The vibration and instability of a single-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) under a general magnetic field are of particular interest to researchers. Using nonlocal Rayleigh beam theory and Maxwell’s equations, the dimensionless governing equations pertinent to the free vibration of a SWCNT due to a general magnetic field were derived. The effects of the longitudinal and transverse magnetic fields on the longitudinal and flexural frequencies as well as their corresponding phase velocities were addressed and are discussed below. The critical transverse magnetic field (CTMF) associated with the lateral buckling of the SWCNT was obtained. The obtained results reveal that the CTMF increases with the longitudinally induced magnetic field. Further, its value decreases as the effect of the small-scale parameter increases.  相似文献

A double shell-Stokes flow model is developed to study the axisymmetric vibration of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) immerged in water. In contrast to macroscopic solid-liquid system, a submerged SWCNT is coupled with surrounding water via the van der Waals interaction. It is shown that this unique feature substantially reduces viscous damping of the axisymmetric radial, longitudinal and torsional vibrations and significantly up-shifts the frequency of the radial vibration of an SWCNT. The study offers a theoretical explanation for the experimental observation and molecular dynamics simulations available in particular cases, and provides an efficient modelling tool and useful guidance for the study of the general dynamic behaviour of SWCNTs in a fluid.  相似文献

In this paper, an active control scheme for an axially moving string system that suppresses both longitudinal and transverse vibrations and regulates the transport velocity of the string to track a desired moving velocity profile is investigated. The control scheme utilizes three inputs: one control force at the right boundary, which is exerted by a hydraulic actuator equipped with a damper, and two control torques applied at the left and right rollers. The equations of motion are derived by using Hamilton's principle. Two nonlinear partial differential equations govern the longitudinal and transverse motions, where the variation of the tension of the string due to the transverse and longitudinal vibrations is considered. Among four boundary conditions, two describe the rotational dynamics of the left and right rollers; one determines the dynamics of the hydraulic actuator at the right boundary, and the last one denotes that the left boundary is fixed. The Lyapunov method is employed to generate control laws. Asymptotic stability of the transverse and longitudinal dynamics and the velocity tracking error is achieved. The effectiveness of the proposed control scheme is illustrated via numerical simulations.  相似文献

The longitudinal and transverse displacements of an almost axially impacted two-degree-of-freedom viscoelastic cantilever column model have been determined experimentally. Cases for various ratios of natural frequencies of transverse to longitudinal vibrations and for different small angles of incidence have been investigated. The results obtained are compared with results of theoretical analysis. Good agreement is found.  相似文献

The potential application of SWCNTs as mass nanosensors is examined for a wide range of boundary conditions. The SWCNT is modeled via nonlocal Rayleigh, Timoshenko, and higher-order beam theories. The added nano-objects are considered as rigid solids, which are attached to the SWCNT. The mass weight and rotary inertial effects of such nanoparticles are appropriately incorporated into the nonlocal equations of motion of each model. The discrete governing equation pertinent to each model is obtained using an effective meshless technique. The key factor in design of a mass nanosensor is to determine the amount of frequency shift due to the added nanoparticles. Through an inclusive parametric study, the roles of slenderness ratio of the SWCNT, small-scale parameter, mass weight, number of the attached nanoparticles, and the boundary conditions of the SWCNT on the frequency shift ratio of the first flexural vibration mode of the SWCNT as a mass sensor are also discussed.  相似文献

Free dynamic analysis of transverse motion of vertically aligned stocky ensembles of single-walled carbon nanotubes is of particular interest. A linear model is developed to take into account the van der Waals forces between adjacent SWCNTs because of their bidirectional transverse displacements. Using Hamilton's principle, the discrete equations of motion of free vibration of the nanostructure are obtained based on the nonlocal Rayleigh, Timoshenko, and higher-order beam theories. The application of such discrete models for frequency analysis of highly populated ensembles would be associated with so much computational effort. To overcome such a problem, some useful nonlocal continuous models are established. The obtained results reveal that the newly developed models can successfully capture the predicted fundamental frequencies of the discrete models. Through various numerical studies, the roles of slenderness ratio, radius of the SWCNT, small-scale parameter, population of the ensemble, and intertube distance on the fundamental flexural frequency of the nanostructure are examined and discussed. The capabilities of the proposed nonlocal continuous models in predicting flexural frequencies of the nanostructure are also addressed.  相似文献

A new elastic nonlocal stress model and analytical solutions are developed for torsional dynamic behaviors of circular nanorods/nanotubes. Unlike the previous approaches which directly substitute the nonlocal stress into the equations of motion, this new model begins with the derivation of strain energy using the nonlocal stress and by considering the nonlinear history of straining. The variational principle is applied to derive an infinite-order differential nonlocal equation of motion and the corresponding higher-order boundary conditions which contain a nonlocal nanoscale parameter. Subsequently, free torsional vibration of nanorods/nanotubes and axially moving nanorods/nanotubes are investigated in detail. Unlike the previous conclusions of reduced vibration frequency, the solutions indicate that natural frequency for free torsional vibration increases with increasing nonlocal nanoscale. Furthermore, the critical speed for torsional vibration of axially moving nanorods/nanotubes is derived and it is concluded that this critical speed is significantly influenced by the nonlocal nanoscale.  相似文献

Free vibration and stability are investigated for a cantilever beam attached to an axially moving base in fluid. The equations of motion of the slender cantilever beam affiliated to an axially moving base at a known rate while immersed in an incompressible fluid are derived first. An “axially added mass coefficient” is taken into account in the obtained equations. Then, a coordinate transformation is introduced to fix the boundaries. Based on the Galerkin approach, the natural frequencies of the beam system are numerically analyzed. The effects of moving speed of the base and several other system parameters on the dynamics and stability of the beam are discussed in detail. It is found that when the moving speed exceeds a certain value the beam becomes unstable and the instability type is sensitive to the system parameters. When the values of system parameters, such as mass ratio and axially added mass coefficient, are big enough, however, no instabilities are detected. The variations of the lowest unstable critical moving speed with respect to several key parameters are also investigated.  相似文献

The effect of longitudinal magnetic field on vibration response of a sing-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) embedded in viscoelastic medium is investigated. Based on nonlocal Euler-Bernoulli beam theory, Maxwell’s relations, and Kelvin viscoelastic foundation model, the governing equations of motion for vibration analysis are established. The complex natural frequencies and corresponding mode shapes in closed form for the embedded SWCNT with arbitrary boundary conditions are obtained using transfer function method (TFM). The new analytical expressions for the complex natural frequencies are also derived for certain typical boundary conditions and Kelvin-Voigt model. Numerical results from the model are presented to show the effects of nonlocal parameter, viscoelastic parameter, boundary conditions, aspect ratio, and strength of the magnetic field on vibration characteristics for the embedded SWCNT in longitudinal magnetic field. The results demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed methods for vibration analysis of embedded SWCNTs under magnetic field.  相似文献

Torsional mechanics of single walled carbon nanotubes(SWCNTs) encapsulated with hydrogen molecules was investigated in this study, using the molecular dynamics(MD) simulation approach. The torsional properties of hydrogen stored SWCNTs were crucial for determining the durability and lifetime of SWNCTs-based energy storage and proton exchange membrane fuel cell(PEMFC) applications. The influence of hydrogen storage concentration, SWCNT geometry, vacancy defects, temperature variation and varying boundaries of rotated as well as fixed groups on the torsional mechanics of SWCNT was investigated. The results and conclusions provide an insight into the torsional properties of SWCNTs with hydrogen storage that could be used for the development of SWCNTs-based hydrogen storage devices and PEMFC applications.  相似文献

Mechanism of Carbon Nanotubes Aligning along Applied Electric Field   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1       下载免费PDF全文
The mechanism of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) aligning in the direction of external electric field is studied by quantum mechanics calculations. The rotational torque on the carbon nanotubes is proportional to the difference between the longitudinal and transverse polarizabilities and varies with the angle of SWCNTs to the external electric field. The longitudinal polarizability increases with second power of length, while the transverse polarizability increases linearly with length. A zigzag SWCNT has larger longitudinal and transverse polarizabilities than an armchair SWCNT with the same diameter and the discrepancy becomes larger for longer tubes.  相似文献

The vibration of elastic thin nanoplates traversed by a moving nanoparticle involving Coulomb friction is investigated using the nonlocal continuum theory of Eringen. The eigen function technique and the Laplace transform method are employed to solve the governing equations of the nanoplate. The explicit expressions of the in-plane and transverse displacements are obtained when the moving nanoparticle traverses the nanoplate on an arbitrary straight line. In a special case, the obtained results are also compared with those of other researchers and a reasonably good agreement is achieved. The effects of small-scale parameters and velocity of the moving nanoparticle on the dynamic response as well as the dynamic amplitude factors (DAFs) of the in-plane and transverse displacements are then explored in some detail. The results indicate that the magnitude of DAF of the transverse displacement of the nanoplate (i.e., DAFw) increases with the first small-scale effect parameter, irrespective of the values of the second small-scale effect parameter and the velocity of the moving nanoparticle. As the first small-scale effect parameter grows, the maximum values of DAFw as a function of the moving nanoparticle velocity increase and generally occur in the lower levels of the moving nanoparticle velocity.  相似文献

This study deals with transverse vibrations of two adjacent-parallel-mislocated single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) under various end conditions. These tubes interact with each other and their surrounding medium through the intertube van der Waals (vdW) forces, and existing bonds between their atoms and those of the elastic medium. The elastic energy of such forces due to the deflections of nanotubes is appropriately modeled by defining a vdW force density function. In the previous works, vdW forces between two identical tubes were idealized by a uniform form of this function. The newly introduced function enables us to investigate the influences of both intertube free distance and longitudinal mislocation on the natural transverse frequencies of the nanosystem which consists of two dissimilar tubes. Such crucial issues have not been addressed yet, even for simply supported tubes. Using nonlocal Timoshenko and higher-order beam theories as well as Hamilton's principle, the strong form of the equations of motion is established. Seeking for an explicit solution to these integro-partial differential equations is a very problematic task. Thereby, an energy-based method in conjunction with an efficient meshfree method is proposed and the nonlocal frequencies of the elastically embedded nanosystem are determined. For simply supported nanosystems, the predicted first five frequencies of the proposed model are checked with those of assumed mode method, and a reasonably good agreement is achieved. Through various studies, the roles of the tube's length ratio, intertube free space, mislocation, small-scale effect, slenderness ratio, radius of SWCNTs, and elastic constants of the elastic matrix on the natural frequencies of the nanosystem with various end conditions are explained. The limitations of the nonlocal Timoshenko beam theory are also addressed. This work can be considered as a vital step towards better realizing of a more complex system that consists of vertically aligned SWCNTs of various lengths.  相似文献

The mechanical properties and failure process of single-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) under combined electric field and tensile loading are investigated using the semi-empirical quantum mechanical method. The local and global structural deformation and variation of mechanical properties of SWCNT under different directions and intensity of external electric field are discussed systematically. It is shown that the electric field induced deformation in the radial and axial directions of the SWCNT are strongly dependent on the direction of electric field. The analysis of mechanical properties shows that the structure stiffness, tensile strength and failure strain of the SWCNT all decrease with the increase of the field intensity, which is particularly evident under the longitudinal electric field. The Young's modulus of SWCNTs vary with the tube diameter and are affected by the electric field. The increase of the length of the tubes intensifies the charge concentration at the tube ends under the electric field and lead to the decrease of mechanical properties of SWCNTs. The failure process of SWCNTs under the coupling effect of electric field and tensile loading is found to be controlled by the field strength and also affected by the electric charge accumulation.  相似文献

This paper investigates active vibration suppression of a single-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) under the action of a moving harmonic load using Eringen’s nonlocal elasticity theory. The SWCNT is modeled according to the nonlocal Euler–Bernoulli beam theory. A Dirac-delta function is used to describe the position of the moving load along the SWCNT. Next, a linear classical optimal control algorithm with displacement-velocity feedback is used to suppress vibration in the SWCNT with control forces acting as actuators. The effects of a small-scale parameter, slenderness ratio, moving load velocity, and the excitation frequency of a moving load on the dynamic deflection of the SWCNT are examined. Finally, the ability of the control algorithm to suppress the response of the SWCNT under the effects of a moving load with a number of controlled modes and control forces is surveyed.  相似文献

Nowadays, carbon nanotubes (CNT) play an important role in practical applications in fluidic devices. To this end, researchers have studied various aspects of vibration analysis of a behavior of CNT conveying fluid. In this paper, based on nonlocal elasticity theory, single-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) is simulated. To investigate and analyze the effect of internal fluid flow on the longitudinal vibration and stability of SWCNT, the equation of motion for longitudinal vibration is obtained by using Navier-Stokes equations. In the governing equation of motion, the interaction of fluid-structure, dynamic and fluid flow velocity along the axial coordinate of the nanotube and the nano-scale effect of the structure are considered. To solve the nonlocal longitudinal vibration equation, the approximate Galerkin method is employed and appropriate simply supported boundary conditions are applied. The results show that the axial vibrations of the nanotubesstrongly depend on the small-size effect. In addition, the fluid flowing in nanotube causes a decrease in the natural frequency of the system. It is obvious that the system natural frequencies reach zero at lower critical flow velocities as the wave number increases. Moreover, the critical flow velocity decreases as the nonlocal parameter increases.  相似文献

The effects of nickel coating on the torsional behaviors of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) subject to torsion motion are investigated using the molecular dynamics (MD) simulation method. The simulation results show that regardless of chirality, defect or radius, nickel coating can considerably enhance the critical torque of SWCNTs. However, by comparing the critical torsion angle between nickel-coated SWCNTs and corresponding pristine SWCNTs, it is found that nickel coating in small-radius nanotubes does induce a reduction in the critical torsion angle. The results also show that the structural failure of nickel coated imperfect (9,0) SWCNT occurs at an obviously higher critical torque in comparison with uncoated (9,0) SWCNT with a vacancy defect. Furthermore, we also find that the critical torque of a short nickel coated SWCNT is bigger than that of a long one, while the critical torsion angle for a short tube is smaller than that for a long one.  相似文献

In this paper, the bifurcations and chaotic motions of higher-dimensional nonlinear systems are investigated for the nonplanar nonlinear vibrations of an axially accelerating moving viscoelastic beam. The Kelvin viscoelastic model is chosen to describe the viscoelastic property of the beam material. Firstly, the nonlinear governing equations of nonplanar motion for an axially accelerating moving viscoelastic beam are established by using the generalized Hamilton’s principle for the first time. Then, based on the Galerkin’s discretization, the governing equations of nonplanar motion are simplified to a six-degree-of-freedom nonlinear system and a three-degree-of-freedom nonlinear system with parametric excitation, respectively. At last, numerical simulations, including the Poincare map, phase portrait and Lyapunov exponents are used to analyze the complex nonlinear dynamic behaviors of the axially accelerating moving viscoelastic beam. The bifurcation diagrams for the in-plane and out-of-plane displacements via the mean axial velocity, the amplitude of velocity fluctuation and the frequency of velocity fluctuation are respectively presented when other parameters are fixed. The Lyapunov exponents are calculated to identify the existence of the chaotic motions. From the numerical results, it is indicated that the periodic, quasi-periodic and chaotic motions occur for the nonplanar nonlinear vibrations of the axially accelerating moving viscoelastic beam. Observing the in-plane nonlinear vibrations of the axially accelerating moving viscoelastic beam from the numerical results, it is found that the nonlinear responses of the six-degree-of-freedom nonlinear system are much different from that of the three-degree-of-freedom nonlinear system when all parameters are same.  相似文献

Dispersion relation of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) is investigated. The governing equations of motion of SWCNTs are derived on the basis of the gradient shell model, which involves one strain gradient and one higher order inertia parameters in addition to two Lamé constants. The present shell model can predict wave dispersion in good agreement with those of molecular dynamic (MD) simulations available in the literature. The effects of two small scale parameters on the angular frequency and phase velocity in the longitudinal, torsional and radial directions are studied in detail. The numerical results show that the angular frequency and phase velocity increase with the increase of strain gradient parameter, whereas decrease with inertia gradient parameter increases. In addition, analytical expressions of the cut-off frequencies and asymptotic phase velocities are given. It is found that the number of cut-off frequencies is dependent on the circumferential wave number, and two asymptotic phase velocities exist for nonzero value of strain gradient parameter, while only one exists when the strain gradient parameter is excluded.  相似文献
