A theoretical study of forced convective film condensation inside vertical tubes is presented. We propose a unified procedure for predicting the pressure gradient and condensation heat transfer coefficient of a vapor flowing turbulently in the core and associated with laminar or turbulent film on the tube wall. The analysis for the vapor flows is performed under the condition that the velocity profiles are locally self-similar. The laminar and turbulent film models equate the gravity, pressure and viscous forces, and consider the effect of interfacial shear. The transition from laminar to turbulent film depends not only on the liquid Reynolds number but also on the interfacial shear stress. In this work we also proposed a new eddy viscosity model which is divided into three regions: the inner region in liquid condensate near the wall; the interface region including both liquid and vapor; and the outer region for the vapor core. Comparisons of the theory with some published experimental data showed good agreement.

The finite volume method with exact two‐phase Riemann problems (FIVER) is a two‐faceted computational method for compressible multi‐material (fluid–fluid, fluid–structure, and multi‐fluid–structure) problems characterized by large density jumps, and/or highly nonlinear structural motions and deformations. For compressible multi‐phase flow problems, FIVER is a Godunov‐type discretization scheme characterized by the construction and solution at the material interfaces of local, exact, two‐phase Riemann problems. For compressible fluid–structure interaction (FSI) problems, it is an embedded boundary method for computational fluid dynamics (CFD) capable of handling large structural deformations and topological changes. Originally developed for inviscid multi‐material computations on nonbody‐fitted structured and unstructured grids, FIVER is extended in this paper to laminar and turbulent viscous flow and FSI problems. To this effect, it is equipped with carefully designed extrapolation schemes for populating the ghost fluid values needed for the construction, in the vicinity of the fluid–structure interface, of second‐order spatial approximations of the viscous fluxes and source terms associated with Reynolds averaged Navier–Stokes (RANS)‐based turbulence models and large eddy simulation (LES). Two support algorithms, which pertain to the application of any embedded boundary method for CFD to the robust, accurate, and fast solution of FSI problems, are also presented in this paper. The first one focuses on the fast computation of the time‐dependent distance to the wall because it is required by many RANS‐based turbulence models. The second algorithm addresses the robust and accurate computation of the flow‐induced forces and moments on embedded discrete surfaces, and their finite element representations when these surfaces are flexible. Equipped with these two auxiliary algorithms, the extension of FIVER to viscous flow and FSI problems is first verified with the LES of a turbulent flow past an immobile prolate spheroid, and the computation of a series of unsteady laminar flows past two counter‐rotating cylinders. Then, its potential for the solution of complex, turbulent, and flexible FSI problems is also demonstrated with the simulation, using the Spalart–Allmaras turbulence model, of the vertical tail buffeting of an F/A‐18 aircraft configuration and the comparison of the obtained numerical results with flight test data. In this paper, the creation and annihilaton of turbulent eddies are described aselementary particles in the quantum field theory. An elementary particle may be consideredas a solid entity as it exists in quantum theory, but a turbulent eddy is often changed in sizeand shape with time due to its energy dissipation in a turbulent field. Therefore,in order toapply the method of the quantum field theory to the turbulent field by analogy, the entity ofthe same eddy should be defined firstly.According to the linearized theory, the turbulenteddies with the similarity character in lime duration may be considered as the entity of thesame eddy, and the creation and annihilation of turbulent eddies without the similarcharacters are related to the interaction term φ_2 in equation(2.6).Then,the creationoperator and annihilation operator similar to those in the quantum field theory are used todescribe the state of turbulent eddy field. Finally,a“Schrǒdinger”equation of turbulenteddies is formulated based upon the nonline  相似文献

A generalized treatment for the wall boundary conditions relating to turbulent flows is developed that blends the integration to a solid wall with wall functions. The blending function ensures a smooth transition between the viscous and turbulent regions. An improved low Reynolds number k?ε model is coupled with the proposed compound wall treatment to determine the turbulence field. The eddy viscosity formulation maintains the positivity of normal Reynolds stresses and Schwarz' inequality for turbulent shear stresses. The model coefficients/functions preserve the anisotropic characteristics of turbulence. Computations with fine and coarse meshes of a few flow cases yield appreciably good agreement with the direct numerical simulation and experimental data. The method is recommended for computing the complex flows where computational grids cannot satisfy a priori the prerequisites of viscous/turbulence regions. A theoretical model of harmonic perturbations in a turbulent mixing layer is proposed. The model is based on the triple decomposition method. It is assumed that the instantaneous velocities and pressure consist of three distinctive components: the mean (time average), the coherent (phase average), and the random (turbulent) motion. The interaction between incoherent turbulent fluctuations and large-scale coherent disturbances is incorporated by the Newtonian eddy viscosity model. A slight divergence of the flow is also taken into account, and the results are compared with experimental data. For a high amplitude of the perturbations, the nonlinear feedback to the mean flow is taken into account by means of the coherent Reynolds stresses. The results reveal the possibility of a negative spreading rate of the mixing layer. A simultaneous consideration of the mean flow divergence and nonlinear self-interaction results in Landau-like amplitude equations. It is observed that the nonlinear term in the amplitude equation is not significant at the levels of amplitude considered. The velocity disturbance profiles of the second harmonic are also presented and, at low-level amplitude, they are in good agreement with experiments.  相似文献

In this paper, a large eddy simulation based on the lattice Boltzmann framework is carried out to simulate the heat transfer in a turbulent channel flow, in which the temperature can be regarded as a passive scalar. A double multiple relaxation time (DMRT) thermal lattice Boltzmann model is employed. While applying DMRT, a multiple relaxation time D3Q19 model is used to simulate the flow field, and a multiple relaxation time D3Q7 model is used to simulate the temperature field. The dynamic subgrid stress model, in which the turbulent eddy viscosity and the turbulent Prandtl number are dynamically computed, is integrated to describe the subgrid effect. Not only the strain rate but also the temperature gradient is calculated locally by the non-equilibrium moments. The Reynolds number based on the shear velocity and channel half height is 180. The molecular Prandtl numbers are set to be 0.025 and 0.71. Statistical quantities, such as the average velocity, average temperature, Reynolds stress, root mean square (RMS) velocity fluctuations, RMS temperature and turbulent heat flux are obtained and compared with the available data. The results demonstrate great reliability of DMRT–LES in studying turbulence.  相似文献

This work simulates a complex fluid flow in fluid–structure interaction (FSI). The flow under consideration is governed by Navier–Stokes equations for incompressible viscous fluids and modeled with the finite volume method. Large eddy simulation is used to simulate the unsteady turbulent flow. The structure is represented by a finite element formulation. The present work introduces a strongly coupled partitioned approach that is applied to complex flow in fluid machinery. In this approach, the fluid and structure equations are solved separately using different solvers, but are implicitly coupled into one single module based on sensitivity analysis of the important displacement and stress modes. The applied modes and their responses are used to build up a reduced‐order model. The proposed model is used to predict the unsteady flow fields of a 3D complete passage, involving in stay, guide vanes, and runner blades, for a Francis hydro turbine and FSI is considered. The computational results show that a fairly good convergence solution is achieved by using the reduced‐order model that is based on only a few displacement and stress modes, which largely reduces the computational cost, compared with traditional approaches. At the same time, a comparison of the numerical results of the model with available experimental data validates the methodology and assesses its accuracy. An improved near‐wall modeling for large‐eddy simulation using the immersed boundary method is proposed. It is shown in this study that the existing near‐wall modeling for the immersed boundary (IB) methods that imposes the velocity boundary condition at the IB node is not sufficient to enforce a correct wall shear stress at the IB node. A new method that imposes a shear stress condition through the modification of the subgrid scale‐eddy viscosity at the IB node is proposed. In this method, the subgrid eddy viscosity at the IB node is modified such that the viscous flux at the face adjacent to the IB node correctly approximates the total shear stress. The method is applied to simulate the fully developed turbulent flows in a plane channel and a circular pipe. It is demonstrated that the new method improves the prediction of the mean velocity and turbulence stresses in comparison with the existing wall modeling based solely on the velocity boundary condition. A dynamic subgrid-scale tensorial Eddy viscosity model   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
In the Navier-Stokes equations the removal of the turbulent fluctuating velocities with a frequency above a certain fixed threshold, employed in the Large Eddy Simulation (LES), causes the appearance of a turbulent stress tensor that requires a number of closure assumptions. In this paper insufficiencies are demonstrated for those closure models which are based on a scalar eddy viscosity coefficient. A new model, based on a tensorial eddy viscosity, is therefore proposed; it employs the Germano identity [1] and allows dynamical evaluation of the single required input coefficient. The tensorial expression for the eddy viscosity is deduced by removing the widely used scalar assumption of the high-frequency viscous dissipation and replacing it by its tensorial counterpart arising in the balance of the Reynolds stress tensor. The numerical simulations performed for a lid driven cavity flow show that the proposed model allows to overcome the drawbacks encountered by the scalar eddy viscosity models. This paper presents an experimental study of the interaction between a vortex ring and a moving wall. This type of flow can be considered as modeling, in a simplified way, the interaction between a "typical eddy" and the viscous sublayer of a turbulent boundary layer. In the present study, the vortex ring is considered as a three-dimensional (3D) perturbation of a viscous Stokes layer. The interaction was first characterized by visualization. To obtain quantitative information, digital particle image velocimetry (DPIV) and holographic particle-tracking velocimetry (HPTV) were used. These different techniques led to a precise and detailed characterization of the vortex ring alone and of an interaction in which a hairpin vortex is generated in the Stokes layer. The results obtained show a good similarity between the observed vortex ring and the Oseen model. They also validate the Stokes layer model and show that in the present conditions, the hairpin vorticity is comparable to that of the Stokes layer. The holographic study, which was undertaken to obtain full 3D three-component (3D3C) velocity maps, showed the present limitations of HPTV.  相似文献

In this paper, flows past two wing-body junctions, the Rood at zero angle of attack and NASA TN D-712 at 12.5° angle of attack, are investigated with two Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) and large eddy simulation (LES) hybrid methods. One is detached eddy simulation (DES) and the other is delayed-DES, both are based on a weakly nonlinear two-equation kω model. While the RANS method can predict the mean flow behaviours reasonably accurately, its performance for the turbulent kinetic energy and shear stress, as compared with available experimental data, is not satisfactory. DES, through introducing a length scale in the dissipation terms of the turbulent kinetic energy equation, delivers flow separation, a vortex or the onset of vortex breakdown too early. DDES, with its delayed effect, shows a great improvement in flow structures and turbulence characteristics, and agrees well with measurements.  相似文献

The one and two-point statistical structure of very high Reynolds number turbulence in the surface layer near a rigid `wall' is analysed. The essential mechanisms for turbulent eddies impinging on the wall are studied using linearised rapid distortion theory, which show how the mean shear and blocking actions of the surface act first independently and then, over the life time of the eddy, interactively. Previous analytical results are reinterpreted and some new results are derived to show how the integral length scales, cross correlations and spectra of the different components of the turbulence are distorted depending on the form of the spectra of eddies above the surface layer and how they are related to motions of characteristic eddy structures near the surface. These results are applied to derive some quantitative and qualitative predictions in the surface layers (SL), where the eddies are affected by local shear dynamics, and in the `eddy surface layer' (ESL) where quasi independents loping elongated eddies interact directly with the wall, and where there is a large range of wave number within which the spectra of the horizontal velocity components are proportional to k −1. The longest eddies in the boundary layer occur near the wall. Field experiments agree with the theoretical model predictions for the quite different forms for the spectra, cospectra and cross correlations for the vertical and horizontal components of the velocity field. By showing that in SL the energy exchange between the large and small scale eddies is local(`staircase') energy cascade, whereas in ESL there is a direct nonlocal (`elevator-like')energy transfer to the small scales, it is shown why the thickness of the ESL increases over rougher surfaces and as the Reynolds number decreases. This revised version was published online in August 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

We describe a simple method for estimating turbulent boundary layer wall friction using the fit of measured velocity data to a boundary layer model profile that extends the logarithmic profile all the way to the wall. Two models for the boundary layer profile are examined, the power-series interpolation scheme of Spalding and the Musker profile which is based on the eddy viscosity concept. The performance of the method is quantified using recent experimental data in zero pressure gradient flat-plate turbulent boundary layers, and favorable pressure gradient turbulent boundary layers in a pipe, for which independent measurements of wall shear are also available. Between the two model profiles tested, the Musker profile performs much better than the Spalding profile. Results show that the new procedure can provide highly accurate estimates of wall shear with a mean error of about 0.5% in friction velocity, or 1% in shear stress, an accuracy that is comparable to that from independent direct measurements of wall shear stress. An important advantage of the method is its ability to provide accurate estimates of wall shear not only based on many data points in a velocity profile but also very sparse data points in the velocity profile, including only a single data point such as that originating from a near-wall probe.  相似文献

A 5-point-stencil optimised nonlinear scheme with spectral-like resolution within the whole wave number range for secondary derivatives is devised. The proposed scheme can compensate for the dissipation deficiency of traditional linear schemes and suppress the spurious energy accumulation that occurs at high wave numbers, both of which are frequently encountered in large eddy simulation. The new scheme is composed of a linear fourth-order central scheme term and an artificial viscosity term. These two terms are connected by a nonlinear weight. The proposed nonlinear weight is designed based on Fourier analysis, rather than Taylor analysis, to guarantee a spectral-like resolution. Moreover, the accuracy is not affected by the optimisation, and the new scheme reaches fourth-order accuracy. The new scheme is tested numerically using the one-dimensional diffusion problem, one-dimensional steady viscous Burger’s shock, two-dimensional vortex decaying, three-dimensional isotropic decaying turbulence and fully developed turbulent channel flow. All the tests confirm that the new scheme has spectral-like resolution and can improve the accuracy of the energy spectrum, dissipation rate and high-order statistics of turbulent flows.  相似文献

Prediction of the characteristics of turbulent flows with strong streamline curvature, such as flows in turbomachines, curved channel flows, flows around airfoils and buildings, is of great importance in engineering applications and poses a very practical challenge for turbulence modeling. In this paper, we analyze qualitatively the curvature effects on the structure of turbulence and conduct numerical simulations of a turbulent Uduct flow with a number of turbulence models in order to assess their overall performance. The models evaluated in this work are some typical linear eddy viscosity turbulence models, nonlinear eddy viscosity turbulence models (NLEVM) (quadratic and cubic), a quadratic explicit algebraic stress model (EASM) and a Reynolds stress model (RSM) developed based on the second-moment closure. Our numerical results show that a cubic NLEVM that performs considerably well in other benchmark turbulent flows, such as the Craft, Launder and Suga model and the Huang and Ma model, is able to capture the major features of the highly curved turbulent U-duct flow, including the damping of turbulence near the convex wall, the enhancement of turbulence near the concave wall, and the subsequent turbulent flow separation. The predictions of the cubic models are quite close to that of the RSM, in relatively good agreement with the experimental data, which suggests that these models may be employed to simulate the turbulent curved flows in engineering applications.  相似文献
