The surface of poly(tetrafluoroethylene) (PTFE or Teflon) was treated by nitrogen plasma-based ion implantation. Accelerating voltages between 15 and 30 kV, fluences between 1 × 1017 and 3 × 1017 cm−2 and fluence rates between 3 × 1013 and 7 × 1013 cm−2 s−1 were applied. The effects of these main parameters were examined on the evolution of surface chemical composition, mean roughness, abrasive wear, wettability and surface electrical resistance. The aim was to obtain relationships, enabling to control the surface properties examined. The F/C atomic ratio determined by XPS strongly decreased, correlating inversely with voltage. The mean surface roughness characterized by topography measurements, increased, correlating directly with fluence and inversely with voltage. The wear volume obtained by multipass scratch tests did not show clear relationship with the main process parameters, however, it increased upon treatment with the increase of surface roughness and O/C atomic ratio. The water contact angle increased at low voltages and high fluences, due to preferential increase of roughness, and decreased at high voltages and low fluences, owing to intense defluorination and incorporation of N and O. The electrical resistance of the PBII-treated surfaces decreased by several orders of magnitude, showing a significant inverse correlation with fluence. It continued to decrease for samples exposed to air, primarily after treatments performed with low fluences, due to post-treatment type oxidation.  相似文献

Pellets of nanocrystalline aluminum oxide synthesized by a combustion technique are irradiated with 120 MeV Au9+ ions for fluence in the range 5×1011-1×1013 ions cm−2. Two photoluminescence (PL) emissions, a prominent one with peak at ∼525 nm and a shoulder at ∼465 nm are observed in heat treated and Au9+ ion irradiated aluminum oxide. The 525 nm emission is attributed to F22+-centers. The PL intensity at 525 nm is found to increase with increase in ion fluence up to 1×1012 ions cm−2 and decreases beyond this fluence. Thermoluminescence (TL) of heat-treated and swift heavy ion (SHI) irradiated aluminum oxide gives a strong and broad TL glow with peak at ∼610 K along with a weak shoulder at 500 K. The TL intensity is found to increase with Au9+ ion fluence up to 1×1013 ions cm−2 and decreases beyond this fluence.  相似文献

GaN phase is synthesized using systemic implantation of nitrogen ions of multiple energies (290, 130 and 50 keV) into Zn-doped GaAs (1 0 0) at room temperature and subsequent annealing at 850 °C for 30 min in Ar + H2 atmosphere. The implanted doses of nitrogen ions are 5 × 1016 and 1 × 1017 ions-cm−2. Glancing angle X-ray diffraction studies show that hexagonal phase of GaN were formed. The photoluminescence studies show the emission from the band edge as well as from point defects.  相似文献

The present paper concentrates on structure and micro-mechanical properties of the helium-implanted layer on titanium treated by plasma-based ion implantation with a pulsed voltage of −30 kV and doses of 3, 6, 9 and 12 × 1017 ions/cm2, respectively. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy are employed to characterize the structure of the implanted layer. The hardnesses at different depths of the layer were measured by nano-indentation. We found that helium ion implantation into titanium leads to the formation of bubbles with a diameter from a few to more than 10 nm and the bubble size increases with the increase of dose. The primary existing form of Ti is amorphous in the implanted layer. Helium implantation also enhances the ingress of O, C and N and stimulates the formations of TiO2, Ti2O3, TiO, TiC and TiN in the near surface layer. And the amount of the ingressed oxygen is obviously higher than those of nitrogen and carbon due to its higher activity. At the near surface layer, the hardnesses of all implanted samples increases remarkably comparing with untreated one and the maximum hardness has an increase by a factor of up to 3.7. For the samples implanted with higher doses of 6, 9 and 12 × 1017 He/cm2, the local displacement bursts are clearly found in the load-displacement curves. For the samples implanted with a lower dose of 3 × 1017 He/cm2, there is no obvious displacement burst found. Furthermore, the burst width increases with the increase of the dose.  相似文献

Ti6Al4V alloy was implanted with nitrogen-oxygen mixture by using plasma based ion implantation (PBII) at pulsed voltage −10, −30 and −50 kV. The implantation was up to 6 × 1017 ions/cm2 fluence. The changes in chemical composition, structure and hardness of the modified surfaces were studied by XPS and nanoindentation measurements. According to XPS, it was found that the modified layer was predominantly TiO2, but contained small amounts of TiO, Ti2O3, TiN and Al2O3 between the outmost layer and metallic substrate. Surface hardness and wear resistance of the samples increased significantly after PBII treatment, the wear rate of the sample implanted N2-O2 mixture at −50 kV decreased eight times than the untreated one. The sample implanted N2-O2 mixture showed better wear resistance than that of the sample only implanted oxygen at − 50 kV. The wear mechanism of untreated sample was abrasive-dominated and adhesive, and the wear scar of the sample implanted at −50 kV was characterized by abrasive wear-type ploughing.  相似文献

Using a field emission gun based scanning electron microscopy, we report the formation of nanodots on the InP surfaces after bombardment by 100 keV Ar+ ions under off-normal ion incidence (30° and 60° with respect to the surface normal) condition in the fluence range of 1 × 1016 to 1 × 1018 ions cm−2. Nanodots start forming after a threshold fluence of about 1 × 1017 ions cm−2. It is also seen that although the average dot diameter increases with fluence the average number of dots decreases with increasing fluence. Formation of such nanostructured features is attributed due to ion-beam sputtering. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis of the ion sputtered surface clearly shows In enrichment of the sputtered InP surface. The observation of growth of nanodots on the Ar+-ion sputtered InP surface under the present experimental condition matches well with the recent simulation results based on an atomistic model of sputter erosion.  相似文献

Ni thin films of 250 nm thicknesses were coated on type 304 and 316 stainless steels and post N+ ion implanted at 15 keV energy with a fluence of 5 × 1017 N+ cm−2 at different substrate temperatures. Surface nano-structure of the samples were analysed using X-ray diffraction (XRD), atomic force microscopy (AFM) before corrosion test and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) after corrosion test. Corrosion behaviour of the samples in 1.0 M H2SO4 solution was investigated by means of potentiodynamic technique. Nano-structure and crystallography of the films showed the development of Ni3N(1 1 1) and Ni4N(2 0 0) orientations with a minimum surface roughness and grain size at 400 K substrate temperature. The highest corrosion resistance with a corrosion current of 0.01 μA cm−2 (for SS(316)) and 0.56 μA cm−2 (for SS(304)) was achieved in case of samples which were N+ ion implanted at 400 K. Results for both types of stainless steels showed good agreement and the better performance of SS(316) was attributed to the 2% molybdenum contents in the alloy composition of this type of stainless steel, which enhances the effectiveness of nitrogen in retarding the corrosion process.  相似文献

The surface modifications of tungsten massive samples (0.5 mm foils) made by nitrogen ion implantation are studied by SEM, XRD, AFM, and SIMS. Nitrogen ions in the energy range of 16-30 keV with a fluence of 1 × 1018 N+ cm−2 were implanted in tungsten samples for 1600 s at different temperatures. XRD patterns clearly showed WN2 (0 1 8) (rhombohedral) very close to W (2 0 0) line. Crystallite sizes (coherently diffracting domains) obtained from WN2 (0 1 8) line, showed an increase with substrate temperature. AFM images showed the formation of grains on W samples, which grew in size with temperature. Similar morphological changes to that has been observed for thin films by increasing substrate temperature (i.e., structure zone model (SZM)), is obtained. The surface roughness variation with temperature generally showed a decrease with increasing temperature. The density of implanted nitrogen ions and the depth of nitrogen ion implantation in W studied by SIMS showed a minimum for N+ density as well as a minimum for penetration depth of N+ ions in W at certain temperatures, which are both consistent with XRD results (i.e., IW (2 0 0)/IW (2 1 1)) for W (bcc). Hence, showing a correlation between XRD and SIMS results.  相似文献

The nondestructive nature of static secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS) in the context of studies of self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) of organic molecules has been examined by measuring the primary ion fluence dependence of secondary ion signals with two well-known SAMs, C18H37SH on Au(1 1 1) and C18H37PO3H2 on freshly cleaved mica. This SIMS analysis is challenging because the bonding nature is delicate and the areal molecular density is less than 1015 cm−2. In SIMS, it is prevalently assumed that if the primary ion fluence is confined to not more than 1 × 1012 cm−2, all secondary ion signals should not change by more than 10% and the practically defined static condition is satisfied. Our results from time-of-flight SIMS with the common primary ions of Bi3+, Bi+ and Ar+, indicate that this prevalent static assumption fails for both model SAMs. The SIMS results from the phosphyl case, which have been recently published, consistently display the evidence of bombardment-induced damage. In comparison, the thiol case presented here shows much more complex primary ion fluence dependence of SIMS signals. It is therefore concluded that practical static analysis should use primary ion fluence not more than 1 × 1011 cm−2 or should simply record and report the effects of primary ion fluence.  相似文献

We demonstrate a gradual surface modification process of relaxed Si0.5Ge0.5 alloy films by 100 MeV Au beam with fluence varying between 5 × 1010 and 1 × 1012 ions/cm2 at 80 K by means of atomic force microscopy (AFM). Presence of Ge quantum dots (QDs) was found in the virgin sample. The disappearance of the QDs were noticed when the samples were irradiated with a fluence of 5 × 1010 ions/cm2. Craters were found developing at a fluence of 1 × 1011 ions/cm2. Apart from the evolution of the craters, blisters were also detected at a fluence of 1 × 1012 ions/cm2. Variation of the average root mean square value of the surface roughness as a function of fluence was examined.  相似文献

Ion bombardment is a suitable tool to improve the physical and chemical properties of polymer surface. In this study UHMWPE samples were bombarded with 130 keV He ions to the fluences ranging from 1 × 1012 to 1 × 1016 cm−2. The untreated and ion beam modified samples were investigated by photoluminescence, and ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) spectroscopy. Remarkable decrease in integrated luminescence intensity with increasing ion fluences was observed. The reduction in PL intensity with increase of ion fluence might be attributed to degradation of polymer surface and formation of defects. The effect of ion fluence on the optical properties of the bombarded surfaces was characterized. The values of the optical band gap Eg, and activation energy Ea were determined from the optical absorption. The width of the tail of the localized states in the band gap (Ea) was evaluated using the Urbach edge method. With increasing ion fluences a decrease in both the energy gap and the activation energy were observed. Increase in the numbers of carbon atoms (N) in a formed cluster with increasing the He ion fluence was observed.  相似文献

In order to study the effect of copper ion implantation on the aqueous corrosion behavior, samples of zircaloy-4 were implanted with copper ions with fluences ranging from 1 × 1016 to 1 × 1017 ions/cm2, using a metal vapor vacuum arc source (MEVVA) operated at an extraction voltage of 40 kV. The valence states and depth distributions of elements in the surface layer of the samples were analyzed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and Auger electron spectroscopy (AES), respectively. Glancing angle X-ray diffraction (GAXRD) was employed to examine the phase transformation due to the copper ion implantation. The potentiodynamic polarization technique was employed to evaluate the aqueous corrosion resistance of implanted zircaloy-4 in a 1 M H2SO4 solution. It was found that a significant improvement was achieved in the aqueous corrosion resistance of zircaloy-4 implanted with copper ions when the fluence is smaller than 5 × 1016 ions/cm2. The corrosion resistance of implanted samples declined with increasing the fluence. Finally, the mechanism of the corrosion behavior of copper-implanted zircaloy-4 was discussed.  相似文献

Fe film (∼50 nm) have been deposited on pSi substrate by electron beam evaporation technique. The bilayers have been irradiated by 100 MeV Fe7+ ions having fluences of 1 × 1013, 1 × 1014 and 5 × 1014 ions cm−2. SEM study of the unirradiated devices show surface modifications having a annular structures. From XRD study of the bilayer, it is observed that grain size has reduced from 70 to 25 nm after the irradiation for a fluence of 1 × 1014 ions cm−2. Moreover electronic transport data of the bilayer show practically no effect on the current flow for a fluence of 1 × 1013 ions cm−2 irradiation whereas for 1 × 1014 ions cm−2 fluence, there is very significant change in current flow (by two orders in magnitude) across the bilayer. However, for a higher fluence of irradiation 5 × 1014 ions cm−2, the bilayer becomes highly resistive. It has been found from the above observations that the fluence of 1 × 1014 ions cm−2 of swift heavy ion irradiation is a optimum fluence.  相似文献

The effect of silicon ion implantation on the optical reflection of bulk polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) was examined in the visible and near UV. A low-energy (30 and 50 keV) Si+ beam at fluences in the range from 1013 to 1017 cm−2 was used for ion implantation of PMMA. The results show that a significant enhancement of the reflectivity from Si+-implanted PMMA occurs at appropriate implantation energy and fluence. The structural modifications of PMMA by the silicon ion implantation were characterized by means of photoluminescence and Raman spectroscopy. Formation of hydrogenated amorphous carbon (HAC) layer beneath the surface of the samples was established and the corresponding HAC domain size was estimated.  相似文献

Ultra-low-energy ion implantation of silicon with a hydrogen-terminated (0 0 1) surface was carried out using a mass-separated 31P+ ion beam. The ion energy was 30 eV, the displacement energy of silicon, and the ion doses were 6 × 1013 ions/cm2. Annealing after the implantation was not carried out. The effects of ion implantation on the surface electrical state of silicon were investigated using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The Si 2p peak position using XPS depends on the doping conditions because the Fermi level of the hydrogen-terminated silicon surface is unpinned. The Si 2p peak position of the specimen after ion implantation at a vacuum pressure of 3 × 10−7 Pa was shifted to the higher energy region. It suggested the possibility of phosphorus doping in silicon without annealing. In the case of ion implantation at 5 × 10−5 Pa, the Si 2p peak position was not shifted, and the peak was broadened because of the damage by the fast neutrals. Ultra-low-energy ion doping can be achieved at ultra-high-vacuum conditions.  相似文献

We report on Nd:CNGG active planar waveguides produced by 6.0 MeV carbon ion implantation at fluence from 1 × 1014 ions/cm2 to 8 × 1014 ions/cm2. The refractive index profiles, which were reconstructed according to the measured dark mode spectroscopy, showed that the refractive indices had negative changes in the surface region, forming typical barrier waveguide. The width of waveguide structure induced by carbon ion implantation is ∼3.8 μm. The typical barrier-shaped distribution may be mainly due to the nuclear energy deposition of the incident ions into the substrate. By performing a modal analysis on the observed TE modes, it was found that the TE0 and TE1 modes can be well-confined inside the waveguide.  相似文献

The irradiation effect of 350 MeV Au+ ions on Ti/Si multilayers has been studied using Rutherford backscattering spectroscopy, X-ray reflectivity (XRR) and grazing incidence X-ray diffraction (GIXRD). Intermixing effects have been studied as a function of fluences of 0.46 × 1014, 1.82 × 1014 and 4.62 × 1014 cm−2. Rutherford backscattering spectra (RBS) confirm mixing at the interface. X-ray reflectivity patterns show damage at the interfaces with the absence of a continuous fringe pattern at high fluence doses in comparison to the pristine interface. Mixing leads to titanium di-silicide (TiSi2) phase formation as a shown by grazing incidence X-ray diffraction patterns. The observed intermixing is attributed to energy deposited by the incident ions in the electronic system of the target. Swift heavy ion irradiation induced intermixing increases with fluence.  相似文献

Effects of different ions implantation on yellow luminescence from GaN   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The influence of C, N, O, Mg, Si and co-implants (Mg+Si) ions implantation with fluences in the wide range 1013-1017 cm−2 on the yellow luminescence (YL) properties of wurtzite GaN has been studied by photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy. Two types of n-type GaN samples grown by metal-organic chemical vapor deposition method (MOCVD) and labeled as No-1 and No-2 were studied. In their as-grown states, No-1 samples had strong YL, while No-2 samples had weak YL. Results of the frontside and backside PL measurements in one of the as-grown GaN epifilms are also presented. Comparing the intensity of YL between frontside and backside PL spectra, the backside PL spectrum shows the more intense YL intensity. This implies that most of the intrinsic defects giving rise to YL exist mainly near the interface between the epilayer and buffer layer. Our experimental results show that the intensity ratio of YL to near-band-edge UV emission (IYL/IUV) decreases gradually by increasing the C implantation fluence from 1013 to 1016 cm−2 for No-1 samples after annealing at 900 °C. When the fluence is 1017 cm−2, a distinct change of the IYL/IUV is observed, which is strongly increased after annealing. For No-2 samples, after annealing the IYL/IUV decreases gradually with increase in the C implantation fluence from 1013 to 1015 cm−2. The IYL/IUV is gradually increased with increasing C fluence from 1016 to 1017 cm−2 after annealing, while IYL/IUV for other ions-implanted GaN samples decreases monotonically with increase in the ions implantation fluences from 1013 to 1017 cm−2 for both No-1 samples and No-2 samples. It is noted that for annealed C-implanted No-2 samples IYL/IUV is much higher than that of the as-grown one and other ion-implanted ones. In addition, IYL/IUV for the Mg, Si, and co-implants (Mg+Si) implanted No-2 samples with a fluence of 1013 cm−2 after being annealed at 900 °C is higher than that of the as-grown one. Based on our experimental data and literature results reported previously, the origins of the YL band have been discussed.  相似文献

The surface modifications of Mo massive samples (0.5 mm foils) made by nitrogen ion implantation are studied by SEM, XRD, AFM, and SIMS. Nitrogen ions in the energy range of 16-30 keV with a fluence of 1 × 1018 N+ cm−2 were implanted in molybdenum samples for 1600 s at different temperatures. XRD patterns clearly showed MoN (0 3 1) (hcp) very close to Mo (2 0 0) line. Crystallite sizes (coherently diffracting domains) obtained from MoN (0 3 1) line, showed an increase with substrate temperature. AFM images showed the formation of grains on Mo samples, which grew in size with temperature. Similar morphological changes to that has been observed for thin films by increasing substrate temperature (i.e., structure zone model (SZM)), is obtained. The density of implanted nitrogen ions and the depth of nitrogen ion implantation in Mo studied by SIMS showed a minimum for N+ density as well as a minimum for penetration depth of N+ ions in Mo at certain temperatures, which are both consistent with XRD results (i.e., IMo (2 0 0)/IMo (2 1 1)) for Mo (bcc). Hence, showing a correlation between XRD and SIMS results. This phenomenon is explained on the basis of residual gas, substrate temperature, dissociation of water in the chamber and the ion energy.  相似文献

Metal-semiconductor diode of Au/n-GaAs is studied under the irradiation of swift heavy ion (SHI) beam (80 MeV 16O6+), using in situ current-voltage characterization technique. The diode parameters like ideality factor, barrier height, and leakage current are observed to vary with irradiation fluence. Significantly, the diode performance improves at a high fluence of 2 × 1013 ions cm−2 with a large decrease of reverse leakage current in comparison to the original as deposited sample. The Schottky barrier height (SBH) also increases with fluence. At a high irradiation fluence of 5 × 1013 ions cm−2 the SBH (0.62 ± 0.01 eV) is much larger than that of the as deposited sample (0.55 ± 0.01 eV). The diode parameters remain stable over a large range of irradiation up to fluence of 8 × 1013 ions cm−2. A prominent annealing effect of the swift ion beam owing to moderate electronic excitation and high ratio of electronic energy loss to the nuclear loss is found to be responsible for the improvement in diode characteristics.  相似文献
