The synergistic combination of experiment and density functional theory has led to the discovery of the first ferromagnetic material, Nb6Fe1?xIr6+xB8, containing in its crystal structure iron chains embedded in stacked B6 rings. The strong ferromagnetic Fe–Fe interactions found in the iron chains induce an unexpected strengthening of the B–B interactions in the B6 rings. Beside these strong B–B interactions, strong interlayer metal–boron bonds (Ir–B and Nb–B) ensure the overall structural stability of this phase, while the magnetic Fe–Fe interactions are mainly responsible for the observed ferromagnetic ordering below TC=350 K.  相似文献

The first transition‐metal‐only double perovskite compound, Mn2+2Fe3+Re5+O6, with 17 unpaired d electrons displays ferrimagnetic ordering up to 520 K and a giant positive magnetoresistance of up to 220 % at 5 K and 8 T. These properties result from the ferrimagnetically coupled Fe and Re sublattice and are affected by a two‐to‐one magnetic‐structure transition of the Mn sublattice when a magnetic field is applied. Theoretical calculations indicate that the half‐metallic state can be mainly attributed to the spin polarization of the Fe and Re sites.  相似文献

We report a single‐chain magnet (SCM) made of a terbium(III) building block and a nitronyl‐nitroxide radical (NIT) functionalized with an aliphatic chain. This substitution is targeted to induce a long‐range distortion of the polymeric chain and accordingly it gives rise to chains that are curled with almost 20 nm helical pitch. They self‐organize as a chiral tubular superstructure made of 11 chains wound around each other. The supramolecular tubes have a 4.5 nm internal diameter. Overall, this forms a porous chiral network with almost 44 % porosity. Ab initio calculations highlight that each TbIII ion possesses high magnetic anisotropy. Indeed, notwithstanding the supramolecular arrangement each chain behaves as a SCM. Magnetic relaxation with both finite and infinite‐size regimes is observed and confirms the validity of the Ising approximation. This is associated with quite strong coercive field and magnetic remanence (Hc=2400 Oe MR=2.09 μB at 0.5 K) for this class of compounds.  相似文献

The crystal structure of the spin‐canted antiferromagnet β‐p‐NCC6F4CNSSN. at 12 K (reported in this work) was found to adopt the same orthorhombic space group as that previously determined at 160 K. The change in the magnetic properties of these two crystal structures has been rigorously studied by applying a first‐principles bottom‐up procedure above and below the magnetic transition temperature (36 K). Calculations of the magnetic exchange pathways on the 160 K structure reveal only one significant exchange coupling (J(d1)=?33.8 cm?1), which generates a three‐dimensional diamond‐like magnetic topology within the crystal. The computed magnetic susceptibility, χ(T), which was determined by using this magnetic topology, quantitatively reproduces the experimental features observed above 36 K. Owing to the anisotropic contraction of the crystal lattice, both the geometry of the intermolecular contacts at 12 K and the microscopic JAB radical–radical magnetic interactions change: the J(d1) radical–radical interaction becomes even more antiferromagnetic (?43.2 cm?1) and two additional ferromagnetic interactions appear (+7.6 and +7.3 cm?1). Consequently, the magnetic topologies of the 12 and 160 K structures differ: the 12 K magnetic topology exhibits two ferromagnetic sublattices that are antiferromagnetically coupled. The χ(T) curve, computed below 36 K at the limit of zero magnetic field by using the 12 K magnetic topology, reproduces the shape of the residual magnetic susceptibility (having subtracted the contribution to the magnetization arising from spin canting). The evolution of these two ferromagnetic JAB contributions explains the change in the slope of the residual magnetic susceptibility in the low‐temperature region.  相似文献

The synthesis, crystal structure, and magnetic properties (from a combined experimental and First‐Principles Bottom‐Up theoretical study) of the new compound catena‐dichloro(2‐Cl‐3Mpy)copper(II), 1 , [2‐Cl‐3Mpy=2‐chloro‐3‐methylpyridine] are described and rationalized. Crystals of 1 present well isolated magnetic 1D chains (no 3D order was experimentally observed down to 1.8 K) and magnetic frustration stemming from competing ferromagnetic nearest‐neighbor (JNN) interactions and antiferromagnetic next‐nearest neighbor (JNNN) interactions, in which α=JNNN/JNN <?0.25. These magnetic interactions give rise to a unique magnetic topology: a two‐leg zigzag ladder composed of edge‐sharing up‐down triangles with antiferromagnetic interactions along the rails and ferromagnetic interactions along the zigzag chain that connects the rails. Crystals of 1 also present a random distribution of the 2‐Cl‐3Mpy groups, which are arranged in two different orientations, each with a 50 % occupancy. This translates into a random static structural disorder within each chain by virtue of which the value of the JNN magnetic interactions can randomly take one of the following three values: 53, 36, and 16 cm?1. The structural disorder does not affect the JNNN value, which in all cases is approximately ?9 cm?1. A proper statistical treatment of this disorder provides a computed magnetic susceptibility curve that reproduces the main features of the experimental data.  相似文献

X‐ray studies show that 1,3‐diphenyl‐7‐(thien‐2‐yl)‐1,4‐dihydro‐1,2,4‐benzotriazin‐4‐yl ( 6 ) adopts a distorted, slipped π‐stacked structure of centrosymmetric dimers with alternate short and long interplanar distances (3.48 and 3.52 Å). Cyclic voltammograms of 7‐(thien‐2‐yl)benzotriazin‐4‐yl 6 show two fully reversible waves that correspond to the ?1/0 and 0/+1 processes. EPR and DFT studies on radical 6 indicate that the spin density is mainly delocalized over the triazinyl fragment. Magnetic susceptibility measurements show that radical 6 obeys Curie–Weiss behavior in the 5–300 K region with C=0.378 emu K mol?1 and θ=+4.72 K, which is consistent with ferromagnetic interactions between S=1/2 radicals. Fitting the magnetic susceptibility revealed the behavior is consistent with an alternating ferromagnetic chain (g=2.0071, J1=+7.12 cm?1, J2=+1.28 cm?1).  相似文献

Reaction of FeCl2?4 H2O with KNCSe and pyridine in ethanol leads to the formation of the discrete complex [Fe(NCSe)2(pyridine)4] ( 1 ) in which the FeII cations are coordinated by two N‐terminal‐bonded selenocyanato anions and four pyridine co‐ligands. Thermal treatment of compound 1 enforces the removal of half of the co‐ligands leading to the formation of a ligand‐deficient (lacking on neutral co‐ligands) intermediate of composition [Fe(NCSe)2(pyridine)2]n ( 2 ) to which we have found no access in the liquid phase. Compound 2 is obtained only as a microcrystalline powder, but it is isotypic to [Cd(NCSe)2(pyridine)2]n and therefore, its structure was determined by Rietveld refinement. In its crystal structure the metal cations are coordinated by two pyridine ligands and four selenocyanato anions and are linked into chains by μ‐1,3 bridging anionic ligands. Magnetic measurements on compound 1 show only paramagnetic behavior, whereas for compound 2 an unexpected magnetic behavior is found, which to the best of our knowledge was never observed before for a iron(II) homospin compound. In this compound metamagnetism and single‐chain magnetic behavior coexist. The metamagnetic transition between the antiferromagnetically ordered phase and a field‐induced ferromagnetic phase of the high‐spin iron(II) spin carriers is observed at a transition field HC of 1300 Oe and the single‐chain magnetic behavior is characterized by a blocking temperature TB, estimated to be about 5 K.  相似文献

Based on the bis‐triazole ligand 2, 6‐bis(1, 2,4‐triazole‐4‐yl)pyridine (L), the triazole‐iron(II) complexes [Fe(L)2(dca)2(H2O)2] · 2H2O ( 1 ) (Nadca = sodium dicyanamide), {[Fe(μ2‐L)2(H2O)2]Cl2}n ( 2 ), and {[Fe(μ2‐L)2(H2O)2](ClO4)2 · L · H2O}n ( 3 ) were isolated by solvent diffusion methods. When iron(II) salts and Nadca were used, compound 1 was isolated, which contains mononuclear Fe(L)2(dca)2(H2O)2 units. When FeCl2 or FeClO4 were used, one‐dimensional (1D) cation iron(II) chains ( 2 ) and two‐dimensional (2D) cation iron(II) networks ( 3 ) were isolated indicating anion directing structural diversity. Moreover, variable‐temperature magnetic susceptibility data of 1 – 3 were recorded in the temperature range 2–300 K. The magnetic curve of complex 2 was fitted by using the classical spin Heisenberg chain model indicating anti‐ferromagnetic interactions (J = –5.31 cm–1). Obviously complexes 1 – 3 show no detectable thermal spin crossover behaviors, the lack of spin‐crossover behavior may be correlated with FeN4O2 coordination spheres in 1 – 3 .  相似文献

Two one‐dimensional compounds composed of a 1:1 ratio of MnIII salen‐type complex and NiII oximato moiety with different counter anions, PF6? and BPh4?, were synthesized: [Mn(3,5‐Cl2saltmen)Ni(pao)2(phen)]PF6 ( 1 ) and [Mn(5‐Clsaltmen)Ni(pao)2(phen)]BPh4 ( 2 ), where 3,5‐Cl2saltmen2?=N,N′‐(1,1,2,2‐tetramethylethylene)bis(3,5‐dichlorosalicylideneiminate); 5‐Clsaltmen2?=N,N′‐(1,1,2,2‐tetramethylethylene)bis(5‐chlorosalicylideneiminate); pao?=pyridine‐2‐aldoximate; and phen=1,10‐phenanthroline. Single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction study was carried out for both compounds. In 1 and 2 , the chain topology is very similar forming an alternating linear chain with a [‐MnIII‐ON‐NiII‐NO‐] repeating motif (where ‐ON‐ is the oximate bridge). The use of a bulky counteranion, such as BPh4?, located between the chains in 2 rather than PF6? in 1 , successfully led to the magnetic isolation of the chains in 2 . This minimization of the interchain interactions allows the study of the intrinsic magnetic properties of the chains present in 1 and 2 . While 1 and 2 possess, as expected, very similar paramagnetic properties above 15 K, their ground state is antiferromagnetic below 9.4 K and paramagnetic down to 1.8 K, respectively. Nevertheless, both compounds exhibit a magnet‐type behavior at temperatures below 6 K. While for 2 , the observed magnetism is well explained by a Single‐Chain Magnet (SCM) behavior, the magnet properties for 1 are induced by the presence in the material of SCM building units that order antiferromagnetically. By controlling both intra‐ and interchain magnetic interactions in this new [MnIIINiII] SCM system, a remarkable AF phase with a magnet‐type behavior has been stabilized in relation with the intrinsic SCM properties of the chains present in 1 . This result suggests that the simultaneous enhancement of both intrachain (J) and interchain (J′) magnetic interactions (with keeping J ? J′), independently of the presence of AF phase might be an efficient route to design high temperature SCM‐based magnets.  相似文献

Ferrimagnetic A2BB′O6 double perovskites, such as Sr2FeMoO6, are important spin‐polarized conductors. Introducing transition metals at the A‐sites offers new possibilities to increase magnetization and tune magnetoresistance. Herein we report a ferrimagnetic double perovskite, Mn2FeReO6, synthesized at high pressure which has a high Curie temperature of 520 K and magnetizations of up to 5.0 μB which greatly exceed those for other double perovskite ferrimagnets. A novel switching transition is discovered at 75 K where magnetoresistance changes from conventional negative tunneling behavior to large positive values, up to 265 % at 7 T and 20 K. Neutron diffraction shows that the switch is driven by magnetic frustration from antiferromagnetic Mn2+ spin ordering which cants Fe3+ and Re5+ spins and reduces spin‐polarization. Ferrimagnetic double perovskites based on A‐site Mn2+ thus offer new opportunities to enhance magnetization and control magnetoresistance in spintronic materials.  相似文献

Sr2BUO6 double perovskites with B′=Mn, Fe, Ni, Zn have been prepared in polycrystalline form by solid-state reaction, in air or reducing conditions. These new materials have been studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD), magnetic susceptibility and magnetization measurements. The room-temperature crystal structure is monoclinic (space group P21/n), and contains alternating B′O6 and UO6 octahedra sharing corners, tilted along the three pseudocubic axes according to the Glazer notation aab+. The magnetic measurements show a spontaneous magnetic ordering below TN=21 K for B′=Mn, Ni, and TC=150 K for B′=Fe. From a Curie-Weiss fit, the effective paramagnetic moment for B′=Mn (5.74 μB/f.u.) and B′=Ni(3.51 μB/f.u.) are significantly different from the corresponding spin-only moments for the divalent cations, suggesting the possibility of a partial charge disproportionation B2++U6+B3++U5+, also accounting for plausible ferrimagnetic interactions between B′ and U sublattices. The strong curvature of the reciprocal susceptibility for B′=Fe precludes a Curie-Weiss fit but also suggests the presence of ferrimagnetic interactions in this compound. This charge disproportionation effect is also supported by the observed B′O distances, which are closer to the expected values for high-spin, trivalent Mn, Fe and Ni cations.  相似文献

Structural and Magnetochemical Studies on KCuGaF6 The crystal structure of KCuGaF6 was determined on the base of X‐ray single crystal data (wR2 = 0.084 for 2476 independent reflections). The compound crystallizes with a = 728.56(4), b = 989.51(6), c = 676.27(3) pm, β = 93.120(5)°, Z = 4 in space group P21/c of the pyrochlore related KCuCrF6 type. The octahedral coordinations [GaF6] and [CuF6] are slightly resp. strongly distorted (mean values Ga‐F: 188.2 pm resp. Cu‐F: 188.2/200.1/227.6 pm). The longest distances Ga‐F and the shortest ones Cu‐F are found within octahedral chains of these two kinds of atoms, running along [100] and [001], resp., and being mutually bridged as well (M‐F‐M in between 114 and 145°). The magnetic mole susceptibilities measured at powders and at a single crystal follow the isotropic Heisenberg model for S = 1/2, if effects of chain disrupture are considered in the form of some paramagnetic portion. No indication of threedimensional magnetic order is observed down to T = 2 K and low magnetic fields H < 100 G. KCuGaF6 (J/k = —71 K for the powder) is distinguished this way from the chain structure compounds KCuAlF6 und Na2CuScF7 (J/k = —76 resp. —59 K) which were also magnetically studied and yield similar antiferromagnetic exchange constants J/k.  相似文献

The new ternary rhodium borides Mg3Rh5B2 and Sc3Rh5B2 (P4/mbm, Z = 2; a = 943.4(1) pm, c = 292.2(1) pm and a = 943.2(1) pm, c = 308.7(1) pm, respectively) crystallize with the Ti3Co5B2 type structure. Mg and Sc may in part be substituted by a variety of elements M. For M = Si and Fe, homogeneity ranges were found according to A3–xMxRh5B2 with 0 ≤ x ≤ 1.0 for A = Sc and with x up to 1.5 for A = Mg. Quaternary compounds with x = 1 (A2MRh5B2: A/M in short) were prepared with M = Be, Al, Si, P, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Ga, Ge, As, Sn (Co, Ni only with A = Mg; Sn only with A = Sc; P, As with deficiencies). Single crystal X‐ray investigations show an ordered substitutional variant of the Ti3Co5B2 type in which the M atoms are arranged in chains along [001] with intrachain and interchain M–M distances of about 300 pm and 660 pm, respectively. Measuring the magnetisation (1.7 K–800 K) of the phases Mg/Mn, Sc/Mn, Mg/Fe, and Sc/Fe reveals antiferromagnetic interactions in the first and dominating ferromagnetic intrachain interactions in the remaining ones. Interchain interactions of antiferromagnetic nature are evident in Sc/Mn and Mg/Fe leading to metamagnetism below TN = 130 K, while Sc/Fe behaves ferromagnetically below TC = 450 K. The overall trend towards stronger ferromagnetic interactions with increasing valence electron concentration is obvious.  相似文献

In contrast to diradicals connected by alternant hydrocarbons, only a few studies on those connected by nonalternant hydrocarbons have been reported. The syntheses, structures, and magnetic properties of azulene‐1,3‐diyl linked bis(nitronyl nitroxide) (NN2Az) and bis(iminonitroxide) (IN2Az) diradicals and their Cu(hfac)2 (hfac=hexafluoroacetylacetonate) complexes were investigated. NN2Az was shown to have an intramolecular ferromagnetic interaction with J obs/k B=+10.0 K (H =−2J S 1 ⋅S 2) between (nitronyl nitroxide) spins, whereas IN2Az was estimated to have a much weaker intramolecular magnetic interaction. The reactions of NN2Az and IN2Az with Cu(hfac)2 gave a 1:2 [{Cu(hfac)2}2(NN2Az)] complex and a 1:1 [Cu(hfac)2(IN2Az)] ⋅ C6H12 complex, respectively. [{Cu(hfac)2}2(NN2Az)] showed strong intramolecular antiferromagnetic interactions (J 1‐Cu‐R/k B≈−800 K, J 2‐Cu‐R/k B≈−500 K) between the CuII spins and the coordinating NN spins, whereas [Cu(hfac)2(IN2Az)] exhibited a ferromagnetic exchange interaction (J obs‐Cu‐R/k B=+114 K) between the CuII spin and the imino‐coordinated iminonitroxide spin.  相似文献

The title compound, [MnCl2(C24H20N6)], has been synthesized and characterized based on the multifunctional ligand 2,5‐bis(2,2′‐bipyridyl‐6‐yl)‐3,4‐diazahexa‐2,4‐diene (L). The MnII centre is five‐coordinate with an approximately square‐pyramidal geometry. The L ligand acts as a tridendate chelating ligand. The mononuclear molecules are bridged into a one‐dimensional chain by two C—H...Cl hydrogen bonds. These chains are assembled into a two‐dimensional layer through π–π stacking interactions between adjacent uncoordinated bipyridyl groups. Furthermore, a three‐dimensional supramolecular framework is attained through π–π stacking interactions between adjacent coordinated bipyridyl groups.  相似文献

By using the node‐and‐spacer approach in suitable solvents, four new heterotrimetallic 1D chain‐like compounds (that is, containing 3d–3d′–4f metal ions), {[Ni(L)Ln(NO3)2(H2O)Fe(Tp*)(CN)3] ? 2 CH3CN ? CH3OH}n (H2L=N,N′‐bis(3‐methoxysalicylidene)‐1,3‐diaminopropane, Tp*=hydridotris(3,5‐dimethylpyrazol‐1‐yl)borate; Ln=Gd ( 1 ), Dy ( 2 ), Tb ( 3 ), Nd ( 4 )), have been synthesized and structurally characterized. All of these compounds are made up of a neutral cyanide‐ and phenolate‐bridged heterotrimetallic chain, with a {? Fe? C?N? Ni(? O? Ln)? N?C? }n repeat unit. Within these chains, each [(Tp*)Fe(CN)3]? entity binds to the NiII ion of the [Ni(L)Ln(NO3)2(H2O)]+ motif through two of its three cyanide groups in a cis mode, whereas each [Ni(L)Ln(NO3)2(H2O)]+ unit is linked to two [(Tp*)Fe(CN)3]? ions through the NiII ion in a trans mode. In the [Ni(L)Ln(NO3)2(H2O)]+ unit, the NiII and LnIII ions are bridged to one other through two phenolic oxygen atoms of the ligand (L). Compounds 1 – 4 are rare examples of 1D cyanide‐ and phenolate‐bridged 3d–3d′–4f helical chain compounds. As expected, strong ferromagnetic interactions are observed between neighboring FeIII and NiII ions through a cyanide bridge and between neighboring NiII and LnIII (except for NdIII) ions through two phenolate bridges. Further magnetic studies show that all of these compounds exhibit single‐chain magnetic behavior. Compound 2 exhibits the highest effective energy barrier (58.2 K) for the reversal of magnetization in 3d/4d/5d–4f heterotrimetallic single‐chain magnets.  相似文献

Polycrystalline samples of two complex intermetallic borides Zr2Fe1−δRu5+δB2 and Zr2Fe1−δ(Ru1−xRhx)5+δB2 (δ=ca. 0.10; x=0.20) were synthesized by high-temperature methods and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, energy dispersive spectroscopy, and magnetization measurements. Both structures are variants of Sc2Fe(Ru1−xRhx)5B2 and crystallize in the space group P4/mbm (no. 127) with the Ti3Co5B2-type structure. These structures contain single-atom, Fe-rich Fe/Ru or Fe/Ru/Rh chains along the c-axis with an interatomic metal-metal distance of 3.078(1) Å, a feature which makes them viable for possible low-dimensional temperature-dependent magnetic behavior. Magnetization measurements indicated weak ferrimagnetic ordering with ordering temperatures ca. 230 K for both specimens. Tight-binding electronic structure calculations on a model “Zr2FeRu5B2” using LDA yielded a narrow peak at the Fermi level assigned to Fe-Fe antibonding interactions along the c-axis, a result that indicates an electronic instability toward ferromagnetic coupling along these chains. Spin-polarized calculations of various magnetic models were examined to identify possible magnetic ordering within and between the single-atom, Fe-rich chains.  相似文献

Two low‐lying structures are unveiled for the Be6B11 nanocluster system that are virtually isoenergetic. The first, triple‐layered cluster has a peripheral B11 ring as central layer, being sandwiched by two Be3 rings in a coaxial fashion, albeit with no discernible interlayer Be−Be bonding. The B11 ring revolves like a flexible chain even at room temperature, gliding freely around the Be6 prism. At elevated temperatures (1000 K), the Be6 core itself also rotates; that is, two Be3 rings undergo relative rotation or twisting with respect to each other. Bonding analyses suggest four‐fold (π and σ) aromaticity, offering a dilute and fluxional electron cloud that lubricates the dynamics. The second, helix‐type cluster contains a B11 helical skeleton encompassing a distorted Be6 prism. It is chiral and is the first nanosystem with a boron helix. Molecular dynamics also shows that at high temperature the helix cluster readily converts into the triple‐layered one.  相似文献

The structure analyses of sodium chromium digermanate, NaCrGe2O6, (I), and lithium chromium digermanate, LiCrGe2O6, (II), provide important structural information for the clinopyroxene family, and form part of our ongoing studies on the phase transitions and magnetic properties of clinopyroxenes. (I) shows C2/c symmetry at 298 K, contains one Na, one Cr (both site symmetry 2 on special position 4e), one Ge and three O‐atom positions (on general positions 8f) and displays the well known clinopyroxene topology. The basic units of the structure of (I) are infinite zigzag chains of edge‐sharing Cr3+O6 octahedra (M1 site), infinite chains of corner‐sharing GeO4 tetrahedra, connected to the M1 chains by common corners, and Na sites occupying interstitial space. (II) was found to have P21/c symmetry at 298 K. The structure contains one Na, one Cr, two distinct Ge and six O‐atom positions, all on general positions 4e. The general topology of the structure of (II) is similar to that of (I); however, the loss of the twofold symmetry makes it possible for two distinct tetrahedral chains, having different conformation states, to exist. While sodium is (6+2)‐fold coordinated, lithium displays a pure sixfold coordination. Structural details are given and chemical comparison is made between silicate and germanate chromium‐based clinopyroxenes.  相似文献

Functional oxides whose physicochemical properties may be reversibly changed at standard conditions are potential candidates for the use in next‐generation nanoelectronic devices. To date, vanadium dioxide (VO2) is the only known simple transition‐metal oxide that demonstrates a near‐room‐temperature metal–insulator transition that may be used in such appliances. In this work, we synthesized and investigated the crystals of a novel mixed‐valent iron oxide with an unconventional Fe5O6 stoichiometry. Near 275 K, Fe5O6 undergoes a Verwey‐type charge‐ordering transition that is concurrent with a dimerization in the iron chains and a following formation of new Fe?Fe chemical bonds. This unique feature highlights Fe5O6 as a promising candidate for the use in innovative applications. We established that the minimal Fe?Fe distance in the octahedral chains is a key parameter that determines the type and temperature of charge ordering. This model provides new insights into charge‐ordering phenomena in transition‐metal oxides in general.  相似文献
