Let ξ be a real-valued random variable of mean zero and variance 1. Let M n (ξ) denote the n × n random matrix whose entries are iid copies of ξ and σ n (M n (ξ)) denote the least singular value of M n (ξ). The quantity σ n (M n (ξ))2 is thus the least eigenvalue of the Wishart matrix MnMn*{M_nM_n^\ast}.  相似文献

Circularm-functions are introduced on smooth manifolds with boundary. We study the distribution of their critical circles and construct an example of a four-dimensional manifoldM 4 with boundary ∂M 4 that satisfies the condition ξ(∂M 4)=ξ(M 4,∂M 4)=0 but does not contain any circularm-function. We prove that a manifold with boundaryM n (n≥5) such that ξ(∂M n , ∂M n )=0 always contains a circularm-function without critical points in the interior manifold. We study the natural almost CR structure on the total space of a subbundle of hyperquadrics of the tangent bundle T(M) over a semi-Riemannian manifold (M, g) and show that if the Reeb vector ξ of an almost contact Riemannian manifold is a CR map then the natural almost CR structure on M is strictly pseudoconvex and a posteriori ξ is pseudohermitian. If in addition ξ is geodesic then it is a harmonic vector field. As an other application, we study pseudoharmonic vector fields on a compact strictly pseudoconvex CR manifold M, i.e. unit (with respect to the Webster metric associated with a fixed contact form on M) vector fields X ε H(M) whose horizontal lift X↑ to the canonical circle bundle S1 → C(M) → M is a critical point of the Dirichlet energy functional associated to the Fefferman metric (a Lorentz metric on C(M)). We show that the Euler–Lagrange equations satisfied by X project on a nonlinear system of subelliptic PDEs on M. Mathematics Subject Classifications (2000): 53C50, 53C25, 32V20  相似文献

Summary Let ξ1, ξ2,... be i.i.d random vectors in ℝ k with a common distribution ℒ(ξi),... = F, i = 1, 2,.... Let S n = ξ1+...+ξ n . We investigate how small is the difference between ℒ(S n ) and ℒ(S n+ m ) in the case when ξ i have symmetric distributions.  相似文献

Paracontact and para Sasakian manifoldsM carryingr(1<r≤dimM) Reed vector filds ξ r have been especially studied by A. Bucki [2], [3], [4]. In the present paper, we consider a (2m+2)-dimensional para Sasakian manifoldM(ϕ, ξ r , η r g), whose Reed convectors η r r b are exact 1-forms and the covariant derivatives of ξ r are given by ∇ξ r =f r dp , wheredp means the horizontal component of the soldering formdp andf r∈CM satisfydf r =cη r ,c=constant. It is proved that such a manifold may be viewed as the local Riemannian productM=M ×M, where
i)  M is a flat surface tangent to ξ r ;
ii)  M is a pseudo-umbilical 2m-dimensional submanifold, having ξ=f r ξ r as mean curvature vector field.
It is pointed-out thatM can not be compact. Some distinguished vector fields onM are constructed and infinitesimal transformations induced by them on the Lie algebra are discussed.  相似文献

Let Sn(c) denote the n-dimensional Euclidean sphere of constant sectional curvature c and denote by CPn(c) the complex projective space of complex dimension n and of holomorphic sectional curvature c. In this paper, we obtain some characterizations of the manifolds S2(c) × S2(c′), S4(c) × S4(c′), CP2(c) × CP2(c′) by their spectrum.  相似文献

LetW be an algebraically closed filed of characteristic zero, letK be an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero, complete for an ultrametric absolute value, and letA(K) (resp. ℳ(K)) be the set of entire (resp. meromorphic) functions inK. For everyn≥7, we show that the setS n(b) of zeros of the polynomialx nb (b≠0) is such that, iff, gW[x] or iff, gA(K), satisfyf −1(S n(b))=g −1(S n(b)), thenf n=g n. For everyn≥14, we show thatS n(b) is such that iff, gW({tx}) or iff, g ∈ ℳ(K) satisfyf −1(S n(b))=g −1(S n(b)), then eitherf n=g n, orfg is a constant. Analogous properties are true for complex entire and meromorphic functions withn≥8 andn≥15, respectively. For everyn≥9, we show that the setY n(c) of zeros of the polynomial , (withc≠0 and 1) is an ursim ofn points forW[x], and forA(K). For everyn≥16, we show thatY n(c) is an ursim ofn points forW(x), and for ℳ(K). We follow a method based on thep-adic Nevanlinna Theory and use certain improvement of a lemma obtained by Frank and Reinders.  相似文献

In this work we generalize the case of scalar curvature zero the results of Simmons (Ann. Math. 88 (1968), 62–105) for minimal cones in Rn+1. If Mn−1 is a compact hypersurface of the sphere Sn(1) we represent by C(M)ε the truncated cone based on M with center at the origin. It is easy to see that M has zero scalar curvature if and only if the cone base on M also has zero scalar curvature. Hounie and Leite (J. Differential Geom. 41 (1995), 247–258) recently gave the conditions for the ellipticity of the partial differential equation of the scalar curvature. To show that, we have to assume n ⩾ 4 and the three-curvature of M to be different from zero. For such cones, we prove that, for nslant 7 there is an ε for which the truncate cone C(M)ε is not stable. We also show that for n ⩾ 8 there exist compact, orientable hypersurfaces Mn−1 of the sphere with zero scalar curvature and S3 different from zero, for which all truncated cones based on M are stable. We prove that the number of elliptic curves E/ℚ with conductorN isO(N 1/2+ε). More generally, we prove that the number of elliptic curves E/ℚ with good reduction outsideS isO(M 1/2+ε), whereM is the product of the primes inS. Assuming various standard conjectures, we show that this bound can be improved toO(M c/loglogM ). Research partially supported by NSF DMS-9424642.  相似文献

In this paper, we are interested in extending the study of spherical curves in R 3 to the submanifolds in the Euclidean space R n+p . More precisely, we are interested in obtaining conditions under which an n-dimensional compact submanifold M of a Euclidean space R n+p lies on the hypersphere S n+p−1(c) (standardly imbedded sphere in R n+p of constant curvature c). As a by-product we also get an estimate on the first nonzero eigenvalue of the Laplacian operator Δ of the submanifold (cf. Theorem 3.5) as well as a characterization for an n-dimensional sphere S n (c) (cf. Theorem 4.1).  相似文献

Perturbations by analytic discs along generating CR-submanifolds of Cn are considered. In the case all partial indices of a closed pathp in a generating CR-fibration {M(ξ)}ξ∈∂D are greater or equal to −1 we can completely parametrize all small holomorphic perturbations of the pathp along the fibration {M(ξ)}ξ∈∂D . In this case we also study the geometry of perturbations by analytic discs and their relation to the conormal bundle of the fibration.  相似文献

LetG(n,k) denote the space (with the compact-open topology) of homeomorphisms ofR n which are fixed onR k. Theorem 1:G(n, n−2) deforms inG(n, 0) toO(2), whereO(2) is the orthogonal group. Corollary 2: (forn=2) the Kneser theorems. Corollary 3: A EuclideanR n bundleξ n overS m(m≦∞) which contains anR n−2 subbundleξ n − 2 is isomorphic, as aG(n,0) bundle, to a Whitney sumξ n − 2ξ 2. Corollary 4: (n−2) stable homeomorphisms ofR n orS n are (n−1) stable, hence stable if orientation preserving. We study holomorphically planar conformal vector fields (HPCV) on contact metric manifolds under some curvature conditions. In particular, we have studied HPCV fields on (i) contact metric manifolds with pointwise constant ξ-sectional curvature (under this condition M is either K-contact or V is homothetic), (ii) Einstein contact metric manifolds (in this case M becomes K contact), (iii) contact metric manifolds with parallel Ricci tensor (under this condition M is either K-contact Einstein or is locally isometric to E n+1×S n (4)).  相似文献

LetM n (n>3) be a closed minimal hypersurface with constant scalar curvature in the unit sphereS n+1 (1) andS the square of the length of its second fundamental form. In this paper we prove thatS>n implies estimates of the formS>n+cn−d withc≥1/4. For example, forn>17 andS>n we proveS>n+1/4n which is sharper than a recent result of the authors [5] The second author's research was supported by NNSFC, FECC and CPSF.  相似文献

We derive the integral inequality of a Randers metric with isotropic S-curvature in terms of its navigation representation. Using the obtained inequality we give some rigidity results under the condition of Ricci curvature. In particular, we show the following result: Assume that an n-dimensional compact Randers manifold (M, F) has constant S-curvature c. Then (M, F) must be Riemannian if its Ricci curvature satisfies that Ric 〈 -(n - 1)c^2.  相似文献

Let CP n be the n-dimensional complex projective space with the Study-Fubini metric of constant holomorphic sectional curvature 4 and let M be a compact, orientable, n-dimensional totally real minimal submanifold of CP n . In this paper we prove the following results.
(a)  If M is 6-dimensional, conformally flat and has non negative Euler number and constant scalar curvature τ, 0<τ ≦ 70/3, then M is locally isometric to S 1,5 :=S 1 (sin θ cos θ) × S 5 (sin θ), tan θ = √6.
(b)  If M is 4-dimensional, has parallel second fundamental form and scalar curvature τ ≧ 15/2, then M is locally isometric to S 1,3 :=S 1 (sin θ cos θ) × S 3 (sinθ), tan θ=2, or it is totally geodesic.

We study isoperimetric regions on Riemannian manifolds of the form (M n × (0, π), sin2(t)gdt 2) where g is a metric of positive Ricci curvature ≥ n − 1. When g is an Einstein metric we use this to compute the Yamabe constant of (M ×\mathbbR, g+ dt2 ){(M \times \mathbb{R}, g+ dt^2 )} and so to obtain lower bounds for the Yamabe invariant of M × S 1.  相似文献

Let (A,D(A)) be the infinitesimal generator of a Feller semigroup such that C c (ℝ n )⊂D(A) and A|C c (ℝ n ) is a pseudo-differential operator with symbol −p(x,ξ) satisfying |p(•,ξ)|c(1+|ξ|2) and |Imp(x,ξ)|≤c 0Rep(x,ξ). We show that the associated Feller process {X t } t ≥0 on ℝ n is a semimartingale, even a homogeneous diffusion with jumps (in the sense of [21]), and characterize the limiting behaviour of its trajectories as t→0 and ∞. To this end, we introduce various indices, e.g., β x :={λ>0:lim |ξ|→∞ | x y |≤2/|ξ||p(y,ξ)|/|ξ|λ=0} or δ x :={λ>0:liminf |ξ|→∞ | x y |≤2/|ξ| |ε|≤1|p(y,|ξ|ε)|/|ξ|λ=0}, and obtain a.s. (ℙ x ) that lim t →0 t −1/λ s t |X s x|=0 or ∞ according to λ>β x or λ<δ x . Similar statements hold for the limit inferior and superior, and also for t→∞. Our results extend the constant-coefficient (i.e., Lévy) case considered by W. Pruitt [27]. Received: 21 July 1997 / Revised version: 26 January 1998  相似文献

For a locally compact group G, the measure convolution algebra M(G) carries a natural coproduct. In previous work, we showed that the canonical predual C 0(G) of M(G) is the unique predual which makes both the product and the coproduct on M(G) weak*-continuous. Given a discrete semigroup S, the convolution algebra 1(S) also carries a coproduct. In this paper we examine preduals for 1(S) making both the product and the coproduct weak*-continuous. Under certain conditions on S, we show that 1(S) has a unique such predual. Such S include the free semigroup on finitely many generators. In general, however, this need not be the case even for quite simple semigroups and we construct uncountably many such preduals on 1(S) when S is either ℤ+×ℤ or (ℕ,⋅).  相似文献
