The corrosion inhibition of 1-(2-pyridylazo)-2-naphthol (PAR) on the corrosion of cold rolled steel in 0.5 M sulfuric acid (H2SO4) was studied using weight loss method and potentiodynamic polarization method. Results obtained revealed that together with chloride ion, PAR is an effective corrosion inhibitor for steel corrosion in sulfuric acid. It was found that for steel corrosion inhibition in the presence of single PAR in sulfuric acid the Temkin adsorption isotherm may be used to explain the adsorption phenomenon. For the mixture of PAR and NaCl used as corrosion inhibitor, however, the Langmuir adsorption isotherm can be used to satisfactorily elucidate the adsorption of mixture of PAR and NaCl. Potentiodynamic polarization studies showed that single PAR mainly acts as a cathodic inhibitor for the corrosion of steel in 0.5 M sulfuric acid. The mixture of PAR and chloride ion, however, acts as a mixed type inhibitor that mainly inhibits cathodic reaction of the steel corrosion in sulfuric acid. By means of electrochemical polarization tests, a desorption potential at ca. −370 mV was observed for the adsorption of mixture of PAR and chloride ion, when potential reaches this value, adsorbed inhibitor molecule heavily departs from the steel surface. For the mixture of PAR and chloride ion, thermodynamic parameters such as adsorption heat, adsorption entropy and adsorption free energy were obtained from experimental data of the temperature studies of the inhibition process at four temperatures ranging from 30 to 45 °C, the kinetic data such as apparent activation energies and pre-exponential factors at different concentrations of the inhibitor were calculated, and the effect of the apparent activation energies and pre-exponential factors on the corrosion rates of cold rolled steel was discussed. The most suitable range of inhibitor concentration was discussed. The inhibitive action was satisfactorily explained by using both thermodynamic and kinetic models. Synergism between chloride ion and PAR was proposed. The results obtained from weight loss and potentiodynamic polarization were in good agreement.  相似文献

Effects of 2-amino-5-(ethylthio)-1,3,4-thiadiazole (ATD) on copper corrosion as a corrosion inhibitor in de-aerated, aerated and oxygenated 3% NaCl solutions have been studied using potentiodynamic polarization, potentiostatic current-time, electrochemical impedance spectroscopic (EIS), weight loss and pH measurements along with scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) investigations. Potentiodynamic polarization measurements indicated that the presence of ATD in these solutions greatly decreases cathodic, anodic and corrosion currents. Potentiostatic current-time measurements and SEM/EDX investigations also showed that the ATD molecules are strongly adsorbed on the copper surface preventing it from being corroded easily. EIS measurements revealed that the charge transfer resistance increases due to the presence of ATD, and this effect increases with oxygen content in the solution. Weight loss measurements gave an inhibition efficiency of about 83% with 1.0 mM ATD present, increasing to about 94% at the ATD concentration of 5.0 mM. Results together are internally consistent with each other, showing that ATD is a good mixed-type inhibitor for copper corrosion with its inhibition efficiency increasing in the order of oxygenated > aerated > de-aerated 3% NaCl solutions.  相似文献

The synergistic inhibition between 4-(2-pyridylazo) resorcin (PAR) and chloride ion on the corrosion of cold rolled steel in 1.0 M phosphoric acid was studied using weight loss and potentiodynamic polarization method. Results obtained revealed that single PAR is not an effective inhibitor for steel corrosion in phosphoric acid, but in the presence of chloride ion, PAR may act as a good inhibitor due to the synergism. It is found that the adsorption of PAR accords with the Langmuir adsorption isotherm in the absence and presence of chloride ion. Potentiodynamic polarization studies show that PAR is an anodic inhibitor for steel in 1.0 M phosphoric acid, and with addition of chloride ion PAR acts as a mixed type inhibitor. The experimental temperature ranges from 30 to 45 °C. The kinetic data such as apparent activation energies and pre-exponential factors at different concentrations of the inhibitor were calculated, and the effect of the apparent activation energies and pre-exponential factors on the corrosion rates of cold rolled steel was discussed. The inhibitive action was satisfactorily explained by using kinetic models.  相似文献

The effect of addition of 1,3-bis(3-hyroxymethyl-5-methyl-1-pyrazole) propane (M = 264 g). HMPP on steel corrosion in 0.5 M sulphuric acid is studied by weight-loss, electrochemical polarisation and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) measurements at various temperatures. The results obtained showed that HMPP acts as a good corrosion inhibitor. The inhibition efficiency increases with the bipyrazole compound to attain 88%. It acts as a mixed-type inhibitor. Trends in the increase of charge-transfer resistance and decrease of capacitance values also show the adsorption of the molecule on the metal surface. The bipyrazole adsorbs on the steel surface according to the Langmuir isotherm adsorption model. Effect of temperature indicates that inhibition efficiency decreases with temperature between 25 and 85 °C.  相似文献

The inhibiting effect of the piperidin-1-yl-phosphonic acid (PPA) and (4-phosphono-piperazin-1-yl) phosphonic acid (PPPA) on the behavior of iron in 3% NaCl media has been examined by electrochemical and gravimetric measurements. Potentiodynamic polarization studies clearly reveal the fact that the addition of increasing concentrations of phosphonic acids moves the corrosion potential towards negative values and reduces the corrosion rate. In uninhibited and inhibited solutions, the increasing of temperature reduces the inhibition efficiency. Changes in impedance parameters (Rt and Cdl) are indicative of adsorption of PPA and PPPA on the metal surface leading to the formation of protective films. Gravimetric measurements reveal that the presence of PPA and PPPA increases the inhibition efficiency by decreasing the corrosion rate. The results obtained by corrosion weight loss tests reveal that adsorption of compounds tested on the ARMCO iron surface obeys to Langmuir adsorption isotherm.  相似文献

Ketene dithioacetal derivatives, namely 3-[bis(methylthio)methylene] pentane-2,4-dione (1), 3-(1,3-dithian-2-ylidene) pentane-2,4-dione (2) and 3-(1,3-dithiolan-2-ylidene) pentane-2,4-dione (3) were synthesized and their respective capacity to inhibit copper corrosion in 3 M HNO3 was investigated by means of weight loss, potentiodynamic polarization, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence (XRF). The obtained results indicate that the addition of these compounds significantly decreases the corrosion rate. Potentiodynamic polarization studies clearly showed that the inhibition efficiency increases with increasing concentration of the investigated compounds at a fixed temperature, but decreases with increasing temperature. These results on the whole showed that the studied substances are good cathodic inhibitors for copper corrosion in nitric acid medium. SEM and energy dispersive X-ray (EDAX) examination of the copper surface revealed that these compounds prevented copper from corrosion by adsorption on its surface to form a protective film, which acts as a barrier to aggressive agents. The presence of these organic compounds adsorbed on the electrode surface was confirmed by XRF investigations.  相似文献

The effect of the addition of some tetrazolic type organic compounds: 1-phenyl-5-mercapto-1,2,3,4-tetrazole (PMT), 1,2,3,4-tetrazole (TTZ), 5-amino-1,2,3,4-tetrazole (AT) and 1-phenyl-1,2,3,4-tetrazole (PT) on the corrosion of brass in nitric acid is studied by weight loss, polarisation and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) measurements. The explored methods gave almost similar results. Results obtained reveal that PMT is the best inhibitor and the inhibition efficiency (E%) follows the sequence: PMT > PT > AT > TTZ. Polarization measurements also indicated that tetrazoles acted as mixed-type inhibitors without changing the mechanism of the hydrogen evolution reaction. Partial π-charge on atoms has been calculated. Correlation between the highest occupied molecular orbital energy EHOMO and inhibition efficiencies was sought. The adsorption of PMT on the brass surface followed the Langmuir isotherm. Effect of temperature is also studied in the (25-50 °C) range.  相似文献

Poly(o-anisidine) (POA) coatings were synthesized on brass by electrochemical polymerization of o-anisidine in aqueous salicylate solution by using cyclic voltammetry. These coatings were characterized by cyclic voltammetry, UV–visible absorption spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The corrosion protection aspects of POA coatings on brass in aqueous 3% NaCl solution were investigated by potentiodynamic polarization technique and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The potentiodynamic polarization measurements show that the POA coating has ability to protect the brass against corrosion. The corrosion potential was about 0.204 V versus SCE more positive for the POA coated brass than that of uncoated brass and reduces the corrosion rate of brass almost by a factor of 800. The corrosion behavior of the POA coatings was also investigated by EIS through immersion tests performed in aqueous 3% NaCl solution. The evolution of the impedance parameters with the immersion time was studied and the results show that the POA acts as a protective coating on brass against corrosion in 3% NaCl solution. The water uptake and delamination area were also determined to further support the corrosion protection performance of the POA coating.  相似文献

Berberine was abstracted from coptis chinensis and its inhibition efficiency on corrosion of mild steel in 1 M H2SO4 was investigated through weight loss experiment, electrochemical techniques and scanning electronic microscope (SEM) with energy disperse spectrometer (EDS). The weight loss results showed that berberine is an excellent corrosion inhibitor for mild steel immersed in 1 M H2SO4. Potentiodynamic curves suggested that berberine suppressed both cathodic and anodic processes for its concentrations higher than 1.0 × 10−4 M and mainly cathodic reaction was suppressed for lower concentrations. The Nyquist diagrams of impedance for mild steel in 1 M H2SO4 containing berberine with different concentrations showed one capacitive loop, and the polarization resistance increased with the inhibitor concentration rising. A good fit to Flory-Huggins isotherm was obtained between surface coverage degree and inhibitor concentration. The surface morphology and EDS analysis for mild steel specimens in sulfuric acid in the absence and presence of the inhibitor also proved the results obtained by the weight loss and electrochemical experiments. The correlation of inhibition effect and molecular structure of berberine was then discussed by quantum chemistry study.  相似文献

Benzyl triphenyl phosphonium bromide (BTPPB) has been evaluated as a corrosion inhibitor for mild steel in aerated 0.5 M sulfuric acid solution by galvanostatic polarization and potentiostatic polarization methods. The effect of BTPPB on the corrosion current is measured at various temperatures and concentrations. The inhibitor efficiencies, effective activation energies and heat of adsorption have been calculated. The inhibition efficiency increases with increase in inhibitor concentration to reach 99.3% for 10−2 M. The nature of adsorption of BTPPB on the metal surface has also been examined. Probable mode of adsorption on the metal surface has been proposed using infrared spectroscopic studies. The electrochemical results have also been supplemented by surface morphological studies and quantum chemical analysis.  相似文献

The synergism between rare earth cerium(IV) ion and vanillin (4-hydroxy-3-methoxy-benzaldehyde) on the corrosion of cold rolled steel (CRS) in 1.0 M H2SO4 solution at five temperatures ranging from 20 to 60 °C was first studied by weight loss and potentiodynamic polarization methods. The inhibited solutions were analyzed by ultraviolet and visible spectrophotometer (UV-vis). The adsorbed film of CRS surface containing optimum doses of the blends Ce4+-vanillin was investigated by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and atomic force microscope (AFM). The results revealed that vanillin had a moderate inhibitive effect, and the inhibition efficiency (IE) increased with the vanillin concentration. The adsorption of vanillin obeyed Temkin adsorption isotherm. Polarization curves showed that vanillin was a mixed-type inhibitor in sulfuric acid, while prominently inhibited the cathodic reaction. For the cerium(IV) ion, it had a negligible effect, and the maximum IE was only about 20%. However, incorporation of Ce4+ with vanillin improved significantly the inhibition performance. The IE for Ce4+ in combination with vanillin was higher than the summation of IE for single Ce4+ and single vanillin, which was synergism in nature. A high inhibition efficiency, 98% was obtained by a mixture of 25-200 mg l−1 vanillin and 300-475 mg l−1 Ce4+. UV-vis showed that the new complex of Ce4+-vanillin was formed in 1.0 M H2SO4 for Ce4+ combination with vanillin. Polarization studies showed that the complex of Ce4+-vanillin acted as a mixed-type inhibitor, which drastically inhibits both anodic and cathodic reactions. FTIR and XPS revealed that a protective film formed in the presence of both vanillin and Ce4+ was composed of cerium oxide and the complex of Ce4+-vanillin. The synergism between Ce4+ and vanillin could also be evidenced by AFM images. Depending on the results, the synergism mechanism was discussed from the viewpoint of adsorption theory.  相似文献

The influence of 3,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrazole (P1), pyridine (P2) and 2-(3-methyl-1H-pyrazol-5-yl) pyridine (P3) on the corrosion inhibition of steel in molar hydrochloric acid solution is studied using weight-loss, potentiodynamic and EIS measurements. Results obtained shows that P3 is the best inhibitor and its inhibition efficiency increases with the increase of concentration to attain 89% since 10−3 M. Potentiodynamic polarisation studies clearly reveal that it acts essentially as a cathodic inhibitor. The inhibitor studied reduces the corrosion rates. E (%) values obtained from various methods used are in good agreement. Adsorption of P3 on steel surface has an S-shaped adsorption isotherm.  相似文献

The inhibitive effect of tartarate was studied as a coinhibitor with tungstate in preventing carbon steel corrosion in aqueous solutions. Open circuit potential measurements, weight-loss measurements and polarization studies were conducted to understand the domains of corrosion and passivation. Tartarate ions, even at low concentration, showed excellent synergistic corrosion inhibition characteristics. A mixture of 500 ppm each of the inhibitors was found to be optimum inhibitor combination. This inhibitor combination showed inhibition efficiency as high as 98%. Tartarate in the synergistic inhibitor combination did not reveal any dominant role in shifting the surface potential, even though it showed substantial passivation effect. The present study explores and evaluates the synergistic combination as a potential inhibitor system in combating corrosion on carbon steel surface.  相似文献

The corrosion inhibitive effect of 3-(3-oxo-3-phenyl-propenyl)-1H-quinolin-2-one (PPQ) and 3-(3-oxo-3-phenyl-propenyl)-1H-benzoquinolin-2-one (PPBQ) on high carbon steel (HCS) in 10 % HCl media was evaluated by chemical (weight loss) and electrochemical (electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and potentiodynamic polarization technique) measurements. The inhibition efficiencies obtained from weight loss and electrochemical measurements were in good agreement. The inhibition efficiency was found to increase with the increase in inhibitor concentration but decreased with rise in temperature. Potentiodynamic polarization studies revealed the mixed mode inhibition of inhibitors. The adsorption behavior of these inhibitors on the HCS surface was found to obey the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The thermodynamic parameter values of free energy of adsorption (?G ads) and enthalpy of adsorption (?H ads) revealed that the inhibitor was adsorbed on the HCS surface via both chemisorption and physisorption mechanisms. The adsorption mechanism of inhibition was supported by spectroscopic techniques (UV–visible, FT-IR, and wide-angle X-ray diffraction), surface analysis (SEM–EDS), and adsorption isotherms.  相似文献

Chitosan (CS) hydrogel loaded with the well-known corrosion inhibitor 2-mercaptobenzothiazole (MBT) has been introduced into a composite coating to improve copper protection. This composite coating, which has both anticorrosion and antibacterial properties, was fabricated onto the surface of copper by combining a simple self-assembled monolayer technique with a sol-gel method. The anti-corrosion ability of the coating in 3.5 wt.% NaCl solution was investigated by electrochemical methods including potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The protection efficiency of the coating is 97.70%, calculated on the basis of the corrosion current density. The stability and integrity of the composite coating were evaluated by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and energy dispersive spectrometry (EDS). The FESEM and EDS results suggest that the composite coating endows the copper substrate with antibacterial properties, as untreated bare copper underwent microbiologically influenced corrosion in the presence of sulphate reducing bacteria (SRB). This antibacterial feature was further confirmed by the SRB culture method. In a 3.5% NaCl solution and highly corrosive SRB culture media, the as-prepared CS based composite coating gave corrosion protection by exhibiting better barrier effects against the attack of aggressive environments.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of ceria doping on corrosion resistance of amorphous silica–titania coating. The microstructural and phase properties of titania–silica and titania–silica–Ceria composite films were investigated by SEM, EDAX and XRD. Potentiodynamic polarization and EIS spectroscopy have been used to study the corrosion behavior of composite coating in 3.5% NaCl solution. Results showed that by cerium doping into silica–titania coating as an inhibitor, the corrosion resistance of the film increased. In addition this study revealed that cerium doping enhanced pitting resistance of the coating.  相似文献

The influence of [(2-pyridin-4-ylethyl)thio]acetic acid (P1) and pyridine (P2) on the corrosion inhibition of steel in sulphuric acid solution is studied using weight loss, potentiodynamic polarisation and linear polarisation resistance (Rp) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) measurements. Results obtained show that P1 is the best inhibitor and its inhibition efficiency (E%) increases with the increase of concentration. The highest E% of 82% is observed at 5 × 10−3 M. Potentiodynamic polarisation studies clearly reveal that P1 acts as a mixed inhibitor. The inhibitor studied reduces the corrosion rates. E% values obtained from various methods used are in good agreement. Adsorption of P1 on steel surface obeys to Langmuir adsorption isotherm. Effect of temperature indicates that E% decreases with temperature between 298 and 353 K.  相似文献

The inhibition effect of three naphthyridine derivatives namely 2-amino-4-(4-methoxyphenyl)-1,8-naphthyridine-3-carbonitrile (ANC-1), 2-amino-4-(4-methylphenyl)-1,8-naphthyridine-3-carbonitrile (ANC-2) and 2-amino-4-(3-nitrophenyl)-1,8-naphthyridine-3-carbonitrile (ANC-3) as corrosion inhibitors for N80 steel in 15% HCl by using gravimetric, electrochemical techniques (EIS and potentiodynamic polarization), SEM, EDX and quantum chemical calculation. The order of inhibition efficiency is ANC-1>ANC-2>ANC-3. Potentiodynamic polarization reveals that these inhibitors are mixed type with predominant cathodic control. Studied inhibitors obey the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The quantum calculation is in good agreement with experimental results.  相似文献

Artemisia oil (Ar) is extracted from artemisia herba alba collected in Ain es-sefra-Algeria, and tested as corrosion inhibitor of steel in 2 M H3PO4 using weight loss measurements, electrochemical polarisation and EIS methods. The naturally oil reduces the corrosion rate. The inhibition efficiency was found to increase with oil content to attain 79% at 6 g/l. Ar acts as a cathodic inhibitor. The effect of temperature on the corrosion behaviour of steel indicates that inhibition efficiency of the natural substance decreases with the rise of temperature. The adsorption isotherm of natural product on the steel has been determined.  相似文献

The inhibition action of a non-ionic surfactant of tween-40 on the corrosion of cold rolled steel (CRS) in 0.5-7.0 M sulphuric acid (H2SO4) was studied by weight loss and potentiodynamic polarization methods. Atomic force microscope (AFM) provided the surface conditions. The inhibition efficiency increases with the tween-40 concentration, while decreases with the sulphuric acid concentration. The adsorption of inhibitor on the cold rolled steel surface obeys the Langmuir adsorption isotherm equation. Effect of immersion time was studied and discussed. The effect of temperature on the corrosion behavior of cold rolled steel was also studied at four temperatures ranging from 30 to 60 °C, the thermodynamic parameters such as adsorption heat, adsorption free energy and adsorption entropy were calculated. A kinetic study of cold rolled steel in uninhibited and inhibited acid was also discussed. The kinetic parameters such as apparent activation energy, pre-exponential factor, rate constant, and reaction constant were calculated for the reactions of corrosion. The inhibition effect is satisfactorily explained by both thermodynamic and kinetic parameters. Polarization curves show that tween-40 is a cathodic-type inhibitor in sulphuric acid. The results obtained from weight loss and potentiodynamic polarization are in good agreement, and the tween-40 inhibition action could also be evidenced by surface AFM images.  相似文献
