We developed a process to fabricate 150-700 nm monodisperse polymer particles with 100-500 nm hollow cores. These hollow particles were fabricated via dispersion polymerization to synthesize a polymer shell around monodisperse SiO(2) particles. The SiO(2) cores were then removed by HF etching to produce monodisperse hollow polymeric particle shells. The hollow core size and the polymer shell thickness, can be easily varied over significant size ranges. These hollow polymeric particles are sufficiently monodisperse that upon centrifugation from ethanol they form well-ordered close-packed colloidal crystals that diffract light. After the surfaces are functionalized with sulfonates, these particles self-assemble into crystalline colloidal arrays in deionized water. This synthetic method can also be used to create monodisperse particles with complex and unusual morphologies. For example, we synthesized hollow particles containing two concentric-independent, spherical polymer shells, and hollow silica particles which contain a central spherical silica core. In addition, these hollow spheres can be used as template microreactors. For example, we were able to fabricate monodisperse polymer spheres containing high concentrations of magnetic nanospheres formed by direct precipitation within the hollow cores.  相似文献

A two-population model based on standard small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) equations is verified for the analysis of core-shell structures comprising spherical colloidal particles with particulate shells. First, Monte Carlo simulations of core-shell structures are performed to demonstrate the applicability of the model. Three possible shell packings are considered: ordered silica shells due to either charge-dependent repulsive or size-dependent Lennard-Jones interactions or randomly arranged silica particles. In most cases, the two-population model produces an excellent fit to calculated SAXS patterns for the simulated core-shell structures, together with a good correlation between the fitting parameters and structural parameters used for the simulation. The limits of application are discussed, and then, this two-population model is applied to the analysis of well-defined core-shell vinyl polymer/silica nanocomposite particles, where the shell comprises a monolayer of spherical silica nanoparticles. Comprehensive SAXS analysis of a series of poly(styrene-co-n-butyl acrylate)/silica colloidal nanocomposite particles (prepared by the in situ emulsion copolymerization of styrene and n-butyl acrylate in the presence of a glycerol-functionalized silica sol) allows the overall core-shell particle diameter, the copolymer latex core diameter and polydispersity, the mean silica shell thickness, the mean silica diameter and polydispersity, the volume fractions of the two components, the silica packing density, and the silica shell structure to be obtained. These experimental SAXS results are consistent with electron microscopy, dynamic light scattering, thermogravimetry, helium pycnometry, and BET surface area studies. The high electron density contrast between the (co)polymer and the silica components, together with the relatively low polydispersity of these core-shell nanocomposite particles, makes SAXS ideally suited for the characterization of this system. Moreover, these results can be generalized for other types of core-shell colloidal particles.  相似文献

Colloidal FePt nanocrystals, 6 nm in diameter, were synthesized and then coated with silica (SiO2) shells. The silica shell thickness could be varied from 10 to 25 nm. As-made FePt@SiO2 nanocrystals have low magnetocrystalline anisotropy due to a compositionally disordered FePt core. When films of FePt@SiO2 particles are annealed under hydrogen at 650 degrees C or above, the FePt core transforms to the compositionally ordered L1(0) phase, and superparamagnetic blocking temperatures exceeding room temperature are obtained. The SiO2 shell prevents FePt coalescence at annealing temperatures up to approximately 850 degrees C. Annealing under air or nitrogen does not induce the FePt phase transition. The silica shell limits magnetic dipole coupling between the FePt nanocrystals; however, low temperature (5 K) and room temperature magnetization scans show slightly constricted hysteresis loops with coercivities that decrease systematically with decreased shell thickness, possibly resulting from differences in magnetic dipole coupling between particles.  相似文献

Hexagonal platy composite particles with a hydrotalcite core and a nanoporous silica shell with a thickness of ca. 100 nm were synthesized by the reaction of a Mg-Al hydrotalcite with a homogeneous aqueous solution containing tetraethoxysilane, hexadecyltrimethylammonium chloride, ammonia and methanol at 3 degrees C. The calcination of the products at 500 degrees C in air led to the composite particle with a Mg/Al mixed oxide core and a nanoporous silica shell. Hexagonal platy particles of nanoporous silica with a pore diameter of 2.3 nm and BET surface area of 700 m(2) (g of silica)(-1) were obtained by removing the Mg/Al mixed oxide core.  相似文献

Mesopore-free hollow silica particles with a spherical shape, smooth surface, and controllable diameter (from 80 to 300 nm) and shell thickness (from 2 to 25 nm) were successfully prepared using an additive-free synthesis method. Different from other hollow particle developments, a mesopore-free shell was produced because of the absence of additive. Although common reports pointed out the importance of the additional additive in pasting and growing silica on the surface of a template, here we preferred to exploit the effect of the template charge in gaining the silica coating process. To form the silica, basic amino acid (i.e., lysine) was used as a catalyst to replace ammonia or hydrazine, which is harmless and able to control the silica growth and produce hollow particles with smooth surfaces. Control of the particle diameter was drastically achieved by altering the size of the template. The flexibility of the process in controlling the shell thickness was predominantly attained by varying the compositions of the reactants (i.e., silica source and catalyst). The present mesopore-free hollow particles could be efficiently used for various applications, especially for thermal insulator and optical devices because of their tendency not to adsorb large molecules, as confirmed by adsorption analysis.  相似文献

Poly(N-isopropylacrylamide-co-3-trimethoxysilylpropyl methacrylate) was prepared by radical polymerization and was grafted onto the surface of spherical colloidal silica. The copolymer, which had on average 1 silyl group per chain, condensed on the silica dispersed in THF at 60 degrees C. The resulting particles had a critical coagulation concentration of calcium chloride of 500 mM at room temperature, indicating robust colloidal stability. By contrast, heating the suspension to 50 degrees C lowered the critical coagulation concentration by more than three orders of magnitude, giving a value of 0.1 mM. Thus, the PNIPAM shell induced temperature-sensitive colloidal stability in the silica dispersion. The coated silica particles were also surface active. However, the surface tension of 50 mJ/m(2) at 25 degrees C is 15% higher than the corresponding value for PNIPAM solutions. Copyright 2000 Academic Press.  相似文献

We demonstrate a facile wet chemical approach for fabricating spherical metal/metal-oxide core@mesoporous silica shell hybrid nanoparticles with different core and shell thicknesses. Vertically aligned mesoporous silica (mSiO(2) ) shells were fabricated over the pre-synthesized spherical SiO(2) nanoparticles through a three-step strategy: 1)?synthesis of core materials, 2)?covering the core with an organic-inorganic composite layer, and 3)?removing the organic template through calcinations in air. The mechanisms of hybrid structure formation are proposed. The multifunctional nature of the hybrid structures could be induced by incorporating guest ions/molecules, such as Ag, Mn, and TiO(2) , into the pores of an mSiO(2) shell. Mn and TiO(2) cluster- incorporated composite structures have been tested to be antioxidizing agents and effective photocatalysts through electron spin resonance, radical scavenging tests, and the photocatalytic degradation of rhodamine B. The possibility of incorporating several hetero-element guest clusters in these mesoporous composite particles makes them highly attractive for multifunctional applications.  相似文献

A silica monomer-estrone complex (EstSi) having a thermally cleavable urethane bond and a cross-linkable triethoxysilane group was synthesized. From EstSi and TEOS, spherical silica particles with sizes of 1.5-3 mum were prepared. The template molecules were removed from the silica matrix by heating at 180 degrees C in DMSO in the presence of water, generating a cavity with an amino group. The control silica particles that had the same sizes and shapes were obtained with aminopropyl triethoxysilane and TEOS. When ethylene glycol was added in place of H2O, an ethyl alcoholic group was formed in the cavity. Their recognition ability and specific binding for estrone were characterized by uptake experiments. The estrone-imprinted silica particles showed a much higher recognition ability than the control silica particles and higher selectivity for estrone than testosterone propionate.  相似文献

We present a novel method for the preparation of ultrasmall Au/CdSe core/shell particles. Au-Cd bialloy particles of 4.7 nm diameter were prepared as the precursor. The Cd component in the precursor reacted with the Se source at a temperature of 205 degrees C and was heated to 250 degrees C, leading to formation of a Au/CdSe core/shell structure. The sizes of Au/CdSe nanoparticles have a narrow distribution with an average size of 6.0 nm and Au core of 2.2 nm diameter. The X-ray diffraction pattern and the images of the high-resolution electron transmission microscopy show that the Au cores and the CdSe shells of Au/CdSe core/shell nanoparticles are both well crystallized, and the CdSe shells are in a cubic phase. The absorption spectrum of the Au/CdSe nanoparticles combines the absorption behaviors of the Au cores and the CdSe shells.  相似文献

Monodisperse spherical hollow nanoparticles of mesoporous silica featuring mesopores with a radial orientation in the silica shell were synthesized via a dual-templating method. Specifically designed polystyrene latexes with anionic or cationic surface charges acted as the core templates, while cetyltrimethylammonium bromide served as a co-template to structure the mesopore formation during tetraethoxysilane hydrolysis/condensation. The particles were well-separated and presented homogeneous mesoporous silica shells. Average particle diameters were less than 200 nm, and the particles displayed high values of specific surface area and pore volume. The shell thickness and the hollow core diameter could be tuned independently while the radial pore structure was preserved. A detailed analysis of the nitrogen adsorption-desorption isotherms proved that the central cavity was completely isolated from the external medium, that is, only accessible through the radial mesopores of the shell. Consequently, our particles gather the advantages of a well-defined structure, straight penetrating channels across the silica shell, and a high accessible porous volume of the central core. These properties make them far better candidates than simple mesoporous particles for any storage and/or controlled release applications.  相似文献

Carbon capsules with hollow cores and mesoporous shells (HCMS) containing entrapped Au particles were prepared by template replication from solid core/mesoporous shell silica spheres with encapsulated Au particles. The resulting HCMS carbon capsules were then nanocast one step further to generate Au-trapping hollow core silica capsules with nanostructured shells.  相似文献

Hollow spherical silica particles with hexagonally ordered mesoporous shells are synthesized with the dual use of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) and unmodified polystyrene latex microspheres as templates in concentrated aqueous ammonia. In most of the hollow mesoporous particles, cylindrical pores run parallel to the hollow core due to interactions of CTAB/silica aggregates with the latices. Effects on the product structure of the CTAB:latex ratio, the amount of aqueous ammonia, and the latex size are studied. Hollow particles with hexagonally patterned mesoporous shells are obtained at moderate CTAB:latex ratios. Too little CTAB causes silica shell growth without surfactant templating, and too much induces nucleation of new mesoporous silica particles without latex cores. The concentration of ammonia must be large to induce co-assembly of CTAB, silica, and latex into dispersed particles. The results are consistent with the formation of particles by addition of CTAB/silica aggregates to the surface of latex microspheres. When the size and number density of the latex microspheres are changed, the size of the hollow core and the shell thickness can be controlled. However, if the microspheres are too small (50 nm in this case), agglomerated particles with many hollow voids are obtained, most likely due to colloidal instability.  相似文献

Polyelectrolyte capsules containing rhodamine 6G and fluorescein isothiocyanate in their shells are obtained by successive adsorption on spherical microscopic CaCO3 particles followed by the dissolution of the latter. Suspensions of the capsules are irradiated with a laser operating at a wavelength corresponding to the absorption bands of the dyes, and it is shown that shell modification with the selected dyes promotes photosensitized disruption of these structures. The mechanism proposed for this disruption is realized via energy transfer from photoexcited dye molecules to the polymer matrix. Therewith, the dye-modified capsules are disrupted due to their nonuniform local heating.  相似文献

Raspberry-like composite particles and microcapsules were prepared with anionic sulfonated polystyrene (PSS) particles as templates and cationic aniline monomer as assembly medium. With the help of the sulfonated microgel shells, aniline and silica particles could not only adsorbed onto template surfaces but also go inward shells and finally form microcapsules with varied silica shell thickness. The sulfonation extent of PSS particles first climbed up and then decreased with sulfonation time due to the competition of sulfonation reaction and PSS chain detachment. The silica content in composite particles and shell thickness of microcapsules followed similar trend with sulfonation extent. The choice of aniline as assembly medium was checked by comparing with methyl methacrylate and [2-(methacryloyloxy) ethyl] trimethylammonium chloride, and it was found that the cationic and water-insoluble properties of aniline are both important for the composite efficiency.  相似文献

Nanocomposite materials containing 10% and 20% iron oxide/silica, Fe2O3/SiO2 (w/w), were prepared by direct hydrolysis of aqueous iron III nitrate solution in sols of freshly prepared spherical silica particles (St?ber particles) present in their mother liquors. This was followed by aging, drying, calcination up to 600 degrees C through two different ramp rates, and then isothermal calcinations at 600 degrees C for 3 h. The calcined and the uncalcined (dried at 120 degrees C) composites were characterized by thermogravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), N2 adsorption/desorption techniques, and scanning electron microscopy as required. XRD patterns of the calcined composites showed no line broadening at any d-spacing positions of iron oxide phases, thereby reflecting the amorphous nature of Fe2O3 in the composite. The calcined composites showed nitrogen adsorption isotherms characterizing type IV isotherms with high surface area. Moreover, surface area increased with the increasing of the iron oxide ratio and lowering of the calcination ramp rate. Results indicated that iron oxide particles were dispersed on the exterior of silica particles as isolated and/or aggregated nanoparticles. The formation of the title composite was discussed in terms of the hydrolysis and condensation mechanisms of the inorganic FeIII precursor in the silica sols. Thereby, fast nucleation and limited growth of hydrous iron oxide led to the formation of nanoparticles that spread interactively on the hydroxylated surface of spherical silica particles. Therefore, a nanostructured composite of amorphous nanoparticles of iron oxide (as a shell) spreading on the surface of silica particles (as a core) was formed. This morphology limited the aggregation of Fe2O3 nanoparticles, prevented silica particle coalescence at high temperatures, and enhanced thermal stability.  相似文献

Core-shell silica particles, with a diameter of 1.5 mum, containing a dye fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), are synthesized by the hydrolysis and condensation of tetraethylorthosilicate (TEOS). Sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) is added to synthesize fluorescent core particles with the diameter of approximately 1 mum. In the addition of SDS, the surface charge reduced by counterions (Na+) of the surfactant leads to a higher degree of aggregation of the primary particles and the formation of larger secondary particles. The particle growth kinetics confirms the aggregation growth model for the synthesis of monodisperse silica particles, and also shows the dependence of final particle size on colloidal stability resulting from the addition of SDS. Light and X-ray scattering data reveal that the final particles have compactly packed structures with smooth surfaces. The seeded growth technique is then used to form a silica shell layer on the fluorescent core. The added amount of water and NH4OH has significant effects on shell formation. Finally, the final core-shell silica particles are modified by chemisorption of octadecanol at the surface to be dispersed in organic solvents. Octadecyl-coated silica particles are sterically stabilized in silica index-matching solvents such as chloroform and hexadecane to directly image separate particles using confocal microscopy. In chloroform, the organophilic silica particles disperse well, whereas in hexadecane they form a volume-filling gel structure at room temperature.  相似文献
