We have investigated the structural, elastic and electronic properties of the anti-perovskite TlNCa3 using ab initio calculations within the generalized gradient approximation and the local density approximation for the exchange–correlation potential. The lattice constant, bulk modulus, elastic constants and their pressure dependence, energy band structures, density of states and charge density distribution are calculated and analyzed in comparison with the available experimental and theoretical data. The bulk modulus, shear modulus, Young’s modulus, Poisson’s ratio, Lamé’s coefficients, average sound velocity and Debye temperature are numerically estimated for ideal polycrystalline TlNCa3 aggregates in the framework of the Voigt–Reuss–Hill approximation. This is the first theoretical prediction of the elastic constants and their related properties for TlNCa3 that requires experimental confirmation.  相似文献

We have performed accurate ab initio total energy calculations using the full-potential linear augmented plane wave plus local orbitals method with the local density approximation for the exchange–correlation potential to investigate the systematic trends for structural and elastic properties of the cubic LaFe4A12 skutterudites’ family depending on the type of A pnicogen atom (A stands for P, As and Sb). The calculated equilibrium lattice constants and internal free parameters are in good agreement with the experimental results. For the first time, the numerical estimates of the independent elastic constants and their pressure dependence are performed using the total energy variation as function of strain technique. Isotropic elastic parameters and related properties, namely bulk modulus, shear modulus, Young’s modulus, Poisson’s ratio, Lamé’s coefficients, average sound velocity and Debye temperature, are estimated in the framework of the Voigt–Reuss–Hill approximation for ideal polycrystalline LaFe4A12 aggregates.  相似文献

We have performed ab-initio total energy calculations using the plane-wave ultrasoft pseudopotential technique based on the first-principles density-functional theory (DFT) to study structural, elastic, mechanical, electronic, and optical properties of cubic Mg2TiO4. The calculated lattice parameter a is in good agreement with the experimental values. The independent elastic constants are calculated. The mechanical properties including bulk, shear and Young’s modulus, Poisson’s coefficient, compressibility and Lamé’s constants are obtained using the Voigt-Reuss-Hill method. Debye temperature is estimated using the Debye-Grüneisen model. Band structure, density of states and charge densities are shown and analyzed. In order to clarify the mechanism of optical transitions of cubic Mg2TiO4, the complex dielectric function, refractive index, extinction coefficient, reflectivity, absorption coefficient, loss function and complex conductivity function are calculated.  相似文献

The elastic, electronic and thermodynamic properties of fluoro-perovskite KZnF3 have been calculated using the full-potential linearized augmented plane wave (FP-LAPW) method. The exchange-correlation potential is treated with the generalized gradient approximation of Perdew-Burke-Ernzerhof (GGA-PBE). Also, we have used the Engel and Vosko GGA formalism (GGA-EV) to improve the electronic band structure calculations. The calculated structural properties are in good agreement with available experimental and theoretical data. The elastic constants C ij are calculated using the total energy variation with strain technique. The shear modulus, Young’s modulus, Poisson’s ratio and the Lamé coefficients for polycrystalline KZnF3 aggregates are estimated in the framework of the Voigt-Reuss-Hill approximations. The ductility behavior of this compound is interpreted via the calculated elastic constants C ij . Electronic and bonding properties are discussed from the calculations of band structure, density of states and electron charge density. The thermodynamic properties are predicted through the quasi-harmonic Debye model, in which the lattice vibrations are taken into account. The variation of bulk modulus, lattice constant, heat capacities and the Debye temperature with pressure and temperature are successfully obtained.  相似文献

The structural, elastic and thermodynamic properties of the α (tetragonal) and β (orthorhombic) polymorphs of the Sr2GeN2 compound have been examined in detail using ab initio density functional theory pseudopotential plane-wave calculations. Apart the structural properties at the ambient conditions, all present reported results are predicted for the first time. The calculated equilibrium lattice parameters and inter-atomic bond-lengths of the considered polymorphs are in good agreement with the available experimental data. It is found that α-Sr2GeN2 is energetically more stable than β-Sr2GeN2. The two examined polymorphs are very similar in their crystal structures and have almost identical local environments. The single-crystal and polycrystalline elastic parameters and related properties – including elastic constants, bulk, shear and Young’s moduli, Poisson’s ratio, anisotropy indexes, Pugh’s criterion, elastic wave velocities and Debye temperature – have been predicted. Temperature and pressure dependence of some macroscopic properties – including the unit-cell volume, bulk modulus, volume thermal expansion coefficient, heat capacity and Debye temperature – have been evaluated using ab initio calculations combined with the quasi-harmonic Debye model.  相似文献

The lattice constants, enthalpies of formation, elastic constants and electronic structures of Al-Sr intermetallics have been calculated by first-principles method within generalized gradient approximation. The calculated lattice constants and enthalpies of formation are in good agreement with experimental and other theoretical results. The polycrystalline bulk modulus, shear modulus, Young’s modulus and Poisson’s ratio are also estimated from the calculated single crystalline elastic constants. The total and partial electronic densities of state for the intermetallics were obtained, and the results indicated that Al2Sr-oI is more stable than Al2Sr-cF. Finally, longitudinal, transverse and average sound velocities and Debye temperature are estimated.  相似文献

The structural, elastic, electronic properties and Debye temperature of Ni3Ta under different pressures are investigated using the first-principles method based on density functional theory. Our calculated equilibrium lattice parameters at 0 GPa well agree with the experimental and previous theoretical results. The calculated negative formation enthalpies and elastic constants both indicate that Ni3Ta is stable under different pressures. The bulk modulus B, shear modulus G, Young’s modulus E and Poisson’s ratio ν are calculated by the Voigt–Reuss–Hill method. The bigger ratio of B/G indicates Ni3Ta is ductile and the pressure can improve the ductility of Ni3Ta. In addition, the results of density of states and the charge density difference show that the stability of Ni3Ta is improved by the increasing pressure. The Debye temperature Θ D calculated from elastic modulus increases along with the pressure.  相似文献

Using the first-principles full-potential linear muffin-tin orbital method within the local density approximation, we have studied the structural, elastic, thermodynamic, and electronic properties of the ideal-cubic perovskite BiGaO3. It is found that this compound has an indirect band gap. The valence band maximum (VBM) is located at Γ-point, whereas the conduction band minimum (CBM) is located at X-point. The pressure and volume dependences of the energy band gaps have been calculated. The elastic constants at equilibrium are also determined. We derived the bulk and shear moduli, Young’s modulus, and Poisson’s ratio. The thermodynamic properties are predicted through the quasi-harmonic Debye model, in which the lattice vibrations are taken into account. The variation of the bulk modulus, heat capacities, and Debye temperature with pressure and temperature are successfully obtained.  相似文献

The structural, electronic and elastic properties of Rb–As systems (RbAs in NaP, LiAs and AuCu structures, RbAs2 in the MgCu2 structure, Rb3 As in Na3As, Cu3 P and Li3Bi structures, and Rb5 As4 in the A5B4 structure) are investigated with the generalized gradient approximation in the frame of density functional theory. The lattice parameters, cohesive energies, formation energies, bulk moduli and the first derivatives of the bulk moduli (to fit Murnaghan’s equation of state) of the considered structures are calculated and reasonable agreement is obtained. In addition, the phase transition pressures are also predicted. The electronic band structures, the partial densities of states corresponding to the band structures and the charge density distributions are presented and analysed. The second-order elastic constants based on the stress-strain method and other related quantities such as Young’s modulus, the shear modulus, Poisson’s ratio, sound velocities, the Debye temperature and shear anisotropy factors are also estimated.  相似文献

The structural, elastic and thermodynamic properties of thorium tetraboride (ThB4) have been investigated by using first-principles plane-wave pseudopotential density functional theory with generalized gradient approximation. The behaviors of structural parameters under 0-70 GPa hydrostatic pressure are studied by means of Broyden, Fletcher, Goldfarb, and Shanno (BFGS) geometry optimization scheme. By using the stress-strain method, single crystal elastic constants are calculated to test the mechanical stability of the crystal structure and to determine mechanical properties such as bulk modulus at each pressure. However, in order to study the thermodynamic properties of ThB4, the quasi-harmonic Debye model is used. Then, the dependencies of bulk modulus, heat capacities, thermal expansions, Grüneisen parameters and Debye temperatures on the temperature and pressure are obtained in the whole pressure range 0-70 GPa and temperature range 0-1500 K.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The structural, electronic, elastic and thermodynamic properties of LuX (X = N, Bi and Sb) based on rare earth into phases, Rocksalt (B1) and CsCl (B2) have been investigated using full-potential linearized muffin-tin orbital method (FP-LMTO) within density functional theory. Local density approximation (LDA) for exchange-correlation potential and local spin density approximation (LSDA) are employed. The structural parameters as lattice parameters a0, bulk modulus B, its pressure derivate B’ and cut-off energy (Ec) within LDA and LSDA are presented. The elastic constants were derived from the stress–strain relation at 0 K. The thermodynamic properties for LuX using the quasi-harmonic Debye model are studied. The temperature and pressure variation of volume, bulk modulus, thermal expansion coefficient, heat capacities, Debye temperature and Gibbs free energy at different pressures (0–50 GPa) and temperatures (0–1600 K) are predicted. The calculated results are in accordance with other data.  相似文献

Using ab initio calculations, we have studied the structural, elastic and electronic properties of XNCa3, with X=Ge, Sn and Pb. Geometrical optimization of the unit cell are in agreement with the available experimental data. The band structures show that all studied materials are electrical conductors. The analysis of the site and momentum projected densities, charge transfer and total valence charge density shows that the chemical bonding in XNCa3 compounds is of covalent–ionic nature with the presence of metallic character. The elastic constants and their pressure dependence are calculated using the static finite strain technique. We derived the bulk, shear and Young’s moduli for ideal polycrystalline XNCa3 aggregates. By analysing the ratio between the bulk and shear moduli, we conclude that XNCa3 compounds are brittle in nature. We estimated the Debye temperature of XNCa3 from the average sound velocity.  相似文献

Numerical calculations based on the full potential muffin-tin orbitals method (FP-LMTO) within the local density approximation (LDA) and the local spin-density approximation (LSDA) to investigate the structural, electronic and thermodynamic properties of filled skutterudite EuFe4Sb12 are presented. The electronic band structure and density of states profiles prove that this material is a conductor. The present investigation is also extended to the elastic constants, such as the bulk modulus B, anisotropy factor A, shear modulus G, young's modulus E, Poisson's ratio ν, and the B/G ratio with pressure in the range of 0–40 GPa. The sound velocities and Debye temperatures are also predicted from the above constants. The variations of the primitive cell volume, expansion coefficient α, bulk modulus B, heat capacity (Cp and Cv), Debye temperature θD, Helmholtz free energy A, Gibbs free energy G, entropy S, and internal energy U with pressure and temperature in the range 0–3000 K are calculated successfully.  相似文献

Abstract

By applying ab initio calculation within density functional theory (DFT), we study the structure parameters, electronic band structure, elastic coefficients, polycrystalline elastic properties, anisotropy factors and Debye temperature of ferroelectric and paraelectric phases of LiTaO3 within the generalised gradient approximation at ambient pressure. The atomic structure in both phases is fully relaxed and the lattice constant, angle and atomic positions are well consistent with experimental values. The computed single-crystal elastic coefficients indicate that mechanical stability of LiTaO3 in both phases is confirmed using the generalised Born criteria. The shear, bulk and Young’s modulus, Poisson’s ratio, and Vickers hardness were computed according to theoretical elastic constants by Voight–Reuss–Hill method. Several anisotropy factors and indexes are computed to illustrate mechanical anisotropy. Both phases are shown to be weakly anisotropic. The Debye temperature is estimated using the longitude and transverse elastic wave velocity of the ideal polycrystalline LiTaO3 aggregates. We have found that LiTaO3 in both phases has an indirect energy band gap. The differences in the electronic structure and density of states for both phases are quite small. Our results indicate that the mechanical and bonding properties of both phases are very similar. The obtained results were compared with the available experimental and theoretical values.  相似文献

Using first-principles calculations, we predict mechanical and thermodynamic properties of both Mg17Al12 and Mg2Sn precipitates in Mg–Al–Sn alloys. The elastic properties including the polycrystalline bulk modulus, shear modulus, Young’s modulus, Lame’s coefficients and Poisson’s ratio of both Mg17Al12 and Mg2Sn phases are determined with the Voigt–Reuss–Hill approximation. Our results of equilibrium lattice constants agree closely with previous experimental and other theoretical results. The ductility and brittleness of the two phases are characterized with the estimation from Cauchy pressure and the value of B/G. Mechanical anisotropy is characterized by the anisotropic factors and direction-dependent Young’s modulus. The higher Debye temperature of Mg17Al12 phase means that it has a higher thermal conductivity and strength of chemical bonding relative to Mg2Sn. The anisotropic sound velocities also indicate the elastic anisotropies of both phase structures. Additionally, density of states and Mulliken population analysis are performed to reveal the bonding nature of both phases. The calculations associated with phonon properties indicate the dynamical stability of both phase structures. The temperature dependences of thermodynamic properties of the two phases are predicted via the quasi-harmonic approximation.  相似文献

The structural parameters, mechanical, electronic and thermodynamic properties of TE-C36 under high pressure were calculated via the density functional theory in combination with the quasi-harmonic Debye model. The results show that the pressure has significant effects on the equilibrium structure parameters, mechanical, electronic and thermodynamic properties of TE-C36. The obtained ground state structural parameters are in good agreement with previous theoretical results. The mechanically and dynamically stable under pressure were confirmed by the calculated elastic constants and phonon dispersion spectra. The elastic constants, elastic modulus, B/G ratio, Poisson’s ratio and Vicker’s hardness were determined in the pressure range of 0–100?GPa. The elastic anisotropy of TE-C36 under pressure are also determined in detail. The electronic structure calculations reveal that TE-C36 remains a direct band gap semiconductor when the pressure changes from 0 to 100?GPa, and the band gap decreases with increasing pressure. Furthermore, the pressure and temperature dependence of thermal expansion coefficient, heat capacity and Debye temperature are predicted in a wide pressure (0–90?GPa) and temperature (0–2500?K) ranges. The obtained results are expected to provide helpful guidance for the future synthesis and application of TE-C36.  相似文献

Basic physical properties, such as lattice constant, bulk modulus, second-order elastic constants (Cij), and the electronic band structures are calculated, and compared with available experimental values. We have, also, predicted the Young's modulus, Poison's ratio (ν), Anisotropy factor (A), sound velocities, and Debye temperature.  相似文献

We present first-principle calculations on the structural, elastic, and high-pressure properties of rubidium halides compounds, using the pseudo-potential plane-waves approach based on density functional theory, within the generalized gradient approximation. Results are given for lattice constant, bulk modulus and its pressure derivative. The pressure transition at which these compounds undergo structural phase transition from NaCl-type to CsCl-type structure are calculated and compared with previous calculations and available experimental data. The elastic constants and their pressure dependence are calculated using the static finite strain technique. We derived the bulk and shear moduli, Young's modulus and Poisson's ratio for ideal polycrystalline RbF, RbCl, RbBr, and RbI aggregates. We estimated the Debye temperature of these compounds from the average sound velocity.  相似文献

The structural, mechanical, electronic and optical properties of orthorhombic PtSi and PtGe were investigated using norm-conserving pseudopotentials within the local density approximation in the frame of density functional theory. The calculated lattice parameters and bulk modulus for PtSi and PtGe have been compared with the experimental and theoretical values. The second-order elastic constants were calculated, and the other related quantities such as the Young's modulus, shear modulus, Poisson's ratio, anisotropy factor, sound velocities and Debye temperature have also been estimated. The linear photon-energy dependent dielectric functions and some optical properties such as the energy-loss function, the effective number of valance electrons and the effective optical dielectric constant were calculated. Our structural estimation and some other results are in agreement with the available experimental and theoretical data.  相似文献

The structure, elastic properties and elastic anisotropy of orthorhombic OsB2 are investigated by density functional theory method with the ultrasoft pseudopotential scheme in the frame of the generalized gradient approximation (GGA) as well as local density approximation (LDA). The obtained structural parameters, elastic constants, elastic anisotropy and Debye temperature for OsB2 under pressure are consistent with the available experimental data and other theoretical results. It is found that the elastic constants, bulk modulus and Debye temperature of OsB2 tend to increase with increasing pressure. It is predicted that OsB2 is not a superhard material from our calculations.  相似文献
