A new general expression is derived for the fluctuating electromagnetic field outside a metal surface in terms of its surface impedance. It provides a generalization to real metals of Lifshitz theory of molecular interactions between dielectric solids. The theory is used to compute the radiative heat transfer between two parallel metal surfaces at different temperatures. It is shown that a measurement of this quantity may provide an experimental resolution of a long-standing controversy about the effect of thermal corrections on the Casimir force between real metal plates.  相似文献

A general theory of the interaction of the quantized electromagnetic field with atoms, in the presence of dispersing and absorbing dielectric bodies of given Kramers-Kronig consistent permittivities, is developed. It is based on a source-quantity representation of the electromagnetic field, in which the electromagnetic-field operators are expressed in terms of a continuous set of fundamental bosonic fields via the Green tensor of the classical problem. Introducing scalar and vector potentials, the formalism is extended to include in the theory the interaction of the quantized electromagnetic field with additional atoms. Both the minimal-coupling scheme and the multipolar-coupling scheme are considered. The theory replaces the standard concept of mode decomposition, which fails for complex permittivities. It enables us to treat the effects of dispersion and absorption in a consistent way and to give a unified approach to the atom-field interaction, without any restriction to a particular interaction regime in a particular frequency range. All relevant information about the dielectric bodies, such as form and intrinsic dispersion and absorption, is contained in the Green tensor. The application of the theory to the spontaneous decay of an excited atom in the presence of dispersing and absorbing bodies is addressed.  相似文献

The polarization of the electromagnetic vacuum is examined in the neighborhood of dielectric and conducting surfaces and the energy associated with this polarization is shown to depend on a cutoff related to the microstructure of the boundary. The appearance of the cutoff permits the vacuum energy to be expressed in terms of a surface tension and certain higher shape tensions. For the case of a dielectric boundary the surface tension reproduces the Schmitt-Lucas formula which accounts reasonably for the observed surface tensions of many materials. The curvature tension is also calculated and it seems the effect of this energy may well be accessible to experimental verification. For the case of perfectly conducting surfaces the first four shape tensions are calculated. It is shown that previous calculations of the vacuum energy due to perfectly conducting surfaces are in error and these errors are corrected.  相似文献

Two numerical methods to model light scattering from illuminated features on surfaces are presented. The discrete-dipole approximation (DDA) method is considered, as well as the modified double interaction method (MDIM). The DDA method models electromagnetic scattering of continuous features using discrete dipoles placed on a lattice structure. Sommerfeld integral terms are used to model dipole/surface interaction in the near-field. The MDIM method first computes scattering from the features based in free space using other methods such as Mie theory or other standard light scattering codes (including DDA). The surface interaction is modeled as a first approximation by means of a geometrical shadowing effect and the Fresnel coefficients. Comparisons of the methods will be shown for light scattering from spherical features. The material properties of dielectric and metallic materials will be considered and the feature sizes will be varied. The prediction accuracy and computational requirements of each method will be investigated. For most cases, the studies will show that the DDA method is more accurate than the MDIM method for dielectric materials since the modeling of the feature and surface electromagnetic interaction is more accurate; however, the modified double interaction method may be advantageous over the discrete-dipole approximation method for metallic features because of lesser computational times and memory requirements.  相似文献

A novel axially modulated, annular electron beam cusp-injected, slowly varied section opened cavity, hybrid-magnicon amplifier had been proposed I once. The hybrid-magnicon has wavelength up to millimeter wave bend. The while its non-self-consistent non-space-charge nonlinear numerical calculation method was discussed. But due to bunch effect is changing uniform distribution state of the annular electron beam in the driver cavity, and then dynamic force balances of the beam is changing. Therefore, besides the interaction force between electron beam and the rotating TMn10 mode electromagnetic field also must consider the electromagnetic force of current density and the action force between the space-charges and the action force of the charge density grade, et al. effect. The problem is solved concerning the excitation of natural electromagnetic oscillations in a semiconductor or a dielectric layer by the action of charged particles or quanta of an electromagnetic field. The increments of buildup in the case of quasiresonance interaction of the surface and body plasmons are determined. The excitation of a dielectric waveguide by an electron beam is investigated. We fulfill the detailed analysis of coupling the charged bosonic higher-spin fields to external constant electromagnetic field in first order in external field strength. Cubic interaction vertex of arbitrary massive and massless bosonic higher-spin fields with external field is found. Construction is based on deformation of free Lagrangian and free gauge transformations by terms linear in electromagnetic field strength. In massive case a formulation with Stueckelberg fields is used. We begin with the most general form of deformations for Lagrangian and gauge transformations, admissible by Lorentz covariance and gauge invariance and containing some number of arbitrary coefficients, and require the gauge invariance of the deformed theory in first order in strength. It yields the equations for the coefficients which are exactly solved. As a result, the complete interacting Lagrangian of arbitrary bosonic higher-spin fields with constant electromagnetic field in first order in electromagnetic strength is obtained. Causality of massive spin-2 and spin-3 fields propagation in the corresponding electromagnetic background is proved.  相似文献

In this paper, a solution is developed to calculate the electric field at one point in space due to an electric dipole exciting an arbitrarily shaped dielectric body of revolution (BOR). Specifically, the electric field is determined from the solution of coupled surface integral equations (SIE) for the induced surface electric and magnetic currents on the dielectric body excited by an elementary electric current dipole source. Both the interior and exterior fields to the dielectric BOR may be accurately evaluated via this approach. For a highly lossy dielectric body, the numerical Green's function is also obtainable from an approximate integral equation (AIE) based on a surface boundary condition. If this equation is solved by the method of moments, significant numerical efficiency over SIE is realized. Numerical results obtained by both SIE and AIE approaches agree with the exact solution for the special case of a dielectric sphere. With this numerical Green's function, the complicated radiation and scattering problems in the presence of an arbitrarily shaped dielectric BOR are readily solvable by the method of moments.  相似文献

The basic theory underlying the realization of simple multiple-band non-homogeneous dielectric resonators, whose spectral response is the overlap of single-resonator frequency bands, is developed exploiting a general approach discussed in the previous companion paper. The limit frequencies of the proposed devices, given only by the dielectric properties of the involved materials, can differ in principle by several decades. Experimental confirmations have been obtained on a composite structure built up with teflon and polyethylene; as predicted by the theory, the overall band includes frequencies which range about from 20 GHz to more than 400 GHz, when high frequency resonances are selectively excited. The localization of the higher frequency radiation between the positive steps of the dielectric constant, which is the basic properties of these non-homogeneous resonators, has been experimentally verified by mapping the electromagnetic field intensity. Possible applications of multiple-band Whispering Gallery dielectric resonators are finally outlined.  相似文献

General formulas for computing the radiation force exerted on arbitrarily oriented and arbitrarily shaped nonspherical particles due to scattering, absorption, and emission of electromagnetic radiation are derived. For randomly oriented particles with a plane of symmetry, the formula for the average radiation force caused by the particle response to external illumination reduces to the standard Debye formula derived from the Lorenz–Mie theory, whereas the average radiation force caused by emission vanishes.  相似文献

The analytic asymptotic expressions for the Casimir free energy, pressure and entropy at low temperature in the configuration of one metal and one dielectric plate are obtained. For this purpose we develop the perturbation theory in a small parameter proportional to the product of the separation between the plates and the temperature. This is done using both the simplified model of an ideal metal and of a dielectric with constant dielectric permittivity and for the realistic case of the metal and dielectric with frequency-dependent dielectric permittivities. The analytic expressions for all related physical quantities at high temperature are also provided. The obtained analytic results are compared with numerical computations and good agreement is found. We demonstrate for the first time that the Lifshitz theory, when applied to the configuration of metal-dielectric, satisfies the requirements of thermodynamics if the static dielectric permittivity of a dielectric plate is finite. If it is infinitely large, the Lifshitz formula is shown to violate the Nernst heat theorem. The implications of these results for the thermal quantum field theory in Matsubara formulation and for the recent measurements of the Casimir force between metal and semiconductor surfaces are discussed.  相似文献

本文通过对高介电常数介质基于介质谐振器理论进行分析,明确了利用高介电常数介质产生负介电常数或负磁导率的途径在于介质中产生具有Lorentz谐振形式的电磁响应的电偶极子或磁偶极子,指出了这种偶极子的产生来源于电磁波在介质中形成的驻波,而左手通带的形成正是由于电偶极子和磁偶极子之间的相互影响,破坏了驻波形成的条件所实现的. 模拟结果表明,通过将尺寸相同,介电常数不同的介质进行组合,使二者电谐振和磁谐振的频率点重合从而实现左手通带,最后利用高介电常数,低损耗的陶瓷进行样品制作并测试,测试结果证实了基于这一原理实 关键词: 全介质左手材料 介质谐振器 磁偶极子 电偶极子  相似文献

It is shown that when a circular resonator is deformed in a nonintegrable way, a symmetry breaking of escaping rays occurs which can dramatically modulate the outgoing wave even for small perturbations. The underlying mechanism does not occur in integrable models for which the ray families can be computed exactly and is described in this Letter on the basis of canonical perturbation theory. Emission from deformed resonators is currently of immense practical interest in the context of whispering-gallery optical resonances of dielectric cavities, and the approach outlined here promises simple analytical characterizations in the important case of small deformations.  相似文献

在金属板与电介质材料板基底间插入色散特异材料板形成三明治结构,并对其Casimir作用力进行了研究.基于Casimir-Lifshitz理论,通过麦克斯韦应力张量计算了真空涨落的辐射压,并对三明治结构利用电磁模式传输矩阵方法进行了数值计算分析.计算结果表明,原本两板结构中存在的Casimir吸引力,在插入特异材料板后的三明治结构中将转变为斥力,从而使轻薄的金属板产生量子悬浮效应。讨论了特异材料板的色散电磁响应特性以及电介质板基底的影响,结果表明特异材料磁等离子频率越大、磁共振频率越小以及电介质板基底的介电常数越小时,三明治结构中获得的斥力越大.此外,板间距增加到一定范围时,三明治结构中将出现Casimir平衡回复力.特异材料填充因子越小、三明治结构中层距和层厚越大时,三明治结构间的回复力会出现在较长距的位置.三明治结构中的量子悬浮效应与平衡回复力可保证微纳米机械系统稳定性,展现出基于真空辐射压的应用前景.  相似文献

针对复合材料的微观结构非均匀和各向异性特点带来的数值方法计算慢、内存消耗大的问题,利用均匀化方法计算纤维增强复合材料的等效电磁参数.采用了纤维低体积添加比至高体积添加比的迭代方法,同时提出了一个描述材料微观结构的修正的特征长度,将现有的均匀化方法推广至非准静态(微波频段)条件下高纤维浓度情况.提出的修正的均匀化模型可直接用于反射系数、屏蔽效能等计算,其屏蔽效能与实际微观结构复合材料的数值仿真结果进行了对比,验证了提出的等效电磁参数计算公式的有效性和频率适用范围.  相似文献

New techniques for evaluating the closed time path effective action for non-equilibrium quantum fields are presented. A derivative expansion is performed using a proper time kernel. Applications relevant to the scalar field theory of thermal inflation are discussed and dissipation terms resummed. The effective action of the electromagnetic field is also considered. In this case the leading term can be related to the conductivity of a plasma and has a simple interpretation in terms of the classical Drude theory of conductivity.  相似文献
