A novel polymer matrix containing amino–nitro substituted azobenzene groups was obtained by frontal polymerization. (E)‐2‐(Ethyl(4‐((4‐nitrophenyl)diazenyl)phenyl)amino)ethyl methacrylate (MDR‐1) was copolymerized with poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate (PEGDA) using this easy and fast polymerization technique. The effect of the amount of the incorporated azo‐monomer into the polymer matrix was studied in detail and correlated to front velocity, maximum temperature, initiator concentration, and monomer conversion. The obtained materials were characterized by infrared spectroscopy (Fourier transform infrared), and their thermal properties were studied by thermogravimetric analysis and differential scanning calorimetry. Moreover, the optical properties of the polymers were studied by absorption spectroscopy in the UV–Vis region. Absorption spectra of the copolymers exhibit a significant blue shift of the absorption bands with respect to the azo‐monomer, due to the presence of H‐aggregates. Cubic nonlinear optical (NLO) characterizations of the PEGDA/MDR‐1 copolymers were performed according to the Z‐Scan technique. It has been proven that samples with higher MDR‐1 content (0.75 mol %) exhibited outstandingly high NLO‐activity with negative NLO‐refractive coefficients in the promising range of n2 = ?8.057 × 10?4 esu. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. 2‐Phenoxyethyl acrylate (2‐PEA) was polymerized alone and in the presence of an azobenzene comonomer derived from Disperse Red‐1, N‐ethyl‐N‐(2‐hydroxyethyl)‐4‐(4‐nitrophenylazo)aniline (MDR‐1), by using the frontal polymerization technique. Two novel ionic liquids, recently synthesized by us, were used as initiators: tetrabutylphosphonium persulfate (TBPPS) and trihexyltetradecylphosphonium persulfate (TETDPPS). Even if their concentrations were smaller than those found when benzoyl peroxide and terbutylperoxy neodecanoate were used, these compounds gave rise to stable propagating polymerization fronts characterized by relatively low maximum temperatures and good velocities. Moreover, at variance to these latter, TBPPS and TETDPPS prevent bubble formation, thus allowing the use of the obtained materials in optical applications. The obtained polymers were characterized by infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), their thermal properties were determined by differential scanning calorimetry, and their optical properties were studied by absorption spectroscopy in the UV–vis region. Finally, the nonlinear optical (NLO) properties of the 2‐PEA/MDR‐1 copolymers obtained with TBPPS and TETDPPS were performed according to the Z‐Scan technique with prepared film samples. It has been proven that samples with higher MDR‐1 content (0.05 mol %) exhibited outstanding cubic NLO activity with negative NLO refractive coefficients around n2 = ?1.7 × 10?3 esu. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The copolymerization of N‐phenyl maleimide and p‐chloromethyl styrene via reversible addition–fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) process with AIBN as initiator and 2‐(ethoxycarbonyl)prop‐2‐yl dithiobenzoate as RAFT agent produced copolymers with alternating structure, controlled molecular weights, and narrow molecular weight distributions. Using poly(N‐phenyl maleimide‐altp‐chloromethyl styrene) as the macroinitiator for atom transfer radical polymerization of styrene in the presence of CuCl/2,2′‐bipyridine, well‐defined comb‐like polymers with one graft chain for every two monomer units of backbone polymer were obtained. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly(p‐nitrophenyl acrylate)s (PNPAs) with different molecular mass and narrow polydispersity were successfully synthesized for the first time by reversible addition–fragmentation transfer (RAFT) polymerization with azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) as an initiator and [1‐(ethoxy carbonyl) prop‐1‐yl dithiobenzoate] as the chain‐transfer agent. Although the molecular mass of PNPAs can be controlled by the molar ratio of NPA to RAFT agent and the conversion, a trace of homo‐PNPA was found, especially at the early stage of polymerization. The dithiobenzoyl‐terminated PNPA obtained was used as a macro chain‐transfer agent in the successive RAFT block copolymerization of styrene (St) with AIBN as the initiator. After purification by two washings with cyclohexane and nitromethane to remove homo‐PSt and homo‐PNPA, the pure diblock copolymers, PNPA‐b‐PSt's, with narrow molecular weight distribution were obtained. The structural analysis of polymerization products by 1H NMR and GPC verified the formation of diblock copolymers. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A thermal stable aromatic polyimide (PI) with side‐chain second‐order nonlinear optical (NLO) chromophores has been developed. The PI was prepared by the ring‐opening polyaddition of 4,4′‐(hexafluoroisopropylidene)diphthalic anhydride with a new diamine having two N‐ethyl‐N‐[4‐[(6‐chlorobenzothiazol‐2‐yl)diazenyl]phenyl]‐2‐aminoethanol units as the NLO chromophore, followed by poling during or after the thermal imidization process. The resulting PI had number and weight‐average molecular weights (Mn, Mw) of 25,000 and 80,000, respectively, and a relatively high glass transition temperature of 180°C. The second harmonic coefficient (d33) of PI at the wavelength of 1.064 μm was 138 pm/V (329.6 × 10−9 esu) and remained unchanged at elevated temperatures. The corona poling process of the NLO‐substituted poly(amic acid) to the PI was also studied in detail by measuring the second harmonic generation (SHG) from the polymer films. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. 4μ‐A2B2 star‐shaped copolymers contained polystyrene (PS), poly(isoprene) (PI), poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) or poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL) arms were synthesized by a combination of Glaser coupling with living anionic polymerization (LAP) and ring‐opening polymerization (ROP). Firstly, the functionalized PS or PI with an alkyne group and a protected hydroxyl group at the same end were synthesized by LAP and then modified by propargyl bromide. Subsequently, the macro‐initiator PS or PI with two active hydroxyl groups at the junction point were synthesized by Glaser coupling in the presence of pyridine/CuBr/N,N,N ′,N ″,N ″‐penta‐methyl diethylenetri‐amine (PMDETA) system and followed by hydrolysis of protected hydroxyl groups. Finally, the ROP of EO and ε‐CL monomers was carried out using diphenylmethyl potassium (DPMK) and tin(II)‐bis(2‐ethylhexanoate) (Sn(Oct)2) as catalyst for target star‐shaped copolymers, respectively. These copolymers and their intermediates were well characterized by SEC, 1H NMR, MALDI‐TOF mass spectra and FT‐IR in details. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Well‐defined azobenzene‐containing side‐chain liquid crystalline diblock copolymers composed of poly[6‐(4‐methoxy‐azobenzene‐4′‐oxy) hexyl methacrylate] (PMMAZO) and poly(γ‐benzyl‐L ‐glutamate) (PBLG) were synthesized by click reaction from alkyne‐ and azide‐functionalized homopolymers. The alkyne‐terminated PMMAZO homopolymers were synthesized by copper‐mediated atom transfer radical polymerization with a bromine‐containing alkyne bifunctional initiator, and the azido‐terminated PBLG homopolymers were synthesized by ring‐opening polymerization of γ‐benzyl‐L ‐glutamate‐N‐carboxyanhydride in DMF at room temperature using an amine‐containing azide initiator. The thermotropic phase behavior of PMMAZO‐b‐PBLG diblock copolymers in bulk were investigated using differential scanning calorimetry and polarized light microscopy. The PMMAZO‐b‐PBLG diblock copolymers exhibited a smectic phase and a nematic phase when the weight fraction of PMMAZO block was more than 50%. Photoisomerization behavior of PMMAZO‐b‐PBLG diblock copolymers and the corresponding PMMAZO homopolymers in solid film and in solution were investigated using UV–vis. In solution, trans–cis isomerization of diblock copolymers was slower than that of the corresponding PMMAZO homopolymers. These results may provide guidelines for the design of effective photoresponsive anisotropic materials. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2013  相似文献

The controlled/living radical polymerization of 2‐(N‐carbazolyl)ethyl methacrylate (CzEMA) and 4‐(5‐(4‐tert‐butylphenyl‐1,3,4‐oxadiazol‐2‐yl)phenyl) methacrylate (t‐Bu‐OxaMA) via reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer polymerization has been studied. Functional polymers with hole‐ or electron‐transfer ability were synthesized with cumyl dithiobenzoate as a chain transfer agent (CTA) and AIBN as an initiator in a benzene solution. Good control of the polymerization was confirmed by the linear increase in the molecular weight (MW) with the conversion. The dependence of MW and polydispersity index (PDI) of the resulting polymers on the molar ratio of monomer to CTA, monomer concentration, and molar ratio of CTA to initiator has also been investigated. The MW and PDI of the resulting polymers were well controlled as being revealed by GPC measurements. The resulting polymers were further characterized by NMR, UV‐vis spectroscopy, and cyclic voltammetry. The polymers functionalized with carbazole group or 1,3,4‐oxadiazole group exhibited good thermal stability, with an onset decomposition temperature of about 305 and 323 °C, respectively, as determined by thermogravimetric analysis. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A 1,3‐benzodioxole derivative of naphthodioxinone, namely 2‐(benzo[d][1,3]dioxol‐5‐yl)‐9‐hydroxy‐2‐phenyl‐4H‐naphtho[2,3‐d][1,3]dioxin‐4‐one was synthesized and characterized. Its capability to act as caged one‐component Type II photoinitiator for free radical polymerization was examined. Upon irradiation, this photoinitiator releases 5‐benzoyl‐1,3‐benzodioxole possessing both benzophenone and 1,3‐dioxole groups in the structure as light absorbing and hydrogen donating sites, respectively. Subsequent photoexcitation of the benzophenone chromophore followed by hydrogen abstraction generates radicals capable of initiating free radical polymerization of appropriate monomers. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. An asymmetric difunctional initiator 2‐phenyl‐2‐[(2,2,6,6 tetramethylpiperidino)oxy] ethyl 2‐bromo propanoate ( 1 ) was used for the synthesis of ABC‐type methyl methacrylate (MMA)‐tert‐butylacrylate (tBA)‐styrene (St) triblock copolymers via a combination of atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) and stable free‐radical polymerization (SFRP). The ATRP‐ATRP‐SFRP or SFRP‐ATRP‐ATRP route led to ABC‐type triblock copolymers with controlled molecular weight and moderate polydispersity (Mw/Mn < 1.35). The block copolymers were characterized by gel permeation chromatography and 1H NMR. The retaining chain‐end functionality and the applying halide exchange afforded high blocking efficiency as well as maintained control over entire routes. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The synthesis of polypeptide‐containing block copolymers combining N‐carboxyanhydride (NCA) ring‐opening polymerization and atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) was investigated. An amide initiator comprising an amine function for the NCA polymerization and an activated bromide for ATRP was used. Well‐defined polypeptide macroinitiators were obtained from γ‐benzyl‐L ‐glutamate NCA, O‐benzyl‐serine NCA, and N‐benzyloxy‐L ‐lysine. Subsequent ATRP macroinitiation from the polypeptides resulted in higher than expected molecular weights. Analysis of the reaction products and model reactions confirmed that this is due to the high frequency of termination reactions by disproportionation in the initial phase of the ATRP, which is inherent in the amide initiator structure. In some cases selective precipitation could be applied to remove unreacted macroinitiator to yield well‐defined block copolymers. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Polysulfone‐g‐poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PSf‐g‐PNIPAAm) graft copolymers were prepared from atom transfer radical polymerization of NIPAAm using chloromethylated PSf as a macro‐initiator. The chain lengths of PNIPAAm of the graft copolymers were controllable with polymerization reaction time. The chemical structures of the graft copolymers were characterized with FTIR, NMR, and elemental analysis and their amphiphilic characteristics were examined and discussed. The PSf‐g‐PNIPAAm graft copolymers and the nanoparticles made from the graft copolymers exhibited repeatable temperature‐responsive properties in heating–cooling cycles. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of well‐defined amphiphilic triblock copolymers, poly(ethylene glycol)‐b‐poly(tert‐butyl acrylate)‐b‐poly(2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate) (PEG‐b‐PtBA‐b‐PHEMA), were synthesized via successive atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). ATRP of tBA was first initiated by PEG‐Br macroinitiator using CuBr/N,N,N′,N″,N′″‐pentamethyldiethylenetriamine as catalytic system to give PEG‐b‐PtBA diblock copolymer. This copolymer was then used as macroinitiator to initiate ATRP of HEMA, which afforded the target triblock copolymer, PEG‐b‐PtBA‐b‐PHEMA. The critical micelle concentrations of obtained amphiphilic triblock copolymers were determined by fluorescence spectroscopy using N‐phenyl‐1‐naphthylamine as probe. The morphology and size of formed aggregates were investigated by transmission electron microscopy and dynamic light scattering, respectively. Finally, an acid‐sensitive PEG‐b‐PtBA‐b‐P(HEMA‐CAD) prodrug via cis‐aconityl linkage between doxorubicin and hydroxyls of triblock copolymers with a high drug loading content up to 38%, was prepared to preliminarily explore the application of triblock copolymer in drug delivery. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The polymers poly[(2,2‐dimethyl‐1,3‐dioxolane‐4yl) methyl acrylate] (PDMDMA) and four‐armed PDMDMA with well‐defined structures were prepared by the polymerization of (2,2‐dimethyl‐1,3‐dioxolane‐4yl) methyl acrylate (DMDMA) in the presence of an atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) initiator system. The successive hydrolyses of the polymers obtained produced the corresponding water‐soluble polymers poly(2,3‐dihydroxypropyl acrylate) (PDHPA) and four‐armed PDHPA. The controllable features for the ATRP of DMDMA were studied with kinetic measurements, gel permeation chromatography (GPC), and NMR data. With the macroinitiators PDMDMA–Br and four‐armed PDMDMA–Br in combination with CuBr and 2,2′‐bipyridine, the block polymerizations of methyl acrylate (MA) with PDMDMA were carried out to afford the AB diblock copolymer PDMDMA‐b‐MA and the four‐armed block copolymer S{poly[(2,2‐dimethyl‐1,3‐dioxolane‐4yl) methyl acrylate]‐block‐poly(methyl acrylate)}4, respectively. The block copolymers were hydrolyzed in an acidic aqueous solution, and the amphiphilic diblock and four‐armed block copolymers poly(2,3‐dihydroxypropyl acrylate)‐block‐poly(methyl acrylate) were prepared successfully. The structures of these block copolymers were verified with NMR and GPC measurements. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 39: 3062–3072, 2001  相似文献

Amphiphilic, biocompatible poly(N‐vinylpyrrolidone)‐b‐poly(l ‐lactide) (PVP‐b‐PLLA) block polymers were synthesized at 60 °C using a hydroxyl‐functionalized N,N‐diphenyldithiocarbamate reversible addition–fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) agent, 2‐hydroxyethyl 2‐(N,N‐diphenylcarbamothioylthio)propanoate (HDPCP), as a dual initiator for RAFT polymerization and ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) in a one‐step procedure. 4‐Dimethylamino pyridine was used as the ROP catalyst for l ‐lactide. The two polymerization reactions proceeded in a controlled manner, but their polymerization rates were affected by the other polymerization process. This one‐step procedure is believed to be the most convenient method for synthesizing PVP‐b‐PLLA block copolymers. HDPCP can also be used for the one‐step synthesis of poly(N‐vinylcarbazole)‐b‐PLLA block copolymers. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. Chem. 2014 , 52, 1607–1613  相似文献

A series of N‐aryl‐N′‐pyridyl ureas were synthesized by the reactions of 4‐aminopyridine (4AP) with the corresponding isocyanates such as phenyl isocyanate, 4‐methylphenyl isocyanate, 4‐methoxyphenyl isocyanate, 4chlorophenyl isocyanate, 4‐(trifluoromethyl)phenyl isocyanate, and 4‐nitrophenyl isocyanate. Bulk polymerization of diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA) in the presence of the ureas as initiators was evaluated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) at a heating rate of 10 °C/min. The resulting DSC profiles indicated exothermic peaks above 140 °C, while the DSC profile measured for a formulation composed of DGEBA and pristine 4AP indicated an exothermic peak at around 120 °C, implying that the derivation of 4AP into the corresponding ureas is a useful strategy to achieve thermal latency. The peak top temperatures were correlated with the electron density of the aromatic ring of the ureas, that is, as the electron‐withdrawing nature of the substituent on the aromatic ring became larger, the peak increases. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We report on the synthesis of a thermosensitive polymer brush‐supported 4‐N,N‐dialkylaminopyridine catalyst and the comparison of its catalytic activity with the corresponding linear polymer‐supported version in the hydrolysis of p‐nitrophenyl acetate (NPA) as well as the effect of lower critical solution temperature (LCST) transition on catalytic activity. The polymer brushes were synthesized from initiator‐functionalized silica particles by surface‐initiated atom transfer radical polymerization of methoxytri(ethylene glycol) methacrylate and 2‐(N‐methyl‐N‐(4‐pyridyl)amino)ethyl methacrylate in the presence of a free initiator. Dynamic light scattering studies showed that the onset temperatures of the LCST transition of polymer brushes in pH 7.52 and 7.82 buffers were 42 and 38 °C, respectively. Under the same reaction conditions, the net initial rate of the hydrolysis of NPA catalyzed by hairy particles was 70–80% of that catalyzed by the free copolymer at the temperature below the LCST of polymer brushes. With further increasing the temperature above the LCST, the plot of logarithm of net initial rate versus inverse temperature exhibited a shift for the reactions catalyzed by hairy particles and leveled off or decreased slightly in the case of using the free copolymer as catalyst, presumably because the structures of the aggregates of hairy particles and free copolymer chains were different. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Tetrakis bromomethyl benzene was used as a tetrafunctional initiator in the synthesis of four‐armed star polymers of methyl methacrylate via atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) with a CuBr/2,2 bipyridine catalytic system and benzene as a solvent. Relatively low polydispersities were achieved, and the experimental molecular weights were in agreement with the theoretical ones. A combination of 2,2,6,6‐tetramethyl piperidine‐N‐oxyl‐mediated free‐radical polymerization and ATRP was used to synthesize various graft copolymers with polystyrene backbones and poly(t‐butyl methacrylate) grafts. In this case, the backbone was produced with a 2,2,6,6‐tetramethyl piperidine‐N‐oxyl‐mediated stable free‐radical polymerization process from the copolymerization of styrene and p‐(chloromethyl) styrene. This polychloromethylated polymer was used as an ATRP multifunctional initiator for t‐butyl methacrylate polymerization, giving the desired graft copolymers. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. The anionic polymerization of N‐acryloyl‐N′‐(4‐methylbenzoyl)urea (1) was carried out at 80°C for 24 h in DMF, DMSO, acetonitrile, or toluene by t‐BuOK or DBU (3 mol %) as an initiator to obtain polymer 3 in a good yield. The structure of 3 was dependent upon the initiator used, in which t‐BuOK selectively conducted the hydrogen‐transfer polymerization, while DBU partially induced the vinyl polymerization (16–20%). Likewise, N‐acryloyl‐N‐methyl‐N′‐(4‐methylbenzoyl)urea (2, i.e., an N‐methylated derivative of 1) was subjected to the hydrogen‐transfer polymerization. Although the yield of the polymer was lower in comparison with 1, the structure of the obtained polymer 4 was similarly governed by the initiator. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. The polymerization of MMA, at ambient temperature, mediated by dansyl chloride is investigated using controlled radical polymerization methods. The solution ATRP results in reasonably controlled polymerization with PDI < 1.3. The SET‐LRP polymerization is less controlled while SET‐RAFT polymerization is controlled producing poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) with the PDI < 1.3. In all the cases, the polymerization rate followed first order kinetics with respect to monomer conversion and the molecular weight of the polymer increased linearly with conversion. The R group in the CTAs do not appear to play a key role in controlling the propagation rate. SET‐RAFT method appears to be a simpler tool to produce methacrylate polymers, under ambient conditions, in comparison with ATRP and SET‐LRP. Fluorescent diblock copolymers, P(MMA‐b‐PhMA), were synthesized. These were highly fluorescent with two distinguishable emission signatures from the dansyl group and the phenanthren‐1‐yl methacrylate block. The fluorescence emission spectra reveal interesting features such as large red shift when compared to the small molecule. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
