Particle fluctuation and gas turbulence in dense gas-particle flows are less studied due to complexity of the phenomena. In the present study, simulations of gas turbulent flows passing over a single particle are carried out first by using RANS modeling with a Reynolds stress equation turbulence model and sufficiently fine grids, and then by using LES. The turbulence enhancement by the particle wake effect is studied under various particle sizes and relative gas velocities, and the turbulence enhancement is found proportional to the particle diameter and the square of velocity. Based on the above results, a turbulence enhancement model for the particle-wake effect is proposed and is incorporated as a sub-model into a comprehensive two-phase flow model, which is then used to simulate dilute gas-particle flows in a horizontal channel. The simulation results show that the predicted gas turbulence by using the present model accounting for the particle wake effect is obviously in better agreement with the experimental results than the prediction given by the model not accounting for the wake effect. Finally, the proposed model is incorporated into another two-phase flow model to simulate dense gasparticle flows in a downer. The results show that the particle wake effect not only enhances the gas turbulence, but also amplifies the particle fluctuation.  相似文献

The two-fluid model is widely adopted in simulations of dense gas-particle flows in engineering facili- ties. Present two-phase turbulence models for two-fluid modeling are isotropic. However, turbulence in actual gas-particle flows is not isotropic. Moreover, in these models the two-phase velocity correlation is closed using dimensional analysis, leading to discrepancies between the numerical results, theoretical analysis and experiments. To rectify this problem, some two-phase turbulence models were proposed by the authors and are applied to simulate dense gas-particle flows in downers, risers, and horizontal channels; Experimental results validate the simulation results. Among these models the USM-O and the two-scale USM models are shown to give a better account of both anisotropic particle turbulence and particle-particle collision using the transport equation model for the two-phase velocity correlation.  相似文献

An improved drag force coefficient of gas-particle interaction based on the traditional Wen’s 1966 model is proposed. In this model, a two-stage continuous function is used to correct the discontinuous switch when porosity less than 0.2. Using this proposed correlation and the Wen’s 1966 model, a gas-particle kinetic energy and particle temperature model is developed to predict the hydrodynamic characteristics in backward-facing step gas-particle two-phase turbulent flows. Numerically results showed that they are in good agreement with experiment measurements and presented model are better due to a improvement of momentum transport between gas and particle phases. Particle dispersions take on the distinctively anisotropic behaviors at every directions and gas phase fluctuation velocity are about twice larger than particle phases. Particle phase has a unique transportation mechanism and completely different from the gas phase due to different density. Furthermore, the correlation values of axial–axial gas-particle are always greater than the radial–radial values at fully flow regions. The gas-particle two-phase interactions will make influence on two-phase turbulent flow behaviors.  相似文献

Particle/droplet/bubble fluctuation and dispersion are important to mixing, heat and mass transfer, combustion and pollutant formation in dispersed multiphase flows, but are insufficiently studied before the 90 years of the last century. In this paper, the present author reports his systematic studies within nearly 20 years on two-phase turbulence in dispersed multiphase flows, including particle fluctuation in dilute gas-particle and bubble-liquid flows, particle-wall collision effect, coexistence of particle turbulence and inter-particle collisions, fluid turbulence modulation due to the particle wake effect and validation of the two-fluid RANS modeling using large-eddy simulation.  相似文献

A modified cold gas-dynamic spray technique is under development by using shock tunnel technology, which can enhance the coating quality by increasing the solid particle velocity up to 1,500 m/s. The particle diameter typically amounts to 10 μm. A theoretical model based on gas-particle flows is employed to describe the behaviour of the flow and the solid particles. This quasi-1D model is capable to consider non-equilibrium effects of the gas phase due to high reservoir temperatures, and the influence of wall friction and heat transfer averaged over the nozzle cross section. This model is used for the design and optimization of the nozzle geometry by a parametric study, which results in a conical nozzle with a half opening angle of 2.8° and a length of 325 mm. Particles for coating are injected at about 55 mm downstream of the throat. A shock tunnel facility has been set up at the Shock Wave Laboratory for performing an experimental study of this new technique. The theoretical performance of this setup is evaluated by the KASIMIR simulation software and the quasi-1D method described in this paper. The high reservoir conditions required to achieve particle velocities of 1,500 m/s can be realized by using either a very high driver pressure of about 600 bar for air as driver gas or a relatively low driver pressure of about 200 bar for helium as driver gas.   相似文献

The laser Doppler velocimeter (LDV) measures the velocity distribution of particles which is often an acceptable representation of the distribution of gas velocities. However, in turbulent two stream mixing flows, the particle velocity distribution will differ from the gas velocity distribution when the particle densities in the two streams are unequal. This bias is explored in a reacting and nonreacting turbulent jet which is surrounded by coflowing air. By adding seed particles to only the coflow air and then to only the jet fluid, the limits of this bias are established. Additional measurements with an LDV triggered laser Raman scattering system demonstrate that the bias in the LDV sampling is propagated to the Raman measurements. An analytical equation is presented which will generate unbiased velocity and scalar distributions from measurements obtained from seeding only one stream at a time.  相似文献

This paper presents a review of authors' collective works in the field of two-phase flow modeling done in the past few decades. The paper is aimed at the construction of mathematical models for simulation of particle-laden turbulent flows. A kinetic equation was obtained for the probability density function (PDF) of the particle velocity distribution in turbulent flows. The proposed kinetic equation describes both the interaction of particles with turbulent eddies of the carrier phase and particle-particle collisions. This PDF equation is used for the derivation of different schemes describing turbulent momentum transfer in the dispersed particle phase. The turbulent characteristics of the gaseous phase are calculated on the basis of the k - turbulence model with a modulation effect of particles on the turbulence.

The constructed models have been applied to the calculation of various two-phase gas-particle turbulent flows in jets and channels as well as particle deposition in tubes and separators. For validating the theoretical and numerical results, a wide range of comparisons with experimental data from Russian and foreign sources has been done.  相似文献

A synthetic turbulence generation (STG) method for subsonic and supersonic flows at low and moderate Reynolds numbers to provide inflow distributions of zonal Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes (RANS) – large-eddy simulation (LES) methods is presented. The STG method splits the LES inflow region into three planes where a local velocity signal is decomposed from the turbulent flow properties of the upstream RANS solution. Based on the wall-normal position and the local flow Reynolds number, specific length and velocity scales with different vorticity content are imposed at the inlet plane of the boundary layer. The quality of the STG method for incompressible and compressible zero-pressure gradient boundary layers is shown by comparing the zonal RANS–LES data with pure LES, pure RANS, and direct numerical simulation (DNS) solutions. The distributions of the time and spanwise wall-shear stress, Reynolds stress distributions, and two point correlations of the zonal RANS–LES simulations are smooth in the transition region and in good agreement with the pure LES and reference DNS findings. The STG approach reduces the RANS-to-LES transition length to less than four boundary-layer thicknesses.  相似文献

The structure of particle-laden,underexpanded free jets   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
M. Sommerfeld 《Shock Waves》1994,3(4):299-311
Underexpanded, supersonic gas-particle jets were experimentally studied using the shadowgraph technique in order to examine the influence of the dispersed particles on the shape of the free jet and the structure of the imbedded shock waves. The particle mass loading at the nozzle exit was varied between zero and one, and two sizes of particles (i.e. spherical glass beads) with mean number diameters of 26 and 45 m were used. It was found that the Mach-disc moves upstream towards the orifice with increasing particle loading. The laser light sheet technique was also used to visualize the particle concentration distribution within the particle jet and the spreading rate of the particle jet. Furthermore, the particle velocity along the jet centerline was measured with a modified laser-Doppler anemometer. These measurements revealed that the particles move considerably slower than the gas flow at the nozzle exit. This is mainly the result of the particle inertia, whereby the particles are not accelerated to sonic speed in the converging part of the nozzle. In order to further explore the particle behavior in the free jet, numerical studies were performed by a combined Eulerian/Lagrangian approach for the gas and particle phases, including full coupling between the two phases. The numerical results showed that the application of different particle velocities at the nozzle exit as the inlet conditions, which were below the sonic speed of the gas phase has a significant influence on the free jet shape and the configuration of the shock waves. These results demonstrate that the assumption of equilibrium flow (i.e. zero slip between the phases) at the nozzle exit which has been applied in most of the previous numerical studies is not justified in most cases. Furthermore, the numerical calculations of the free jet shape and the particle velocity along the jet axis were compared with the measurements. Although correlations for rarefaction and compressibility effects in the drag coefficient were taken into account, the particle velocity along the center line was considerably overpredicted. This article was processed using Springer-Verlag TEX Shock Waves macro package 1.0 and the AMS fonts, developed by the American Mathematical Society.  相似文献

This review presents the state of the art of hybrid RANS/LES modeling for the simulation of turbulent flows. After recalling the modeling used in RANS and LES methodologies, we propose in a first step a theoretical formalism developed in the spectral space that allows to unify the RANS and LES methods from a physical standpoint. In a second step, we discuss the principle of the hybrid RANS/LES methods capable of representing a RANS-type behavior in the vicinity of a solid boundary and an LES-type behavior far away from the wall boundary. Then, we analyze the principal hybrid RANS/LES methods usually used to perform numerical simulation of turbulent flows encountered in engineering applications. In particular, we investigate the very large eddy simulation (VLES), the detached eddy simulation (DES), the partially integrated transport modeling (PITM) method, the partially averaged Navier-Stokes (PANS) method, and the scale adaptive simulation (SAS) from a physical point of view. Finally, we establish the connection between these methods and more precisely, the link between PITM and PANS as well as DES and PITM showing that these methods that have been built by different ways, practical or theoretical manners have common points of comparison. It is the opinion of the author to consider that the most appropriate method for a particular application will depend on the expectations of the engineer and the computational resources the user is prepared to expend on the problem.

Flow and mixing processes in a classical coaxial jet mixer have been investigated numerically. Calculations have been performed using three Large Eddy Simulation models and three unsteady RANS models. The time averaged mixture fraction and axial velocity, their rms values and energy spectra are compared with LIF and LDA measurements for both j- and r-modes of the jet mixer flow. A special attention is paid to the ability of different models to reproduce unsteady effects. The analysis demonstrates the superiority of the LES method with the dynamic mixed SGS model (DMM) with respect to other RANS and LES models.  相似文献

A modified Reynolds stress turbulence model for the pressure rate of strain can be derived for dispersed two-phase flows taking into account gas-particle interaction. The transport equations for the Reynolds stresses as well as the equation for the fluctuating pressure can be derived starting from the multiphase Navier–Stokes equations. The unknown pressure rate of strain correlation in the Reynolds stress equations is then modelled by considering the multiphase equation for the fluctuating pressure. This leads to a multiphase pressure rate of strain model. The extra particle interaction source terms occurring in the model for the pressure rate of strain can be constructed easily, with no noticeable extra computational cost. Eulerian–Lagrangian simulation results of a turbulent dispersed two-phase jet are presented to show the differences in results with and without the new two-way coupling terms.  相似文献

This paper presents hybrid Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes (RANS) and large-eddy-simulation (LES) methods for the separated flows at high angles of attack around a 6:1 prolate spheroid. The RANS/LES hybrid methods studied in this work include the detached eddy simulation (DES) based on Spalart–Allmaras (S–A), Menter’s k–ω shear-stress-transport (SST) and k–ω with weakly nonlinear eddy viscosity formulation (Wilcox–Durbin+, WD+) models and the zonal-RANS/LES methods based on the SST and WD+ models. The switch from RANS near the wall to LES in the core flow region is smooth through the implementation of a flow-dependent blending function for the zonal hybrid method. All the hybrid methods are designed to have a RANS mode for the attached flows and have a LES behavior for the separated flows. The main objective of this paper is to apply the hybrid methods for the high Reynolds number separated flows around prolate spheroid at high-incidences. A fourth-order central scheme with fourth-order artificial viscosity is applied for spatial differencing. The fully implicit lower–upper symmetric-Gauss–Seidel with pseudo time sub-iteration is taken as the temporal differentiation. Comparisons with available measurements are carried out for pressure distribution, skin friction, and profiles of velocity, etc. Reasonable agreement with the experiments, accounting for the effect on grids and fundamental turbulence models, is obtained for the separation flows. Fine particles play a significant role in many industrial processes. To study the dynamic behavior of fine particle and their deposition in rock fractures, the pneumatic conveying of fine particles (approximately 100 μm in diameter) through a small-scale horizontal slit (0.41 m × 0.025 m) was studied, which is useful for the sealing technology of underground gas drainage in coal mining production. The CFD–DEM method was adopted to model the gas-particle two-phase flow; the gas phase was treated as a continuum and modeled using computational fluid dynamics (CFD), particle motion and collisions were simulated using the DEM code. Then, the bulk movement of fine particles through a small-scale horizontal slit was explored numerically, and the flow patterns were further investigated by visual inspection. The simulation results indicated that stratified flow or dune flow can be observed at low gas velocities. For intermediate gas velocities, the flow patterns showed pulsation phenomena, and dune flow reappeared in the tail section. Moreover, periodic flow regimes with alternating thick and sparse stream structures were observed at a high gas velocity. The simulation results of the bulk movement of fine particles were in good agreement with the experimental findings, which were obtained by video-imaging experiments. Furthermore, the calculated pressure drop versus gas velocity profile was investigated and compared with relative experimental findings, and the results showed good agreement. Furthermore, the particle velocity vectors and voidage distribution were numerically simulated. Selected stimulation results are presented and provide a reference for the further study of fine particles.  相似文献

The objective of this part of the paper is to summarize the information concerning the authors' works in the field of simulation of two-phase gas-particle turbulent flows with heat transfer and combustion. A kinetic equation had been derived for the probability density function (PDF) of the particle velocity, temperature, and mass distributions in turbulent flows. This PDF equation is used for the construction of the governing conservation equations of mass, momentum, and heat transfer in the dispersed particle phase. The numerical scheme incorporates two-phase fluid dynamics, convective and radiative heat transfer, and combustion. The proposed models have been applied to the calculation of various particle-laden turbulent flows in jets, combustion and gasification chambers, and furnaces.  相似文献
