This paper studies the existence of a uniform global error bound when a convex inequality g 0, where g is a closed proper convex function, is perturbed. The perturbation neighborhoods are defined by small arbitrary perturbations of the epigraph of its conjugate function. Under certain conditions, it is shown that for sufficiently small arbitrary perturbations the perturbed system is solvable and there exists a uniform global error bound if and only if g satisfies the Slater condition and the solution set is bounded or its recession function satisfies the Slater condition. The results are used to derive lower bounds on the distance to ill-posedness.  相似文献

In this paper several types of perturbations on a convex inequality system are considered, and conditions are obtained for the system to be well-conditioned under these types of perturbations, where the well-conditionedness of a convex inequality system is defined in terms of the uniform boundedness of condition numbers under a set of perturbations. It is shown that certain types of perturbations can be used to characterize the well-conditionedness of a convex inequality system, in which either the system has a bounded solution set and satisfies the Slater condition or an associated convex inequality system, which defines the recession cone of the solution set for the system, satisfies the Slater condition. Finally, sufficient conditions are given for the existence of a global error bound for an analytic system. It is shown that such a global error bound always holds for any inequality system defined by finitely many convex analytic functions when the zero vector is in the relative interior of the domain of an associated convex conjugate function.  相似文献

Burke, Goldstein, Tseng, and Ye (Ref. 1) have presented an interesting interior-point algorithm for a class of smooth convex minimax problems. They have also presented a complexity analysis leading to a worst-case bound on the total work necessary to obtain a solution within a prescribed tolerance. In this paper, we present refinements to the analysis of Burke et al. which show that the resulting complexity bound can be worse than those for other algorithms available at the time Ref. 1 was published.  相似文献

A global error bound is given on the distance between an arbitrary point in then-dimensional real spaceR n and its projection on a nonempty convex set determined bym convex, possibly nondifferentiable, inequalities. The bound is in terms of a natural residual that measures the violations of the inequalities multiplied by a new simple condition constant that embodies a single strong Slater constraint qualification (CQ) which implies the ordinary Slater CQ. A very simple bound on the distance to the projection relative to the distance to a point satisfying the ordinary Slater CQ is given first and then used to derive the principal global error bound. The aim of this paper is to implement some new techniques, based on conjugate duality in convex optimization, for proving the existence of global error bounds for convex inequality systems. First of all, we deal with systems described via one convex inequality and extend the achieved results, by making use of a celebrated scalarization function, to convex inequality systems expressed by means of a general vector function. We also propose a second approach for guaranteeing the existence of global error bounds of the latter, which meanwhile sharpens the classical result of Robinson.  相似文献

A characterization for convex function to have global weak sharp minima is also presented, which generalized Burke and Ferris‘ result to infinite dimensional space. In this paper, we consider the computation of a rigorous lower error bound for the optimal value of convex optimization problems. A discussion of large-scale problems, degenerate problems, and quadratic programming problems is included. It is allowed that parameters, whichdefine the convex constraints and the convex objective functions, may be uncertain and may vary between given lower and upper bounds. The error bound is verified for the family of convex optimization problems which correspond to these uncertainties. It can be used to perform a rigorous sensitivity analysis in convex programming, provided the width of the uncertainties is not too large. Branch and bound algorithms can be made reliable by using such rigorous lower bounds.  相似文献

The optimization of systems which are described by ordinary differential equations (ODEs) is often complicated by the presence of nonconvexities. A deterministic spatial branch and bound global optimization algorithm is presented in this paper for systems with ODEs in the constraints. Upper bounds for the global optimum are produced using the sequential approach for the solution of the dynamic optimization problem. The required convex relaxation of the algebraic functions is carried out using well-known global optimization techniques. A convex relaxation of the time dependent information is obtained using the concept of differential inequalities in order to construct bounds on the space of solutions of parameter dependent ODEs as well as on their second-order sensitivities. This information is then incorporated in the convex lower bounding NLP problem. The global optimization algorithm is illustrated by applying it to four case studies. These include parameter estimation problems and simple optimal control problems. The application of different underestimation schemes and branching strategies is discussed.  相似文献

Convex envelopes are a very useful tool in global optimization. However finding the exact convex envelope of a function is a difficult task in general. This task becomes considerably simpler in the case where the domain is a polyhedron and the convex envelope is vertex polyhedral, i.e., has a polyhedral epigraph whose vertices correspond to the vertices of the domain. A further simplification is possible when the convex envelope is sum decomposable, i.e., the convex envelope of a sum of functions coincides with the sum of the convex envelopes of the summands. In this paper we provide characterizations and sufficient conditions for the existence of a vertex polyhedral convex envelope. Our results extend and unify several results previously obtained for special cases of this problem. We then characterize sum decomposability of vertex polyhedral convex envelopes, and we show, among else, that the vertex polyhedral convex envelope of a sum of functions coincides with the sum of the vertex polyhedral convex envelopes of the summands if and only if the latter sum is vertex polyhedral.  相似文献

A variant of Robinson-Ursescu Theorem is given in normed spaces. Several error bound theorems for convex inclusions are proved and in particular a positive answer to Li and Singer's conjecture is given under weaker assumption than the assumption required in their conjecture. We consider the following basic geometric problem: Given , a 2‐dimensional black‐and‐white figure is ?far from convex if it differs in at least an ? fraction of the area from every figure where the black object is convex. How many uniform and independent samples from a figure that is ?far from convex are needed to detect a violation of convexity with constant probability? This question arises in the context of designing property testers for convexity. We show that uniform samples (and the same running time) are necessary and sufficient for detecting a violation of convexity in an ?‐far figure and, equivalently, for testing convexity of figures with 1‐sided error. Our algorithm beats the lower bound by Schmeltz [32] on the number of samples required for learning convex figures under the uniform distribution. It demonstrates that, with uniform samples, we can check if a set is approximately convex much faster than we can find an approximate representation of a convex set.  相似文献

We give some sufficient conditions for proper lower semicontinuous functions on metric spaces to have error bounds (with exponents). For a proper convex function f on a normed space X the existence of a local error bound implies that of a global error bound. If in addition X is a Banach space, then error bounds can be characterized by the subdifferential of f. In a reflexive Banach space X, we further obtain several sufficient and necessary conditions for the existence of error bounds in terms of the lower Dini derivative of f. This paper studies the existence of a uniform global error bound when a system of linear inequalities is under local arbitrary perturbations. Specifically, given a possibly infinite system of linear inequalities satisfying the Slater’s condition and a certain compactness condition, it is shown that for sufficiently small arbitrary perturbations the perturbed system is solvable and there exists a uniform global error bound if and only if the original system is bounded or its homogeneous system has a strict solution. Mangasarian and Solodov have recently introduced an unconstrained optimization problem whose global minima are solutions of the nonlinear complementarity problem (NCP). In this paper, we show that, if the mapping involved in NCP has a positive-definite Jacobian, then any stationary point of the optimization problem actually solves NCP. We also discuss a descent method for solving the unconstrained optimization problem.The authors are indebted to a referee for a helpful suggestion that led them to develop the descent method described in Section 3. The paper is devoted to studying the Hoffman global error bound for convex quadratic/affine inequality/equality systems in the context of Banach spaces. We prove that the global error bound holds if the Hoffman local error bound is satisfied for each subsystem at some point of the solution set of the system under consideration. This result is applied to establishing the equivalence between the Hoffman error bound and the Abadie qualification condition, as well as a general version of Wang &; Pang's result [30], on error bound of Hölderian type. The results in the present paper generalize and unify recent works by Luo &; Luo in [17], Li in [16] and Wang &; Pang in [30].  相似文献

This paper presents solutions for numerical computation on convex hulls; computational algorithms that ensure logical consistency and accuracy are proposed. A complete numerical error analysis is presented. It is shown that a global error bound for vertex-facet adjacency does not exist under logically consistent procedures. To cope with practical requirements, vertex preconditioned polytope computations are introduced using point and hyperplane adjustments. A global bound on vertex-facet adjacency error is affected by the global bound on vertices; formulas are given for a conservative choice of global error bounds.  相似文献

Let Ω ⊂ ℝd be a compact convex set of positive measure. A cubature formula will be called positive definite (or a pd-formula, for short) if it approximates the integral ∫Ω f(x) dx of every convex function f from below. The pd-formulae yield a simple sharp error bound for twice continuously differentiable functions. In the univariate case (d = 1), they are the quadrature formulae with a positive semidefinite Peano kernel of order two. As one of the main results, we show that there is a correspondence between pd-formulae and partitions of unity on Ω. This is a key for an investigation of pd-formulae without employing the complicated multivariate analogue of Peano kernels. After introducing a preorder, we establish criteria for maximal pd-formulae. We also find a lower bound for the error constant of an optimal pd-formula. Finally, we describe a phenomenon which resembles a property of Gaussian formulae.  相似文献
