The complete Navier-Stokes equations are used to calculate supersonic perfect gas flow past a circular isothermal cylinder by the method described in [1]. The effects of the Mach number M=2.5–10 and the Reynolds number Re=30-105 on the flowfield structure and heat transfer to the cylinder wall are investigated. The problem of flow past a permeable cylinder at low Reynolds numbers is of interest for the solution of a number of problems in chemical technology in, for example, the design of porous electrodes and porous catalysts and in the calculation of nonstationary filtration of aerosols by fibrous filters. In the present paper, we solve the problem of transverse flow of a viscous fluid past a continuous cylinder in a porous shell and, in particular, in the case of a porous cylinder under conditions of constrained flow (system of cylinders) and an isolated cylinder at arbitrary permeability. In the framework of the Navier-Stokes equations, a numerical solution is found to the problem of longitudinal (axisymmetric) flow of a viscous perfect heat conducting gas past a cylinder with a flat front end at subsonic and transonic velocities of the oncoming flow. The flow in the neighborhood of the corner of the cylinder is investigated and a study made of the occurrence and development of detached flow along the side of the cylinder. Tie heat fluxes to the surface of the cylinder are determined, and the influence of the temperature of the wall of the cylinder on the development of the separation is found. A large number of investigations have been carried out to study the aerodynamic characteristics of grids and permeable plates completely covering a pipe section [1]. The theoretical bases of the external aerodynamics of permeable bodies are established in [2], where the concept of a uniformly permeable surface is introduced and the problem of flow past a permeable plate at a small angle of attack is solved. Papers [3, 4] are devoted to the solution of problems of a jet flow of ideal incompressible fluid past a permeable wedge and a plate. The flow past a wedge with a high degree of permeability at low subsonic velocities was investigated theoretically and experimentally in [5]. Papers [6, 7] are devoted to the experimental investigation of the aerodynamic characteristics of plates and disks at low subsonic velocities. The results of the experimental investigations of permeable bodies are given in [8]. The surface vorticity method (SVM), which is a fast and practical grid-free two-dimensional (2-D) method, and a fluid–structure interaction model incorporating the effects of cylinder motions and displacements is used to simulate the vortex-induced vibration of cylinder arrays at sub-critical Reynolds number Re=2.67×104. The SVM is found to be most suitable for simulating a 2-D cylinder row with large-amplitude vibrations where the vorticity field and the fluid forces of the cylinder row change drastically, and the effect of the stream on the transverse direction vibration is very significant. The fluidelastic instability of a flexible cylinder row at small pitch ratio is also investigated, and the critical reduced velocity of the cylinder row at a reduced damping parameter SG=1.29 is calculated, which is in good agreement with experimental and analytical results of the unsteady model. Vortex-induced vibration of a staggered cylinder array is simulated using different structural parameters. When the cylinders are relatively more flexible, the flow pattern changes dramatically and the fluid–structure interaction has a dominant impact on the flow field. Compared with grid-based methods, the grid-free SVM is a fast and practical method for the simulation of the FIV of cylinder arrays due to vortex shedding at sub-critical Reynolds numbers.  相似文献

The flow structure around the free-end region of two adjacent finite circular cylinders embedded in an atmospheric boundary layer (ABL) was investigated experimentally. The experiments were carried out in a closed-return-type subsonic wind tunnel, in which two finite cylinders with an aspect ratio of 6 were mounted vertically on a flat plate in a side-by-side arrangement. The Reynolds number based on the cylinder diameter was about Re=2×104. Systems with gap ratios (i.e., center-to-center distance/cylinder diameter) in the range 1.0–2.0 were investigated. A hot-wire anemometer was employed to measure the wake velocity, and the mean pressure distribution on the cylinder surface was also measured. The flow past two finite cylinders was found to have a complicated three-dimensional wake structure in the region near the free ends. As the gap ratio increases, regular vortex-shedding becomes dominant, but the length of the vortex formation region decreases. The pressure distribution and flow structure around two cylinders were found to differ substantially from the behavior of a two-dimensional circular cylinder due to mutual interference. The three-dimensional flow structure seems to originate from the strong entrainment of irrotational fluids caused by the downwash counter-rotating vortices separated from the finite cylinder (FC) free ends.  相似文献

The experimental results of studying the effect of homogeneous stratification of the fluid on the conditions of generation of a Kárman vortex street [1] developing in the wake of a cylinder in steady horizontal motion are described. In a homogeneous medium at Reynolds numbers Re >5 two symmetrical regions of vorticity of opposite sign are formed behind the cylinder and move together with the latter. As the speed of the cylinder increases, the link between the vortices and the cylinder grows weaker, the vortices are stretched out along the flow and at Re > 40 begin to separate alternately, forming a vortex street in the wake. At first, the frequency of vortex separation increases sharply with increase in Re, but then levels off. It is found that in a uniformly stratified fluid the onset of vortex separation from the moving cylinder is delayed. The dependence of the critical Reynolds number (onset of vortex separation) on the internal Froude number is obtained. The effect of stratification of the fluid on the frequency of separation of the vortices in the Kármán street is investigated. Steady incident flow past a circular cylinder for sub- to supercritical Reynolds number has been simulated as an unsteady Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes (RANS) equation problem using nonlinear eddy-viscosity modelling assuming two-dimensional flow. The model of Craft et al. (Int. J. Heat Fluid Flow 17 (1996) 108), with adjustment of the coefficients of the ‘cubic’ terms, predicts the drag crisis at a Reynolds number of about 2×105 due to the onset of turbulence upstream of separation and associated changes in Strouhal number and separation positions. Slightly above this value, at critical Reynolds numbers, drag is overestimated because attached separation bubbles are not simulated. These do not occur at supercritical Reynolds numbers and drag coefficient, Strouhal number and separation positions are in approximate agreement with experimental measurements (which show considerable scatter). Fluctuating lift predictions are similar to sectional values measured experimentally for subcritical Reynolds numbers but corresponding measurements have not been made at supercritical Reynolds numbers. For oscillatory ambient flow, in-line forces, as defined by drag and inertia coefficients, have been compared with the experimental values of Sarpkaya (J. Fluid Mech. 165 (1986) 61) for values of the frequency parameter, β=D2T, equal to 1035 and 11240 and Keulegan–Carpenter numbers, KC=U0T/D, between 0.2 and 15 (D is cylinder diameter, ν is kinematic viscosity, T is oscillation period, and U0 is the amplitude of oscillating velocity). Variations with KC are qualitatively reproduced and magnitudes show best agreement when there is separation with a large-scale wake, for which the turbulence model is intended. Lift coefficients, frequency and transverse vortex shedding patterns for β=1035 are consistent with available experimental information for β≈250−500. For β=11240, it is predicted that separation is delayed due to more prominent turbulence effects, reducing drag and lift coefficients and causing the wake to be more in line with the flow direction than transverse to it. While these oscillatory flows are highly complex, attached separation bubbles are unlikely and the flows probably two dimensional.  相似文献

The supersonic perfect-gas flow past a circular cylinder is studied on the basis of a numerical analysis of the time-dependent two-dimensional Reynolds equations using a differential q– turbulence model with reference to the experimental conditions. The calculations are carried out at Reynolds and Mach numbers Re=2× 105 and M=1.1, 1.3, and 1.7 and the experimental investigations at Re=1.62×105–2×105 and Mach numbers on the interval 0.7 M 1.7. The calculated and experimental data on the pressure coefficient distribution over the cylinder surface, the location of the separation point on the surface, and the pressure drag coefficient are compared.  相似文献

The shadow and interferometric methods and the laser probe method are used to investigate crossflow past a cylinder on the free-stream Mach number interval M a =0.5–1.2 for subcritical Reynolds numbers Re d and various initial steam states. Detailed pressure distributions are obtained and the pressure fluctuations on the cylinder surface are measured. The dependence of the Strouhal number on the velocity and thermodynamic parameters of the flow are determined. In single-phase steam flow past a cylinder the greatest fluctuations occur in the separation zone in regimes corresponding to transonic drag crisis. It is shown that spontaneous condensation in the turbulent wake and local supersonic zones may cause an increase in the periodic pressure fluctuations in the separation zone, the maximum increase in the fluctuations being noted when the critical pressure ratio is reached at the rear of the cylinder. The initial wetness of the steam has the greatest effect on the periodic separation characteristics at subsonic flow velocities, and in the case of supersonic flow leads to a substantial increase in the level of the low-frequency pressure fluctuations at the front of the cylinder.(deceased)Moscow. Several theoretical and experimental studies of supersonic flow past a blunt body located in the wake behind another body have been made [1–7]. It has been shown that a reverse-circulation flow can occur in the shock layer at the front surface. The possibility of such a flow forming depends on the nonuniformity of the freestream flow and the Reynolds number. This paper presents new results of the theoretical study of the structure of the shock wave at the front surface of such a sphere, obtained on the basis of numerical solution of Navier-Stokes equations. It is shown that for a fixed nonuniformity of the freestream flow, an increase in the Reynolds number and cooling of the surface of the body lead to the formation of a secondary vortex in the region where the contour of the body intersects the axis of symmetry. A study is made of the variations of the drag and heat transfer parameters over the front surface of a cooled and thermally insulated sphere. An experimental investigation was made of the flow of a viscous incompressible liquid in a trench of square transverse cross section, using a laser Doppler velocimeter. The investigation was made with two values of the Reynolds number Re, corresponding to laminar and turbulent flow conditions in the channel. The experimental data show that a core with a constant vorticity is formed in the trench, that a jet propagates near the walls of the trench, and that there are secondary eddies in the corners of the trench. The motion of a viscous liquid in a trench of rectangular cross section is part of a broad class of breakaway flows. Experimental data on the investigation of flow in trenches are extremely few. A majority of the existing information is limited to visual observations [1–4]. In [2, 5, 6] the question of the unstable character of flow in trenches was discussed. Quantitative measurements of stable eddy flows in trenches were made in [7–9] using a thermoanemometer, and in [7] measurements were made of the pressure at the bottom and walls of trenches; there are data on the distribution of the velocity in the middle sections of trenches. In [8] the mean velocity, the intensity of the turbulence, and the stress of the turbulent flow were obtained in several sections parallel to the side walls of the trench, In [9] a measurement was made of the velocities also in two cross sections of a trench in which one component of the velocity prevails. The results are given of an experimental investigation of the supersonic axisymmetric flow over a body consisting of a spherical segment joined to an inverted cone in the neighborhood of the point of inflection of the profile (Fig. 1a). For the limiting case of a cylinder with a flat end and M = 3, a study was made of the influence of the Reynolds number and the state of the boundary layer on the parameters of the local separation region formed near the inflection (Fig. 1b). It was found that there is an appreciable decrease in the length of the separation region and the pressure in it when the Reynolds number increases in the range Re = 105– 107 in the case of a laminar boundary layer on the flat end near the inflection point. A low level of the pressure on the surface of the body was achieved — of the order of thousandths of the pressure behind a normal shock. There was found to be a sharp increase in the pressure in the separation region when the boundary layer on the end becomes turbulent with transition to a flow regime that is self-similar with respect to the Reynolds number. The problem of supersonic viscous gas flow past two-dimensional bodies (the circular cylinder in particular) was examined in [1, 2]. In what follows we present some results for the case of axisymmetric blunt bodies, obtained with the use of the same method. The calculations were made to determine the aerodynamic characteristics of the flow for small Reynolds numbers; it was assumed that the equations of continuum mechanics remain valid. In the case of sufficiently small Reynolds numbers, when the applicability conditions of this method may be violated, it is natural to consider the numerical results obtained as being formal. There are approximate approaches to the study of viscous flow in the vicinity of a blunt-nose ([3–5] and others); in those cases when this is possible, a comparison is made with some of these theoretical results, and also with experimental data.  相似文献

An experimental study was made on convective heat and mass transfer from a horizontal heated cylinder in a downward flow of air-water mist at a blockage ratio of 0.4. The measured local heat transfer coefficients agree fairly well with the authors' numerical solutions obtained previously for the front surface of a cylinder over the ranges mass flow ratio 0–4.5×10−2, a temperature difference between the cylinder and air 10–43 K, gas Reynolds number (7.9–23)×103, Rosin-Rammler size parameter 105–168 μm, and dispersion parameter 3.4–3.7. Heat transfer augmentation, two-pahse to single-phase of greater than 19 was attained at the forward stagnation point. For heat transfer in the rear part of the cylinder, an empirical formula is derived by taking into account the dimensionless governing variables, that is, coolant-feed and evaporation parameters.  相似文献

In order to reduce the drag of bodies in a viscous flow it has been proposed to apply to the surface exposed to the flow a layer of magnetic fluid, which can be retained by means of a magnetic field and thus act as a lubricant between the external flow and the body [1, 2]. In [1] the hydrodynamic drag of a current-carrying cylindrical conductor coated with a uniform layer of magnetic fluid was theoretically investigated at small Reynolds numbers. In order to simplify the equations of motion, the Oseen approximation was introduced for the free stream and the Stokes approximation for the magnetic fluid [3]. This approach has led to the finding of an exact analytic solution from which it follows that at Reynolds numbers Re 1 the drag of the cylinder can be considerably reduced if the viscosity of its magnetic-fluid coating is much less than the viscosity of the flow. The main purpose of the present study is to investigate, with reference to the same problem, how the magnetic-fluid coating affects the hydrodynamic drag at Reynolds numbers 1 Re 102–103, i.e., under separated flow conditions. Only a few studies have been devoted to the experimental study of the initial stage of the motion of a liquid from the state of rest in a closed delivery conduit [1]. It can be concluded on the basis of the results of these studies that at the beginning of the process the mechanical energy losses are smaller than in quasistationary flow. These studies also suggest that the laminar nature of the flow persists in the nonstationary flow. However, investigations are of an integral nature and therefore in them the flow structure is not determined. In the present study the development of the motion of the liquid in a delivery conduit from the state of rest is investigated. The tangential frictional stresses at the wall of the conduit, measured by the thermal anemometric method, show that the transitional Reynolds number, at which the laminar flow regime changes into turbulent, depends on the acceleration of the flow and far exceeds the critical value for the case of the stationary flow. At maximum acceleration of the flow equal to 11.78 m/sec2 the transition of the laminar regime to the turbulent at the wall of the conduit occurs at Re = 234, 500. Self-similar solutions are obtained in [1, 2] to the Navier-Stokes equations in gaps with completely porous boundaries and with Reynolds number tending to infinity. Approximate asymptotic solutions are also known for the Navier-Stokes equations for plane and annular gaps in the neighborhood of the line of spreading of the flow [3, 4]. A number of authors [5–8] have discovered and studied the effect of increase in the stability of a laminar flow regime in channels of the type considered and a significant increase in the Reynolds number of the transition from the laminar regime to the turbulent in comparison with the flow in a pipe with impermeable walls. In the present study a numerical solution is given to the system of Navier-Stokes equations for plane and annular gaps with a single porous boundary in the neighborhood of the line of spreading of the flow on a section in which the values of the local Reynolds number definitely do not exceed the critical values [5–8]. Generalized dependences are obtained for the coefficients of friction and heat transfer on the impermeable boundary. An experimental investigation of the transition of a laminar flow regime into a turbulent one has been carried out in [1] for a flow in a circular pipe which is organized due to injection through the porous lateral surface with a jammed leading end of the pipe. It was established as a result that injection leads to an increase in stability of the laminar flow regime and increases the Reynolds number of the transition to 10,000 instead of the value 2300 which is characteristic of flow in a circular pipe with impenetrable walls. A similar effect was discovered in [2], in which it was also obtained that the Reynolds number of stability loss under the action of injection can take values significantly larger than in pipes with impenetrable walls. The phenomenon of relaminarization of a turbulent flow in the initial section of a circular pipe under the action of injection has been experimentally detected at the entrance for relatively low Reynolds numbers in [3, 4]. Theoretical investigations of stability of flow with injection have been performed only for a plane channel [5, 6]. The flow past an interface piercing circular cylinder at the Reynolds number Re=2.7×104 and the Froude numbers Fr=0.2 and 0.8 is investigated using large-eddy simulation. A Lagrangian dynamic subgrid-scale model and a level set based sharp interface method are used for the spatially filtered turbulence closure and the air-water interface treatment, respectively. The mean interface elevation and the rms of interface fluctuations from the simulation are in excellent agreement with the available experimental data. The organized periodic vortex shedding observed in the deep flow is attenuated and replaced by small-scale vortices at the interface. The streamwise vorticity and the outward transverse velocity generated near the edge of the separated region, which enforces the separated shear layers to deviate from each other and restrains their interaction, are primarily responsible for the devitalization of the periodic vortex shedding at the interface. The lateral gradient of the difference between the vertical and transverse Reynolds normal stresses, increasing with the Froude number, is the main source of the streamwise vorticity and the outward transverse velocity at the interface.  相似文献
