Thin films of lead sulfide (PbS) nanoparticles were grown on corning glass and Si(1 0 0) substrates by polyethylene glycol-assisted chemical bath deposition (CBD) method. This paper compares the morphology and the luminescence properties (PL) of the deposited thin films in the presence (or absence) of PEG300 and investigates the effect of deposition temperatures. Surface morphology and photoluminescence properties of samples were analyzed. The PL data show a blue-shift from the normal emission at ∼2900 nm in PbS bulk to ∼360 nm in nanoparticles of PbS thin films. Furthermore, the PL emission of the films obtained without the addition of PEG300 (type 1) was slightly shifted from that of the films obtained in presence of PEG300 (type 2) from ∼360 to ∼470 nm. The blue-shifting of the emission wavelengths from 2900 to ∼360 or 470 nm is attributed to quantum confinement of charge carriers in the restricted volume of nanoparticles, while the shift between the two types of PbS nanoparticles thin films is speculated to be due to an increase in the defect concentration. The blue-shift increased with increase of the deposition temperature, which suggests that there has been a relative depletion in particle sizes during the CBD of the films at higher temperatures. The PbS nanocrystalline thin films obtained in the presence of PEG300 at 60 °C exhibit a high blue luminescence.  相似文献

The granular CuO films are deposited on n-Si (1 0 0) and sapphire substrates using sol-gel route. Small microstrain leads to ∼5 times larger grain sizes (200-300 nm) and ∼2.5 times larger film thickness (∼0.57 μm) for sapphire than n-Si substrate, which are confirmed by X-ray diffraction and Atomic Force Microscopy. A diode-like current-voltage characteristics are observed for film deposited on n-Si substrate, which is absent for sapphire substrate. Typical manifestation of ferromagnetic character is observed for CuO films, which are strongly influenced by the substrates. Magnetic anisotropy is larger for sapphire substrate than n-Si substrate. At room temperature considerably large magnetoconductance ∼21% and soft ferromagnetic character of CuO film on n-Si substrate are attractive for functional applications.  相似文献

The structure and morphology of chromium disilicide (CrSi2) nanometric films grown on 〈1 0 0〉 silicon substrates both at room temperature (RT) and at 740 K by pulsed laser ablation are reported. A pure CrSi2 crystal target was ablated with a KrF excimer laser in vacuum (∼3 × 10−5 Pa). Morphological and structural properties of the deposited films were investigated using Rutherford backscattering spectrometry (RBS), grazing incidence X-ray diffraction (GID), X-ray reflectivity (XRR), scanning (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). From RBS analysis, the films’ thickness resulted of ∼40 nm. This value is in agreement with the value obtained from XRR and TEM analysis (∼42 and ∼38 nm, respectively). The films’ composition, as inferred from Rutherford Universal Manipulation Program simulation of experimental spectra, is close to stoichiometric CrSi2. GID analysis showed that the film deposited at 740 K is composed only by the CrSi2 phase. The RT deposited sample is amorphous, while GID and TEM analyses evidenced that the film deposited at 740 K is poorly crystallised. The RT deposited film exhibited a metallic behaviour, while that one deposited at 740 K showed a semiconductor behaviour down to 227 K.  相似文献

Nickel films of different thickness ranging from 15 nm to 350 nm were deposited on glass substrates, at different substrate temperatures (313-600 K) under UHV condition. The nano-structure of the films was obtained, using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The nano-strain in these films was obtained using the Warren-Averbach method. Their optical properties were measured by spectrophotometry in the spectral range of 190-2500 nm. Kramers-Kronig method was used for the analysis of the reflectivity curves. The absorption peaks of Ni thin films at ∼1.4 eV (transition between the bands near W and K symmetry points) and ∼5.0 eV (transition from L2 to L1 upper) are observed, with an additional bump at about 2 eV. The over-layer thickness was calculated to be less than 3.0 nm, using the Transfer Matrix method. The changes in optical data are related to different phenomena, such as different crystallographic orientations of the grains in these polycrystalline films (film texture), nano-strain, and film surface roughness.  相似文献

Polycrystalline cadmium telluride films were successfully deposited on glass substrates by ablating a CdTe target by pulsed Nd–YAG laser. Microstructural studies indicated an increase in the average crystallite size from 15 nm to ∼50 nm with the increase in substrate temperature during deposition. The films deposited here were slightly tellurium rich. X-ray diffraction pattern indicated that the films deposited at 300 K had wurtzite structure while those deposited above 573 K were predominantly of zinc blende structure. Residual strain in the films deposited at 300 K was quite low as compared to those deposited at higher temperatures. PL spectra of all the CdTe films were dominated by a strong peak at ∼921 nm (∼1.347 eV) followed by a low intensity peak at ∼863 nm (∼1.438 eV). Characteristics Raman peaks for CdTe indicated a peak at ∼120 cm−1 followed by peaks located at ∼140 cm−1 and 160 cm−1.  相似文献

In the present study, the structural, optical and antibacterial properties of ZnO thin films are reported. ZnO thin films are deposited on borosilicate glass substrates by radio frequency plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) using oxygen as process gas. The crystallinity of the deposited films is improved upon annealing at 450 °C in air for 1.5 h and the polycrystalline nature of the films is further confirmed by selected area electron diffraction. The particle size of the annealed film (thickness 476 nm) is found to be ∼34 nm from the transmission electron microscopic observation. Energy dispersive X-ray spectrum indicates the stoichiometric deposition of ZnO films. The films are highly transparent (transmittance >85%) in the visible region of electromagnetic spectrum. The films exhibit excellent antibacterial effect towards the growth of Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.  相似文献

In this work patterned ZnO films were prepared at room-temperature by deposition of ∼5 nm size ZnO nanoparticles using confined dewetting lithography, a process which induces their assembly, by drying a drop of ZnO colloidal dispersion between a floating template and the substrate. Crystalline ZnO nanoparticles exhibit a strong visible (525 nm) light emission upon UV excitation (λ = 350 nm). The resulting films were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscope (AFM). The method described herein presents a simple and low cost method to prepare crystalline ZnO films with geometric patterns without additional annealing. Such transparent conducting films are attractive for applications like light emitting diodes (LEDs). As the process is carried out at room temperature, the patterned crystalline ZnO films can even be deposited on flexible substrates.  相似文献

In this work, we extracted the film's hardness (HF) of ultra-thin diamond-like carbon layers by simultaneously taking into account the tip blunting and the substrate effect. As compared to previous approaches, which did not consider tip blunting, this resulted in marked differences (30-100%) for the HF value of the thinner carbon coatings. We find that the nature of the substrate influences this intrinsic film parameter and hence the growth mechanisms. Moreover, the HF values generally increase with film thickness. The 10 nm and 50 nm thick hydrogenated amorphous carbon (a-C:H) films deposited onto Si have HF values of, respectively, ∼26 GPa and ∼31 GPa whereas the 10 nm and 50 nm thick tetrahedral amorphous carbon (t-aC) films deposited onto Si have HF values of, respectively, ∼29 GPa and ∼38 GPa. Both the a-C:H and t-aC materials also show higher density and refractive index values for the thicker coatings, as measured, respectively by X-ray reflectometry and optical profilometry analysis. However, the Raman analysis of the a-C:H samples show bonding characteristics which are independent of the film thickness. This indicates that in these ultra-thin hydrogenated carbon films, the arrangement of sp2 clusters does not relate directly to the hardness of the film.  相似文献

Metal-insulator-metal (MIM) capacitors were fabricated using ZrO2 films and the effects of structural and native defects of the ZrO2 films on the electrical and dielectric properties were investigated. For preparing ZrO2 films, Zr films were deposited on Pt/Si substrates by ion beam deposition (IBD) system with/without substrate bias voltages and oxidized at 200 °C for 60 min under 0.1 MPa O2 atmosphere with/without UV light irradiation (λ = 193 nm, Deep UV lamp). The ZrO2(∼12 nm) films on Pt(∼100 nm)/Si were characterized by X-ray diffraction pattern (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), capacitance-voltage (C-V) and current-voltage (I-V) measurements were carried out on MIM structures. ZrO2 films, fabricated by oxidizing the Zr film deposited with substrate bias voltage under UV light irradiation, show the highest capacitance (784 pF) and the lowest leakage current density. The active oxygen species formed by UV irradiation are considered to play an important role in the reduction of the leakage current density, because they can reduce the density of oxygen vacancies.  相似文献

NiO nanoparticle thin films grown on Si substrates were irradiated by 107 MeV Ag8+ ions. The films were characterized by glancing angle X-ray diffraction and atomic force microscopy. Ag ion irradiation was found to influence the shape and size of the nanoparticles. The pristine NiO film consisted of uniform size (∼100 nm along major axis and ∼55 nm along minor axis) elliptical particles, which changed to also of uniform size (∼63 nm) circular shape particles on irradiation at a fluence of 3 × 1013 ions cm−2. Comparison of XRD line width analysis and AFM data revealed that the particles in the pristine films are single crystalline, which turn to polycrystalline on irradiation with 107 MeV Ag ions.  相似文献

Transparent and conducting ITO/Au/ITO multilayered films were deposited without intentional substrate heating on polycarbonate (PC) substrate using a magnetron sputtering process. The thickness of ITO, Au and ITO metal films in the multilayered structure was constant at 50, 10 and 40 nm, respectively.Although the substrate temperature was kept constant at 70 °C, ITO/Au/ITO films were polycrystalline with an (1 1 0) X-ray diffraction peak, while single ITO films were amorphous. Surface roughness analysis indicated ITO films had a higher average roughness of 1.76 nm, than the ITO/Au/ITO film roughness of 0.51 nm. The optoelectrical properties of the ITO/Au/ITO films were dependent on the Au thin film, which affected the ITO film crystallinity. ITO/Au/ITO films on PC substrates were developed with a resistivity as low as 5.6 × 10−5 Ω cm and a high optical transmittance of 71.7%.  相似文献

Planar quarter wave stacks based on amorphous chalcogenide Ge-Se alternating with polymer polystyrene (PS) thin films are reported as Bragg reflectors for near-infrared region. Chalcogenide films were prepared using a thermal evaporation (TE) while polymer films were deposited using a spin-coating technique. The film thicknesses, d∼165 nm for Ge25Se75 (n=2.35) and d∼250 nm for polymer film (n=1.53), were calculated to center the reflection band round 1550 nm, whose wavelengths are used in telecommunication. Optical properties of prepared multilayer stacks were determined in the range 400-2200 nm using spectral ellipsometry, optical transmission and reflection measurements. Total reflection for normal incidence of unpolarized light was observed from 1530 to 1740 nm for 8 Ge-Se+7 PS thin film stacks prepared on silicon wafer. In addition to total reflection of light with normal incidence, the omnidirectional total reflection of TE-polarized light from 8 Ge-Se+7 PS thin film stacks was observed. Reflection band maxima shifted with varying incident angles, i.e., 1420-1680 nm for 45° deflection from the normal and 1300-1630 nm for 70° deflection from the normal.  相似文献

Iron oxide thin films have been obtained by spray pyrolysis using 100% methanolic and ethanolic solutions of iron tri-chloride. The films were deposited onto ITO-coated glass substrates. The preparative conditions have been optimized to obtain compact, pin-hole-free and smooth thin films which are adherent to the substrate. The structural, morphological and compositional characterizations have been carried out by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray analysis. The films deposited using ethanolic solution results into pure hematite; α-Fe2O3 thin films, however, films deposited using methanolic solution consists of hematite and maghemite-c phases of iron oxide. The films are nanocrystalline with particle size of 30-40 nm. The optical absorbance of the film was of the order of 105 cm−1. The optical band gap of films was found to be 2.26 and 2.20 eV for the films deposited using methanolic and ethanolic solutions, respectively.  相似文献

A plasma polymerization method was used to modify the surfaces of ZnO nanoparticles, and the effects of plasma surface modification on photoluminescence (PL) property of ZnO nanoparticles were studied. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy images revealed that a thin film of vinyl acetate (VAC) polymer layer (∼4 nm) was uniformly deposited on the surfaces of the ZnO nanoparticles. The chemical structure of the polymer layer was identified by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) experiments. The photoluminescence (PL) intensity of the ZnO nanoparticles was found to be significantly decreased by the deposited plasma films. For the particle of smaller size, the ultrathin film indicated better ultraviolet (UV) shielding ability.  相似文献

Pure and Cu-doped ZnO (ZnO:Cu) thin films were deposited on glass substrates using radio frequency (RF) reactive magnetron sputtering. The effect of substrate temperature on the crystallization behavior and optical properties of the ZnO:Cu films have been studied. The crystal structures, surface morphology and optical properties of the films were systematically investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and a fluorescence spectrophotometer, respectively. The results indicated that ZnO films showed a stronger preferred orientation toward the c-axis and a more uniform grain size after Cu-doping. As for ZnO:Cu films, the full width at half maxima (FWHM) of (0 0 2) diffraction peaks decreased first and then increased, reaching a minimum of about 0.42° at 350 °C and the compressive stress of ZnO:Cu decreased gradually with the increase of substrate temperature. The photoluminescence (PL) spectra measured at room temperature revealed two blue and two green emissions. Intense blue-green luminescence was obtained from the sample deposited at higher substrate temperature. Finally, we discussed the influence of annealing temperature on the structural and optical properties of ZnO:Cu films. The quality of ZnO:Cu film was markedly improved and the intensity of blue peak (∼485 nm) and green peak (∼527 nm) increased noticeably after annealing. The origin of these emissions was discussed.  相似文献

In this study, SrAl2O4:Eu2+,Dy3+ thin film phosphors were deposited on Si (1 0 0) substrates using the pulsed laser deposition (PLD) technique. The films were deposited at different substrate temperatures in the range of 40-700 °C. The structure, morphology and topography of the films were determined by using X-ray diffraction (XRD), atomic force microscopy (AFM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). Photoluminescence (PL) data was collected in air at room temperature using a 325 nm He-Cd laser as an excitation source. The PL spectra of all the films were characterized by green phosphorescent photoluminescence at ∼530 nm. This emission was attributed to 4f65d1→4f7 transition of Eu2+. The highest PL intensity was observed from the films deposited at a substrate temperature of 400 °C. The effects of varying substrate temperature on the PL intensity were discussed.  相似文献

Ge thin films with a thickness of about 110 nm have been deposited by electron beam evaporation of 99.999% pure Ge powder and annealed in air at 100-500 °C for 2 h. Their optical, electrical and structural properties were studied as a function of annealing temperature. The films are amorphous below an annealing temperature of 400 °C as confirmed by XRD, FESEM and AFM. The films annealed at 400 and 450 °C exhibit X-ray diffraction pattern of Ge with cubic-F structure. The Raman spectrum of the as-deposited film exhibits peak at 298 cm−1, which is left-shifted as compared to that for bulk Ge (i.e. 302 cm−1), indicating nanostructure and quantum confinement in the as-deposited film. The Raman peak shifts further towards lower wavenumbers with annealing temperature. Optical band gap energy of amorphous Ge films changes from 1.1 eV with a substantial increase to ∼1.35 eV on crystallization at 400 and 450 °C and with an abrupt rise to 4.14 eV due to oxidation. The oxidation of Ge has been confirmed by FTIR analysis. The quantum confinement effects cause tailoring of optical band gap energy of Ge thin films making them better absorber of photons for their applications in photo-detectors and solar cells. XRD, FESEM and AFM suggest that the deposited Ge films are composed of nanoparticles in the range of 8-20 nm. The initial surface RMS roughness measured with AFM is 9.56 nm which rises to 12.25 nm with the increase of annealing temperature in the amorphous phase, but reduces to 6.57 nm due to orderedness of the atoms at the surface when crystallization takes place. Electrical resistivity measured as a function of annealing temperature is found to reduce from 460 to 240 Ω-cm in the amorphous phase but drops suddenly to 250 Ω-cm with crystallization at 450 °C. The film shows a steep rise in resistivity to about 22.7 KΩ-cm at 500 °C due to oxidation. RMS roughness and resistivity show almost opposite trends with annealing in the amorphous phase.  相似文献

Samarium fluoride (SmF3) films have been deposited on quartz, silicon and germanium substrates by vacuum evaporation method. The crystal structure of the films deposited on silicon substrate is examined by X-ray diffraction (XRD). The films deposited at 100 °C, 150 °C and 250 °C have the (1 1 1) preferred growth orientation, but the film deposited at 200 °C has (3 6 0) growth orientation. The surface morphology evolution of the films with different thickness is investigated with optical microscopy. It is shown that the microcrack density and orientation of thin film is different from that of thick film. The transmission spectrum of SmF3 films is measured from 200 nm to 20 μm. It is found that this material has good transparency from deep violet to far infrared. The optical constants of SmF3 films from 200 nm to 12 μm are calculated by fitting the transmission spectrum of the films using Lorentz oscillator model.  相似文献

Pulsed laser deposition technique is used for deposition of tungsten-doped indium oxide films. The effect of film thickness on structural, optical and electrical properties was studied using X-ray diffraction (XRD), atomic force microscopy, UV-visible spectroscopy, and electrical measurements. X-ray diffraction study reveals that all the films are highly crystalline and oriented along (2 2 2) direction and the film crystallinity increases with increase in film thickness. Atomic force microscopy analysis shows that these films are very smooth with root mean square surface roughness of ∼1.0 nm. Bandgap energy of the films depends on thickness and varies from 3.71 eV to 3.94 eV. It is observed that resistivity of the films decreases with thickness, while mobility increases.  相似文献

In this paper, we reported the possibility to image non-conducting P(VDF-TrFE) copolymer films by STM. The films had the thickness of ∼25.0 nm and were spin-coated onto Au or graphite substrates. For films deposited on Au substrates, STM images showed grain structures of ∼100 nm, much larger than the grains of bare Au substrate. With increased scan rate, the film surface was damaged by STM tip and extreme protrusions and holes were observed. For films deposited on graphite substrates, we only obtained an image of very flat plane and could not observe the topography of the film surface. It seemed that the tip had pierced through the uppermost P(VDF-TrFE) layers and only imaged the layers nearest to the substrate. Asymmetrical current-voltage curves were observed from copolymer films deposited on HOPG. Experimental results were discussed.  相似文献
