Electrophoretic deposition (EPD) has been used to combine multi-walled carbon nanotubes of diameter in the range 20–30 nm and commercially available TiO2 nanoparticles (23 nm particle size) in composite films. Laminate coatings with up to four layers were produced by sequential EPD, while composite coatings were obtained by electrophoretic co-deposition of carbon nanotubes and TiO2 nanoparticles, respectively. Scanning electron microscopy was used to characterize the resultant microstructures. The mechanism of EPD of carbon nanotube/TiO2 nanoparticle composites is discussed.  相似文献

Wet acid oxidation treatment methods have been widely reported as an effective method to purify and oxidize the surface of industrial multi-walled carbon nanotubes. This work examines the use of a concentrated HNO3/H2SO4 mixture in an attempt to optimize the purification procedure of industrial multi-walled carbon nanotubes with diameter distribution statistics. It is shown that acid treatments of several hours are enough to purify the nanotubes. The electrical and thermal conductivities of epoxy composites containing 0.05–0.25 wt% of an acid-treated multi-walled carbon nanotube have been studied. The electrical conductivity of the composites decreases by more than three orders, whereas the thermal conductivity of the same specimen increases very modestly as a function of the filler content.  相似文献

It has been shown that a nanofluid consisting of nanoparticles dispersed in base fluid has much higher effective thermal conductivity than pure fluid. In this study, four kinds of nanofluids such as multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) in water, CuO in water, SiO2 in water, and CuO in ethylene glycol, are produced. Their thermal conductivities are measured by a transient hot-wire method. The thermal conductivity enhancement of water-based MWCNT nanofluid is increased up to 11.3% at a volume fraction of 0.01. The measured thermal conductivities of MWCNT nanofluids are higher than those calculated with Hamilton–Crosser model due to neglecting solid–liquid interaction at the interface. The results show that the thermal conductivity enhancement of nanofluids depends on the thermal conductivities of both particles and the base fluid.  相似文献

Homogeneous and stable nanofluids have been produced by suspending well dispersible multi-walled carbon nanotubes (CNTs) into ethylene glycol base fluid. CNT nanofluids have enhanced thermal conductivity and the enhancement ratios increase with the nanotube loading and the temperature. Thermal conductivity enhancement was adjusted by ball milling and cutting the treated CNTs suspended in the nanofluids to relatively straight CNTs with an appropriate length distribution. Our findings indicate that the straightness ratio, aspect ratio, and aggregation have collective influence on the thermal conductivity of CNT nanofluids.  相似文献

Magnetite Fe3O4 nanoparticles were synthesized by a co-precipitation method at different pH values. The products were characterized by X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and transmission electronic microscopy. Their magnetic properties were evaluated on a vibrating sample magnetometer. The results show that the shape of the particles is cubic and they are superparamagnetic at room temperature. Magnetic nanofluids were prepared by dispersing the Fe3O4 nanoparticles in water as a base fluid in the presence of tetramethyl ammonium hydroxide as a dispersant. The thermal conductivity of the nanofluids was measured as a function of volume fraction and temperature. The results show that the thermal conductivity ratio of the nanofluids increases with increase in temperature and volume fraction. The highest enhancement of thermal conductivity was 11.5% in the nanofluid of 3 vol% of nanoparticles at 40 °C. The experimental results were also compared with the theoretical models.  相似文献

Thermal properties of polymeric nanosolids, obtained by condensing the corresponding nanofluids, are investigated using photothermal techniques. The heat transport properties of two sets of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) based nanosolids, TiO2/PVA and Cu/PVA, prepared by condensing the respective nanofluids, which are prepared by dispersing nanoparticles of TiO2 and metallic copper in liquid PVA, are reported. Two photothermal techniques, the photoacoustic and the photopyroelectric techniques, have been employed for measuring thermal diffusivity, thermal conductivity and specific heat capacity of these nanosolids. The experimental results indicate that thermal conduction in these polymer composites is controlled by heat diffusion through the embedded particles and interfacial scattering at matrix–particle boundaries. These two mechanisms are combined to arrive at an expression for their effective thermal conductivity. Analysis of the results reveals the possibility to tune the thermal conductivity of such nanosolids over a wide range using the right types of nanoparticles and right concentration.  相似文献

The dispersion stability and thermal conductivity of propylene glycol-based nanofluids containing Al2O3 and TiO2 nanoparticles were studied in the temperature range of 20–80 °C. Nanofluids with different concentrations of nanoparticles were formulated by the two-step method and no dispersant was used. In contrast to the common belief, the average particle size of nanofluids was observed to decrease with increasing temperature, and nanofluids showed an excellent stability over the temperature range of interest. Thermal conductivity enhancement for both studied nanofluids was a nonlinear function of concentration and was temperature independent. Theoretical analyses were also performed using existing models compared with experimental results. The model based on the aggregation theory appears to be the best.  相似文献

Nanofluid is a kind of new engineering material consisting of solid nanoparticles with sizes typically of 1–100 nm suspended in base fluids. In this study, Al2O3–H2O nanofluids were synthesized, their dispersion behaviors and thermal conductivity in water were investigated under different pH values and different sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate (SDBS) concentration. The sedimentation kinetics was determined by examining the absorbency of particle in solution. The zeta potential and particle size of the particles were measured and the Derjaguin–Landau–Verwey–Overbeek (DLVO) theory was used to calculate attractive and repulsive potentials. The thermal conductivity was measured by a hot disk thermal constants analyser. The results showed that the stability and thermal conductivity enhancements of Al2O3–H2O nanofluids are highly dependent on pH values and different SDBS dispersant concentration of nano-suspensions, with an optimal pH value and SDBS concentration for the best dispersion behavior and the highest thermal conductivity. The absolute value of zeta potential and the absorbency of nano-Al2O3 suspensions with SDBS dispersant are higher at pH 8.0. The calculated DLVO interparticle interaction potentials verified the experimental results of the pH effect on the stability behavior. The Al2O3–H2O nanofluids with an ounce of Al2O3 have noticeably higher thermal conductivity than the base fluid without nanoparticles, for Al2O3 nanoparticles at a weight fraction of 0.0015 (0.15 wt%), thermal conductivity was enhanced by up to 10.1%.  相似文献

The current study was conducted to investigate the convective heat transfer coefficient of a novel TiO2–CNT hybrid nanofluid through the shell-and-tube heat exchanger under a laminar flow and the effects of temperature and mass fraction on it. TiO2–CNT hybrid nanofluids were prepared using a new and modified hydrolysis technique. The thermal conductivity of the TiO2–CNT hybrid nanofluid and other thermo-physical properties were assessed. Results indicate that the effective thermal conductivity and heat transfer coefficient of the base fluid was influenced significantly and increased by the 0.2 wt% of this novel hybrid nanofluid in distilled water.  相似文献

TiO2–MWCNT core/shell heterostructures containing a single MWCNT have been successfully prepared via solvothermal method. TiO2–MWCNT heterostructures with different morphologies and electromagnetic (EM) properties have obtained by adjusting the weight ratio of titanium dioxide (TiO2) and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) (weight ratio: 1:1, 5:1 and 10:1). EDS spectrum and X-ray diffraction analysis reveal that the product is composed of Ti, O, and C elements, and the crystal structure of TiO2 is tetragonal anatase phase. SEM and TEM images show that the MWCNTs are coated by a thin layer of TiO2 crystals, and the average diameters of the needle-like TiO2 nanocrystals are less than 100 nm. EM properties of the as-prepared TiO2–MWCNT heterostructures are investigated in the 0.5–18.0 GHz range. The permittivity and permeability of the TiO2–MWCNT heterostructures change obviously as the weight ratio of TiO2 and MWCNT increases. Moreover, the typical resonance–antiresonance phenomenon can be observed in the permittivity and permeability curves.  相似文献

Aiming at the dispersion stability of nanopartieles regarded as the guide of heat transfer enhancement, we investigate the viscosity and the thermal conductivity of Cu and Al2O3 nanoparticles in water under different pH values. The results show that there exists an optimal pH value for the lowest viscosity and the highest thermal conductivity, and that at the optimal pH value the nanofluids containing a small amount of nanoparticles have noticeably higher thermal conductivity than that of the base fluid without nanoparticles. For the two nanofluids the enhancements of thermal conductivity are observed up to 13% (Al2O3-water) or 15% (Cu-water) at 0.4 wt%, respectively. Therefore, adjusting the pH values is suggested to improve the stability and the thermal conductivity for practical applications of nanofluid.  相似文献

Anatase TiO2 nanoparticles were covalently anchored onto acid-treated multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) through a nanocoating-hydrothermal process to obtain TiO2-MWNTs nanocomposites. The composition and structural properties of the nanocomposites were characterized by XRD, BET, TG, TEM, HRTEM, EDX, XPS, and FTIR, and the formation of ester-bond linkage between TiO2 nanoparticles and MWNTs was demonstrated. The enhanced photocatalytic activity of TiO2-MWNTs nanocomposites was probed by photodegradation reaction of methylene blue under visible-light irradiation.  相似文献

A tubular array of TiO2 nanotubes on Ti matrix was used as a support for Ag or Cu sputter‐deposited layers intended for surface‐enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) investigations. The composite samples of Ag/TiO2–nanotube/Ti and Cu/TiO2–nanotube/Ti were studied with the aid of scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Auger electron spectroscopy (AES) [and scanning Auger microscopy (SAM)] to reveal their characteristic morphological and chemical features. Raman spectra of pyridine (as a probe molecule) were measured after it had been adsorbed on the TiO2–nanotube/Ti substrates covered with thin Ag or Cu deposit as well as on the bulk electrochemically roughened Ag or Cu reference substrates. It was found that the SERS spectra measured for pyridine adsorbed on the bulk silver substrate were significantly different than the spectra measured on the TiO2–nanotube/Ti substrates covered the Ag layer. The spectra measured for pyridine adsorbed on the Ag/TiO2–nanotube/Ti suggest that on the surface of such a composite substrate there are many Lewis acidic sites. Spectra typical for pyridine adsorbed on acidic sites were observed even after deposition of a relatively thick silver layer (e.g. an Ag layer with an average thickness of 80 nm) on the TiO2–nanotube/Ti support. Our findings suggest that TiO2–nanotube/Ti support is a promising substrate for the preparation of metallic nano‐clusters on a support containing acidic active sites. Carbon nanotubes can be obtained from a multitude of molecular precursors in chemical vapor deposition (CVD) processes. Here we demonstrate that the use of C60 as the carbon feedstock gas in an iron-catalyzed thermal CVD experiment leads to the formation of films of multi-walled carbon nanotubes. The critical role of the diameter of the catalyst particles in determining the efficiency of nanotube growth is clearly demonstrated. Electron microscopy and Raman spectroscopy were employed for the characterisation of the nanotube material. The structural properties of the individual nanotubes show distinctive differences to acetylene-grown multi-walled nanotubes. PACS 81.07.De; 81.10.Bk  相似文献

TiO2 nanotube arrays can be fabricated by electrochemical anodization in organic and inorganic electrolytes. Morphology of these nanotube arrays changes when anodization parameters such as applied voltage, type of electrolyte, time and temperature are varied. Nanotube arrays fabricated by anodization of commercial titanium in electrolytes containing NH4F solution and either sulfuric or phosphoric acid were studied at room temperature; time of anodization was kept constant. Applied voltage, fluoride ion concentration, and acid concentrations were varied and their influences on TiO2 nanotubes were investigated. The current density of anodizing was recorded by computer controlled digital multimeter. The surface morphology (top-view) of nanotube arrays were observed by SEM. The nanotube arrays in this study have inner diameters in range of 40-80 nm.  相似文献

Magnetic nanofluids, ferrofluids, are a special category of smart nanomaterials, consisting of stable dispersion of magnetic nanoparticles in different fluids. In this study, magnetic nanoparticles of hematite, α-Fe2O3, were prepared by solvothermal method using Fe(NO3)3 as a starting material. The nanoparticles were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electronic microscope (TEM).To the best of our knowledge, this is the first research on the rheological properties of nanofluids of α-Fe2O3 nanoparticles and glycerol. The experimental results showed that the viscosity of α-Fe2O3-glycerol nanofluids increases with increasing the particle volume fraction and decreases with increasing temperature. Our results clearly showed that the α-Fe2O3-glycerol nanofluids are non-Newtonian shear-thinning and their shear viscosity depends strongly on temperature. The experimental data were compared with some theoretical models. The measured values of the effective viscosity of nanofluids are underestimated by the theoretical models.  相似文献

In this paper, the fabrication of Ag/TiO2 nanotube arrays and their photo-catalytic activity have been studied. The SEM, TEM and XRD were performed to characterize the morphology and crystalline phase of the TiO2 nanotube array and Ag/TiO2 nanotube array. Ag nanoparticles with different loadings, which are aimed to suppress the electron–hole recombination so as to enhance the photo-catalytic oxidation efficiency, were systematically coated onto TiO2 nanotubes. The photo-catalytic activity of these nano-materials was evaluated by the degradation of two different pollutants: methyl orange and glyphosate. The effects of various parameters, such as the amount of the photo-catalyst, the illumination time, and pH value on the photo-catalytic oxidation activity, were studied.  相似文献

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs), including single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs), are considered to be the promising candidates for next-generation interconnects with excellent physical and chemical properties ranging from ultrahigh mechanical strength, to electrical properties, to thermal conductivity, to optical properties, etc. To further study the interfacial contact configurations of SWNT-based nanodevice with a 13.56-Å diameter, the corresponding simulations are carried out with the molecular dynamic method. The nanotube collapses dramatically into the surface with the complete collapse on the Au/Ag/graphite electrode surface and slight distortion on the Si/SiO2 substrate surface, respectively. The related dominant mechanism is studied and explained. Meanwhile, the interfacial contact configuration and behavior, depended on other factors, are also analyzed in this article.  相似文献

In this study, we prepared highly ordered TiO2 nanotube arrays on Ti through an anodizing process. Then, utilizing its proven antibacterial properties, we coated our TiO2 nanotubes (TiO2-NTs) with ZnO using the sol–gel method. We characterized the morphology, structure, and composition of the ZnO-coated TiO2 nanotubes (ZnO-TNTs) using field-emission scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and energy dispersive spectroscopy, respectively. We investigated surface topography and roughness of the coatings by atomic force microscopy operated in the tapping mode. Our results revealed impurity-free, anatase-phase TiO2 nanotubes that are uniformly coated with a ZnO layer. Finally, we tested the antibacterial activity of ZnO-TNTs against Staphylococcus aureus, and found ZnO-TNTs significantly improved the antibacterial properties of Ti implants. We conclude that ZnO-TNTs provide Ti with antibacterial activity, which highlights its potential in orthopedic and dental implants.  相似文献

Single-walled carbon nanotubes and multi-walled carbon nanotubes/ZrO2 nanocomposites were obtained by isothermal hydrolyzing and chemical precipitation method for both the carbon nanotubes. The coating was taken place by dispersion of both the carbon nanotubes in ZrOCl2·8H2O aqueous solution. However, a highly conformal and uniform monoclinic zirconia coating was deposited on multi-walled carbon nanotubes rather than single-walled carbon nanotubes by this new and simple method. Also, it has been observed that the thickness of the individual carbon nanotube after zirconia coating was increased by isothermal hydrolyzing process rather than traditional chemical precipitation method and it has been confirmed by high-resolution transmission electron microscopy study.  相似文献
