We classify complex compact parallelizable manifolds which admit flat torsion free holomorphic affine connections. We exhibit complex compact manifolds admitting holomorphic affine connections, but no flat torsion free holomorphic affine connections. To cite this article: S. Dumitrescu, C. R. Acad. Sci. We consider actions of lattices in certain higher rank simple Lie groups by affine (i.e. connection-preserving) transformations of a compact Riemannian manifold. When the dimension of the manifold is not too large, such actions are partially described here in terms of affine actions on the flat torus and isometric actions. The main tools are Marguils' and Zimmer's rigidity theorems.  相似文献

We classify the affine connections on compact orientable surfaces for which the pseudogroup of local isometries acts transitively. We prove that such a connection is either torsion-free and flat, the Levi–Civita connection of a Riemannian metric of constant curvature or the quotient of a translation-invariant connection in the plane. This refines previous results by Opozda.  相似文献

The paper deals with affine selections of affine (both convex and concave) multifunctions acting between finite-dimensional real normed spaces. It is proved that each affine multifunction with compact values possesses an exhaustive family of affine selections and, consequently, can be represented by its affine selections. Moreover, a convex multifunction with compact values possesses an exhaustive family of affine selections if and only if it is affine. Thus the existence of an exhaustive family of affine selections is the characteristic feature of affine multifunctions which differs them from other convex multifunctions with compact values. Besides a necessary and sufficient condition for a concave multifunction to be affine on a given convex subset is also proved. Finally it is shown that each affine multifunction with compact values can be represented as the closed convex hull of its exposed affine selections and as the convex hull of its extreme affine selections. These statements extend the Straszewicz theorem and the Krein–Milman theorem to affine multifunctions. Dedicated to Boris Mordukhovich in honour of his 60th birthday.  相似文献

We characterize invariant projectively flat affine connections in terms of affine representations of Lie algebras, and show that a homogeneous space admits an invariant projectively flat affine connection if and only if it has an equivariant centro-affine immersion. We give a correspondence between semi-simple symmetric spaces with invariant projectively flat affine connections and central-simple Jordan algebras.

Let G be a connected complex semisimple affine algebraic group, and let K be a maximal compact subgroup of G. Let X be a noncompact oriented surface. The main theorem of Florentino and Lawton (2009) [3] says that the moduli space of flat K-connections on X is a strong deformation retraction of the moduli space of flat G-connections on X. We prove that this statement fails whenever X is compact of genus at least two.  相似文献

This paper deals with a geometric problem on inflection points and affine vertices for closed curves in an affine flat torus. We show that the least number of inflection points lying on a closed curve that is not homotopic to zero is 2 if the torus is affinely equivalent to a euclidean torus and 0 otherwise. We consider also the number of affine vertices on a strictly convex closed curve on a flat torus. An explicit example of a closed curve with six affine vertices is given.  相似文献

In a previous article (Arch. Math. {64} (1995), 75–85) we showed that flat Laguerre planes can be constructed by'integrating' flat affine planes. It turns out that'most' of the known flat Laguerre planes arise in this manner. In this paper we show that similar constructions are also possible in the case of the other two kinds of flat circle planes, that is, the flat Möbius planes and the flat Minkowski planes. In particular, we show that many of the known flat Möbius planes can be constructed by integrating a closed strip taken from a flat affine plane. We also show how flat Minkowski planes arise as integrals of two flat affine planes. All known flat Minkowski planes can be constructed in this manner.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate the affine vector fields on both compact and forward complete Finsler manifolds. We first give definitions of the affine transformation and the affine vector field. Unexpectedly, we find two kinds of affine fields, which are named as the strongly and weakly affine vector fields. Based on these definitions, we prove some rigidity theorems of affine fields on compact and forward complete Finsler manifolds.  相似文献

An affine manifold is a manifold with a flat affine structure, i.e. a torsion-free flat affine connection. We slightly generalize the result of Hirsch and Thurston that if the holonomy of a closed affine manifold is isomorphic to amenable groups amalgamated or HNN-extended along finite groups, then the Euler characteristic of the manifold is zero confirming an old conjecture of Chern. The technique is from Kim and Lee's work using the combinatorial Gauss–Bonnet theorem and taking the means of the angles by amenability. We show that if an even-dimensional manifold is obtained from a connected sum operation from K(, 1)s with amenable fundamental groups, then the manifold does not admit an affine structure generalizing a result of Smillie.  相似文献

Although the coordinate ternary field of a topological affine plane is topological, the converse does not hold. However, an affine plane is topological precisely when its coordinate biternary fields are topological. We extend this result to topological biternary rings and their topological affine Klingenberg planes. Then we examine the locally compact situation. Finally, following the ideas of Knarr and Weigand, we show that in certain circumstances, the continuity of the ternary operators is sufficient to ensure that the biternary ring is topological. This facilitates the construction of locally compact, locally connected affine Klingenberg planes.Dedicated to Professor Dr. Helmut Salzmann on his 65th birthday  相似文献

We give a standard model for the flat affine geometry defined by the local action variables of a completely integrable system. We are primarily interested in the affine structure in the neighborhood of a critical value with nontrivial monodromy.   相似文献

We show that proper Lie groupoids are locally linearizable. As a consequence, the orbit space of a proper Lie groupoid is a smooth orbispace (a Hausdorff space which locally looks like the quotient of a vector space by a linear compact Lie group action). In the case of proper (quasi-)symplectic groupoids, the orbit space admits a natural integral affine structure, which makes it into an affine orbifold with locally convex polyhedral boundary, and the local structure near each boundary point is isomorphic to that of a Weyl chamber of a compact Lie group. We then apply these results to the study of momentum maps of Hamiltonian actions of proper (quasi-)symplectic groupoids, and show that these momentum maps preserve natural transverse affine structures with local convexity properties. Many convexity theorems in the literature can be recovered from this last statement and some elementary results about affine maps.  相似文献

We study locally homogeneous rigid geometric structures on surfaces. We show that a locally homogeneous projective connection on a compact surface is flat. We also show that a locally homogeneous unimodular affine connection ${\nabla}$ on a two dimensional torus is complete and, up to a finite cover, homogeneous. Let ${\nabla}$ be a unimodular real analytic affine connection on a real analytic compact connected surface M. If ${\nabla}$ is locally homogeneous on a nontrivial open set in M, we prove that ${\nabla}$ is locally homogeneous on all of M.  相似文献

It is proved that the spaces of index one minimal surfaces and stable constant mean curvature surfaces with genus greater than one in (non fixed) flat three manifolds are compact in a strong sense: given a sequence of any of the above surfaces we can extract a convergent subsequence of both the surfaces and the ambient manifolds in the topology. These limits preserve the topological type of the surfaces and the affine diffeomorphism class of the ambient manifolds. Some applications to the isoperimetric problem are given.

Geodesically complete affine manifolds are quotients of the Euclidean space through a properly discontinuous action of a subgroup of affine Euclidean transformations. An equivalent definition is that the tangent bundle of such a manifold admits a flat, symmetric and complete connection. If the completeness assumption is dropped, the manifold is not necessarily obtained as the quotient of the Euclidean space through a properly discontinuous group of affine transformations. In fact the universal cover may no longer be the Euclidean space. The main result of this paper states that if a flat connection of a bundle can be properly deformed into a metric connection then its Euler class vanishes. This is a partial result toward an old question of Chern.  相似文献

Affine semigroups are convex sets on which there exists an associative binary operation which is affine separately in either variable. They were introduced by Cohen and Collins in 1959. We look at examples of affine semigroups which are of interest to matrix and operator theory and we prove some new results on the extreme points and the absorbing elements of certain types of affine semigroups. Most notably we improve a result of Wendel that every invertible element in a compact affine semigroup is extreme by extending this result to linearly bounded affine semigroups.  相似文献

We investigate the conformally flat semi-Riemannian manifolds withnilpotent Ricci operators. We construct a lot of complete orhomogeneous, conformally flat semi-Riemannian manifolds with nilpotentRicci operators. In this construction, we show interesting relationsbetween the semi-Riemannian geometry and the affine differentialgeometry of centro-affine hypersurfaces.  相似文献

This paper deals with representations of groups by "affine" automorphisms of compact, convex spaces, with special focus on "irreducible" representations:equivalently "minimal" actions. When the group in question is PSL(2,R),the authors exhibit a oneone correspondence between bounded harmonic functions on the upper half-plane and a certain class of irreducible representations. This analysis shows that, surprisingly, all these representations are equivalent. In fact,it is found that all irreducible affine representations of this group are equivalent. The key to this is a property called "linear Stone-Weierstrass"for group actions on compact spaces. If it holds for the "universal strongly proximal space"of the group (to be defined),then the induced action on the space of probability measures on this space is the unique irreducible affine representation of the group.  相似文献
