The electron dynamics in the normal state of Bi(2)Sr(2)CaCu(2)O(8+delta) is studied by inelastic light scattering over a wide range of doping. A strong anisotropy of the electron relaxation is found which cannot be explained by single-particle properties alone. The results strongly indicate the presence of an unconventional quantum-critical metal-insulator transition where "hot" (antinodal) quasiparticles become insulating while "cold" (nodal) quasiparticles remain metallic. A phenomenology is developed which allows a quantitative understanding of the Raman results and provides a scenario which links single- and many-particle properties.  相似文献

The nonequilibrium state of the high-T(c) superconductor Bi(2)Sr(2)CaCu(2)O(8+δ) and its ultrafast dynamics have been investigated by femtosecond time- and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy well below the critical temperature. We probe optically excited quasiparticles at different electron momenta along the Fermi surface and detect metastable quasiparticles near the antinode, since their decay toward the nodal region through e-e scattering is blocked by phase space restrictions. The observed lack of momentum dependence in the decay rates is in agreement with relaxation dynamics dominated by Cooper pair recombination in a boson bottleneck limit.  相似文献

We have probed the Landau levels of nodal quasiparticles by tunneling along a nodal direction of (110) oriented YBa2Cu3O7-x thin films with a magnetic field applied perpendicular to the CuO2 planes, and parallel to the film's surface. In optimally doped films and at low temperature, finite energy nodal states are clearly observed in films thinner than the London penetration depth. Above a well defined temperature, the order parameter reverts to a pure d-wave symmetry.  相似文献

There has long been a discrepancy between microwave conductivity measurements in high temperature superconductors and the conductivity spectrum expected in the simplest models for impurity scattering in a d-wave superconductor. Here we present a new type of broadband measurement of microwave surface resistance that finally shows some of the spectral features expected for a d(x2-y2) pairing state. Cusp-shaped conductivity spectra, consistent with weak impurity scattering of nodal quasiparticles, were obtained in the 0.6-21 GHz frequency range in highly ordered crystals of YBa2Cu3O6.50 and YBa2Cu3O6.99.  相似文献

Using angle-resolved photoemission, we have observed sharp quasiparticlelike peaks in the prototypical layered manganite La(2-2x)Sr(1+2x)Mn(2)O(7) (x=0.36,0.38). We focus on the (pi,0) regions of k space and study their electronic scattering rates and dispersion kinks, uncovering bilayer-split bands, the critical energy scales, momentum scales, and strengths of the interactions that renormalize the electrons. To identify these bosons, we measured phonon dispersions in the energy range of the kink by inelastic neutron scattering, finding a good match in both energy and momentum to the oxygen bond-stretching phonons.  相似文献

For optimally doped Bi(2)Sr(2)CaCu(2)O(8+delta), scattering rates in the normal state are found to have a linear temperature dependence over most of the Fermi surface. In the immediate vicinity of the (pi, 0) point, the scattering rates are nearly constant in the normal state, consistent with models in which scattering at this point determines the c-axis transport. In the superconducting state, the scattering rates away from the nodal direction appear to level off and become temperature independent.  相似文献

High resolution angle-resolved photoemission measurements on an underdoped (La(2-x)Srx)CuO4 system show that, at energies below 70 meV, the quasiparticle peak is well defined around the (pi/2,pi/2) nodal region and disappears rather abruptly when the momentum is changed from the nodal point to the (pi,0) antinodal point along the underlying "Fermi surface." It indicates that there is an extra low energy scattering mechanism acting upon the antinodal quasiparticles. We propose that this mechanism is the scattering of quasiparticles across the nearly parallel segments of the Fermi surface near the antinodes.  相似文献

Thermal transport in the mixed state of a d-wave superconductor is considered within the weak-field regime. We express the thermal conductivity, kappa(xx), and the thermal Hall conductivity, kappa(xy), in terms of the cross section for quasiparticle scattering from a single vortex. Solving for the cross section (neglecting the Berry phase contribution and the anisotropy of the gap nodes), we obtain kappa(xx)(H,T) and kappa(xy)(H,T) in surprisingly good agreement with the qualitative features of the experimental results for YBa2Cu3O6.99. In particular, we show that the simple, yet previously unexpected, weak-field behavior, kappa(xy)(H,T) approximately T squareroot [H], is that of thermally excited nodal quasiparticles, scattering primarily from impurities, with a small skew component provided by vortex scattering.  相似文献

We consider a quasi-two-dimensional superconductor with line nodes in the presence of an in-plane magnetic field, and compute the dependence of the specific heat C and the in-plane heat conductivity kappa on the angle between the field and the nodal direction in the vortex state. We use a variation of the microscopic Brandt-Pesch-Tewordt method that accounts for the scattering of quasiparticles off vortices, and analyze the signature of the nodes in C and kappa. At low to moderate fields the specific heat anisotropy changes sign with increasing temperature. Comparison with measurements of C and kappa in CeCoIn(5) resolves the contradiction between the two in favor of the d((x(2)-y(2)) gap.  相似文献

We have measured the complex conductivity sigma of a Bi(2)Sr(2)CaCu(2)O(8+delta) thin film between 0.2 and 0.8 THz. We find sigma in the superconducting state to be well described as the sum of contributions from quasiparticles, condensate, and order parameter fluctuations which draw 30% of the spectral weight from the condensate. An analysis based on this decomposition yields a quasiparticle scattering rate on the order of k(B)T/Planck's over 2pi for temperatures below T(c).  相似文献

In the cuprate superconductor YBa2Cu3O6+x, hole doping in the CuO2 layers is controlled by both oxygen content and the degree of oxygen ordering. At the composition YBa2Cu3O6.35, the ordering can occur at room temperature, thereby tuning the hole doping so that the superconducting critical temperature gradually rises from 0 to 20 K. Here we exploit this to study the c-axis penetration depth as a function of temperature and doping. The temperature dependence shows the d-wave superconductor surviving to very low doping, with no sign of another ordered phase interfering with the nodal quasiparticles. The only apparent doping dependence is a smooth decline of superfluid density as T(c) decreases.  相似文献

Motivated by the strong, low temperature damping of nodal quasiparticles observed in some cuprate superconductors, we study quantum phase transitions in d(x(2)-y(2)) superconductors with a spin-singlet, zero momentum, fermion bilinear order parameter. We present a complete, group-theoretic classification of such transitions into seven distinct cases (including cases with nematic order) and analyze fluctuations by the renormalization group. We find that only two, the transitions to d(x(2)-y(2))+is and d(x(2)-y(2))+id(xy) pairing, possess stable fixed points with universal damping of nodal quasiparticles; the latter leaves the gapped quasiparticles along (1,0), (0,1) essentially undamped.  相似文献

We present high resolution angle resolved photoemission data of the bilayer superconductor Bi(2)Sr(2)CaCu(2)O(8+delta) (Bi2212) showing a clear doubling of the near E(F) bands. This splitting approaches zero along the (0,0)-->(pi,pi) nodal line and is not observed in single layer Bi(2)Sr(2)CuO(6+delta) (Bi2201), indicating that the splitting is due to the long sought after bilayer splitting effect. The splitting has a magnitude of approximately 75 meV near the middle of the zone, extrapolating to about 110 meV near the (pi,0) point. The existence of these two bands also helps to clear up the recent controversy concerning the topology of the Fermi surface.  相似文献

Reactive scattering of O atoms with I2 molecules has been studied at an initial translational energy E = 43 kJ mol-1 using a supersonic beam of O atoms seeded in He and E = 18 kJ mol-1 using O atoms seeded in Ne. Velocity distributions of OI product were measured by cross-correlation time-of-flight analysis. Full contour maps of the differential reaction cross section were obtained which show predominantly rebound scattering at both initial translational energies. Scattering in the forward direction has a product translational energy distribution similar to that predicted for a long-lived collision complex but scattering in the backward direction has a much higher product translational energy. The greater predominance of rebound scattering observed for O + I2 compared with O + Br2 may be attributed to the greater exoergicity of the O + I2 reaction. However, comparison with the O + IBr reaction which exhibits a long-lived collision complex mechanism indicates that the predominance of backward scattering for O + I2 also arises from diminished forward scattering from larger impact parameter collisions.  相似文献

The modulated density of states observed in recent STM experiments in underdoped cuprates is argued to be a manifestation of the charge-density wave of Cooper pairs (CPCDW). CPCDW formation is due to superconducting phase fluctuations enhanced by Mott-Hubbard correlations near half-filling. The physics behind the CPCDW is related to a Hofstadter problem in a dual superconductor. It is shown that CPCDW does not impact nodal fermions at the leading order. An experiment is proposed to probe coupling of the CPCDW to the spin carried by nodal quasiparticles.  相似文献

Recent improvements in momentum resolution lead to qualitatively new angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy results on the spectra of Bi(2)Sr(2)CaCu(2)O(8+delta) (Bi2212) along the (pi,pi) direction, where there is a node in the superconducting gap. We now see the intrinsic line shape, which indicates the presence of true quasiparticles at all Fermi momenta in the superconducting state, and lack thereof in the normal state. The region of momentum space probed here is relevant for charge transport, motivating a comparison of our results to conductivity measurements by infrared reflectivity.  相似文献

The possibility of a second pairing transition d --> d + is ( d + id') in planar d-wave superconductors which occurs in the absence of external magnetic field, magnetic impurities, or boundaries is established in the framework of the nonperturbative phenomenon of dynamical chiral symmetry breaking in the system of (2+1)-dimensional Dirac-like nodal quasiparticles. We determine the critical exponents and quasiparticle spectral functions that characterize the corresponding quantum-critical behavior and discuss some of its potentially observable spectral and transport features.  相似文献

We determine the classical diffusion of two dimensional Dirac-like quasiparticles, in the presence of conserving spin disorder (scattering off electric impurities) and non-conserving spin disorder (scattering off magnetic impurities). We use the Kubo formula for the conductivity tensor and employ diagrammatic perturbation theory to calculate the vertex correction and the renormalisation of the current operator for both electric and magnetic scattering. Scattering off electric impurities is isotropic and the current operator renormalised to two times the bare current operator irrespective of the direction of the dynamics, as usual for Dirac-like fermions. For magnetic scattering the renormalisation of the current operator depends on the direction of the dynamics and on the polarisation of the magnetic impurities, making the system anisotropic. We calculate the anisotropic magnetoresistance (AMR) and analyse it as a function of the ratio of the strength of the electric to the magnetic scattering potentials, for short range Gaussian correlation.  相似文献

A new low photon energy regime of angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy is accessed with lasers and used to study the high T(C) superconductor Bi2Sr2CaCu2O(8+delta). The low energy increases bulk sensitivity, reduces background, and improves resolution. With this we observe spectral peaks which are sharp on the scale of their binding energy--the clearest evidence yet for quasiparticles in the normal state. Crucial aspects of the data such as the dispersion, superconducting gaps, and the bosonic coupling kink are found to be robust to a possible breakdown of the sudden approximation.  相似文献

We use microprobe angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (microARPES) to separately investigate the electronic properties of CuO2 planes and CuO chains in the high temperature superconductor, YBa2Cu4O8. For the CuO2 planes, a two-dimensional (2D) electronic structure is observed and, in contrast to Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+delta, the bilayer splitting is almost isotropic and 50% larger, which strongly suggests that bilayer splitting has no direct effect on the superconducting properties. In addition, the scattering rate for the bonding band is about 1.5 times stronger than the antibonding band and is independent of momentum. For the CuO chains, the electronic structure is quasi-one-dimensional and consists of a conduction and insulating band. Finally, we find that the conduction electrons are well confined within the planes and chains with a nontrivial hybridization.  相似文献
