Molybdenum sulfide (MoS2) is considered as an alternative material for commercial platinum catalysts for electrocatalytic hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). Improving the apparent HER activity of MoS2 to a level comparable to that of Pt is an essential premise for the commercial use of MoS2. In this work, a Zn-doping strategy is proposed to enhance the HER performance of MoS2. It is shown that tiny Zn doping into MoS2 leads to the enhancement of the electrochemical surface area, increases in proportion of HER active 1T phase in the material and formation of catalytic sites of higher intrinsic activity. These benefits result in a high-performance HER electrocatalyst with a low overpotential of 190 mV(@10 mA cm−2) and a low Tafel slope of 58 mV dec−1. The origin for the excellent electrochemical performance of the doped MoS2 is rationalized with both experimental and theoretical investigations.  相似文献

Typically, rational interfacial engineering can effectively modify the adsorption energy of active hydrogen molecules to improve water splitting efficiency. NiFe layered double hydroxide (NiFe LDH) composite, an efficient oxygen evolution reaction (OER) catalyst, suffers from slow hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) kinetics, restricting its application for overall water splitting. Herein, we construct the hierarchical MoS2/NiFe LDH nanosheets with a heterogeneous interface used for HER and OER. Benefiting the hierarchical heterogeneous interface optimized hydrogen Gibbs free energy, tens of exposed active sites, rapid mass- and charge-transfer processes, the MoS2/NiFe LDH displays a highly efficient synergistic electrocatalytic effect. The MoS2/NiFe LDH electrode in 1 mol/L KOH exhibits excellent HER activity, only 98 mV overpotential at 10 mA/cm2. Significantly, when it assembled as anode and cathode for overall water splitting, only 1.61 V cell voltage was required to achieve 10 mA/cm2 with excellent durability (50 h).  相似文献

A novel MoS2 quantum dots/CoSe2 nanosheet (MoS2 QDs/CoSe2) hybrid with 0D/2D heterostructure has been developed. The CoSe2 nanosheets (NSs) enable an excellent oxygen evolution reaction (OER) activity with increasing vacancy configuration on one hand, while the MoS2 QDs serve as an eminent hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) catalyst on the other. By integrating MoS2 QDs and CoSe2 NSs, the hybrid exhibits excellent electrocatalytic performances in HER and OER. The unique 0D/2D hetero‐interface increases the exposed active sites and facilitates electron transfer, thereby boosting the electrocatalytic activity. Relatively low overpotentials of 82 mV and 280 mV are required to drive the current density of 10 mA/cm2 for HER and OER, with corresponding Tafel slopes of 69 and 75 mV/dec, respectively. As such, this work provides an efficient yet simple approach to construct bifunctional electrocatalysts with enhanced activity and stability.  相似文献

Two‐dimensional transition‐metal dichalcogenides have been widely studied as electrocatalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). However, limited active sites and poor conductivity hinder their application. To solve these disadvantages, heteroatom doping has attracted wide attention because it can not only increase the active sites but also affect the intrinsic catalytic properties of the electrocatalyst. Herein, we grew vanadium‐doped WS2 nanosheets on carbon cloth (V‐WS2/CC) as an electrocatalyst for HER under acidic and alkaline conditions. With a proper vanadium doping concentration, the electrochemical surface areas of V0.065‐WS2/CC were 9.6 and 2.6 times as large as that of pure WS2 electrocatalyst under acidic and alkaline conditions, respectively. In addition, the charge‐transfer resistance also decreased with moderate vanadium doping. Based on this, the synthesized vanadium‐doped WS2 nanosheets exhibited good stability with high HER catalytic activity and could reach a current density of 10 mA cm−2 at overpotentials of 148 and 134 mV in 0.5 m H2SO4 and 1 m KOH, respectively. The corresponding Tafel slopes were 71 and 85 mV dec−1. Therefore, our synthesized vanadium‐doped WS2 nanosheets can be a promising electrocatalyst for the production of hydrogen over a wide pH range.  相似文献

Au nanoparticles were decorated on a 2H MoS2 surface to form an Au/MoS2 composite by pulse laser deposition. Improved HER activity of Au/MoS2 is evidenced by a positively shifted overpotential (−77 mV) at a current density of −10 mA cm−2 compared with pure MoS2 nanosheets. Experimental evidence shows that the interface between Au and MoS2 provides more sites to combine protons to form an active H atom. The density functional theory calculations found that new Au active sites on the Au and MoS2 interface with improved conductivity of the whole system are essential for enhancing HER activity of Au/MoS2.  相似文献

The electrocatalytic hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) is a sustainable energy production route using green chemistry. Transition metal dichalcogenides' application in catalytic hydrogen production is limited due to a lack of solutions that simultaneously address intrinsic activity, increased surface area, electrical conductivity, and stability problems. Herein we address these issues simultaneously by modifying the electronic structure of molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) nanorods using a low content of Pd (1 wt% and 2 wt%) dopant via a facile colloidal solvothermal route. The resulting MoS2 nanorods doped with (1 and 2 wt%) palladium demonstrate current density of 100 mA/cm2 at quit lower over-potentials of 137 mV and 119 mV than 273 mV for pure MoS2 nanorods, accompanied by high stability. This research proposes a strategy for designing high-performance HER electrocatalysts that work in acidic medium. In addition, the Tafel slop calculated for MoS2 is 112 mV/dec whereas for 1 and 2 wt% Pd-MoS2, the Tafel slopes are 70 mV/dec and 46 mV/dec.  相似文献

An Ru-doping strategy is reported to substantially improve both hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) electrocatalytic activity of Ni/Fe-based metal–organic framework (MOF) for overall water splitting. As-synthesized Ru-doped Ni/Fe MIL-53 MOF nanosheets grown on nickel foam (MIL-53(Ru-NiFe)@NF) afford HER and OER current density of 50 mA cm−2 at an overpotential of 62 and 210 mV, respectively, in alkaline solution with a nominal Ru loading of ≈110 μg cm−2. When using as both anodic and cathodic (pre-)catalyst, MIL-53(Ru-NiFe)@NF enables overall water splitting at a current density of 50 mA cm−2 for a cell voltage of 1.6 V without iR compensation, which is much superior to state-of-the-art RuO2-Pt/C-based electrolyzer. It is discovered that the Ru-doping considerably modulates the growth of MOF to form thin nanosheets, and enhances the intrinsic HER electrocatalytic activity by accelerating the sluggish Volmer step and improving the intermediate oxygen adsorption for increased OER catalytic activity.  相似文献

Molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) has received considerable interest for electrochemical energy storage and conversion. In this work, we have designed and synthesized a unique hybrid hollow structure by growing ultrathin MoS2 nanosheets on N‐doped carbon shells (denoted as C@MoS2 nanoboxes). The N‐doped carbon shells can greatly improve the conductivity of the hybrid structure and effectively prevent the aggregation of MoS2 nanosheets. The ultrathin MoS2 nanosheets could provide more active sites for electrochemical reactions. When evaluated as an anode material for lithium‐ion batteries, these C@MoS2 nanoboxes show high specific capacity of around 1000 mAh g?1, excellent cycling stability up to 200 cycles, and superior rate performance. Moreover, they also show enhanced electrocatalytic activity for the electrochemical hydrogen evolution.  相似文献

Group 6 transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs), such as MoS2 and WS2 have been extensively studied for various applications while few studies have delved into other TMDs such as platinum dichalcogenides. In this work, layered crystalline and amorphous platinum disulfide (PtS2) were synthesized, characterised and their fundamental electrochemical properties were investigated. Both materials exhibited inherent oxidation and reduction reactions which would limit their operating potential window for sensing applications. Amorphous phase materials are considered to be promising electrocatalysts due to the porous, and nanostructured morphology with high concentration of unsaturated active sites. The electrocatalytic performances towards oxygen reduction (ORR) and hydrogen evolution reactions (HER) of crystalline and amorphous PtS2 were analysed. Amorphous PtS2 was found to exhibit superior electrocatalytic performances towards ORR and HER as compared to crystalline PtS2. For HER, amorphous and crystalline PtS2 have overpotential values of 0.30 V and 0.70 V (vs. RHE) at current density of 10 mA cm−2, respectively. The influence of electrochemical reduction pre-treatment on their catalytic behaviours was also investigated. Electrochemical reduction pre-treatment on both crystalline and amorphous PtS2 removed the oxidized sulfate groups and increased the proportion of Pt0 oxidation state which exposed more catalytic sites. As such, these materials were activated and displayed improved ORR and HER performances. Electrochemically reduced amorphous PtS2 outperformed the untreated counterparts and exhibited the best HER performance with overpotential of 0.17 V (vs. RHE) at current density of −10 mA cm−2. These findings provide insights into the electrochemical properties of noble metal PtS2 in both crystalline and amorphous states which can be activated by electrochemical reduction pre-treatment.  相似文献

Molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) has been widely studied as a potential earth‐abundant electrocatalyst for the hydrogen‐evolution reaction (HER). Defect engineering and heteroelemental doping are effective methods to enhance the catalytic activity in the HER, so exploring an efficient route to simultaneously achieve in‐plane vacancy engineering and elemental doping of MoS2 is necessary. In this study, Zinc, a low‐cost and moderately active metal, has been used to realize this strategy by generation of sulfur vacancies and zinc doping on MoS2 in one step. Density functional theory calculations reveal that the zinc atoms not only lower the formation energy of S vacancies, but also help to decrease ΔGH of S‐vacancy sites near the Zn atoms. At an optimal zinc‐reduced MoS2 (Zn@MoS2) example, the activated basal planes contribute to the HER activity with an overpotential of ?194 mV at 10 mA cm?2 and a low Tafel slope of 78 mV/dec.  相似文献

MoS2 nanosheets of one to few layer thickness present novel electronic and enhanced catalytic properties with respect to the bulk material. Here we show that a simple and highly scalable ball-milling procedure can lead to significant improvements of the electrochemical and catalytic properties of the bulk natural MoS2. We characterized the material before and after the milling process by means of scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy in order to evaluate morphological and chemical features. We investigated the electrochemical properties by means of voltammetry techniques to monitor the electron transfer with [Fe(CN)6]4 −/3  redox probe and the catalytic properties by monitoring the electrochemical hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). A significant overpotential lowering of about 210 mV is obtained for the HER by the ball-milled material when compared to bulk materials. This has a huge potential for the lowering of the energy consumption during hydrogen evolution. Ball-milling offers highly scalable dry method for large scale production of electrocatalyst with enhanced properties.  相似文献

Hydrogen energy is considered as one of the ideal clean energies for solving the energy shortage and environmental issues, and developing highly efficient electrocatalysts for overall water splitting to produce hydrogen is still a huge challenge. Herein, for the first time, Ru-doped Cu2+1O vertically arranged nanotube arrays in situ grown on Cu foam (Ru/Cu2+1O NT/CuF) are reported and further investigated for their catalytic properties for overall water splitting. The Ru/Cu2+1O NT/CuF presents ultrahigh catalytic activities for both the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in alkaline conditions, and it exhibits a small overpotential of 32 mV at 10 mA cm−2 in the HER, and only needs 210 mV overpotential to achieve a current density of 10 mA cm−2 in the OER. Importantly, the alkaline electrolyzer using Ru/Cu2+1O NT/CuF as a bifunctional electrocatalyst only needs 1.53 V voltage to deliver a current density of 10 mA cm−2, which is much lower than the benchmark of IrO2(+)/Pt(−) counterpart (1.64 V at 10 mA cm−2). The excellent performance of the Ru/Cu2+1O NT/CuF catalyst is attributed to its high conductive substrate and special Ru-doped nanotube structure, which provides a high electrochemical active surface area and 3D gas diffusion channel.  相似文献

The high cost and low reserves of noble metals greatly hinder their practical applications in new energy production and conversion. The exploration of cost-effective alternative electrocatalysts with the ability to drive hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is extremely significant to promote overall water splitting. Herein, ultrathin CoSe2/CNTs nanocomposites have been synthesized by a facile two-step method, where the ultrathin Co-MOF (metal organic-framework) decorated with cable-like carbon nanotubes (CNTs) (Co-MOF/CNTs) was initially fabricated, and followed a low-temperature selenization process. The ultrathin CoSe2 nanosheets as well as the superior conductivity of CNTs synergistically resulted in abundant active sites and enhanced conductivity to boost the electrocatalytic activity. The as-prepared CoSe2/CNTs electrocatalysts exhibited an overpotential of 190 mV and 300 mV vs. reversible hydrogen electrode (RHE) at a current density of 10 mA/cm2 for the HER and OER in alkaline solution, respectively, and demonstrated superior durability. Furthermore, the as-prepared bifunctional CoSe2/CNTs electrocatalysts can act as cathode and anode in an electrolyzer, showing a cell voltage of 1.75 V at 10 mA/cm2 for overall water splitting.  相似文献

Molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) is one of the most promising alternatives to the Pt-based electrocatalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). However, its performance is currently limited by insufficient active edge sites and poor electron transport. Hence, enormous efforts have been devoted to constructing more active edge sites and improving conductivity to obtain enhanced electrocatalytic performance. Herein, the 3D carbon foam (denoted as CF) supported edge-rich N-doped MoS2 nanoflakes were successfully fabricated by using the commercially available polyurethane foam (PU) as the 3D substrate and PMo12O403− clusters (denoted as PMo12) as the Mo source through redox polymerization, followed by sulfurization. Owing to the uniform distribution of nanoscale Mo sources and 3D carbon foam substrate, the as-prepared MoS2-CF composite possessed well-exposed active edge sites and enhanced electrical conductivity. Systematic investigation demonstrated that the MoS2-CF composite showed high HER performance with a low overpotential of 92 mV in 1.0 m KOH and 155 mV in 0.5 m H2SO4 at a current density of 10 mA cm−2. This work offers a new pathway for the rational design of MoS2-based HER electrocatalysts.  相似文献

Highly efficient hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) electrocatalyst will determine the mass distributions of hydrogen-powered clean technologies, while still faces grand challenges. In this work, a synergistic ligand modulation plus Co doping strategy is applied to 1T−MoS2 catalyst via CoMo-metal-organic frameworks precursors, boosting the HER catalytic activity and durability of 1T−MoS2. Confirmed by Cs corrected transmission electron microscope and X-ray absorption spectroscopy, the polydentate 1,2-bis(4-pyridyl)ethane ligand can stably link with two-dimensional 1T−MoS2 layers through cobalt sites to expand interlayer spacing of MoS2 (Co−1T−MoS2-bpe), which promotes active site exposure, accelerates water dissociation, and optimizes the adsorption and desorption of H in alkaline HER processes. Theoretical calculations indicate the promotions in the electronic structure of 1T−MoS2 originate in the formation of three-dimensional metal-organic constructs by linking π-conjugated ligand, which weakens the hybridization between Mo-3d and S-2p orbitals, and in turn makes S-2p orbital more suitable for hybridization with H-1s orbital. Therefore, Co−1T−MoS2-bpe exhibits excellent stability and exceedingly low overpotential for alkaline HER (118 mV at 10 mA cm−2). In addition, integrated into an anion-exchange membrane water electrolyzer, Co−1T−MoS2-bpe is much superior to the Pt/C catalyst at the large current densities. This study provides a feasible ligand modulation strategy for designs of two-dimensional catalysts.  相似文献

The development of durable, low‐cost, and efficient photo‐/electrolysis for the oxygen and hydrogen evolution reactions (OER and HER) is important to fulfill increasing energy requirements. Herein, highly efficient and active photo‐/electrochemical catalysts, that is, CoMn‐LDH@g‐C3N4 hybrids, have been synthesized successfully through a facile in situ co‐precipitation method at room temperature. The CoMn‐LDH@g‐C3N4 composite exhibits an obvious OER electrocatalytic performance with a current density of 40 mA cm?2 at an overpotential of 350 mV for water oxidation, which is 2.5 times higher than pure CoMn‐LDH nanosheets. For HER, CoMn‐LDH@g‐C3N4 (η50=?448 mV) requires a potential close to Pt/C (η50=?416 mV) to reach a current density of 50 mA cm2. Furthermore, under visible‐light irradiation, the photocurrent density of the CoMn‐LDH@g‐C3N4 composite is 0.227 mA cm?2, which is 2.1 and 3.8 time higher than pristine CoMn‐LDH (0.108 mA cm?2) and g‐C3N4 (0.061 mA cm?2), respectively. The CoMn‐LDH@g‐C3N4 composite delivers a current density of 10 mA cm?2 at 1.56 V and 100 mA cm?2 at 1.82 V for the overall water‐splitting reaction. Therefore, this work establishes the first example of pure CoMn‐LDH and CoMn‐LDH@g‐C3N4 hybrids as electrochemical and photoelectrochemical water‐splitting systems for both OER and HER, which may open a pathway to develop and explore other LDH and g‐C3N4 nanosheets as efficient catalysts for renewable energy applications.  相似文献

Transition metal hydroxides/oxyhydroxides have recently emerged as highly active electrocatalysts for oxygen evolution reaction in alkaline water electrolysis, while have not yet been widely investigated for hydrogen evolution electrocatalysts owing to their unfavorable H*-adsorption, making it difficult to construct an overall-water-splitting cell for hydrogen production. In this work, we proposed a straightforward and effective approach to develop an efficient in-plane heterostructured CoOOH/Co(OH)2 catalyst via in-situ electrochemical dehydrogenation method, in which the dehydrogenated –CoOOH and Co(OH)2 at the surface synergistically boost the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) kinetics in base as confirmed by high-resolution transmission electron microscope, synchrotron X-ray absorption spectroscopy, and electron energy loss spectroscopy. Due to the in-situ dehydrogenation of ultrathin Co(OH)2 nanosheets, the catalytic activity of the CoOOH/Co(OH)2 heterostructures is progressively improved, which exhibit outstanding hydrogen-evolving activity in base requiring a low overpotential of 132 mV to afford 10 mA/cm2 with very fast reaction kinetics after 60 h dehydrogenation. The gradually improved catalytic performance for the CoOOH/Co(OH)2 is probably due to the enhanced H*-adsorption induced by the synergistic effect of heterostructures and better conductivity of CoOOH relative to electrically insulating Co(OH)2. This work will open the opportunity for a new family of transition metal hydroxides/oxyhydroxides as active HER catalysts, and also highlight the importance of using in situ techniques to construct precious metal-free efficient catalysts for alkaline hydrogen evolution.  相似文献

Rational design and building of high efficiency, secure and inexpensive electrocatalyst is a pressing demand and performance to promote sustainable improvement of hydrogen energy. The bifunctional electrocatalysts for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and hydrogen evolution response (HER) with high catalytic performance and steadiness in the equal electrolyte are extra treasured and meaningful. Herein, a unique three-dimensional (3D) structure electrocatalyst for NiCo2S4 growing on the flower-like NiFeP was designed and synthesized in this study. The results show that the flower-like NiCo2S4/NiFeP/NF composite electrocatalyst has large specific surface area, appropriate electrical conductivity, and greater lively websites uncovered in the three-dimensional structure, and affords extraordinary electrocatalytic overall performance for the ordinary water splitting. In alkaline solution, the OER and HER overpotentials of NiCo2S4/NiFeP/NF only need 293 mV and 205 mV overpotential to provide the current densities of 100 mA/cm2 and 50 mA/cm2, respectively. This high electrocatalytic activity exceeds the catalytic activity of most nickel-iron based electrocatalysts for OER and HER process. Accordingly, the optimized NiCo2S4/NiFeP/NF sample has higher stability (24 h) at 1.560 and 10 mA/cm2, which extensively speeds up the overall water splitting process. In view of the above performance, this work offers a fine approach for the further improvement of low fee and excessive effectivity electrocatalyst.  相似文献
