Contaminant transport in the upper layers of soil during the multiple cycles of short infiltration and prolonged redistribution is investigated. Analytical solutions for the two typical problems encountered in agricultural engineering are derived. The first problem considers the penetration of fertilizer initially applied at the soil surface. The second one is the propagation of contaminant injected with the applied water. Explicit analytical expressions for the solute concentration are obtained under assumptions of one-dimensional gravitational flow and advective solute transport under equilibrium conditions. The properties of the solute penetration are analyzed for the case of contaminant initially applied at the soil surface and picked up by the water flow during ten infiltration–redistribution cycles. This paper concerns the regularity of a capillary graph (the meniscus profile of liquid in a cylindrical tube) over a corner domain of angle α. By giving an explicit construction of minimal surface solutions previously shown to exist (Indiana Univ. Math. J. 50 (2001), no. 1, 411–441) we clarify two outstanding questions. Solutions are constructed in the case α = π/2 for contact angle data (γ1, γ2) = (γ, π − γ) with 0 < γ < π. The solutions given with |γ − π/2| < π/4 are the first known solutions that are not C2 up to the corner. This shows that the best known regularity (C1, ∈) is the best possible in some cases. Specific dependence of the H?lder exponent on the contact angle for our examples is given. Solutions with γ = π/4 have continuous, but horizontal, normal vector at the corners in accordance with results of Tam (Pacific J. Math. 124 (1986), 469–482). It is shown that our examples are C0, β up to and including the corner for any β < 1. Solutions with |γ − π/2| > π/4 have a jump discontinuity at the corner. This kind of behavior was suggested by numerical work of Concus and Finn (Microgravity sci. technol. VII/2 (1994), 152–155) and Mittelmann and Zhu (Microgravity sci. technol. IX/1 (1996), 22–27). Our explicit construction, however, allows us to investigate the solutions quantitatively. For example, the trace of these solutions, excluding the jump discontinuity, is C2/3.  相似文献

Understanding the radiation embrittlement of reactor pressure vessel (RPV) steels is required to be able to operate safely a nuclear power plant or to extend its lifetime. The mechanical properties degradation is partly due to the clustering of solute under irradiation. To gain knowledge about the clustering process, a Fe−1.1 Mn−0.7 Ni (at.%) alloy was irradiated in a test reactor at two fluxes of 0.15 and 9 ×1017 n E > 1MeV .m − 2.s − 1 and at increasing doses from 0.18 to 1.3 ×1024 n E > 1MeV .m − 2 at 300°C. Atom probe tomography (APT) experiments revealed that the irradiation promotes the formation in the α iron matrix of Mn/Mn and/or Ni/Ni pair correlations at low dose and Mn–Ni enriched clusters at high dose. These clusters dissolve partially after a thermal treatment at 400°C. Based on a comparison with thermodynamic calculations, we show that the solute clustering under irradiation can just result from an induced mechanism.  相似文献

Under assumptions on smoothness of the initial velocity and the external body force, we prove that there exists T 0 > 0, ν 0 > 0 and a unique continuous family of strong solutions u ν (0 ≤ ν < ν 0) of the Euler or Navier–Stokes initial-boundary value problem on the time interval (0, T 0). In addition to the condition of the zero flux, the solutions of the Navier–Stokes equation satisfy certain natural boundary conditions imposed on curl u ν and curl 2 u ν .   相似文献

In reference [7] it is proved that the solution of the evolution Navier–Stokes equations in the whole of R 3 must be smooth if the direction of the vorticity is Lipschitz continuous with respect to the space variables. In reference [5] the authors improve the above result by showing that Lipschitz continuity may be replaced by 1/2-H?lder continuity. A central point in the proofs is to estimate the integral of the term (ω · ∇)u · ω, where u is the velocity and ω = ∇ × u is the vorticity. In reference [4] we extend the main estimates on the above integral term to solutions under the slip boundary condition in the half-space R +3. This allows an immediate extension to this problem of the 1/2-H?lder sufficient condition. The aim of these notes is to show that under the non-slip boundary condition the above integral term may be estimated as well in a similar, even simpler, way. Nevertheless, without further hypotheses, we are not able now to extend to the non slip (or adherence) boundary condition the 1/2-H?lder sufficient condition. This is not due to the “nonlinear" term (ω · ∇)u · ω but to a boundary integral which is due to the combination of viscosity and adherence to the boundary. On the other hand, by appealing to the properties of Green functions, we are able to consider here a regular, arbitrary open set Ω.   相似文献

The laminar-turbulent transition is experimentally studied in boundary-layer flows on cones with a rectangular axisymmetric step in the base part of the cone and without the step. The experiments are performed in an A-1 two-step piston-driven gas-dynamic facility with adiabatic compression of the working gas with Mach numbers at the nozzle exit M = 12–14 and pressures in the settling chamber P0 = 60–600 MPa. These values of parameters allow obtaining Reynolds numbers per meter near the cone surface equal to Re 1e = (53–200) · 106 m −1. The transition occurs at Reynolds numbers Re tr = (2.3–5.7) · 106. __________ Translated from Prikladnaya Mekhanika i Tekhnicheskaya Fizika, Vol. 48, No. 3, pp. 76–83, May–June, 2007.  相似文献

The effect of the impact velocity and shape of the head of a rigid shell of caliber 20mm on the depth of its penetration into a thick obstacle made of mild low-carbon steel for impact velocities of up to 600m/sec is studied experimentally. Experimental relations between the penetration depth and the impact velocity are obtained for shells with conical and semispherical heads. It is found that for a penetration depth equal to 1 or 2 calibers, the penetration resistance does not depend on the head shape and is characterized by an average stress equal to 2.98GPa. We consider reaction diffusion equations of the prototype form u t = u xx + λ u + |u| p-1 u on the interval 0 < x < π, with p > 1 and λ > m 2. We study the global blow-up dynamics in the m-dimensional fast unstable manifold of the trivial equilibrium u ≡ 0. In particular, sign-changing solutions are included. Specifically, we find initial conditions such that the blow-up profile u(t, x) at blow-up time t = T possesses m + 1 intervals of strict monotonicity with prescribed extremal values u 1, . . . ,u m . Since u k = ± ∞ at blow-up time t = T, for some k, this exhausts the dimensional possibilities of trajectories in the m-dimensional fast unstable manifold. Alternatively, we can prescribe the locations x = x 1, . . . ,x m of the extrema, at blow-up time, up to a one-dimensional constraint. The proofs are based on an elementary Brouwer degree argument for maps which encode the shapes of solution profiles via their extremal values and extremal locations, respectively. Even in the linear case, such an “interpolation of shape” was not known to us. Our blow-up result generalizes earlier work by Chen and Matano (1989), J. Diff. Eq. 78, 160–190, and Merle (1992), Commun. Pure Appl. Math. 45(3), 263–300 on multi-point blow-up for positive solutions, which were not constrained to possess global extensions for all negative times. Our results are based on continuity of the blow-up time, as proved by Merle (1992), Commun. Pure Appl. Math. 45(3), 263–300, and Quittner (2003), Houston J. Math. 29(3), 757–799, and on a refined variant of Merle’s continuity of the blow-up profile, as addressed in the companion paper Matano and Fiedler (2007) (in preparation). Accurate models of multiphase flow in porous media and predictions of oil recovery require a thorough understanding of the physics of fluid flow. Current simulators assume, generally, that local capillary equilibrium is reached instantaneously during any flow mode. Consequently, capillary pressure and relative permeability curves are functions solely of water saturation. In the case of imbibition, the assumption of instantaneous local capillary equilibrium allows the balance equations to be cast in the form of a self-similar, diffusion-like problem. Li et al. [J. Petrol. Sci. Eng. 39(3) (2003), 309–326] analyzed oil production data from spontaneous countercurrent imbibition experiments and inferred that they observed the self-similar behavior expected from the mathematical equations. Others (Barenblatt et al. [Soc. Petrol. Eng. J. 8(4) (2002), 409–416]; Silin and Patzek [Transport in Porous Media 54 (2004), 297–322]) assert that local equilibirum is not reached in porous media during spontaneous imbibition and nonequilibirium effects should be taken into account. Simulations and definitive experiments are conducted at core scale in this work to reveal unequivocally nonequilbirium effects. Experimental in-situ saturation data obtained with a computerized tomography scanner illustrate significant deviation from the numerical local-equilibrium based results. The data indicates: (i) capillary imbibition is an inherently nonequilibrium process and (ii) the traditional, multi-phase, reservoir simulation equations may not well represent the true physics of the process.  相似文献

The goal of this paper is to present a flexible multibody formulation for Euler-Bernoulli beams involving large displacements. This method is based on a discretisation of internal and kinetic energies. The beam is represented by its line of centroids and each section is oriented by a frame defined by three Euler angles. We apply a finite element formulation to describe the evolution of these angles along the neutral fibre and describe the internal energy. The kinetic energy is approximated as the one of two rigid bars tangent to the neutral fibre at the ends of the beam. We derive the equations of motion from a Lagrange formulation. These equations are solved using the Newmark method or/and the Newton-Raphson technique. We solve some very classic problems taken from the literature as the curved beam presented by Simo [Simo, J. C., ‘A three-dimensional finite-strain rod model. the three-dimensional dynamic problem. Part I’, Comput. Meths. Appl. Mech. Engrg. 49, 1985, 55–70; Simo, J. In this paper diffusion of a dilute solution of elastic dumbbell model macromolecules under non-isothermal conditions is studied. Using the center of mass definition for the local polymer concentration, the diffusive flux contains a thermal diffusion dyadic d T .  To get some idea of thermal diffusion d T is evaluated for steady state isothermal conditions. Explicit results are presented for some homogeneous flows. It is shown that if the polymeric number density is defined via the beads (of the dumbbell) – termed n b – then the diffusive flux j contains , where τ c is the intramolecular contribution to the bulk stress. Though the form of the diffusion equation for n b thus differs from the corresponding one for n, it is shown that for essentially unbounded systems differences between n and n b are small. Since the results involve the translational diffusion coefficient they can readily be taken over for Rouse coils. Received: 23 September 1997 Accepted: 5 June 1998  相似文献

Transient laminar natural convection over a sphere which is subjected to a constant heat flux has been studied numerically for high Grashof numbers (105Gr ≤ 109) and a wide range of Prandtl numbers (Pr = 0.02, 0.7, 7, and 100). A plume with a mushroom-shaped cap forms above the sphere and drifts upward continuously with time. The size and the level of temperature of the transient cap and plume stem decrease with increasing Gr and Pr. Flow separation and an associated vortex may appear in the wake of the sphere depending on the magnitude of Gr and Pr. A recirculation vortex which appears and grows until “steady state” is attained was found only for the very high Grashof numbers (105Gr ≤ 109) and the lowest Prandtl number considered (Pr = 0.02). The appearance and subsequent disappearance of a vortex was observed for Gr = 109 and Pr = 0.7. Over the lower hemisphere, the thickness of both the hydrodynamic (δH) and the thermal (δT) boundary layers remain nearly constant and the sphere surface is nearly isothermal. The surface temperature presents a local maximum in the wake of the sphere whenever a vortex is established in the wake of the sphere. The surface pressure recovery in the wake of the sphere increases with decreasing Pr and with increasing Gr. For very small Pr, unlike forced convection, the ratio δTH remains close to unity. The results are in good agreement with experimental data and in excellent agreement with numerical results available in the literature. A correlation has also been presented for the overall Nusselt number as a function of Gr and Pr.  相似文献

Large-Eddy simulations (LES) of spatially evolving turbulent buoyant round jets have been carried out with two different density ratios. The numerical method used is based on a low-Mach-number version of the Navier–Stokes equations for weakly compressible flow using a second-order centre-difference scheme for spatial discretization in Cartesian coordinates and an Adams–Bashforth scheme for temporal discretization. The simulations reproduce the typical temporal and spatial development of turbulent buoyant jets. The near-field dynamic phenomenon of puffing associated with the formation of large vortex structures near the plume base with a varicose mode of instability and the far-field random motions of small-scale eddies are well captured. The pulsation frequencies of the buoyant plumes compare reasonably well with the experimental results of Cetegen (1997) under different density ratios, and the underlying mechanism of the pulsation instability is analysed by examining the vorticity transport equation where it is found that the baroclinic torque, buoyancy force and volumetric expansion are the dominant terms. The roll-up of the vortices is broken down by a secondary instability mechanism which leads to strong turbulent mixing and a subsequent jet spreading. The transition from laminar to turbulence occurs at around four diameters when random disturbances with a 5% level of forcing are imposed to a top-hat velocity profile at the inflow plane and the transition from jet-like to plume-like behaviour occurs further downstream. The energy-spectrum for the temperature fluctuations show both −5/3 and −3 power laws, characteristic of buoyancy-dominated flows. Comparisons are conducted between LES results and experimental measurements, and good agreement has been achieved for the mean and turbulence quantities. The decay of the centreline mean velocity is proportional to x −1/3 in the plume-like region consistent with the experimental observation, but is different from the x −1 law for a non-buoyant jet, where x is the streamwise location. The distributions of the mean velocity, temperature and their fluctuations in the near-field strongly depend upon the ratio of the ambient density to plume density ρa0. The increase of ρa0 under buoyancy forcing causes an increase in the self-similar turbulent intensities and turbulent fluxes and an increase in the spatial growth rate. Budgets of the mean momentum, energy, temperature variance and turbulent kinetic energy are analysed and it is found that the production of turbulence kinetic energy by buoyancy relative to the production by shear is increased with the increase of ρa0. This paper is devoted to the study of a LES model to simulate turbulent 3D periodic flow. We focus our attention on the vorticity equation derived from this LES model for small values of the numerical grid size δ. We obtain entropy inequalities for the sequence of corresponding vorticities and corresponding pressures independent of δ, provided the initial velocity u0 is in Lx2 while the initial vorticity ω0 = ∇ × u0 is in Lx1. When δ tends to zero, we show convergence, in a distributional sense, of the corresponding equations for the vorticities to the classical 3D equation for the vorticity.  相似文献

It is known that the Cauchy stress tensor T is a pure shear when trT = 0. An elementary derivation is given for a coordinate system such that, when referred to this coordinate system, the diagonal elements of T vanish while the off-diagonal elements τ 1, τ 2, τ 3, are the pure shears. The structure of τ i (i = 1, 2, 3) depends on one non-dimensional parameter q = 54(detT)2 / [tr(T 2)]3, 0 ≤ q ≤ 1. When q = 0, one of the three τ i vanishes. A coordinate system can be chosen such that the remaining two have the same magnitude or one of the remaining two also vanishes. When q = 1, all three τ i have the same magnitude. However, there is a one-parameter family of coordinate systems that gives the same three τ i . For q ≠ 0 or 1, none of the three τ i vanishes and the three τ i in general have different magnitudes. Nevertheless, a coordinate system can be chosen such that two of the three τ i have the same magnitude. We prove the asymptotic stability of two-state nonplanar Riemann solutions for a class of multidimensional hyperbolic systems of conservation laws when the initial data are perturbed and viscosity is added. The class considered here is those systems whose flux functions in different directions share a common complete system of Riemann invariants, the level surfaces of which are hyperplanes. In particular, we obtain the uniqueness of the self-similar L entropy solution of the two-state nonplanar Riemann problem. The asymptotic stability to which the main result refers is in the sense of the convergence as t→∞ in Lloc1 of the space of directions ξ = x/t. That is, the solution u(t, x) of the perturbed problem satisfies u(t, tξ)→R(ξ) as t→∞, in Lloc1(ℝn), where R(ξ) is the self-similar entropy solution of the corresponding two-state nonplanar Riemann problem.  相似文献

We consider a constant coefficient coagulation equation with Becker–D?ring type interactions and power law input of monomers J 1(t) = α t ω, with α > 0 and . For this infinite dimensional system we prove solutions converge to similarity profiles as t and j converge to infinity in a similarity way, namely with either or constants, where is a function of t only. This work generalizes to the non-autonomous case a recent result of da Costa et al. (2004). Markov Processes Relat. Fields 12, 367–398. and provides a rigorous derivation of formal results obtained by Wattis J. Phys. A: Math. Gen. 37, 7823–7841. The main part of the approach is the analysis of a bidimensional non-autonomous system obtained through an appropriate change of variables; this is achieved by the use of differential inequalities and qualitative theory methods. The results about rate of convergence of solutions of the bidimensional system thus obtained are fed into an integral formula representation for the solutions of the infinite dimensional system which is then estimated by an adaptation of methods used by da Costa et al. (2004). Markov Processes Relat. Fields 12, 367–398.   相似文献

The complexity measure from Shiner et al. [Physical Review E 59, 1999, 1459–1464] (henceforth abbreviated as SDL-measure) has recently been the subject of a fierce debate. We discuss the properties and shortcomings of this measure, from the point of view of our recently constructed fundamental, statistical mechanics-based measures of complexity Cs(γ,β) [Stoop et al., J. Stat. Phys. 114, 2004, 1127–1137]. We show explicitly, what the shortcomings of the SDL-measure are: It is over-universal, and the implemented temperature dependence is trivial. We also show how the original SDL-approach can be modified to rule out these points of critique. Results of this modification are shown for the logistic parabola.  相似文献
