In this paper, we study the harmonic map heat flow with free boundary from a Riemannian surface with smooth boundary into a compact Riemannian manifold. As a consequence, we get at least one disk-type minimal surface in a compact Riemannian manifold without minimal 2-sphere.  相似文献

The article presents an information about the Laplace operator defined on the real-valued mappings of compact Riemannian manifolds, and its spectrum; some properties of the latter are studied. The relationship between the spectra of two Riemannian manifolds connected by a Riemannian submersion with totally geodesic fibers is established. We specify a method of calculating the spectrum of the Laplacian for simply connected simple compact Lie groups with biinvariant Riemannian metrics, by representations of their Lie algebras. As an illustration, the spectrum of the Laplacian on the group SU(2) is found.  相似文献

A Riemannian g.o. manifold is a homogeneous Riemannian manifold (M,g) on which every geodesic is an orbit of a one-parameter group of isometries. It is known that every simply connected Riemannian g.o. manifold of dimension ?5 is naturally reductive. In dimension 6 there are simply connected Riemannian g.o. manifolds which are in no way naturally reductive, and their full classification is known (including compact examples). In dimension 7, just one new example has been known up to now (namely, a Riemannian nilmanifold constructed by C. Gordon). In the present paper we describe compact irreducible 7-dimensional Riemannian g.o. manifolds (together with their “noncompact duals”) which are in no way naturally reductive.  相似文献

Using the notion of rotation set for homeomorphisms of compact manifolds, we define the rotation homomorphism of a connected compact orientable Riemannian manifold and apply it to prove that the dimension of the isometry group of a connected compact orientable Riemannian 3-manifold without conjugate points is not greater than its first Betti number. In higher dimensions the same is true under the additional assumption that the fundamental cohomology class of the manifold is a cup product of integral 1-dimensional classes.  相似文献

We introduce the notion of harmonic nodal maps from the stratified Riemann surfaces into any compact Riemannian manifolds and prove that the space of the energy minimizing nodal maps is sequentially compact. We also give an existence result for the energy minimizing nodal maps. We establish a Weitzenböck formula for harmonic morphismsbetween Riemannian manifolds and show that under suitable curvatureconditions, such a map is totally geodesic. As an applicationof the Weitzenböck formula we obtain some non-existenceresults of a global nature for harmonic morphisms and totallygeodesic horizontally conformal maps between compact Riemannianmanifolds. Summary In this paper, we are investigating curvature properties of complex two-dimensional Hermitian manifolds, particularly in the compact case. To do this, we start with the remark that the fundamental form of such a manifold is integrable, and we use the analogy with the locally conformal KÄhler manifolds, which follows from this remark. Among the obtained results, we have the following: a compact Hermitian surface for which either the Riemannian curvature tensor satisfies the KÄhler symmetries or the Hermitian curvature tensor satisfies the Riemannian Bianchi identity is KÄhler; a compact Hermitian surface of constant sectional curvature is a flat KÄhler surface; a compact Hermitian surface M with nonnegative nonidentical zero holomorphie Hermitian bisectional curvature has vanishing plurigenera, c1(M) 0, and no exceptional curves; a compact Hermitian surface with distinguished metric, and positive integral Riemannian scalar curvature has vanishing plurigenera, etc.  相似文献

Compact Hermitian surfaces of constant antiholomorphic sectional curvatures with respect to the Riemannian curvature tensor and with respect to the Hermitian curvature tensor are considered. It is proved: a compact Hermitian surface of constant antiholomorphic Riemannian sectional curvatures is a self-dual Kaehler surface; a compact Hermitian surface of constant antiholomorphic Hermitian sectional curvatures is either a Kaehler surface of constant (non-zero) holomorphic sectional curvatures or a conformally flat Hermitian surface.
