A unified a posteriori error analysis is derived in extension of Carstensen (Numer Math 100:617–637, 2005) and Carstensen and Hu (J Numer Math 107(3):473–502, 2007) for a wide range of discontinuous Galerkin (dG) finite element methods (FEM), applied to the Laplace, Stokes, and Lamé equations. Two abstract assumptions (A1) and (A2) guarantee the reliability of explicit residual-based computable error estimators. The edge jumps are recast via lifting operators to make arguments already established for nonconforming finite element methods available. The resulting reliable error estimate is applied to 16 representative dG FEMs from the literature. The estimate recovers known results as well as provides new bounds to a number of schemes. C. For elliptic interface problems with flux jumps, this article studies robust residual‐ and recovery‐based a posteriori error estimators for the conforming finite element approximation. The residual estimator is a natural extension of that developed in [Bernardi and Verfürth, Numer Math 85 (2000), 579–608; Petzoldt, Adv Comp Math 16 (2002), 47–75], and the recovery estimator is a nontrivial extension of our method developed in Cai and Zhang, SIAM J Numer Anal 47 (2009) 2132–2156. It is shown theoretically that reliability and efficiency bounds of these error estimators are independent of the jumps provided that the distribution of the coefficients is locally monotone. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this work we derive and analyze a posteriori error estimators for low-order nonconforming finite element methods of the linear elasticity problem on both triangular and quadrilateral meshes, with hanging nodes allowed for local mesh refinement. First, it is shown that equilibrated Neumann data on interelement boundaries are simply given by the local weak residuals of the numerical solution. The first error estimator is then obtained by applying the equilibrated residual method with this set of Neumann data. From this implicit estimator we also derive two explicit error estimators, one of which is similar to the one proposed by Dörfler and Ainsworth (2005) [24] for the Stokes problem. It is established that all these error estimators are reliable and efficient in a robust way with respect to the Lamé constants. The main advantage of our error estimators is that they yield guaranteed, i.e., constant-free upper bounds for the energy-like error (up to higher order terms due to data oscillation) when a good estimate for the inf-sup constant is available, which is confirmed by some numerical results.  相似文献

In this article we study a projection‐stabilized nonconforming finite element discretization of the Stokes problem. We present a priori error analysis and give a recovery‐based a posteriori error estimator for the considered problem. Summary We present an a posteriori error estimator for the non-conforming Crouzeix-Raviart discretization of the Stokes equations which is based on the local evaluation of residuals with respect to the strong form of the differential equation. The error estimator yields global upper and local lower bounds for the error of the finite element solution. It can easily be generalized to the stationary, incompressible Navier-Stokes equations and to other non-conforming finite element methods. Numerical examples show the efficiency of the proposed error estimator.  相似文献

This paper presents an a posteriori error analysis for the linear finite element approximation of the Signorini problem in two space dimensions. A posteriori estimations of residual type are defined and upper and lower bounds of the discretization error are obtained. We perform several numerical experiments in order to compare the convergence of the terms in the error estimator with the discretization error.  相似文献

This paper presents a robust a posteriori residual error estimator for diffusion-convection-reaction problems with anisotropic diffusion, approximated by a SUPG finite element method on isotropic or anisotropic meshes in Rd, d=2 or 3. The equivalence between the energy norm of the error and the residual error estimator is proved. Numerical tests confirm the theoretical results.  相似文献

In this paper, we study an edge-stabilization Galerkin approximation scheme for the constrained optimal-control problem governed by convection-dominated diffusion equation. The method uses least-square stabilization of the gradient jumps across element edges. A priori and a posteriori error estimates are derived for both the state, co-state and the control. The theoretical results are illustrated by two numerical experiments.  相似文献

We propose a stabilized finite element method for the approximation of the biharmonic equation with a clamped boundary condition. The mixed formulation of the biharmonic equation is obtained by introducing the gradient of the solution and a Lagrange multiplier as new unknowns. Working with a pair of bases forming a biorthogonal system, we can easily eliminate the gradient of the solution and the Lagrange multiplier from the saddle point system leading to a positive definite formulation. Using a superconvergence property of a gradient recovery operator, we prove an optimal a priori estimate for the finite element discretization for a class of meshes.  相似文献

This article discusses a priori and a posteriori error estimates of discontinuous Galerkin finite element method for optimal control problem governed by the transport equation. We use variational discretization concept to discretize the control variable and discontinuous piecewise linear finite elements to approximate the state and costate variable. Based on the error estimates of discontinuous Galerkin finite element method for the transport equation, we get a priori and a posteriori error estimates for the transport equation optimal control problem. Finally, two numerical experiments are carried out to confirm the theoretical analysis.© 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Numer Methods Partial Differential Eq 33: 1493–1512, 2017  相似文献

In this work we present an adaptive strategy (based on an a posteriori error estimator) for a stabilized finite element method for the Stokes problem, with and without a reaction term. The hierarchical type estimator is based on the solution of local problems posed on appropriate finite dimensional spaces of bubble-like functions. An equivalence result between the norm of the finite element error and the estimator is given, where the dependence of the constants on the physics of the problem is explicited. Several numerical results confirming both the theoretical results and the good performance of the estimator are given.  相似文献

We consider some (anisotropic and piecewise constant) diffusion problems in domains of R2, approximated by a discontinuous Galerkin method with polynomials of any fixed degree. We propose an a posteriori error estimator based on gradient recovery by averaging. It is shown that this estimator gives rise to an upper bound where the constant is one up to some additional terms that guarantee reliability. The lower bound is also established. Moreover these additional terms are negligible when the recovered gradient is superconvergent. The reliability and efficiency of the proposed estimator is confirmed by some numerical tests.  相似文献

The aim of this note is to improve the regularity results obtained by H. Beirao da Veiga in 2008 for a class of p-fluid flows in a cubic domain. The key idea is exploiting the better regularity of solutions in the tangential directions with respect to the normal one, by appealing to anisotropic Sobolev embeddings.  相似文献

Summary. Both for the - and -norms, we prove that, up to higher order perturbation terms, edge residuals yield global upper and local lower bounds on the error of linear finite element methods on anisotropic triangular or tetrahedral meshes. We also show that, with a correct scaling, edge residuals yield a robust error estimator for a singularly perturbed reaction-diffusion equation. We investigate the a posteriori estimation of the modeling (or linearization) error which arises when a nonlinear problem is replaced by a linear model. Using the context of strongly monotone operators, we construct a computable upper estimator for this error, and also provide an estimator that gives a lower bound. Several numerical results illustrating our theory are provided.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose a posteriori error estimators for certain quantities of interest for a first-order least-squares finite element method. In particular, we propose an a posteriori error estimator for when one is interested in where . Our a posteriori error estimators are obtained by assigning proper weight (in terms of local mesh size hT) to the terms of the least-squares functional. An a posteriori error analysis yields reliable and efficient estimates based on residuals. Numerical examples are presented to show the effectivity of our error estimators.  相似文献

The a posteriori error analysis of conforming finite element discretisations of the biharmonic problem for plates is well established, but nonconforming discretisations are more easy to implement in practice. The a posteriori error analysis for the Morley plate element appears very particular because two edge contributions from an integration by parts vanish simultaneously. This crucial property is lacking for popular rectangular nonconforming finite element schemes like the nonconforming rectangular Morley finite element, the incomplete biquadratic finite element, and the Adini finite element. This paper introduces a novel methodology and utilises some conforming discrete space on macro elements to prove reliability and efficiency of an explicit residual-based a posteriori error estimator. An application to the Morley triangular finite element shows the surprising result that all averaging techniques yield reliable error bounds. Numerical experiments confirm the reliability and efficiency for the established a posteriori error control on uniform and graded tensor-product meshes.  相似文献

Summary. We consider a second-order elliptic equation with discontinuous or anisotropic coefficients in a bounded two- or three dimensional domain, and its finite-element discretization. The aim of this paper is to prove some a priori and a posteriori error estimates in an appropriate norm, which are independent of the variation of the coefficients. Summary. Besides an algorithm for local refinement, an a posteriori error estimator is the basic tool of every adaptive finite element method. Using information generated by such an error estimator the refinement of the grid is controlled. For 2nd order elliptic problems we present an error estimator for anisotropically refined grids, like -d cuboidal and 3-d prismatic grids, that gives correct information about the size of the error; additionally it generates information about the direction into which some element has to be refined to reduce the error in a proper way. Numerical examples are presented for 2-d rectangular and 3-d prismatic grids. Received March 15, 1994 / Revised version received June 3, 1994  相似文献
