Continued fractions,the group GL(2, ℤ), and Pisot numbers

The properties of continued fractions, generalized golden sections, and generalized Fibonacci and Lucas numbers are proved on the ground of the properties of subsemigroups of the group of invertible integer matrices. Some properties of special recurrent sequences are studied. A new proof of the Pisot-Vijayaraghavan theorem is given. Some connections between continued fractions and Pisot numbers are considered. Some unsolved problems are stated.

Limit Theorems for Stopped Functionals of Markov Renewal Processes

Some results for stopped random walks are extended to the Markov renewal setup where the random walk is driven by a Harris recurrent Markov chain. Some interesting applications are given; for example, a generalization of the alternating renewal process.     

Bounds and perturbation bounds for the matrix exponential

Some new types of bounds and perturbation bounds, based on the Jordan normal form, for the matrix exponential are derived. These bounds are compared to known bounds, both theoretically and by numerical examples. Some recent results on the matrix exponential and the logarithmic norm are also included.
