Bond distances, dissociation energies, ionization potentials and electron affinities of 4d transition metal monoxides from YO to CdO and their positive and negative ions were studied by use of density functional methods B3LYP, BLYP, B3PW91, BPW91, B3P86, BP86, SVWN, MPW1PW91 and PBE1PBE. It was found that calculated properties are highly dependent on the functionals employed, especially for dissociation energy. For most neutral species, pure density functionals BLYP, BPW91 and BP86 have good performance in predicting dissociation energy than hybrid density functionals B3LYP, B3PW91 and B3P86. In addition, BLYP gives the largest bond distance compared with other density functional methods, while SVWN gives shortest bond distance, largest dissociation energy and electron affinity. For the ground state, the spin multiplicity of the charged species can be obtained by ± 1 of their corresponding neutral species.  相似文献

Density functional theory optimized basis sets for gradient corrected functionals for 3d transition metal atoms are presented. Double zeta valence polarization and triple zeta valence polarization basis sets are optimized with the PW86 functional. The performance of the newly optimized basis sets is tested in atomic and molecular calculations. Excitation energies of 3d transition metal atoms, as well as electronic configurations, structural parameters, dissociation energies, and harmonic vibrational frequencies of a large number of molecules containing 3d transition metal elements, are presented. The obtained results are compared with available experimental data as well as with other theoretical data from the literature.  相似文献

We have studied 4d transition metal monoboride, monocarbide, mononitride, monoxide, and monofluorides using density functional method at B3LYP/LanL2Dz level. The lowest spin state, relative stability, bond length, atomic charges, electron affinity, ionization potential, binding energy, and vibrational frequencies for these dimers are obtained. The cation and anion of these dimers are also studied. The properties of these dimers are compared. It was found that the ionization potentials for these dimers are much higher than the electron affinities of these dimers. The range of electron affinities is widest for 4d transition metal monocarbides and is narrow for 4d transition metal mononitrides. The range of ionization potential is widest for 4d transition metal monoxides and is narrow for 4d transition metal monocarbides. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Int J Quantum Chem, 2009  相似文献

Bond distances, vibrational frequencies, electron affinities, ionization potentials, dissociation energies, and dipole moments of the title molecules in neutral, positively, and negatively charged ions were studied using the density functional method. Ground state was assigned for each species. The bonding patterns were analyzed and compared with both the available data and across the series. It was found that besides an ionic component, covalent bonds are formed between the metal s,d orbitals and the silicon 3p orbital. The covalent character increases from ScSi (YSi) to NiSi (PdSi) for 3d (4d) metal monosilicides, then decreases. For 5d metal monosilicides, the covalent character increases from LaSi to OsSi, then decreases. For the dissociation of cations, the dissociation channel depends on the magnitude of the ionization potential between metal and silicon. If the ionization potential of the metal is smaller than that of silicon, channel MSi+ --> M+ + Si is favored. Otherwise, MSi+ --> M + Si+ will be favored. A similar behavior was observed for anions, in which the dissociation channel depends on the magnitude of electron affinity.  相似文献

Bond distances, vibrational frequencies, dipole moments, dissociation energies, electron affinities, and ionization potentials of MX (XM = Y-Cd, X = F, Cl, Br, I) molecules in neutral, positively, and negatively charged ions were studied by density functional method, B3LYP. The bonding patterns were analyzed and compared with both the available data and across the series. It was found that besides ionic component, covalent bonds are formed between the 4d transition metal s, d orbitals, and the p orbital of halogen. For both neutral and charged molecules, the fluorides have the shortest bond distance, iodides the longest. Although the opposite situation is observed for vibrational frequency, that is, fluorides have the largest value, iodides the smallest. For neutral and anionic species, the dissociation energy tends to decrease with the increasing atomic number from Y to Cd, suggesting the decreasing or weakening of the bond strength. For cationic species, the trend is observed from Y to Ag.  相似文献

Threshold collision-induced dissociation of M(+)(adenine) with xenon is studied using guided ion beam mass spectrometry. M(+) includes all 10 first-row transition metal ions: Sc(+), Ti(+), V(+), Cr(+), Mn(+), Fe(+), Co(+), Ni(+), Cu(+), and Zn(+). For the systems involving the late metal ions, Cr(+) through Cu(+), the primary product corresponds to endothermic loss of the intact adenine molecule, whereas for Zn(+), this process occurs but to form Zn + adenine(+). For the complexes to the early metal ions, Sc(+), Ti(+), and V(+), intact ligand loss competes with endothermic elimination of purine and of HCN to form MNH(+) and M(+)(C(4)H(4)N(4)), respectively, as the primary ionic products. For Sc(+), loss of ammonia is also a prominent process at low energies. Several minor channels corresponding to formation of M(+)(C(x)H(x)N(x)), x = 1-3, are also observed for these three systems at elevated energies. The energy-dependent collision-induced dissociation cross sections for M(+)(adenine), where M(+) = V(+) through Zn(+), are modeled to yield thresholds that are directly related to 0 and 298 K bond dissociation energies for M(+)-adenine after accounting for the effects of multiple ion-molecule collisions, kinetic and internal energy distributions of the reactants, and dissociation lifetimes. The measured bond energies are compared to those previously studied for simple nitrogen donor ligands, NH(3) and pyrimidine, and to results for alkali metal cations bound to adenine. Trends in these results and theoretical calculations on Cu(+)(adenine) suggest distinct differences in the binding site propensities of adenine to the alkali vs transition metal ions, a consequence of s-dsigma hybridization on the latter.  相似文献

We present the kinetic energy dependence of reactions of the late third-row transition metal cation Ir(+) with H(2), D(2), and HD measured using a guided ion beam tandem mass spectrometer. A flow tube ion source produces Ir(+) ions in its electronic ground state term and primarily in the ground spin-orbit level. Corresponding state-specific reaction cross sections are obtained. The kinetic energy dependence of the cross sections for forming IrH(+) and IrD(+) are analyzed to give a 0 K bond dissociation energy of D(0)(Ir(+)-H) = 3.12 +/- 0.06 eV. Ab initio calculations at the B3LYP/HW+/6-311+G(3p), BHLYP/HW+/6-311+G(3p), and QCISD(T)/HW+/6-311+G(3p) levels performed here show reasonable agreement with the experimental bond energies and with the previous theoretical values available. Theory also provides the electronic structures of these species and the reactive potential energy surfaces. We also compare this third-row transition metal system with those of the first-row and second-row congeners Co(+) and Rh(+). We find that Ir(+) has a stronger M(+)-H bond, which can be explained by the lanthanide contraction and relativistic effects that alter the relative size of the valence s and d orbitals. Results from reactions with HD provide insight into the reaction mechanisms and indicate that Ir(+) reacts largely via an insertion mechanism, in contrast with the lighter group 9 metal ions Co(+) and Rh(+) which react via direct mechanisms.  相似文献

Reactions of the late third-row transition metal cation Au(+) with H(2), D(2), and HD are examined using guided ion beam tandem mass spectrometry. A flow tube ion source produces Au(+) in its (1)S (5d(10)) electronic ground state level. Corresponding state-specific reaction cross sections for forming AuH(+) and AuD(+) as a function of kinetic energy are obtained and analyzed to give a 0 K bond dissociation energy of D(0)(Au(+)-H) = 2.13 ± 0.11 eV. Quantum chemical calculations at the B3LYP∕HW+∕6-311+G(3p) and B3LYP∕Def2TZVPP levels performed here show good agreement with the experimental bond energy. Theory also provides the electronic structures of these species and the reactive potential energy surfaces. We also compare this third-row transition metal system with previous results for analogous reactions of the first-row and second-row congeners, Cu(+) and Ag(+). We find that Au(+) has a stronger M(+)-H bond, which can be explained by the lanthanide contraction and relativistic effects that alter the relative size of the valence s and d orbitals. Results from reactions with HD provide insight into the reaction mechanism and indicate that ground state Au(+) reacts largely via a direct mechanism, in concordance with the behavior of the lighter group 11 metal ions, but includes more statistical behavior than these metals as well.  相似文献

The formation and physicochemical properties of polymer electrolytes strongly depend on the lattice energy of metal salts. An indirect but efficient way to estimate the lattice energy through the relationship between the heterolytic bond dissociation and lattice energies is proposed in this work. The heterolytic bond dissociation energies for alkali metal compounds were calculated theoretically using the Density Functional Theory (DFT) of B3LYP level with 6‐311+G(d,p) and 6‐311+G(2df,p) basis sets. For transition metal compounds, the same method was employed except for using the effective core potential (ECP) of LANL2DZ and SDD on transition metals for 6‐311+G(d,p) and 6‐311+G(2df,p) calculations, respectively. The dissociation energies calculated by 6‐311+G(2df,p) basis set combined with SDD basis set were better correlated with the experimental values with average error of ca. ±1.0% than those by 6‐311+G* combined with the LANL2DZ basis set. The relationship between dissociation and lattice energies was found to be fairly linear (r>0.98). Thus, this method can be used to estimate the lattice energy of an unknown ionic compound with reasonably high accuracy. We also found that the dissociation energies of transition metal salts were relatively larger than those of alkaline metal salts for comparable ionic radii. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. This highlight focuses on various luminescent complexes with different transition metal centres of d(6), d(8) and d(10) electronic configurations. Through the systematic study on the variation of ligands, structural and bonding modes of different metal centres, the structure-property relationships of the various classes of luminescent transition metal complexes can be obtained. With the knowledge and fundamental understanding of their photophysical behaviours, their electronic absorption and luminescence properties can be fine-tuned. Introduction of supramolecular assembly with hierarchical complexity involving non-covalent interactions could lead to research dimensions of unlimited possibilities and opportunities. The approach of "function by design" could be employed to explore and exploit the potential applications of such luminescent transition metal complexes for future development of luminescent materials.

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is becoming an important cancer treatment in recent years. However, at present, the therapeutic effect of PDT is limited due to insufficient penetration depth of light. In this study, a new photodynamic system (d ‐Lu)PCN‐224 is constructed by porphyrin‐based metal‐organic framework (MOF) PCN‐224 and bioluminescent molecule d ‐fluorescein (d ‐Lu). The bioluminescence (BL) spectrum of the reaction overlaps with the absorption spectrum of PCN‐224, so it is speculated that bioluminescence resonance energy transfer (BRET) between the MOF and d ‐Lu which indicates inner light can be gained and used for PDT. Confocal imaging analysis and cytotoxicity assays have demonstrated that (d ‐Lu)PCN‐224 can produce singlet oxygen and decrease the cell viability of SKOV‐3. This system provides a possibility of PDT for deep‐level organization without an external light source.  相似文献

Recently developed correlation consistent basis sets for the first row transition metal elements Sc-Zn have been utilized to determine complete basis set (CBS) scalar relativistic electron affinities, ionization potentials, and 4s(2)3d(n-2)-4s(1)d(n-1) electronic excitation energies with single reference coupled cluster methods [CCSD(T), CCSDT, and CCSDTQ] and multireference configuration interaction with three reference spaces: 3d4s, 3d4s4p, and 3d4s4p3d'. The theoretical values calculated with the highest order coupled cluster techniques at the CBS limit, including extrapolations to full configuration interaction, are well within 1 kcal/mol of the corresponding experimental data. For the early transition metal elements (Sc-Mn) the internally contracted multireference averaged coupled pair functional method yielded excellent agreement with experiment; however, the atomic properties for the late transition metals (Mn-Zn) proved to be much more difficult to describe with this level of theory, even with the largest reference function of the present work.  相似文献

The kinetic energy dependences of reactions of the third-row transition metal cation Hf(+) with H(2), D(2), and HD were determined using a guided ion beam tandem mass spectrometer. A flow tube ion source produces Hf(+) in its (2)D (6s(2)5d(1)) electronic ground state level. Corresponding state-specific reaction cross sections are obtained. The kinetic energy dependences of the cross sections for the endothermic formation of HfH(+) and HfD(+) are analyzed to give a 0 K bond dissociation energy of D(0)(Hf(+)-H)=2.11±0.08 eV. Quantum chemical calculations at several levels of theory performed here generally overestimate the experimental bond energy but results obtained using the Becke-half-and-half-LYP functional show good agreement. Theory also provides the electronic structures of these species and the reactive potential energy surfaces. Results from the reactions with HD provide insight into the reaction mechanisms and indicates that Hf(+) reacts via a statistical mechanism. We also compare this third-row transition metal system with the first-row and second-row congeners, Ti(+) and Zr(+), and find that Hf(+) has a weaker M(+)-H bond. As most third-row transition metal hydride cation bonds exceed their lighter congeners, this trend is unusual but can be understood using promotion energy arguments.  相似文献

This work describes a structure and kinetic stability study of some complexes with the general formula MN, where M are the alkaline earth metal atoms, Be, Mg, Ca, Sr, and Ba. A complex (A) with two points of attachment to the N5 ring is the most energetically favored for all metals considered here. Except for Be, structure (B) containing a mono‐coordinated metal atom is a transition state corresponding to the metal atom transfer around the N5 ring. Pyramidal structure (C) is kinetically unstable with the low isomerization barrier height, ranging from 0.9 to 6.7 kcal/mol. The dissociation barrier heights for the lowest energy isomers (A) are predicted to be 1.2–18.7 kcal/mol (Be to Ba), indicating that kinetic stability increases from lighter to heavier metal atoms. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Reactions of the third-row transition metal cation Os(+) with H(2), D(2), and HD to form OsH(+) (OsD(+)) were studied using a guided ion beam tandem mass spectrometer. A flow tube ion source produces Os(+) in its (6)D (6s(1)5d(6)) electronic ground state level. Corresponding state-specific reaction cross sections are obtained. The kinetic energy dependences of the cross sections for the endothermic formation of OsH(+) and OsD(+) are analyzed to give a 0 K bond dissociation energy of D(0)(Os(+)-H) = 2.45 ± 0.10 eV. Quantum chemical calculations are performed here at several levels of theory, with B3LYP approaches generally overestimating the experimental bond energy whereas results obtained using BHLYP and CCSD(T), coupled-cluster with single, double, and perturbative triple excitations, levels show good agreement. Theory also provides the electronic structures of these species and the potential energy surfaces for reaction. Results from the reactions with HD provide insight into the reaction mechanism and indicate that Os(+) reacts via a direct reaction. We also compare this third-row transition metal system with the first-row and second-row congeners, Fe(+) and Ru(+), and find that Os(+) reacts more efficiently with dihydrogen, forming a stronger M(+)-H bond. These differences can be attributed to the lanthanide contraction and relativistic effects.  相似文献

Unimolecular dissociation of aluminum, gallium and indium clusters is investigated. Small sizes dissociate into two channels: either the evaporation of a neutral or a charged monomer. Above a given size n c, only dissociation of a neutral atom subsists. The evaporation of a charged monomer is characteristic of trivalent metal clusters and is consistent with the size evolution of the ionization potential towards the atomic value. The experiments are interpreted in the framework of the statistical R.R.K. model. For smaller sizes (n < n c), as two evaporation processes are in competition, we have evaluated cluster relative dissociation energies and ionization potentials. The competition between the two evaporation channels is well mirrored by the evolution of the ionization potentials independently measured by near-threshold photoionization experiments. For gallium, our measurements have revealed that the covalent to metal transition occurs for larger sizes (n = 30–50 atoms) than for aluminum clusters.  相似文献

Cyanides and isocyanides of first-row transition metal M(CN) (M=Sc-Zn) are investigated with quantum chemistry techniques, providing predictions for their molecular properties. A careful analysis of the competition between cyanide and isocyanide isomers along the transition series has been carried out. In agreement with the experimental observations, late transition metals (Co-Zn) clearly prefer a cyanide arrangement. On the other hand, early transition metals (Sc-Fe), with the only exception of the Cr(CN) system, favor the isocyanide isomer. The theoretical calculations predict the following unknown isocyanides, ScNC(3Delta), TiNC(4Phi), VNC(5Delta), and MnNC(7Sigma+), and agree with the experimental observation of FeNC(6Delta) and the CrCN(6Sigma+) cyanide. First-row transition metal cyanides and isocyanides are predicted to have relatively large dissociation energies with values within the range 80-101 kcal mol(-1), except Zn(CN), which has a dissociation energy around 50-55 kcal mol(-1), and low isomerization barriers. A detailed analysis of the bonding has been carried out employing the topological analysis of the charge density and an energy decomposition analysis. The role of the covalent and electrostatic contributions to the metal-ligand bonding, as well as the importance of pi bonding, are discussed.  相似文献

The interaction of carbon monoxide with 3d metal dimers (scandium through zinc) has been examined using six different exchange-correlation density functionals. Results are compared to the relevant experimental values and to other theoretical investigations when available, and the overall agreement has been obtained. The BP86 functional gives calculated C-O stretching vibrational frequencies much closer to the experimental values than the B3P86, B3LYP, mPW1PW91, and PBE1PBE functionals, and furthermore, replacing the correlation part by the Lee-Yang-Parr correlation functional yields essentially the same results. It is generally found that on going from left to right across the 3d metal series, the preference for geometrical configuration is from side-on-bonded mode to bridging, and then to terminal, whereas Ni(2)CO adopts bridging mode. Particularly, the present computation reveals a significant tendency toward four-electron donor carbonyl groups with metal-oxygen bonds with the early transition metals scandium and titanium. The C-O stretching vibrational frequencies in the ground states of M(2)CO (M=Sc to Zn) increase generally from the left to the right side of the Periodic Table. The binding energies exhibit an overall decrease trend. These general trends in the interaction of carbon monoxide with 3d metal dimers mirror the main features of CO adsorption on transition metal surfaces.  相似文献

The potential energy surfaces for the reaction of first-row transition metal cations Ti(+)((4)F,(2)F), V(+)((5)D,(3)F), and Cr(+)((6)S,(4)D) with NH(3) and CH(4) have been built up by using density functional theory. In all cases, the high-spin ion-dipole complex, which is the most stable species on the respective potential energy hypersurfaces, is initially formed. In the second step, a hydrogen shift process leads to the formation of the insertion products, which are more stable in a low-spin state. From these intermediates three dissociation channels have been considered. All the results have been compared with existing experimental and theoretical data and our earlier work on the reactivity of Sc(+), to clarify similarities and differences in the behavior of the transition metal ions considered.  相似文献
