We report generation of terahertz (THz) radiation in a planar 61-microm-thick GaAs waveguide with a TM0 propagation mode, achieved by phase-matched difference frequency mixing. The THz output was centered near 2 THz and had 1 microW average power. As a pump source we utilized both the signal and the idler outputs of a near-degenerate type II synchronously pumped optical parametric oscillator operating near 2 microm with the average powers of 250 and 750 mW, correspondingly.  相似文献

We generated 1 mW of average output power at 2.8 THz (bandwidth of approximately 300 GHz) in a diffraction-limited beam by placing a 6-mm-long quasi-phase-matched GaAs crystal inside the cavity of a synchronously pumped optical parametric oscillator (OPO). The OPO used type-II-phase-matched periodically poled lithium niobate as a gain medium and was pumped by a mode-locked laser at 1064 nm, with a 7 ps pulse duration, 50 MHz repetition rate, and 10 W average output power. The terahertz radiation was generated by difference frequency mixing between the signal and idler waves of the near-degenerate doubly resonant OPO.  相似文献

We present a cascaded continuous-wave singly resonant optical parametric oscillator (SRO) delivering idler output in mid-IR and terahertz frequency range. The SRO was pumped by an ytterbium-doped fiber laser with 27 W linear polarization pump powers, and based on periodically poled MgO:LiNbO3 crystal (PPMgLN) in two-mirror linear cavity. The PPMgLN is 50 mm long with 29.5 μm period. The idler power output at 3811 nm was obtained 2.6 W. The additional spectral components that have been attributed to cascaded optical parametric processes are described at increasing pump levels. Besides the initial signal component at about 1476.8 nm, further generated wavelengths with frequency shifts about 47 cm?1, 94 cm?1 and 104 cm?1 were observed. It was speculated that the idler waves lie in the terahertz (THz) domain from the observed results.  相似文献

A synchronously pumped optical parametric oscillator, based on periodically poled lithium niobate, has operated at idler wavelengths out to 7.3 microm . Directly measured idler output powers (average) are 4.2 mW at 6.1 microm, 0.5 mW at 7.0 microm, and 0.04 mW at 7.25 microm . Characterization of the idler output indicates essentially bandwidth-limited and diffraction-limited operation.  相似文献

We report an acousto-optic Q-switched Nd:GdVO4 laser pumped flexibly tunable cascaded optical parametric oscillator (OPO) based on two separate multi-channel periodically poled magnesium oxide doped Lithium Niobate (PPMgLN). Even under lower pump power, long wavelength parametric output was found to be more easily generated than in single stage OPO. A cascaded idler output at 5.075 μm was found to be generated. A convenient method to monitor the occurring of the cascaded parametric process was also presented by measuring the spectrum of sum-frequency generation of the pump power and the cascaded signal power.  相似文献

Continuous mode-locked operation of a singly resonant, synchronously pumped optical parametric oscillator (SPOPO) based on CdSe has produced idler output tuned over the range of 9.1-9.7 microm, the longest wavelength generated so far to our knowledge from a SPOPO. Average idler powers as high as approximately 70 mW are generated in the crystal. Tandem pumping with a diffraction-grating-tuned parametric oscillator in periodically poled lithium niobate provides a convenient and agile means of tuning the noncritically phase-matched CdSe device. The absence of any detrimental thermal effects in the CdSe crystal suggests that significant further power scaling should be possible, with idler tuning ranges extendable to cover 8-12 microm.  相似文献

A noncascading terahertz (THz) wave parametric oscillator synchronously pumped by a mode-locked picosecond Ti:sapphire laser whose average power was less than 1 W was demonstrated with a noncollinear phase-matching MgO:LiNbO3 crystal in an external enhancement cavity doubly resonant for both pump (780 nm) and signal (781-784 nm) waves. In the external cavity, in which the pump wave enhanced so as to reduce the pumping threshold of parametric processes, the signal wave could also resonate and thus be enhanced simultaneously, resulting in a THz wave output at approximately 0.9 THz as the idler wave. The novel dual enhancement of pump and signal waves reduced the threshold pumping intensity to approximately 50 MW/cm2, which was much lower than that of a conventional externally pumped THz wave parametric oscillator with a crystal.  相似文献

We report a femtosecond optical parametric oscillator based on a periodically poled KTiOPO(4) crystal for which quasi-phase matching is achieved with a 24-microm poling period. The singly resonant parametric oscillator, synchronously pumped by a Ti:sapphire laser at a wavelength of 758 nm, generates a signal at 1200 nm and an idler at 2060 nm. The maximum signal power conversion efficiency of the device is 22% with a pump depletion of 69%. We tune the signal wavelength over a 200-nm band by changing the cavity length. In addition, pump wavelength tuning provides output tunability in the 1000-1235-nm range.  相似文献

We describe a synchronously pumped femtosecond optical parametric oscillator based on periodically poled LiNbO(3) that is broadly tunable in the mid infrared. A transmission window of periodically poled lithium niobate beyond the conventionally accepted infrared absorption edge of 5.4 mum has been exploited to produce idler pulses that are tunable across a wavelength range of 4 mum , with milliwatt-level output powers at wavelengths as long as 6.8 mum . We also present experimental tuning results that are in good agreement with the theoretical phase matching predicted from published infrared-corrected Sellmeier equations for LiNbO(3) .  相似文献

We report a high-energy optical parametric oscillator (OPO) synchronously pumped by a 7.19 MHz, Yb:fiber-amplified, picosecond, gain-switched laser diode. The 42-m-long ring cavity maintains a compact design through the use of an intracavity optical fiber. The periodically poled MgO-doped LiNbO(3) OPO provides output pulse energies as high as 0.49 μJ at 1.5 μm (signal) and 0.19 μJ at 3.6 μm (idler). Tunability from 1.5 to 1.7 μm and from 2.9 to 3.6 μm is demonstrated, and typical M(2) values of 1.5 × 1.3 and 2.8 × 1.9 are measured for the signal and idler, respectively, at high power.  相似文献

The generation of pulsed squeezed light using an optical parametric oscillator (OPO) is discussed. This mode-locked optical parametric oscillator consists of a nonlinear crystal in a cavity which is resonant for both signal and idler waves and which is synchronously pumped by the second-harmonic of an acousto-optically mode-locked cw Nd: YAG laser. The fundamental wavelength of the pump laser provides local oscillator pulses for balanced homodyne detection of squeezed vacuum pulses emitted by the oscillator when operated below oscillation threshold. Photocurrent noise reduction to 30% below the classical shot-noise limit is observed, corresponding to squeezing of the field to a level approximately a factor of two below the mean square vacuum noise.  相似文献

We describe a compact all-solid-state continuous-wave, singly resonant optical parametric oscillator (SRO) based on periodically poled RbTiOAsO4. The SRO is pumped at 1.064 microm by a Nd:YVO4 laser, which is itself pumped by a 3-W diode laser. Using the intracavity technique produced an oscillation threshold for the SRO of only 1.6 W (diode-laser power). For 3 W of diode pump power some 65 mW was obtained in the (nonresonant) idler (wavelength 3.52 microm). Temperature tuning over the range 10-100 degrees C resulted in tuning ranges of 1.52-1.54 and 3.41-3.54 microm for the signal and the idler waves, respectively. Importantly, relaxation oscillations were absent.  相似文献

We report a synchronously pumped intracavity frequency-doubled optical parametric oscillator that employs a single KTiOPO(4) crystal for both parametric generation and frequency doubling. Both nonlinear processes are phase matched for the same direction of propagation in the crystal. The parametric oscillator, pumped by a femtosecond Ti:sapphire laser at a wavelength of 745 nm, generates a green output beam at 540 nm with a 29% power conversion efficiency. Angle tuning in conjunction with pump wavelength tuning provides output tunability in the 530-585-nm range.  相似文献

We demonstrate a synchronously pumped high-gain optical parametric oscillator with feedback through a fiber, using a passively mode-locked Yb:YAG thin-disk laser as a pump source. We obtain as much as 19-W average signal power at a wavelength of 1.45 microm in 840-fs pulses and 7.8 W of idler power at 3.57 microm. The repetition rate of the pulses is 56 MHz, and the transverse beam quality of the generated signal is M2 < 1.6.  相似文献

We report a femtosecond optical parametric oscillator based on MgO-doped PPLN synchronously pumped by a mode-locked Ti:sapphire laser. The wavelengths of the signal and idler are continuously tuned from 1100 to 1300hm and from 2080 to 2930nm, respectively, by changing the pump wavelength and the OPO cavity length. The maximum signal output power of 130mW at the wavelength of 1225nm is obtained, pumped by 900roW of 800hm laser radiation. This corresponds to a total conversion efficiency of 22.1%. The signal pulse duration is measured to be 167fs by intensity autocorrelation with chirped mirrors for intracavity dispersion compensation.  相似文献

The signal and idler beams from a picosecond, synchronously pumped optical parametric oscillator (OPO) provide the two colors necessary for coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (CARS) microscopy. The OPO provides a continuously tunable frequency difference between the two beams over a broad range of Raman shifts (100-3700 cm(-1)) by varying the temperature of a single nonlinear crystal. The near-infrared output (900-1300 nm) allows for deep penetration into thick samples and reduced nonlinear photodamage. Applications of this light source to in vivo cell and ex vivo tissue imaging are demonstrated.  相似文献

We report on an optical parametric oscillator (OPO) that is synchronously pumped directly by a diode laser. This laser is an actively mode-locked master-oscillator power-amplifier system that produces 20-ps pulses at 927 nm with a repetition rate of 2.5 GHz and an average power of 0.9 W. The OPO, which is a singly resonant device based on periodically poled lithium niobate, generates 7.8-ps pulses. The OPO threshold is 300 mW of average pump power, and the maximum average idler output power is 78 mW at a wavelength of 2100 nm. By changing the crystal temperature we can wavelength tune the output in the ranges 1530-1737 nm (signal) and 1986-2348 nm (idler). Rapid wavelength tuning of the OPO over 46 nm (signal) and 74 nm (idler) is achieved through tuning the cavity length over 28 microm by use of a piezoelectric transducer.  相似文献

We describe a widely tunable synchronously pumped coherent source based on the process of narrowband parametric amplification in a dispersion-shifted fiber. Using an experimental fiber with a zero-dispersion wavelength of 1590 nm and pump wavelengths of 1530 to 1570 nm yields oscillations at 1970 to 2140 nm-the longest reported wavelength for a fiber parametric oscillator. The long-wavelength oscillations are accompanied by simultaneous short-wavelength oscillations at 1200 to 1290 nm. The parametric gain is coupled to stimulated Raman scattering. For parametric oscillations close to the Raman gain peak, the two gain processes must be discriminated from each other. We devised two configurations that achieve this discrimination: one is based on the exploitation of the difference in group delay between the wavelengths where Raman and parametric gain peak, and the other uses intracavity polarization tuning.  相似文献
