A new approach to searching for and studying scission neutrons, which is based on the analysis of specific angular correlations in nuclear fission induced by polarized neutrons, is described and used to evaluate the fraction of scission neutrons in the total number of prompt neutrons of 235U fission emitted perpendicularly to the fission axis.  相似文献

Inclusive energy spectra and the energy dependence of the asymmetry parameter have been measured for neutrons emitted after muon capture in O, Si, Ca and Pb. In addition a neutron-neutron coincidence measurement has been performed for Ca. The results of these measurements confirm the exponential shape of the energy spectra and the positive asymmetry observed by Sundelin and Edelstein. The observation of neutrons with energies above 50 MeV and the observation of simultaneous emission of two high-energy neutrons suggest the importance of short-range nucleonnucleon correlations in this process.  相似文献

An experiment devoted to studying neutron–neutron angular correlations in the slow-neutroninduced fission of 233U, 235U and 239Pu nuclei was performed. The experimentally determined angular dependence of the number of neutron–neutron coincidences was compared with the results of a Monte Carlo simulation for various values of the neutron-detection threshold in the range between 490 and 2080 keV. It was found that the experimental angular distributions in question can be described well under the assumption that 2% to 5% of all prompt fission neutrons are emitted isotropically in the laboratory frame. Probably, such neutrons can be interpreted as so-called scission neutrons directly associated with the nuclear-rupture instant. Energy distributions of this component were also obtained from the present analysis.  相似文献

Conditions for the appearance and observation of prescission gamma rays emitted by a fissioning nucleus prior to its separation into fission fragments were investigated within quantum-mechanical fission theory. It is shown that these conditions are realizable in the gamma decay of isovector electric giant dipole resonances in a fissile nucleus that are excited because of nonadiabaticity of the collective deformation motion of the nucleus at the ultimate stages of its prefission evolution. Angular and energy distributions of prescission gamma rays emitted by unpolarized fissioning nuclei are analyzed. Features of T-odd correlations in angular distributions of gamma rays arising in the fission of unpolarized target nuclei that is induced by polarized cold neutrons are investigated, and it is shown that these correlations are similar in nature to T-odd ROT correlations discovered earlier for alpha particles emitted in the ternary fission of nuclei.  相似文献

Proton-neutron angular correlations in the 12C, 51V and 118Sn(d, pn) reactions have been measured at 56 MeV to investigate the deuteron breakup process. The elastic breakup which leaves the target nucleus in its ground state dominates the coincident spectra. The elastic breakup cross sections are estimated to be 36–48% of the inclusive breakup yields at 15° or 17.5°. In the angular correlations the protons are emitted predominantly on the side of the beam opposite to the neutrons. The experimental data have been analyzed using the prior-form DWBA. For both nuclear and Coulomb breakup, sufficient convergence of the calculations is obtained by including the pn angular momenta up to l = 2. For the nuclear breakup calculations, the l = 0 and 2 contributions dominate the cross sections. For the Coulomb breakup the l = 1 contribution is predominant. In the calculations the effect of the Coulomb breakup is seen at forward angles of the angular correlation. The DWBA calculations reproduce fairly well the coincident energy spectra and the angular correlations in the angular region where the protons are emitted on the side of the beam opposite to the neutrons. On the other hand the calculations overestimate the break-up cross sections by a factor of 2 to 10 in the angular region where the protons are emitted on the same side of the beam as the neutrons. The distributions of deuteron c.m. angular momenta that contribute to the breakup amplitude are examined to obtain information on the region of space in which the breakup reactions takes place.  相似文献

The mechanisms and the features of the main types of nuclear ternary fission (that is, true ternary fission, in which a third particle is emitted before the rupture of the fissioning nucleus into fragments, and delayed ternary fission, in which a third particle is emitted from fission fragments going apart) are investigated within quantum-mechanical fission theory. The features of T-odd asymmetry in true ternary nuclear fission induced by cold polarized neutrons are investigated for the cases where alpha particles, prescission neutrons, and photons appear as third particles emitted by fissioning nuclei, the Coriolis interaction of the spin of the polarized fissioning nucleus with the spin of the third particle and the interference between the fission amplitudes for neutron resonances excited in the fissioning nucleus in the case of projectile-neutron capture being taken into account. For the cases where third particles emitted by fission fragments are evaporated neutrons or photons, T-odd asymmetries in delayed ternary nuclear fission induced by cold polarized neutrons are analyzed with allowance for the mechanism of pumping of large fission-fragment spins oriented orthogonally to the fragment-emission direction and with allowance for the interference between the fission amplitudes for neutron resonances.  相似文献

It is suggested that neutron emission from highly excited nuclei follows a Poisson random process. The continuous variable of the process is the excitation energy excess over the binding energy of the emitted neutrons and the discrete variable is the number of emitted neutrons. Cross sections for (HI, x n) reactions are analyzed using a formula containing a Poisson distribution function. The post- and pre-equilibrium components of the cross section are treated separately. The agreement between the predictions of this formula and the experimental results is very good.  相似文献

Since P-odd and T-odd asymmetries are generally not observed during the fissioning of unoriented target nuclei by polarized neutrons and oriented target nuclei by unpolarized neutrons, analogous asymmetries in angular distributions of products from binary and ternary fissioning of oriented target nuclei by cold polarized neutrons are thoroughly analyzed within the quantum theory of fission for finding these correlations. It is demonstrated that these correlations occur only when interference of the compound fissioning nucleus states with different spins is considered. Contributions from target nucleus orientations of different orders to coefficients of the asymmetries in question for fission fragments are estimated. Characteristics of analogous asymmetries for prescission and evaporation third particles are analyzed.  相似文献

Results of two different experiments for the study of fission of 252Cf (sf) events in coincidence with neutrons are reported. Two time-of-flight-energy (TOF-E detectors systems have been used. The fission fragment masses were obtained in a double arm coincidence set-up, where the missing mass in the binary decay is used to characterise ternary fission as a collinear cluster tri-partition (CCT). The 3He filled neutron counters have been arranged so as to detect principally neutrons emitted from an isotropic source in the laboratory frame. The fission events connected to the larger experimental neutron multiplicities show a wide range in the missing-mass spectrum, down to $ \alpha$ -particles, carbon and oxygen isotopes. These are linked with magic nuclei in the binary mass-mass correlations of the fission fragments. These neutron gated data are virtually free from background events from scattered binary fission fragments. The ungated spectra are compared to those of the previous data from our previous article (Eur. Phys. J. A. 45, 29 (2010)), the observed structures agree well with the manifestations of the collinear cluster tri-partition of 252Cf (sf) observed earlier. Several new families of the CCT modes are observed.  相似文献

Azimuthal correlations in angles between various types of charged secondary particles from inelastic interactions of relativistic56Fe nuclei with the nuclei of nuclear emulsions have been investigated. It is observed that all types of charged secondaries produced are emitted asymmetrically in the azimuthal plane. The degree of azimuthal asymmetry increases with the decrease of impact parameter. We have also observed that particles belonging to different kinematical regions of the nucleus-nucleus interaction (intergroup correlation) have a tendency to be emitted to the opposite sides in the azimuthal plane.  相似文献

Water enriched to 97% in O18 and liquid nitrogen were irradiated with 30,5 MeV bremsstrahlung. The energy distribution of emitted neutrons between 2,5 MeV and 20 MeV was measured via the recoil protons in a stilbene scintillator. The energy spectrum of photoneutrons from N14 shows maxima at 3,0, 6,5 and 11 MeV, whereas that of neutrons from O18 contains only indication of structure. For both nuclei emission of neutrons seems to proceed mainly through transitions into excited levels of the final nuclei.  相似文献

Mica detectors together with thick uranium foils were used for detection and angular distribution measurement of the neutrons emitted from the d-plasma focus (DPF). The distance between detectors and plasma pinch was 4 cm. For reason of detector protection from the thermal shock, they were covered with the mica layer of 1 mm thickness. Annealing of the detectors were measured after the irradiation with neutrons from an Am---Be source and treated with thermal shock H-plasma focus (HPF). An experiment has been carried out to study neutron-neutron angular correlations in spontaneous fission of 252Cf. Angular dependences of the number of neutron-neutron coincidences obtained in the experiment were compared with the results of the Monte Carlo calculations for various neutron detection thresholds in the range 425–1600 keV. It was inferred that 10–11% of the total number of prompt neutrons from 252Cf (s.f.) in the laboratory system were emitted isotropically and may probably be interpreted as neutrons directly associated with the instant of scission of the nucleus. The analysis allowed their energy distribution to be determined as well. A similar method was also used to describe the angular correlation of prompt neutrons that accompanied the reaction 235U(n th ,f).  相似文献

We adopt the coherence and built-in swap mechanism in sequential superradiance as a tool for obtaining continuous-variable (electric/magnetic fields) quantum entanglement of two counter-propagating pulses emitted from the two end-fire modes. In the first-sequence, end-fire modes are entangled with the side modes. In the second sequence, this entanglement is swapped to in between the two opposite end-fire modes. Additionally, we also examine the photon number correlations. No quantum correlations is observed in this variable.  相似文献

We report preliminary results of measuring the T-odd left-right asymmetry of prompt neutron emission in binary fission of the 233U and 239Pu nuclei by slow polarized neutrons. Assuming that about 35% of prompt neutrons are emitted from the “neck,” one can conclude that the emission asymmetry of scission neutrons in 233U is an order of magnitude lower than the asymmetry of α-particle emission in ternary fission.  相似文献
