In this contribution, we reported a facile synthesis of poly(methyl methacrylate)‐block‐poly(N‐vinyl pyrrolidone) (PMMA‐b‐PVPy) diblock copolymers via sequential radical polymerizations mediated by isopropylxanthic disulfide (DIP). It was found that the radical polymerization of N‐vinyl pyrrolidone (NVP) mediated by DIP was in a controlled and living manner. In contrast, the polymerization of methyl methacrylate mediated by DIP displayed the behavior of telomerization, affording xanthate‐terminated PMMA with a good control of molecular weights while the conversion of monomer was not very high. The xanthate‐terminated PMMA can be successfully used as the macromolecular chain transfer agent for the polymerization of NVP via RAFT/MADIX process and thus PMMA‐b‐PVPy diblock copolymers can be successfully synthesized via sequential radical polymerization mediated by isopropylxanthic disulfide. One of these diblock copolymers was incorporated into polybenzoxazine and the nanostructured thermosets were obtained as evidenced by transmission electron microscopy, small angle X‐ray scattering, and dynamic mechanical thermal analysis. The formation of nanostructures in polybenzoxazine thermosets was ascribed to a reaction‐induced microphase separation mechanism. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. Polyethersulfone (PES) membrane, one of the most important polymeric materials because of its good chemical resistance, thermal stability, mechanical, and film‐forming properties, has already been used in hemodialysis, tissue engineering, and artificial organs. In order to improve the blood compatibility of PES membrane, many amphiphilic block copolymers have been synthesized and used as additives for surface modification. The object of this study is to develop a hydrophilic PES membrane by blending a comblike amphiphilic block copolymer poly (vinyl pyrrolidone)‐block‐poly [acrylate‐graft‐poly (methyl methacrylate)]‐block‐poly‐(vinyl pyrrolidone) [PVP‐b‐P (AE‐g‐PMMA)‐b‐PVP] synthesized by RAFT polymerization. The cytocompatibility performance of PVP‐b‐P (AE‐g‐PMMA)‐b‐PVP modified PES membrane was evaluated, which showed better cytocompatibility compared with that of pristine PES membrane. Endothelial cells cultured on the modified membranes present improved growth in terms of scanning electron microscope observation, MTT assay, and confocal laser scanning microscope observation. These results indicate that the modified membrane has great potential application in blood‐contact fields such as hemodialysis and bio‐artificial liver supports. A series of well‐defined triblock copolymers, poly(N, N‐dimethylacrylamide)‐block‐poly(ethylene oxide)‐block‐poly(N, N‐dimethylacrylamide) (PDMA‐b‐PEO‐b‐PDMA) synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization, were used as physical coatings for protein separation. A comparative study of EOF showed that the triblock copolymer presented good capillary coating ability and EOF efficient suppression. The effects of the Mr of PDMA block in PDMA‐b‐PEO‐b‐PDMA triblock copolymer and buffer pH on the separation of basic protein for CE were investigated. Moreover, the influence of the copolymer structure on separation of basic protein was studied by comparing the performance of PDMA‐b‐PEO‐b‐PDMA triblock copolymer with PEO‐b‐PDMA diblock copolymer. Furthermore, the triblock copolymer coating showed higher separation efficiency and better migration time repeatability than fused‐silica capillary when used in protein mixture separation and milk powder samples separation, respectively. The results demonstrated that the triblock copolymer coatings would have a wide application in the field of protein separation.  相似文献

The reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization of N‐vinylcarbazole (NVK) mediated by macromolecular xanthates was used to prepare three types of block copolymers containing poly(N‐vinylcarbazole) (PVK). Using a poly(ethylene glycol) monomethyl ether based xanthate ( PEG‐X ), the RAFT polymerization of NVK proceeded in a controlled way to afford a series of PEG‐b‐PVK with different PVK chain lengths. Successive RAFT polymerization of NVK and vinyl acetate (VAc) with a small molecule xanthate ( X1 ) as the chain transfer agent was tested to prepare PVK‐b‐PVAc. Though both monomers can be homopolymerized in a controlled manner with this xanthate, only by polymerizing NVK first could give well‐defined block copolymers. The xanthate groups in the end of PVK could be removed by radical‐induced reduction using tributylstannane, and PVK‐b‐PVA was obtained by further hydrolysis of PVK‐b‐PVAc under basic conditions. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Polystyrene‐block‐poly(2‐vinyl pyridine)‐block‐poly(methyl methacrylate) ABC triblock copolymers were synthesized by sequential living anionic polymerization. Their solution properties were investigated in toluene, which is a bad solvent for the middle block. Spherical micelles are formed, which consist of a poly(2‐vinyl pyridine) dense core bearing polystyrene and poly(methyl methacrylate) soluble chains at the corona. These micelles exhibit the architecture of heteroarm star copolymers obtained by “living” polymerization methods. The aggregation numbers strongly depend on the length of the insoluble P2VP middle block, thus remarkably affecting the size of the micelles.  相似文献

Poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide)‐block‐poly(ethylene oxide)‐block‐poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAAm‐b‐PEO‐b‐PNIPAAm) triblock copolymer was synthesized via the reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer/macromolecular design via the interchange of xanthate (RAFT/MADIX) process with xanthate‐terminated poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) as the macromolecular chain transfer agent. The successful synthesis of the ABA triblock copolymer inspired the preparation of poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide)‐block‐poly(ethylene oxide) (PNIPAAm‐b‐PEO) copolymer networks with N,N′‐methylenebisacrylamide as the crosslinking agent with the similar approach. With the RAFT/MADIX process, PEO chains were successfully blocked into poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAAm) networks. The unique architecture of PNIPAAm‐b‐PEO networks allows investigating the effect of the blocked PEO chains on the deswelling and reswelling behavior of PNIPAAm hydrogels. It was found that with the inclusion of PEO chains into the PNIPAAm networks as midblocks, the swelling ratios of the hydrogels were significantly enhanced. Furthermore, the PNIPAAm‐b‐PEO hydrogels displayed faster response to the external temperature changes than the control PNIPAAm hydrogel. The accelerated deswelling and reswelling behaviors have been interpreted based on the formation of PEO microdomains in the PNIPAAm networks, which could act as the hydrophilic tunnels to facilitate the diffusion of water molecules in the PNIPAAm networks. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Novel rod–coil–rod ABA triblock copolymers, poly(3‐hexylthiophene)‐block‐poly(ethylene)‐block‐poly(3‐hexylthiophene) (P3HT‐b‐PE‐b‐P3HT) were synthesized by using a combination of a Ru‐catalyzed ring‐opening metathesis polymerization of 1,4‐cyclooctadiene in the presence of a suitable chain transfer agent (CTA) and a Ni‐catalyzed Grignard metathesis polymerization of 5‐chloromagnesio‐2‐bromo‐3‐hexylthiophene followed by hydrogenation. Using this methodology, the molecular weights of the poly(butadiene) (PBD) or the P3HT blocks were controlled by adjusting the initial monomer/CTA or the initial monomer/macroinitiator ratio, respectively. In addition, the triblock structure was confirmed by selective oxidative degradation of the PBD block found in the intermediate P3HT‐b‐PBD‐b‐P3HT copolymer produced in the aforementioned method, followed by analysis of the degradation products. Thermal analysis and atomic force microscopy of P3HT‐b‐PE‐b‐P3HT revealed that the material underwent phase separation in the solid state, a feature which may prove useful for improving charge mobilities within electronic devices. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The synthesis of poly(tert‐butyl acrylate‐block‐vinyl acetate) copolymers using a combination of two living radical polymerization techniques, atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) and reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization, is reported. The use of two methods is due to the disparity in reactivity of the two monomers, viz. vinyl acetate is difficult to polymerize via ATRP, and a suitable RAFT agent that can control the polymerization of vinyl acetate is typically unable to control the polymerization of tert‐butyl acrylate. Thus, ATRP was performed to make poly(tert‐butyl acrylate) containing a bromine end group. This end group was subsequently substituted with a xanthate moiety. Various spectroscopic methods were used to confirm the substitution. The poly(tert‐butyl acrylate) macro‐RAFT agent was then used to produce (tert‐butyl acrylate‐block‐vinyl acetate). © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This work is devoted to the design of a novel family of hydrosoluble biomaterials: poly(N‐vinyl‐2‐pyrrolidone) (PVP)‐based graft copolymers. A synthesis route has been elaborated in which ω‐functionalized PVP is prepared via chain‐transfer radical polymerization, end‐group modified, and subsequently grafted onto a polyhydroxylated backbone, typically dextran or poly(vinyl alcohol). The resulting graft copolymer biomaterials are designed for use in various biomedical applications, particularly as materials with a stronger potential for plasma expansion than already existing products have. The graft copolymers are potentially degradable because the PVP grafts are connected to the polyol backbone via a hydrolytically labile carbonate or ester linkage. The degradation of the graft copolymers was performed in vitro over a period of 6 weeks. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 40: 3652–3661, 2002  相似文献

Well‐defined poly(vinyl acetate) macroinitiators, with the chains thus end‐capped by a cobalt complex, were synthesized by cobalt‐mediated radical polymerization and used to initiate styrene polymerization at 30 °C. Although the polymerization of the second block was not controlled, poly(vinyl acetate)‐b‐polystyrene copolymers were successfully prepared and converted into amphiphilic poly(vinyl alcohol)‐b‐polystyrene copolymers by the methanolysis of the ester functions of the poly(vinyl acetate) block. These poly(vinyl alcohol)‐b‐polystyrene copolymers self‐associated in water with the formation of nanocups, at least when the poly(vinyl alcohol) content was low enough. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Novel thermo‐responsive poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide)‐block‐poly(l ‐lactide)‐block‐poly(N‐isopropylacylamide) (PNIPAAm‐b‐PLLA‐b‐PNIPAAm) triblock copolymers were successfully prepared by atom transfer radical polymerization of NIPAAm with Br‐PLLA‐Br macroinitiator, using a CuCl/tris(2‐dimethylaminoethyl) amine (Me6TREN) complex as catalyst at 25 °C in a N,N‐dimethylformamide/water mixture. The molecular weight of the copolymers ranges from 18,000 to 38,000 g mol?1, and the dispersity from 1.10 to 1.28. Micelles are formed by self‐assembly of copolymers in aqueous medium at room temperature, as evidenced by 1H NMR, dynamic light scattering (DLS) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The critical micelle concentration determined by fluorescence spectroscopy ranges from 0.0077 to 0.016 mg mL?1. 1H NMR analysis in selective solvents confirmed the core‐shell structure of micelles. The copolymers exhibit a lower critical solution temperature (LCST) between 32.1 and 32.8 °C. The micelles are spherical in shape with a mean diameter between 31.4 and 83.3 nm, as determined by TEM and DLS. When the temperature is raised above the LCST, micelle size increases at high copolymer concentrations due to aggregation. In contrast, at low copolymer concentrations, decrease of micelle size is observed due to collapse of PNIPAAm chains. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. This paper aims to report the fabrication of biodegradable thin films with micro‐domains of cylindrical nanochannels through the solvent‐induced microphase separation of poly(L ‐lactide)‐block‐poly(ethylene glycol)‐block‐poly(L ‐lactide) (PLA‐b‐PEG‐b‐PLA) triblock copolymers with different block ratios. In our experimental scope, an increase in each of the block lengths of the PLA and PEG blocks led to both a variation in the average number density (146 to 32 per 100 µm2) and the size of the micro‐domains (140 to 427 nm). Analyses by atomic force microscopy (AFM) and fluorescence microscopy indicated that the hydrophilic PEG nanochannels were dispersed in the PLA matrix of the PLA‐b‐PEG‐b‐PLA films. We demonstrated that the micro‐domain morphology could be controlled not only by the block length of PEG, but also by the solvent evaporation conditions.

An amphiphilic block copolymer of poly(N‐vinyl pyrrolidone)‐b‐poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PVP‐b‐PCL) was synthesized by a combination of cobalt‐mediated radical polymerization (CMRP) and ring‐opening polymerization (ROP). The micellar characteristics of this copolymer were subsequently investigated. PVP (Mn = 11,400, Mw/Mn = 1.32) was synthesized at 20 °C via CMRP using a molar ratio of [VP]0/[V‐70]0/[Co]0 = 150/8/1. The PVP was then reacted with 2,2′‐azobis[2‐methyl‐N‐(2‐hydroxyethyl)propionamide] (VA‐086) to modify its cobalt complex chain end to a hydroxyl group. The cobalt (Co) content in the resulting PVP‐OH was 1.2 ppm, indicating that all of the covalent Co? C bonds were cleaved and reacted with VA‐086, and that the separated cobalt complexes were successfully removed. The ROP of CL was subsequently carried out using the produced PVP‐OH as a macroinitiator at 110 °C. The GPC trace of PVP‐b‐PCL was monomodal without any tailing caused by the residual PVP‐OH, indicating that the initiation efficiency was very high. The critical micelle concentration (CMC) of PVP‐b‐PCL (Mn = 18,000, Mw/Mn = 1.35) was 0.015 mg/mL. The PVP‐b‐PCL micelles were spherical in shape with an average diameter of 105 nm. The nanosized PVP‐b‐PCL micelles show promise as novel drug carriers in biomedical and pharmaceutical applications. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of amphiphilic graft copolymers consisting of poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) main chains and poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP) side chains, i.e. PVC‐g‐PVP, was synthesized via atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP), as confirmed by 1H NMR, FT‐IR spectroscopy, and gel permeation chromatography (GPC). Transmission electron microscope (TEM) and small angle X‐ray scattering (SAXS) analysis revealed the microphase‐separated structure of PVC‐g‐PVP and the domain spacing increased from 21.4 to 23.9 nm with increasing grafting degree. All the membranes exhibited completely amorphous structure and high Young's modulus and tensile strength, as revealed by wide angle X‐ray scattering (WAXS) and universal testing machine (UTM). Permeation experimental results using a CO2/N2 (50/50) mixture indicated that as an amount of PVP in a copolymer increased, CO2 permeability increased without the sacrifice of selectivity. For example, the CO2 permeability of PVC‐g‐PVP with 36 wt% of PVP at 35°C was about four times higher than that of the pristine PVC membrane. This improvement resulted from the increase of diffusivity due to the disruption of chain packing in PVC by the grafting of PVP, as confirmed by WAXS analysis. An original approach based on coupling methodology was used to prepare novel well‐defined ABA triblock copolymers, made of polyester‐type chain ends (A) associated with a polyacrylate midblock (B). Poly(ethylene terephthalate)‐block‐poly(lauryl acrylate)‐block‐poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET‐b‐PLAc‐b‐PET) copolymers were achieved from poly(ethylene terephthalate)‐b‐poly(lauryl acrylate) (PET‐b‐PLAc) diblock ones. The first step consisted in the synthesis of diblock copolymers by atom transfer radical polymerization of lauryl acrylate starting from PET segment as a macroinitiator. In the second step, the coupling of diblock copolymers was achieved using four different methods, which were evaluated and compared: atom transfer radical coupling, “click” chemistry using the Huisgen's reaction, and coupling via a dithiol reagent or a diisocyanate molecule. Coupling using the Huisgen's reaction or a diisocyanate spacer proved to be the most efficient techniques. Even if these methods showed limitation and were only adapted for copolymers with low molecular weights, we managed to successfully prepare ABA triblock copolymers involving a polyester segment as end blocks and a polyacrylate moiety as midblock. To our knowledge, such kind of chemical structure has never been reported before and would be useful, possibly affording physical networks leading to rheological modification, for instance. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of well‐defined amphiphilic triblock copolymers [polyethylene glycol monomethyl ether]‐block‐poly(ε‐caprolactone)‐block‐poly[2‐(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate] (mPEG‐b‐PCL‐b‐PDMAEMA or abbreviated as mPEG‐b‐PCL‐b‐PDMA) were prepared by a combination of ring‐opening polymerization and atom transfer radical polymerization. The chemical structures and compositions of these copolymers have been characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, 1H NMR, and thermogravimetric analysis. The molecular weights of the triblock copolymers were obtained by calculating from 1H NMR spectra and gel permeation chromatography measurements. Subsequently, the self‐assembly behavior of these copolymers was investigated by fluorescence probe method and transmission electron microscopy, which indicated that these amphiphilic triblock copolymers possess distinct pH‐dependent critical aggregation concentrations and can self‐assemble into micelles or vesicles in PBS buffer solution, depending on the length of PDMA in the copolymer. Agarose gel retardation assays demonstrated that these cationic nanoparticles can effectively condense plasmid DNA. Cell toxicity tests indicated that these triblock copolymers displayed lower cytotoxicity than that of branched polyethylenimine with molecular weight of 25 kDa. In addition, in vitro release of Naproxen from these nanoparticles in pH buffer solutions was conducted, demonstrating that higher PCL content would result in the higher drug loading content and lower release rate. These biodegradable and biocompatible cationic copolymers have potential applications in drug and gene delivery. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Blends of poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) with Poly(N‐vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP) were investigated by Fourier infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and high‐resolution solid‐state 13C cross‐polarization/magic angle spinning (CP/MAS) nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. The intermolecular interactions between PVP and PVC are weaker than the self‐association of PVP and the inclusion of the miscible PVC results in the decreased self‐association of PVP chains, which was evidenced by the observation of high‐frequency shift of amide stretching vibration bands of PVP with inclusion of PVC. This result was further substantiated by the study of 13C CP/MAS spectra, in which the chemical shift of carbonyl resonance of PVP was observed to shift to a high field with inclusion of PVC, indicating that the magnetic shielding of the carbonyl carbon nucleus is increased. The proton spin‐lattice relaxation time in the laboratory frame (T1 (H)) and the proton spin‐lattice relaxation time in the rotating frame (T(H)) were measured as a function of the blend composition to give the information about phase structure. It is concluded that the PVC and PVP chains are intimately mixed on the scale of 20–30Å. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci B: Polym Phys 37: 2412–2419, 1999  相似文献

The triblock copolymer poly(ϵ‐caprolactone)‐block‐poly[(methyl methacrylate)‐co‐styrene]‐block‐poly(ϵ‐caprolactone) was synthesized by a combination of coordination polymerization and controlled radical mechanism. The poly(ϵ‐caprolactone) prepolymers (PCLBP) were first obtained by coordination polymerization using benzopinacol as the initiator and aluminium triisopropoxide as the promoter at room temperature. It was determined by means of UV and NMR spectroscopy that the benzopinacolate groups are left intact in the PCLBP prepolymers; no isomerization was found. The benzopinacolate groups incorporated into the poly(ϵ‐caprolactone) then initiate the copolymerization of styrene (St) and methyl methacrylate (MMA) via a controlled radical mechanism at 95°C. The desired block copolymers were characterized by GPC, IR, UV and NMR spectroscopy in detail.  相似文献

We report on novel diblock copolymers of poly(N‐vinylcaprolactam) (PVCL) and poly(N‐vinyl‐2‐pyrrolidone) (PVPON) (PVCL‐b‐PVPON) with well‐defined block lengths synthesized by the MADIX/reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) process. We show that the lower critical solution temperatures (LCST) of the block copolymers are controllable over the length of PVCL and PVPON segments. All of the diblock copolymers dissolve molecularly in aqueous solutions when the temperature is below the LCST and form spherical micellar or vesicular morphologies when temperature is raised above the LCST. The size of the self‐assembled structures is controlled by the molar ratio of PVCL and PVPON segments. The synthesized homopolymers and diblock copolymers are demonstrated to be nontoxic at 0.1–1 mg mL?1 concentrations when incubated with HeLa and HEK293 cancer cells for various incubation times and have potential as nanovehicles for drug delivery. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Thermo‐responsive block copolymers based on poly(N‐vinylcaprolactam) (PNVCL) have been prepared by cobalt‐mediated radical polymerization (CMRP) for the first time. The homopolymerization of NVCL was controlled by bis(acetylacetonato)cobalt(II) and a molecular weight as high as 46,000 g/mol could be reached with a low polydispersity. The polymerization of NVCL was also initiated from a poly(vinyl acetate)‐Co(acac)2 (PVAc‐Co(acac)2) macroinitiator to yield well‐defined PVAc‐b‐PNVCL block copolymers with a low polydispersity (Mw/Mn = 1.1) up to high molecular weights (Mn = 87,000 g/mol), which constitutes a significant improvement over other techniques. The amphiphilic PVAc‐b‐PNVCL copolymers were hydrolyzed into unprecedented double hydrophilic poly(vinyl alcohol)‐b‐PNVCL (PVOH‐b‐PNVCL) copolymers and their temperature‐dependent solution behavior was studied by turbidimetry and dynamic light scattering. Finally, the so‐called cobalt‐mediated radical coupling (CMRC) reaction was implemented to PVAc‐b‐PNVCL‐Co(acac)2 precursors to yield novel PVAc‐b‐PNVCL‐b‐PVAc symmetrical triblock copolymers. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
