We conduct a decision-theoretic analysis of optimal portfolio choices and, in particular, their comparative statics under two types of entropic risk measures, the coherent entropic risk measure (CERM) and the convex entropic risk measure (ERM). Starting with the portfolio selection between a risky and a risk free asset (framework of Arrow (1965) and Pratt (1964)), we find a restrictive all-or-nothing investment decision under the CERM, while the ERM yields diversification. We then address a portfolio problem with two risky assets, and provide comparative statics with respect to the investor’s risk aversion (framework of Ross (1981)). Here, both the CERM and the ERM exhibit closely interrelated inconsistencies with respect to the interpretation of their risk parameters as a measure of risk aversion: for any two investors with different risk parameters, it may happen that the investor with the higher risk parameter invests more in the riskier one of the two assets. Finally, we analyze the portfolio problem “risky vs. risk free” in the presence of an independent background risk, and analyze the effect of changes in this background risk (framework of Gollier and Pratt (1996)). Again, we find questionable predictions: under the CERM, the optimal risky investment is always increasing instead of decreasing when a background risk is introduced, while under the ERM it remains unaffected.  相似文献

We study optimal risk sharing among n agents endowed with distortion risk measures. Our model includes market frictions that can either represent linear transaction costs or risk premia charged by a clearing house for the agents. Risk sharing under third-party constraints is also considered. We obtain an explicit formula for Pareto optimal allocations. In particular, we find that a stop-loss or deductible risk sharing is optimal in the case of two agents and several common distortion functions. This extends recent result of Jouini et al. (Adv Math Econ 9:49–72, 2006) to the problem with unbounded risks and market frictions.   相似文献

We consider the problem of optimal risk sharing in a pool of cooperative agents. We analyze the asymptotic behavior of the certainty equivalents and risk premia associated with the Pareto optimal risk sharing contract as the pool expands. We first study this problem under expected utility preferences with an objectively or subjectively given probabilistic model. Next, we develop a robust approach by explicitly taking uncertainty about the probabilistic model (ambiguity) into account. The resulting robust certainty equivalents and risk premia compound risk and ambiguity aversion. We provide explicit results on their limits and rates of convergence, induced by Pareto optimal risk sharing in expanding pools.  相似文献

The paper concerns the problem how to purchase the reinsurance in order to make the insurer and the reinsurance company's total risk to be least under the expected value principle. When the insurer and reinsurance company take arbitrary risk measures, sufficient conditions for optimality of reinsurance contract are given within the restricted class of admissible contracts. Further, the explicit forms of optimal reinsurance contract under several special risk measures are given, and the method to decide parameters as well.  相似文献

Abstract

We consider insurance derivatives depending on an external physical risk process, for example, a temperature in a low dimensional climate model. We assume that this process is correlated with a tradable financial asset. We derive optimal strategies for exponential utility from terminal wealth, determine the indifference prices of the derivatives, and interpret them in terms of diversification pressure. Moreover, we check the optimal investment strategies for standard admissibility criteria. Finally, we compare the static risk connected with an insurance derivative to the reduced risk due to a dynamic investment into the correlated asset. We show that dynamic hedging reduces the risk aversion in terms of entropic risk measures by a factor related to the correlation.  相似文献

The optimal reinsurance problem is a classic topic in actuarial mathematics. Recent approaches consider a coherent or expectation bounded risk measure and minimize the global risk of the ceding company under adequate constraints. However, there is no consensus about the risk measure that the insurer must use, since every risk measure presents advantages and shortcomings when compared with others. This paper deals with a discrete probability space and analyzes the stability of the optimal reinsurance with respect to the risk measure that the insurer uses. We will demonstrate that there is a “stable optimal retention” that will show no sensitivity, insofar as it will solve the optimal reinsurance problem for many risk measures, thus providing a very robust reinsurance plan. This stable optimal retention is a stop-loss contract, and it is easy to compute in practice. A fast linear time algorithm will be given and a numerical example presented.  相似文献

This paper considers a simple supply chain with one supplier and one retailer where the supplier’s production is subject to random yield and the retailer faces uncertain demand. There exists a secondary market for acquiring or disposing products by the supplier. We study both the centralized and decentralized systems. In the decentralized system, a no risk sharing contract and a risk sharing minimum commitment contract are analyzed. The supply chain with the risk sharing contract is further analyzed with a constant secondary market price and a yield dependent secondary market price. We present both the supplier’s and the retailer’s optimal strategies and provide insights for managers when making decisions under random yield risk and demand uncertainty. We find that the secondary market generally has a positive impact on supply chain performance and the actual effect of random yield risk on the supply chain performance depends on cost parameters and supply chain contract settings. Under certain conditions, reducing yield randomness may weaken the double marginalization effect and improve the chain performance. From the numerical study, we also show that there exists an optimal commitment level for the supply chain.  相似文献

??Motivated by[1] and [2], we study in this paper the optimal (from the insurer's point of view) reinsurance problem when risk is measured by a general risk measure, namely the GlueVaR distortion risk measures which is firstly proposed by [3].Suppose an insurer is exposed to the risk and decides to buy a reinsurance contract written on the total claim amounts basis, i.e. the reinsurer covers and the cedent covers . In addition, the insurer is obligated to compensate the reinsurer for undertaking the risk by paying the reinsurance premium, ( is the safety loading), under the expectation premium principle. Based on a technique used in [2], this paper derives the optimal ceded loss functions in a class of increasing convex ceded loss functions. It turns out that the optimal ceded loss function is of stop-loss type.  相似文献

We study the close relationship between coherent risk measures and convex risk measures. Inspired by the obtained results, we propose a class of coherent risk measures induced by convex risk measures. The robust representation and minimization problem of the induced coherent risk measure are investigated. A new coherent risk measure, the Entropic Conditional Value-at-Risk (ECVaR), is proposed as a special case. We show how to apply the induced coherent risk measure to realistic portfolio selection problems. Finally, by comparing its out-of-sample performance with that of CVaR, entropic risk measure, as well as entropic value-at-risk, we carry out a series of empirical tests to demonstrate the practicality and superiority of the ECVaR measure in optimal portfolio selection.  相似文献

This paper develops an information revelation mechanism model of a one-manufacturer and one-retailer supply chain facing an outside integrated-competitor under demand uncertainty. We investigate how the manufacturer designs a wholesale price-order quantity contract to induce the retailer to report his risk sensitivity information truthfully. We try to explore the effects of the outside competitor and the risk-sharing rule on the optimal price-service level decisions of the retailer and the optimal wholesale prices of the manufacturer. We find that the strategic interaction plays an important role in the effect of risk sensitivity on the order quantity for the retailer. When the fraction of the risk cost shared by the manufacturer is sufficiently large (small), the optimal wholesale price for the high risk-averse retailer is higher (lower) than that for the low risk-averse retailer.  相似文献

We study the problem of optimal reinsurance as a means of risk management in the regulatory framework of Solvency II under Conditional Value-at-Risk and, as its natural extension, spectral risk measures. First, we show that stop-loss reinsurance is optimal under both Conditional Value-at-Risk and spectral risk measures. Spectral risk measures thus constitute a more general class of suitable regulatory risk measures than specific Conditional Value-at-Risk. At the same time, the established type of stop-loss reinsurance can be maintained as the optimal risk management strategy that minimizes regulatory capital. Second, we derive the optimal deductibles for stop-loss reinsurance. We show that under Conditional Value-at-Risk, the optimal deductible tends towards restrictive and counter-intuitive corner solutions or “plunging”, which is a serious objection against its use in regulatory risk management. By means of the broader class of spectral risk measures, we are able to overcome this shortcoming as optimal deductibles are now interior solutions. Especially, the recently discussed power spectral risk measures and the Wang risk measure are shown to avoid any plunging. They yield a one-to-one correspondence between the risk parameter and the optimal deductible and, thus, provide economically plausible risk management strategies.  相似文献

To exercise better control on the lower tail of the loss distribution and to easily describe the investor's risk attitude, a new class of coherent risk measures is proposed in this paper by taking the minimization of p‐norms of lower losses with respect to some reference point. We demonstrate that the new risk measure has satisfactory mathematical properties such as convexity, continuity with respect to parameters included in its definition, the relations between two new risk measures are also examined. The application of the new risk measures for optimal portfolio selection is illustrated by using trade data from the Chinese stock markets. Empirical results not only support our theoretical conclusions, but also show the practicability of the portfolio selection model with our new risk measures. Motivated by situations in which independent agents wish to cooperate in some uncertain endeavor over time, we study dynamic linear programming games, which generalize classical linear production games to multi-period settings under uncertainty. We specifically consider that players may have risk-averse attitudes towards uncertainty, and model this risk aversion using coherent conditional risk measures. For this setting, we study the strong sequential core, a natural extension of the core to dynamic settings. We characterize the strong sequential core as the set of allocations that satisfy a particular finite set of inequalities that depend on an auxiliary optimization model, and then leverage this characterization to establish sufficient conditions for emptiness and non-emptiness. Qualitatively, whereas the strong sequential core is always non-empty when players are risk-neutral, our results indicate that cooperation in the presence of risk aversion is much more difficult. We illustrate this with an application to cooperative newsvendor games, where we find that cooperation is possible when it least benefits players, and may be impossible when it offers more benefit.  相似文献

In this article, we provide an estimation and several asymptotic behaviors for the coherent entropic risk measure of compound Poisson process. We also establish an estimation for the coherent entropic risk measure of sum of i.i.d. random variables in virtue of Log-Sobolev inequality. As an application, we provide two deviation estimations of the tail probability for compound Poisson process. Finally, several simulation results are given to support our results.  相似文献

The idea of efficient hedging has been introduced by Föllmer and Leukert. They defined the shortfall risk as the expectation of the shortfall weighted by a loss function, and looked for strategies that minimize the shortfall risk under a capital constraint. In this paper, to measure the shortfall risk, we use the coherent risk measures introduced by Artzner, Delbaen, Eber and Heath. We show that, for a given contingent claim H, the optimal strategy consists in hedging a modified claim ?H for some randomized test ?. This is an analogue of the results by Föllmer and Leukert.

In this paper, we extend the concept of tail subadditivity (Belles-Sampera et al., 2014a; Belles-Sampera et al., 2014b) for distortion risk measures and give sufficient and necessary conditions for a distortion risk measure to be tail subadditive. We also introduce the generalized GlueVaR risk measures, which can be used to approach any coherent distortion risk measure. To further illustrate the applications of the tail subadditivity, we propose multivariate tail distortion (MTD) risk measures and generalize the multivariate tail conditional expectation (MTCE) risk measure introduced by Landsman et al. (2016). The properties of multivariate tail distortion risk measures, such as positive homogeneity, translation invariance, monotonicity, and subadditivity, are discussed as well. Moreover, we discuss the applications of the multivariate tail distortion risk measures in capital allocations for a portfolio of risks and explore the impacts of the dependence between risks in a portfolio and extreme tail events of a risk portfolio in capital allocations.  相似文献

The existence of risky choices makes the study of attitudes toward risk important. In this article we ask the following questions: Do risk‐neutral preferences maximize utility? Are there other measures of social welfare that can explain risk aversion in society? What effect does evolution have on the distribution of risk attitudes and the measures of social welfare? In a static environment risk‐neutral risk attitudes maximize utilitarian measures of social welfare, and risk‐averse attitudes maximize Rawlsian measures. In a dynamic system agents will tend toward risk, preferring greater affinity for risk when they can accumulate wealth. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Complexity 9: 25–30, 2004  相似文献
