain cationic surfactants with saturated hydrocarbon radicals (from C16 to C22) containing one or two hydroxyl groups in their polar heads are studied by the spin-probe EPR spectroscopy. In the region of micellar solutions, local mobility of surfactant molecules slightly changes with an increase in the length of hydrocarbon radical, whereas the order parameter of micelles increases notably. The addition of two hydroxyl groups to the polar part of long-chain (C 22) surfactant molecule considerably decreases local mobility and increases the ordering of micellar system compared to the micelles of analogous surfactant with one hydroxyl group. Phase transition from micellar to a solid state is observed in this system with a decrease in temperature. The addition of KCl to aqueous surfactant solution lowers the local mobility, increases the order parameter of micelles, and can cause changes in the phase state of a system. In the presence of salt, the correlation time of probe rotation and its order parameter depend on surfactant concentration. Apparently, this is explained by changes in the shape of micelles upon variations in surfactant concentration.  相似文献

The effect of a cationic monomer (N,N,N,N-trimethyl[methacryloxyethyl]ammonium methyl sulfate) on the formation, structure, and local dynamics of associates resulted from the interaction of the monomer with sodium dodecyl sulfate in aqueous solutions was studied by ESR spectroscopy. In the presence of the monomer, micelles are formed at concentrations much lower than the CMC of the pure surfactant with the monomer molecules that form a condensed layer of counterions around a micelle of sodium dodecyl sulfate. The binding of surfactant micelles with the cationic monomer causes a significant decrease in the local molecular mobility of dodecyl sulfate ions.

Dramatic differences in the structure of mixed micelles of long chain amine oxides and sodium dodecylsulfate are noted as a function of composition. In the L1 micellar pseudophase, a sphere-to-rod transition driven by ion-dipole interactions between the dissimilar headgroups leads to synergisms in aqueous solution thickening, Ross-Miles foaming, and nonpolar oil solubilization. For example, an astounding seven orders of magnitude increase in the zero shear viscosity and viscoelastic properties are observed at a single total surfactant concentration. The sphere-to-rod transition can be viewed in FT-IR by examining both the CH2 stretching for the methylene tails, and the S-O stretching modes for the sulfate headgroups.  相似文献

The behavior of mixed cationic/anionic and cationic/nonionic surfactants solutions have been studied by viscosimetry. The systems studied were sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS)/cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) and CTAB/Brij (polyoxyethylene lauryl ether, n = 10 and 23) in aqueous and sodium chloride solutions. The relative viscosity of single nonionic surfactant solutions is larger than that of SDS or CTAB solutions. It increases with the number of ethylene oxide groups. In the mixed systems, viscosity deviates from ideal behavior. The deviation results from electrostatic interactions. The surfactant mixture composition affects the self-assembled microstructure and rheology. A new mixed system that forms clear micellar solution above CMC was detected. In CTAB/Brij systems, the experimental data also deviate from ideal behavior due to mixed micelle formation and electroviscous effect. This effect is less pronounced than that of SDS/CTAB system and could be suppressed by adding an electrolyte (NaCl).  相似文献
