A simple shallow-water model with influence of diabatic heating on a β-plane is applied to investigate the nonlinear equatorial Rossby waves in a shear flow. By the asymptotic method of multiple scales, the cubic nonlinear Schro^edinger (NLS for short) equation with an external heating source is derived for large amplitude equatorial envelope Rossby wave in a shear flow. And then various periodic structures for these equatorial envelope Rossby waves are obtained with the help of Jacob/elliptic functions and elliptic equation. It is shown that phase-locked diabatic heating plays an important role in periodic structures of rational form.  相似文献

The problems of the asymptotic theory of weakly nonlinear surface waves in viscous fluid are discussed. For standing waves on deep water, the solutions obtained in the first- and second-order approximations in a small parameter—wave steepness—are analyzed. The evolution equation for the amplitude of wave packet envelope is obtained where the inverse Reynolds number is equal to the squared steepness. It is shown that this is a nonlinear Schrödinger equation with linear dissipation.  相似文献

The dissipative nonlinear Schrödinger equation with a forcing item is derived by using of multiple scales analysis and perturbation method as a mathematical model of describing envelope solitary Rossby waves with dissipation effect and external forcing in rotational stratified fluids. By analyzing the evolution of amplitude of envelope solitary Rossby waves, it is found that the shear of basic flow, Brunt-Vaisala frequency and β effect are important factors in forming the envelope solitary Rossby waves. By employing Jacobi elliptic function expansion method and Hirota's direct method, the analytic solutions of dissipative nonlinear Schrödinger equation and forced nonlinear Schrödinger equation are derived, respectively. With the help of these solutions, the effects of dissipation and external forcing on the evolution of envelope solitary Rossby wave are also discussed in detail. The results show that dissipation causes slowly decrease of amplitude of envelope solitary Rossby waves and slowly increase of width, while it has no effect on the propagation speed and different types of external forcing can excite the same envelope solitary Rossby waves. It is notable that dissipation and different types of external forcing have certain influence on the carrier frequency of envelope solitary Rossby waves.  相似文献

This paper presents an analytical investigation of the propagation of internal solitary waves in the ocean of finite depth. Using the multi-scale analysis and reduced perturbation methods, the integrodifferential equation is derived, which is called the intermediate long wave(ILW) equation and can describe the amplitude of internal solitary waves. It can reduce to the Benjamin–Ono equation in the deep-water limit, and to the Kd V equation in the shallow-water limit. Little attention has been paid to the features of integro-differential equations, especially for their conservation laws. Here,based on Hirota bilinear method, B?cklund transformations in bilinear form of ILW equation are derived and infinite number of conservation laws are given. Finally, we analyze the fission phenomenon of internal solitary waves theoretically and verify it through numerical simulation. All of these have potential value for the further research on ocean internal solitary waves.  相似文献

We introduce an extended nonlinear Schrödinger (ENLS) equation describing the dynamics of modulated waves in a nonlinear discrete electrical transmission line (NLTL) with nonlinear dispersion. We show that this equation admits envelope dark solitary wave with compact support, with width and speed independent of the amplitude, as a solution. Analytical criteria of existence and stability of this solution are derived. In particular, we show that the modulated compact wave may exist in the NLTL depending on the frequency range of the chosen carrier wave, for physically realistic parameters. The stability of compact dark solitary wave is confirmed by numerical simulations of this ENLS equation and the exact equations of the network.  相似文献

利用Landau-Lifshitz 方程,研究了具有非均匀交换各向异性的半无限大铁磁体的非线性表 面自旋波理论。导出了部分钉扎纯交换铁磁介质的磁化强度所满足的边界条件和非线性表面 自旋波的色散关系,并获得了自旋波振幅沿z方向驻波的一维非线性Schrdinger方程和包 络振幅沿平面传播的二维非线性Schrdinger方程,结果表明铁磁体磁化强度的包络振幅随时空变化的性质是由二维非线性Schrdinger方程决定的。因此预言铁磁介质的表面非线性激发应是二维孤波的形式。对于弱非线性表面自旋波,对非线性Schrdinger方程存在孤子形式解的可能性作了讨论. 关键词: 表面自旋波 Landau-Lifshitz方程 非线性Schrdinger方程 孤子  相似文献

Rogue waves can be categorized as unexpectedly large waves, which are temporally and spatially localized. They have recently received much attention in the water wave context, and also been found in nonlinear optical fibers. In this paper, we examine the issue of whether rogue internal waves can be found in the ocean. Because large-amplitude internal waves are commonly observed in the coastal ocean, and are often modeled by weakly nonlinear long wave equations of the Korteweg-de Vries type, we focus our attention on this shallow-water context. Specifically, we examine the occurrence of rogue waves in the Gardner equation, which is an extended version of the Korteweg-de Vries equation with quadratic and cubic nonlinearity, and is commonly used for the modelling of internal solitary waves in the ocean. Importantly, we choose that version of the Gardner equation for which the coefficient of the cubic nonlinear term and the coefficient of the linear dispersive term have the same sign, as this allows for modulational instability. From numerical simulations of the evolution of a modulated narrow-band initial wave field, we identify several scenarios where rogue waves occur.  相似文献

The dynamics of waves in weakly nonlinear dispersive media can be described by the nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLSE). An important feature of the equation is that it can be derived in a number of different physical contexts; therefore, analogies between different fields, such as for example fiber optics, water waves, plasma waves and Bose–Einstein condensates, can be established. Here, we investigate the similarities between wave propagation in optical Kerr media and water waves. In particular, we discuss the modulation instability (MI) in both media. In analogy to the water wave problem, we derive for Kerr-media the Benjamin–Feir index, i.e. a nondimensional parameter related to the probability of formation of rogue waves in incoherent wave trains.  相似文献

A theoretical investigation has been made of nonlinear propagation of ultra-low-frequency electromagnetic waves in a magnetized two fluid (negatively charged dust and positively charged ion fluids) dusty plasma. These are modified Alfvén waves for small value of and are modified magnetosonic waves for large , where is the angle between the directions of the external magnetic field and the wave propagation. A nonlinear evolution equation for the wave magnetic field, which is known as Korteweg de Vries (K-dV) equation and which admits a stationary solitary wave solution, is derived by the reductive perturbation method. The effects of external magnetic field and dust characteristics on the amplitude and the width of these solitary structures are examined. The implications of these results to some space and astrophysical plasma systems, especially to planetary ring-systems, are briefly mentioned. We investigated the nonlinear Langmuir waves in a multi-ion-component low-temperature plasma. Beginning with the fluid theory of plasma, and taking fully nonlinear response of the low-frequency ion motion into account, we derived a set of equations governing the nonlinear coupling of the amplitude of the Langmuir wave and the low-frequency perturbation density. Using the Sagdeev potential method, we analyzed the characteristics of solitary wave. In the limit of small amplitude, the envelope soliton was found. Our investigation demonstrates that the properties of soliton in a multi-ion-component plasma are different from those of soliton in an electron-ion plasma.  相似文献

The modulational instability of dust acoustic waves in a dusty plasma with non-adiabatic dust charge fluctuation is studied. Using the perturbation method, a modified nonlinear Schrödinger equation containing a damping term that comes from the effect of dust charge variation is derived. It is found that the modulational instability of the wave packet and the propagation characters of the envelope solitary waves are modified significantly by the non-adiabatic dust charge fluctuation.  相似文献

A quasi-hyperbolic equation is derived that simulates the axisymmetric propagation of bending waves in a cylindrical shell, which interacts with a nonlinearly elastic medium. With the correct asymptotic procedure, the study of a wave process reduces to analysis of a nonlinear Schrödinger equation. It is established that the development of modulation instability requires a “soft” nonlinearity of the medium surrounding the shell. Operating modes that allow the propagation of stable light envelope solitons are revealed.  相似文献

This paper addresses the (2+1)-dimensional cubic-quintic nonlinear Schrödinger equation (CQNLS) that serves as the model to study the light propagation through nonlinear optical media and non-Kerr crystals. A dark–bright optical solitary wave solution of this equation is retrieved by adopting the complex envelope function ansatz. This type of solitary wave describes the properties of bright and dark optical solitary waves in the same expression. The integration naturally lead to a constraint condition placed on the solitary wave parameters which must hold for the solitary waves to exist. Additionally, the modulation instability (MI) analysis of the model is studied based on the standard linear stability analysis and the MI gain spectrum is got. Numerical simulation and physical interpretations of the obtained results are demonstrated. It is hoped that the results reported in this paper can enrich the nonlinear dynamical behaviors of the CQNLS.  相似文献
