Terpolymers composed of Nn‐propylacrylamide (NPAAm), butyl methacrylate (BMA), and N,N‐diethylaminoethyl methacrylate (DEAEMA) were prepared in an attempt to investigate the temperature‐induced phase transition and its mechanism. Poly(NPAAm) showed the lower critical solution temperature (LCST) around 24°C in water. With the incorporation of DEAEMA with NPAAm, the LCST change was characterized by an initial increase. However, the LCST was shifted to the lower temperature at the later stage. This might be explained in terms of hydrophilic/hydrophobic contribution of DEAEMA to the LCST. The swelling behavior of copolymer gel in the various solvents and spin‐lattice relaxation time (T1) study by NMR strongly suggested the hydrophilic/hydrophobic contribution of DEAEMA to the LCST depending on the local environment. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A method was developed to enable the formation of nanoparticles by reversible addition–fragmentation chain transfer polymerization. The thermoresponsive behavior of polymeric micelles was modified by means of micellar inner cores and an outer shell. Polymeric micelles comprising AB block copolymers of poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PIPAAm) and poly(2‐hydroxyethylacrylate) (PHEA) or polystyrene (PSt) were prepared. PIPAAm‐b‐PHEA and PIPAAm‐b‐PSt block copolymers formed a core–shell micellar structure after the dialysis of the block copolymer solutions in organic solvents against water at 20 °C. Upon heating above the lower critical solution temperature (LCST), PIPAAm‐b‐PHEA micelles exhibited an abrupt increase in polarity and an abrupt decrease in rigidity sensed by pyrene. In contrast, PIPAAm‐b‐PSt micelles maintained constant values with lower polarity and higher rigidity than those of PIPAAm‐b‐PHEA micelles over the temperature range of 20–40 °C. Structural deformations produced by the change in the outer polymer shell with temperature cycles through the LCST were proposed for the PHEA core, which possessed a lower glass‐transition temperature (ca. 20 °C) than the LCST of the PIPAAm outer shell (ca. 32.5 °C), whereas the PSt core with a much higher glass‐transition temperature (ca. 100 °C) retained its structure. The nature of the hydrophobic segments composing the micelle inner core offered an important control point for thermoresponsive drug release and the drug activity of the thermoresponsive polymeric micelles. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this research, thermoresponsive copolymer latex particles with an average diameter of about 200–500 nm were prepared via surfactant‐free emulsion polymerization. The thermoresponsive properties of these particles were designed by the addition of hydrophilic monomers [acrylic acid (AA) and sodium acrylate (SA)] to copolymerize with N‐isopropylacrylamide (NIPAAm). The effects of the comonomers and composition on the synthesis mechanism, kinetics, particle size, morphology, and thermoresponsive properties of the copolymer latex were also studied to determine the relationships between the synthesis conditions, the particle morphology, and the thermoresponsive properties. The results showed that the addition of hydrophilic AA or SA affected the mechanism and kinetics of polymerization. The lower critical solution temperature (LCST) of the latex copolymerized with AA rose to a higher temperature. However, because the strong hydrophilic and ionic properties of SA caused a core–shell structure, where NIPAAm was in the inner core and SA was in the outer shell, the LCST of the latex copolymerized with SA was still the same as that of pure poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) latex. It was concluded that these submicrometer copolymer latex particles with different thermoresponsive properties could be applied in many fields. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly(L ‐lactide) (PLLA) with terminal primary amino groups (PLLA‐NH2) was synthesized and used to construct PLLA‐grafted pullulan (Pul‐g‐PLLA). It consisted of a hydrophilic carboxymethyl Pul (CM‐Pul) main chain and hydrophobic PLLA graft chains that were created through a direct coupling reaction between PLLA‐NH2 and CM‐Pul using 2‐ethoxy‐1‐(ethoxycarbonyl)‐1,2‐dihydroquinoline as a condensation reagent. Pul‐g‐PLLAs with over 78 wt % sugar unit content were found to form nanometer‐sized aggregates in water. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 42: 5482–5487, 2004  相似文献

A series of water‐soluble thermoresponsive hyperbranched copoly(oligoethylene glycol)s were synthesized by copolymerization of di(ethylene glycol) methacrylate (DEG‐MA) and oligo(ethylene glycol) methacrylate (OEG‐MA, Mw = 475 g/mol), with ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGD‐MA) used as the crosslinker, via reversible addition fragmentation chain transfer polymerization. Polymers were characterized by size exclusion chromatography and nuclear magnetic resonance analyses. According to the monomer composition, that is, the ratio of OEG‐MA: DEG‐MA: EGD‐MA, the lower critical solution temperature (LCST) could be tuned from 25 °C to 90 °C. The thermoresponsive properties of these hyperbranched copolymers were studied carefully and compared with their linear analogs. It was found that molecular architecture influences thermoresponsive behavior, with a decrease of around 5–10 °C in the LCST of the hyperbranched polymers compared with the LCST of linear chains. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Novel biodegradable poly(carbonate‐ether)s (PCEs) with lower critical solution temperature (LCST) at body temperature were synthesized by copolymerization of CO2 and ethylene oxide (EO) under double metal cyanide (DMC) catalyst. The PCEs showed carbonate unit (CU) content of 1.0–42.4 mol % and molecular weight of 2.7–247 kg/mol, which exhibited reversible thermoresponsive feature in deionized water with LCST in a broad window from 21.5 to 84.1 °C. The LCST was highly sensitive to the CU content and the molecular weight of PCEs, and it showed a linear relation with CU content for PCEs with similar molecular weight. In particular, aqueous solution of PCE with a 26.0 mol % of CU showed an LCST around 36.1 °C, which was very close to the body temperature. Interestingly, it was found that the phase transition behavior changed with PCE concentration. For PCE with Mn of 2.7 kg/mol and CU content of 30.0 mol %, the LCST increased from 21.5 to 36.7 °C when the PCE concentration changed from 10 to 1 g/L. Dynamic light scattering indicated that the phase transition was possibly due to a coil‐to‐globule transition. The thermoresponsive biodegradable PCE with LCST at body temperature is promising for biomedical applications, especially for in vivo applications. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Self‐immolative polymers (SIPs) undergo depolymerization in response to the cleavage of stimuli‐responsive end‐caps from their termini. Some classes of SIPs, including polycarbamates, have depolymerization rates that depend on environmental factors such as solvent and pH. In previous work, hydrophobic SIPs have been incorporated into amphiphilic block copolymers and used to prepare nanoassemblies. However, stimuli‐responsive hydrophilic blocks have not previously been incorporated. In this work, we synthesized amphiphilic copolymers composed of a hydrophobic polycarbamate SIP block and a hydrophilic poly(2‐(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate) (PDMAEMA) block connected by a UV light‐responsive linker end‐cap. It was hypothesized that after assembly of the block copolymers into nanoparticles, chain collapse of the PDMAEMA above its lower critical solution temperature (LCST) might change the environment of the SIP block, thereby altering its depolymerization rate. Self‐assembly of the block copolymers was performed, and the depolymerization of the resulting assemblies was studied by fluorescence spectroscopy, dynamic light scattering, and NMR spectroscopy. At 20 °C, the system exhibited a selective response to the UV light. At 65 °C, above the LCST of PDMAEMA, the systems underwent more rapid depolymerization, suggesting that the increase in rate arising from the higher temperature dominated over environmental effects arising from chain collapse. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The synthesis of a thermoresponsive hydrogel of poly(glycidyl methacrylate‐coN‐isopropylacrylamide) (PGMA‐co‐PNIPAM) and its application as a nanoreactor of gold nanoparticles are studied. The thermoresponsive copolymer of PGMA‐co‐PNIPAM is first synthesized by the copolymerization of glycidyl methacrylate and N‐isopropylacrylamide using 2,2′‐azobis(isobutyronitrile) as an initiator in tetrahydrofuran at 70 °C and then crosslinked with diethylenetriamine to form a thermoresponsive hydrogel. The lower critical solution temperature (LCST) of the thermoresponsive hydrogel is about 50 °C. The hydrogel exists as 280‐nm spheres below the LCST. The diameter of the spherical hydrogel gradually decreases to a minimum constant of 113 nm when the temperature increases to 75 °C. The hydrogel can act as a nanoreactor of gold nanoparticles because of the coordination of nitrogen atoms of the crosslinker with gold ions, on which a hydrogel/gold nanocomposite is synthesized. The LCST of the resultant hydrogel/gold nanocomposite is similar to that of the hydrogel. The size of the resultant gold nanoparticles is about 15 nm. The hydrogel/gold nanocomposite can act as a smart and recyclable catalyst. At a temperature below the LCST, the thermoresponsive nanocomposite is a homogeneous and efficient catalyst, whereas at a temperature above the LCST, it becomes a heterogeneous one, and its catalytic activity greatly decreases. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The thermosensitivity of biodegradable and non‐toxic amphiphilic polymer derived from a naturally occurring polypeptide and a derivative of amino acid was first reported. The amphiphilic polymer consisted of poly(γ‐glutamic acid) (γ‐PGA) as a hydrophilic backbone, and L ‐phenylalanine ethyl ester (L ‐PAE) as a hydrophobic branch. Poly(γ‐glutamic acid)‐graft‐L ‐phenylalanine (γ‐PGA‐graft‐L ‐PAE) with grafting degrees of 7–49% were prepared by varying the content of a water‐soluble carbodiimide (WSC). γ‐PGA‐graft‐L ‐PAE with a grafting degree of 49% exhibited thermoresponsive phase transition behavior in an aqueous solution at around 80°C. The copolymers with grafting degrees in the range of 30–49% showed thermoresponsive properties in NaCl solution. A clouding temperature (Tcloud) could be adjusted by changing the polymer concentration and/or NaCl concentration. The thermoresponsive behavior was reversible. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Coil‐globule transition of poly(N‐tert‐butylacrylamide‐co‐acrylamide) P(NTBAM‐co‐AM) copolymers is investigated in the aqueous solution and in the mixture of water–methanol by micro ATR‐FTIR spectroscopy technique. In this study the microstructure and its changes in the hydration states of the distinct groups of these copolymers are investigated by micro ATR/FTIR technique. The results showed that by heating the solution above the LCST hydrogen bonding between C?O and water was decreased but the hydrogen bonding between polymeric chains increased, which prove the aggregation of polymer chain during phase separation. The chemical shifts of IR bands are also studied in the mixture of water–methanol. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part B: Polym Phys 48: 356–363, 2010  相似文献

In this article, the preparation of fluorescent nanohybrids with core–shell structure and metal‐enhanced fluorescence (MEF) effect was presented. The fluorescent core–shell nanohybrids were prepared using silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) as cores and fluorophore tethered thermoresponsive copolymers with tunable lower critical solution temperature (LCST) from 15 to 90 °C as shells. These thermoresponsive copolymers were synthesized by the random copolymerization of oligo(ethylene oxide) acrylate and di(ethylene oxide) ethyl ether acrylate using reversible addition–fragmentation chain transfer polymerization and grafted on to AgNPs surface via Ag–S coordination interaction. By thermal manipulation of polymer spacer between AgNPs and fluorophores, the tunable MEF was achieved. It was also revealed that the fluorescent nanohybrids would exhibit maximal MEF when the polymerization degree was tuned to 350. The manipulation of the solution temperatures below and above LCST resulted in switchable MEF behavior. In addition, the phase transition process of the thermoresponsive copolymer was also studied by MEF effect using this fluorescent core–shell nanohybrid design. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Linear and crosslinked polymers based on N‐isopropylacrylamide (NIPAAm) exhibit unusual thermal properties. Aqueous solutions of poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAAm) phase‐separate upon heating above a lower critical solution temperature (LCST), whereas related hydrogels undergo a swelling–shrinking transition at an LCST. A linear copolymer made of NIPAAm/acryloxysuccinimide (98/2 mol/mol) and two hydrogels with different hydrophilicities were prepared. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy was employed to determine the transition temperature and provide insights into the molecular details of the transition via probing of characteristic bands as a function of temperature. The FTIR spectroscopy method described here allowed the determination of the transition temperature for both the linear and crosslinked polymers. The transition temperatures for PNIPAAm and the gel resulting from the crosslinking with polylysine or N,N′‐methylenebisacrylamide (MBA) were in the same range, 30–35 °C. For the gels, the transition temperature increased with the hydrophilicity of the polymer matrix. The spectral changes observed at the LCST were similar for the free chains and the hydrogels, implying a similar molecular reorganization during the transition. The C H stretching region suggests that the N‐isopropyl groups and the backbone both underwent conformational changes and became more ordered upon heating above the LCST. An analysis of the amide I band suggests that the amide groups of the linear polymer were mainly involved in hydrogen bonding with water molecules below the LCST, the chain being flexible and disordered in a water solution. During the transition, around 20% of these intermolecular hydrogen bonds between the polymer and water were broken and replaced by intramolecular hydrogen bonds. Similar changes were also observed at the LCST of a gel crosslinked with MBA. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci B: Polym Phys 38: 907–915, 2000  相似文献

Photoreactive and thermoresponsive N‐isopropylacrylamide (NIPAM)–surfmer copolymer hydrogels containing 4,4′‐di(6‐sulfato‐hexyloxy)azobenzene (DSHA) dianions are described. The functional hydrogels are obtained in a two steps. First a micellar aqueous solution of (11‐(acryloyloxy)undecyl)trimethylammonium bromide (AUTMAB) and NIPAM is exposed to 60Co‐gamma irradiation, and a thermoresponsive copolymer gel is obtained. Second, DSHA is included by shrinking the gel at 50 °C and subsequent reswelling in an aqueous solution of DSHA disodium salt at 20 °C. Reswelling is accompanied by electrostatic adsorption of DSHA dianions at the positively charged AUTMAB headgroups replacing the bromide ions. Gels containing trans‐DSHA are transparent yellow at room temperature (λmax = 370 nm), while gels containing cis‐rich DSHA are orange (λmax = 460 and 330 nm). Energy dispersive X‐ray measurements indicate that 41% of the bromide ions are exchanged if trans‐DSHA is used for adsorption, and only 7.5% if cis‐DSHA is used. The incorporation of DSHA lowers the lower critical solution temperature (LCST) from 34 to 32 °C. Below the LCST, DSHA can be switched from the trans‐ to the cis‐rich state and vice versa upon irradiation with UV (λ = 366 nm) or visible light (λ ≥ 450 nm). Above the LCST no photoreaction takes place.  相似文献

The addition of mixture of polystyrene‐b‐poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PS‐b‐PNIPAM) and polystyrene homopolymer (h‐PS) in tetrahydrofuran dropwise into water leads to nanoparticles with a PS core and a thermally sensitive PNIPAM shell. The effects of the ratio of the homopolymer to copolymer and temperature on the formation and stabilization of the dispersion were investigated by using a combination of static and dynamic laser light scattering. PNIPAM shell continuously collapses as temperature increases in the range 20–40 °C. Such formed particles are stable even at temperatures much higher than lower critical solution temperature (LCST ~ 32 °C) of PNIPAM. Our results reveal that the area occupied per hydrophilic PNIPAM chain on the hydrophobic PS core remains nearly a constant regardless of the amount of h‐PS in the polymer mixture. This clearly indicates that the surface area occupied per hydrophilic group is a critical parameter for stabilizing particles dispersed in water. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of random copolymers of N‐isopropylacrylamide (NIPAM) and sodium 2‐acrylamido‐2‐methyl‐1‐propanesulphonate (AMPS) was synthesized by free‐radical copolymerization. The content of AMPS in the copolymers ranged from 1.1 to 9.6 mol %. The lower critical‐solution temperature (LCST) of copolymers in water increased strongly with an increasing content of AMPS. The influence of polymer concentration on the LCST of the copolymers was studied. For the copolymers with a higher AMPS content, the LCST decreased faster with an increasing concentration than for copolymers with a low content of AMPS. For a copolymer containing 1.1 mol % of AMPS the LCST dropped by about 3 °C when the concentration increased from 1 to 10 g/L, whereas for a copolymer containing 9.6 mol % of AMPS the LCST dropped by about 10 °C in the concentration range from 2 to 10 g/L. It was observed that the ionic strength of the aqueous polymer solution very strongly influences the LCST. This effect was most visible for the copolymer with the highest content of AMPS (9.6 mol %) for which an increase in the ionic strength from 0.2 to 2.0 resulted in a decrease in the LCST by about 27 °C (from 55 to 28 °C), whereas for the copolymer containing 1.1 mol % of AMPS the LCST decreased only by about 6 °C (from 37 to 31 °C) when the ionic strength increased from 0.005 to 0.3. The reactivity ratios for the AMPS and NIPAM monomer pairs were determined using different methods. The values of rAMPS and rNIPAM obtained were 11.0–11.6 and 2.1–2.4, respectively. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 39: 2784–2792, 2001  相似文献

Physically crosslinked hydrogels based on N‐vinylcaprolactam/acrylic acid and N‐vinylcaprolactam/methacrylic acid were prepared via free radical polymerization. These temperature responsive hydrogels were characterized in terms of glass transition, phase separation temperature, potentiometric titration and swelling properties. Results showed that phase transition temperature was dependent on the pH value of the solution; increasing pH led to higher lower critical solution temperature (LCST) values which was related to the dissociative behaviors of the carboxylic group of MAc in the buffered solutions. Additionally, with the incorporation of N,N‐dimethylacrylamide into the system, cloud point measurements and MDSC showed an increased in the LCST. This increase was based on hydrophilicity, the hydrophilic–hydrophobic balance was disturbed, and consequently, the LCST behavior was shifted. The pKa of the copolymers ranged between 5.6 and 6.5, while for the terpolymers pKa ranged between 5.3 and 6. At high pH (>10), the ? COOH group is deprotonated and negatively charged (? COO?), while at low pH (1–3) the carboxylic group remains protonated which results in hydrogen bonding between the hydroxyl groups (from NaOH) and the excess of HCl. These results correlate with swelling studies where above the pKa value the hydrogels dissolved rapidly compared to below pKa they did not dissolve at all. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Glass transition, cold crystallization, and melting of freeze‐dried poly(L‐lactide) (PLLA) prepared from dilute 1,4‐dioxane solutions were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Conventional DSC measurements of heating scans revealed that freeze‐dried PLLA prepared from a 0.07 wt % solution undergoes a two‐step cold crystallization (or reorganization) with a lower exotherm appearing at about 78 °C and with a higher broad exotherm between 110–155 °C. The peak temperature of the former exotherm is about 50 K lower than that observed for a reference bulk sample. Step‐scan mode DSC, which provides information essentially equivalent to that obtained from the temperature‐modulated DSC, revealed that the glass‐transition temperature is about 6 K lower than that of the reference bulk. These findings suggest enhanced chain mobility for freeze‐dried PLLA. Freeze‐dried PLLA that crystallized at 80 °C for 40 min was revealed to contain a rather large amount of rigid amorphous material (42%). © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of the biodegradable copolyester hydrogels was prepared using a redox‐initiated polymerization with a constant 1:9 mole ratio of the Boltorn‐based acrylate and diacrylate triblock comacromonomers. The Boltorn® macromonomer was derived from the hyperbranched polyester Boltorn H20, which was functionalized at each terminus with poly(ethylene glycol) acrylate, and the diacrylate triblock macromonomer was poly (lactide‐b‐ethylene glycol‐b‐lactide) diacrylate. The hydrolysis of the copolyesters at pH 7.4 in a phosphate buffered saline solution at 37 °C was studied using ATR‐FTIR spectroscopy. It was found that the presence of the Boltorn, the PEG, and lactide block lengths both play vital roles in determining the structure‐property relationships in these materials. The ATR‐FTIR studies showed that with increasing lactide segment length, the rate of ester hydrolysis increased due to the increased concentration of the hydrolytically sensitive poly(lactic acid) (PLA) ester groups in the network. However, incorporation of Boltorn into the PLA‐PEG‐PLA copolymer did not significantly change the kinetic rate constant for hydrolysis of the PLA segments. The cytocompatibility of a typical one of these materials in the presence of its degradation by‐products was assessed using cultured osteoblasts from the rat. The hydrogel was degraded for 28 days and found to be cytocompatible with osteoblasts over days 23 to 28 of the hydrolysis period. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. We prepared well‐defined diblock copolymers of thermoresponsive poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide‐coN,N‐dimethylacrylamide) blocks and biodegradable poly(D ,L ‐lactide) blocks by combination of reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer radical (RAFT) polymerization and ring‐opening polymerization. α‐Hydroxyl, ω‐dithiobenzoate thermoresponsive polymers were synthesized by RAFT polymerization using hydroxyl RAFT agents. Biodegradable blocks were prepared by ring‐opening polymerization of D ,L ‐lactide initiated by α‐hydroxyl groups of thermoresponsive polymers, which inhibit the thermal decomposition of ω‐dithioester groups. Terminal dithiobenzoate (DTBz) groups of thermoresponsive blocks were easily reduced to thiol groups and reacted with maleimide (Mal). In aqueous media, diblock copolymer products formed surface‐functionalized thermoresponsive micelles. These polymeric micelles had a low critical micelle concentration of 22 μg/L. In thermoresponsive studies of the micelles, hydrophobic DTBz‐surface micelles demonstrated a significant shift in lower critical solution temperature (LCST) to a lower temperature of 30.7 °C than that for Mal‐surface micelles (40.0 °C). In addition, micellar LCST was controlled by changing bulk mixture ratios of respective heterogeneous end‐functional diblock copolymers. Micellar disruption at acidic condition (pH 5.0) was completed within 5 days due to hydrolytic degradation of PLA cores, regardless of showing a slow disruption rate at physiological condition. Furthermore, we successfully improved water‐solubility of hydrophobic drug, paclitaxel by incorporating into the micellar cores. © Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this study, novel biodegradable materials were successfully generated, which have excellent mechanical properties in air during usage and storage, but whose structure easily disintegrates when immersed in water. The materials were prepared by melt blending poly(L ‐lactic acid) (PLLA) and poly(butylene adipate‐co‐terephthalate) (PBAT) with a small amount of oligomeric poly(aspartic acid‐co‐lactide) (PAL) as a degradation accelerator. The degradation behavior of the blends was investigated by immersing the blend films in phosphate‐buffered saline (pH = 7.3) at 40 °C. It was shown that the PAL content and composition significantly affected morphology, mechanical properties, and hydrolysis rate of the blends. It was observed that the blends containing PAL with higher molar ratios of L ‐lactyl [LA]/[Asp] had smaller PBAT domain size, showing better mechanical properties when compared with those containing PAL with lower molar ratios of [LA]/[Asp]. The degradation rates of both PLLA and PBAT components in the ternary blends simultaneously became higher for the blends containing PAL with higher molar ratios of [LA]/[Asp]. It was confirmed that the PLLA component and its decomposed materials efficiently catalyze the hydrolytic degradation of the PBAT component, but by contrast that the PBAT component and its decomposed materials do not catalyze the hydrolytic degradation of the PLLA component in the blends. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
