Steady-state linear optical properties and Kerr nonlinear optical response of a four-level quantum dot with phonon-assisted transition

The linear optical properties and Kerr nonlinear optical response in a four-level loop configuration Ga As/Al Ga As semiconductor quantum dot are analytically studied with the phonon-assisted transition(PAT). It is shown that the changes among a single electromagnetically induced transparency(EIT) window, a double EIT window and the amplification of the probe field in the absorption curves can be controlled by varying the strength of PAT κ. Meanwhile, double switching from the anomalous dispersion regime to the normal dispersion regime can likely be achieved by increasing the Rabi energy of the external optical control field. Furthermore, we demonstrate that the group velocity of the probe field can be practically regulated by varying the PAT and the intensity of the optical control field. In the nonlinear case, it is shown that the large SPM and XPM can be achieved as linear absorption vanishes simultaneously, and the PAT can suppress both third-order self-Kerr and the cross-Kerr nonlinear effect of the QD. Our study is much more practical than its atomic counterpart due to its flexible design and the controllable interference strength, and may provide some new possibilities for technological applications. 相似文献

The dressed four-wave mixing (FWM) in a four-level S5Rb atomic system, experimentally demon- strated in this paper, is comprised by two coexisting processes. One is emission signal due to enhanced nonlinear via electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT). The other is the Bragg reflection of probe beam because of the created photonic band gap (PBG), which is affected by both linear and third-order nonlinear susceptibility. Moreover, we have demonstrated that different experimental parameters can significantly influence the measured signal with flexibly controlled PBG. These studies are found useful for understanding the fundamental mechanisms in generated FWM processing. 相似文献

We present a theoretical study of electromagnetically induced transparency(EIT) in a superconducting quantum circuit with a tunable V-shaped energy spectrum derived from two superconducting Josephson charge qubits coupled with each other through a superconducting quantum interference device. Using the density matrix formalism and the steady-state approximation, we obtain the analytical expressions of the first-order matrix element associated with the absorption and dispersion of the probe field for two different V-type schemes. Our results show that, for this superconducting quantum system, it is possible to realize a remarkable phenomenon that dynamic conversion between EIT and EIT with amplification without population inversion. Such a unique optical feature has potential applications in quantum optical devices and quantum information processing. 相似文献

Autler-Townes splitting (ATS) and electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) both yield transparency in an absorption profile, but only EIT yields strong transparency for a weak pump field due to Fano interference. Empirically discriminating EIT from ATS is important but so far has been subjective. We introduce an objective method, based on Akaike's information criterion, to test ATS vs EIT from experimental data for three-level atomic systems and determine which pertains. We apply our method to a recently reported induced-transparency experiment in superconducting-circuit quantum electrodynamics. 相似文献

We report an experimental observation of nonlinear optical gain and loss assisted by electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) and simultaneous superluminal and subluminal light propagations. Two circular components of a linearly polarized light initiate third-order nonlinear processes in which one circular component is attenuated while the other component is amplified in a three-level EIT system. Near the atomic resonance, the attenuated circular component experiences steep normal dispersion and propagates with a slow group velocity, while the amplified circular component experiences steep anomalous dispersion and propagates with a superluminal group velocity. 相似文献

We study the electromagnetically-induced transparency(EIT)in a Doppler-broadened cascaded three-level system.We decompose the susceptibility responsible for the EIT resonance into a linear and a nonlinear part,and the EIT resonance reflects mainly the characteristics of the nonlinear susceptibility.It is found that the macroscopic polarization interference effect plays a crucial role in determining the EIT resonance spectrum.To obtain a Doppler-free spectrum there must be polarization interference between atoms of different velocities.A dressed-state model,which analyzes the velocities at which the atoms are in resonance with the dressed states through Doppler frequency shifting,is employed to explain the results. 相似文献

We present a scheme for the quantum storage of single photons using electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) in a low-finesse optical cavity, assisted by state-selected spontaneous atomic emission. Mediated by the dark mode of cavity EIT, the destructive quantum interference between the cavity input-output channel and state-selected atomic spontaneous emission leads to strong absorption of single photons with unknown arrival time and pulse shapes. The linewidth of electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) in a coated Rb vapor cell was studied under a magnetic field gradient. The nonlinear broadening of the EIT linewidth with the magnetic field gradient was observed. It was found that the motional averaging of the field gradient was more pronounced at higher laser intensities and larger beam sizes. In the same regime, there was a small linewidth decrease with the increasing magnetic field gradient. We have established a Monte-Carlo model, which gave results in good qualitative agreement with our experiment. Physics pictures for the above phenomena were also suggested. These results provide an understanding of the EIT linewidth behavior under the motional averaging, and should be useful for applications in quantum optics and metrology based on coated vapor cells. 相似文献

Tunable negative refraction without absorption via electromagnetically induced chirality 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
We show that negative refraction with minimal absorption can be obtained by means of quantum interference effects similar to electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT). Coupling a magnetic dipole transition coherently with an electric dipole transition leads to electromagnetically induced chirality, which can provide negative refraction without requiring negative permeability and also suppress absorption. This technique allows negative refraction in the optical regime at densities where the magnetic susceptibility is still small and with refraction/absorption ratios that are orders of magnitude larger than those achievable previously. Furthermore, the refractive index can be fine-tuned, which is essential for practical realization of subdiffraction-limit imaging. As with EIT, electromagnetically induced chirality should be applicable to a wide range of systems. 相似文献

In this paper, we have analysed in detail the quantum interference of the degenerate narrowband two-photon state by using a Mach-Zehnder interferometer, in which an electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) medium is placed in one of two interfering beams. Our results clearly show that it is possible to coherently keep the quantum state at a single photon level in the EIT process, especially when the transparent window of the EIT medium is much larger than the bandwidth of the single photon. This shows that the EIT medium is possibly a kind of memory or repeater for the narrowband photons in the areas of quantum communication and quantum computer. The phenomenon of electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) is investigated in a Λ-system of the 87Rb D 1 line in an external transverse magnetic field. Two spectroscopic cells having strongly different values of the relaxation rates γrel are used: an Rb cell with antirelaxation coating (L ~ 1 cm) and an Rb nanometric- thin cell (nanocell) with a thickness of the atomic vapor column L = 795 nm. For the EIT in the nanocell, we have the usual EIT resonances characterized by a reduction in the absorption (dark resonance (DR)), whereas for the EIT in the Rb cell with an antirelaxation coating, the resonances demonstrate an increase in the absorption (bright resonances (BR)). We suppose that such an unusual behavior of the EIT resonances (i.e., the reversal of the sign from DR to BR) is caused by the influence of an alignment process. The influence of alignment strongly depends on the configuration of the coupling and probe frequencies as well as on the configuration of the magnetic field. 相似文献

We report the experimental observation of electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) in a Doppler broadened rubidium vapour
at room temperature for different probe intensities at a fixed pump intensity in a five-level Λ-type system formed by the
D2 transition of 85Rb. For a constant pump intensity, we find that the EIT width and height change with the variation of probe intensity. We
observe a nonlinear variation of the height of the EIT peak and a linear variation of the width (FWHM) of the EIT signal with
probe intensity. In the Doppler broadened multilevel system, we also observe the velocity selective dips along with the EIT
signal. A numerical simulation of the probe response signal based on density matrix representation in a five-level system

We develop a classical model of the parametric effect of electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) within the line of resonance absorption of an electromagnetic wave in the medium--an effect initially discovered for a quantum three-level system. On the basis of this model, the EIT effect for electromagnetic waves at frequencies of the electron-cyclotron resonance in a cold plasma is considered.
