Let T and S be invertible measure preserving transformations of a probability measure space (X, ℬ, μ). We prove that if the group generated by T and S is nilpotent, then exists in L 2-norm for any u, vL (X, ℬ, μ). We also show that for A∈ℬ with μ(A)>0 one has . By the way of contrast, we bring examples showing that if measure preserving transformations T, S generate a solvable group, then (i) the above limits do not have to exist; (ii) the double recurrence property fails, that is, for some A∈ℬ, μ(A)>0, one may have μ(AT -n AS - n A)=0 for all n∈ℕ. Finally, we show that when T and S generate a nilpotent group of class ≤c, in L 2(X) for all u, vL (X) if and only if T×S is ergodic on X×X and the group generated by T -1 S, T -2 S 2,..., T -c S c acts ergodically on X.  This paper is concerned with the approximation of the effective conductivity σ(A, μ) associated to an elliptic operator ∇ xA (x,η)∇ x where for xℝ d , d≥1, A(x,η) is a bounded elliptic random symmetric d×d matrix and η takes value in an ergodic probability space (X, μ). Writing A N (x, η) the periodization of A(x, η) on the torus T d N of dimension d and side N we prove that for μ-almost all η
We extend this result to non-symmetric operators ∇ x (a+E(x, η))∇ x corresponding to diffusions in ergodic divergence free flows (a is d×d elliptic symmetric matrix and E(x, η) an ergodic skew-symmetric matrix); and to discrete operators corresponding to random walks on ℤ d with ergodic jump rates. The core of our result is to show that the ergodic Weyl decomposition associated to 2(X, μ) can almost surely be approximated by periodic Weyl decompositions with increasing periods, implying that semi-continuous variational formulae associated to 2(X, μ) can almost surely be approximated by variational formulae minimizing on periodic potential and solenoidal functions. LetT be a measure-preserving and ergodic transformation of a standard probability space (X,S, μ) and letf:X → SUT d (ℝ) be a Borel map into the group of unipotent upper triangulard ×d matrices. We modify an argument in [12] to obtain a sufficient condition for the recurrence of the random walk defined byf, in terms of the asymptotic behaviour of the distributions of the suitably scaled mapsf(n,x)=(fT n−1·fT n−2fT·f). We give examples of recurrent cocycles with values in the continuous Heisenberg group H1(ℝ)=SUT3(ℝ), and we use a recurrent cocycle to construct an ergodic skew-product extension of an irrational rotation by the discrete Heisenberg group H1(ℤ)=SUT3(ℤ). For a locally compact group G, the measure convolution algebra M(G) carries a natural coproduct. In previous work, we showed that the canonical predual C 0(G) of M(G) is the unique predual which makes both the product and the coproduct on M(G) weak*-continuous. Given a discrete semigroup S, the convolution algebra 1(S) also carries a coproduct. In this paper we examine preduals for 1(S) making both the product and the coproduct weak*-continuous. Under certain conditions on S, we show that 1(S) has a unique such predual. Such S include the free semigroup on finitely many generators. In general, however, this need not be the case even for quite simple semigroups and we construct uncountably many such preduals on 1(S) when S is either ℤ+×ℤ or (ℕ,⋅).  相似文献

LetS φ be the skew product transformation(x, g)↦(Sx, gφ(x)) defined on Ω×G, where Ω is a compact metric space,G a compact metric group with its Haar measureh. IfS is a μ-continuous transformation where μ is a Borel measure on Ω, ergodic with respect toS, we study the setE 0 of μ-continuous applications φ:Ω→G such that μ⩀h is ergodic (with respect toS φ). For example,E 0 is residual in the group of μ-continuous applications from Ω toG with the uniform convergence topology. We also study the weakly mixing case. Some arithmetic applications are given.  相似文献

Let A and B be standard operator algebras on Banach spaces X and Y, respectively. The peripheral spectrum σπ (T) of T is defined by σπ (T) = z ∈ σ(T): |z| = maxw∈σ(T) |w|. If surjective (not necessarily linear nor continuous) maps φ, ϕ: AB satisfy σπ (φ(S)ϕ(T)) = σπ (ST) for all S; TA, then φ and ϕ are either of the form φ(T) = A 1 TA 2 −1 and ϕ(T) = A 2 TA 1 −1 for some bijective bounded linear operators A 1; A 2 of X onto Y, or of the form φ(T) = B 1 T*B 2 −1 and ϕ(T) = B 2 T*B −1 for some bijective bounded linear operators B 1;B 2 of X* onto Y.   相似文献

Let M be a simple group whose order is less than 108. In this paper, we prove that if G is a finite group with the same order and degree pattern as M, then the following statements hold: (a) If MA 10, U 4(2), then GM; (b) If M = A 10, then GA 10 or J 2 × ℤ3; (c) If M = U 4(2), then G is isomorphic to a 2-Frobenius group or U 4(2). In particular, all simple groups whose orders are less than 108 but A 10 and U 4(2) are OD-characterizable. As a consequence of this result, we can give a positive answer to a conjecture put forward by W. J. Shi and J. X. Bi in 1990 [Lecture Notes in Mathematics, Vol. 1456, 171–180].   相似文献

Consider (X,F, μ,T) a Lebesgue probability space and measure preserving invertible map. We call this a dynamical system. For a subsetAF. byT A:AA we mean the induced map,T A(x)=TrA(x)(x) wherer A(x)=min{i〉0:T i(x) ∈A}. Such induced maps can be topologized by the natural metricD(A, A’) = μ(AΔA’) onF mod sets of measure zero. We discuss here ergodic properties ofT A which are residual in this metric. The first theorem is due to Conze.Theorem 1 (Conze):For T ergodic, T A is weakly mixing for a residual set of A.Theorem 2:For T ergodic, 0-entropy and loosely Bernoulli, T A is rank-1, and rigid for a residual set of A.Theorem 3:For T ergodic, positive entropy and loosely Bernoulli, T A is Bernoulli for a residual set of A.Theorem 4:For T ergodic of positive entropy, T A is a K-automorphism for a residual set of A. A strengthening of Theorem 1 asserts thatA can be chosen to lie inside a given factor algebra ofT. We also discuss even Kakutani equivalence analogues of Theorems 1–4.  相似文献

Let T n be the complete binary tree of height n considered as the Hasse-diagram of a poset with its root 1 n as the maximum element. For a rooted tree T, define two functions counting the embeddings of T into T n as follows A(n;T)=|{S T n  : 1 n S, ST}|, and B(n;T)=|{S T n :1 n S, ST}|. In this paper we investigate the asymptotic behavior of the ratio A(n;T)/B(n;T), and we show that lim  n→∞[A(n;T)/B(n;T)]=2ℓ;−1−1, for any tree T with ℓ leaves. This revised version was published online in June 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

Ergodic theory: for every dynamical system (X,A,T, μ), totally ergodic and of finite entropy, there exist a sequenceS of integers, of upper density zero, and a partitionQ ofX, such that V i∈S T −i Q is the whole σ-algebraA. Furthermore, there is a “universal” sequenceS 0 for which this property is true if we restrict ourselves to the class of strongly mixing systems.   相似文献

Given a dilation matrix A :ℤd→ℤd, and G a complete set of coset representatives of 2π(A −Td/ℤd), we consider polynomial solutions M to the equation ∑ g∈G M(ξ+g)=1 with the constraints that M≥0 and M(0)=1. We prove that the full class of such functions can be generated using polynomial convolution kernels. Trigonometric polynomials of this type play an important role as symbols for interpolatory subdivision schemes. For isotropic dilation matrices, we use the method introduced to construct symbols for interpolatory subdivision schemes satisfying Strang–Fix conditions of arbitrary order. Let {S n ;n=1,2,…} be a random walk in R d and E(S 1)=(μ 1,…,μ d ). Let a j >μ j for j=1,…,d and A=(a 1,∞)×⋅⋅⋅×(a d ,∞). We are interested in the probability P(S n /nA) for large n in the case where the components of S 1 are heavy tailed. An objective is to associate an exact power with the aforementioned probability. We also derive sharper asymptotic bounds for the probability and show that in essence, the occurrence of the event {S n /nA} is caused by large single increments of the components in a specific way.   相似文献

Let S be a discrete semigroup, let β S be the Stone-Čech compactification of S, and let T be a closed subsemigroup of β S. We characterize ultrafilters from the smallest ideal K(T) of T and from its closure c K(T). We show that, for a large class of closed subsemigroups of β S, c K(T) is not an ideal of T. This class includes the subsemigroups 0+β d and ℍ κ β( κ 2).  相似文献

Of concern are semigroups of linear norm one operators on Hilbert space of the form (discrete case)T={T n /n=0,1,2,...} or (continuous case)T={T(t)/t=≥0}. Using ergodic theory and Hilbert-Schmidt operators, the Cesàro limits (asn→∞) of |〈T n f,f〉|2, |〈T (n)f,f〉|2 are computed (withn∈ℤ+ orn∈ℤ+). Specializing the Hilbert space to beL 2(T,μ) (discrete case) orL 2(ℝ,μ) (continuous case) where μ is a Borel probability measure on the circle group or the line, the Cesàro limit of (asn→±∞, with,n∈ℤ orn∈ℝ) is obtained and interpreted. Extensions toT M , and ℝ M are given. Finally, we discuss recent operator theoretic extensions from a Hilbert to a Banach space context. Partially supported by an NSF grant  相似文献

The classification of extended affine Lie algebras of type A_1 depends on the Tits-Kantor- Koecher (TKK) algebras constructed from semilattices of Euclidean spaces. One can define a unitary Jordan algebra J(S) from a semilattice S of R~v (v≥1),and then construct an extended affine Lie algebra of type A_1 from the TKK algebra T(J(S)) which is obtained from the Jordan algebra J(S) by the so-called Tits-Kantor-Koecher construction. In R~2 there are only two non-similar semilattices S and S′,where S is a lattice and S′is a non-lattice semilattice. In this paper we study the Z~2-graded automorphisms of the TKK algebra T(J(S)).  相似文献

UniversalC*-algebrasC*(A) exist for certain topological *-algebras called algebras with aC*-enveloping algebra. A Frechet *-algebraA has aC*-enveloping algebra if and only if every operator representation ofA mapsA into bounded operators. This is proved by showing that every unbounded operator representation π, continuous in the uniform topology, of a topological *-algebraA, which is an inverse limit of Banach *-algebras, is a direct sum of bounded operator representations, thereby factoring through the enveloping pro-C*-algebraE(A) ofA. Given aC*-dynamical system (G,A,α), any topological *-algebraB containingC c (G,A) as a dense *-subalgebra and contained in the crossed productC*-algebraC*(G,A,α) satisfiesE(B) =C*(G,A,α). IfG = ℝ, ifB is an α-invariant dense Frechet *-subalgebra ofA such thatE(B) =A, and if the action α onB ism-tempered, smooth and by continuous *-automorphisms: then the smooth Schwartz crossed productS(ℝ,B,α) satisfiesE(S(ℝ,B,α)) =C*(ℝ,A,α). WhenG is a Lie group, theC -elementsC (A), the analytic elementsC ω(A) as well as the entire analytic elementsC є(A) carry natural topologies making them algebras with aC*-enveloping algebra. Given a non-unitalC*-algebraA, an inductive system of idealsI α is constructed satisfyingA =C*-ind limI α; and the locally convex inductive limit ind limI α is anm-convex algebra with theC*-enveloping algebraA and containing the Pedersen idealK a ofA. Given generatorsG with weakly Banach admissible relationsR, we construct universal topological *-algebraA(G, R) and show that it has aC*-enveloping algebra if and only if (G, R) isC*-admissible.  相似文献

The paper has two main parts. To begin with, suppose that G is a compact abelian group. Chang’s Theorem can be viewed as a structural refinement of Bessel’s inequality for functions ƒL 2(G). We prove an analogous result for functions ƒA(G), where A(G) is the space endowed with the norm , and generalize this to the approximate Fourier transform on Bohr sets. As an application of the first part of the paper, we improve a recent result of Green and Konyagin. Suppose that p is a prime number and A ⊂ ℤ/pℤ has density bounded away from 0 and 1 by an absolute constant. Green and Konyagin have shown that ‖χ A A(ℤ/pℤ)ɛ (log p)1/3−ɛ; we improve this to ‖χ A A(ℤ/pℤ)ɛ (log p)1/2−ɛ. To put this in context, it is easy to see that if A is an arithmetic progression, then ‖χ A A(ℤ/pℤ) ≪ log p.  相似文献

This paper deals with the blow-up properties of solutions to a system of heat equations u tu, v tv in B R×(0, T) with the Neumann boundary conditions εu/εη=e v, εv/εη=e u on S R×[0, T). The exact blow-up rates are established. It is also proved that the blow-up will occur only on the boundary. This work is supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China  相似文献

Let A and B be uniform algebras. Suppose that α ≠ 0 and A 1A. Let ρ, τ: A 1A and S, T: A 1B be mappings. Suppose that ρ(A 1), τ(A 1) and S(A 1), T(A 1) are closed under multiplications and contain expA and expB, respectively. If ‖S(f)T(g) − α = ‖ρ(f)τ(g) − α for all f, gA 1, S(e 1)−1S(A 1) and S(e 1) ∈ T(A 1) for some e 1A 1 with ρ(e 1) = 1, then there exists a real-algebra isomorphism $ \tilde S $ \tilde S : AB such that $ \tilde S $ \tilde S (ρ(f)) = S(e 1)−1 S(f) for every fA 1. We also give some applications of this result.  相似文献
