Uranium dioxide can be dissolved in supercritical CO2 with a CO2-philic TBP-HNO3 complexant to form a highly soluble UO2(NO3)(2).2TBP complex; this new method of dissolving UO2 that requires no water or organic solvent may have important applications for reprocessing of spent nuclear fuels and for treatment of nuclear wastes.  相似文献

The reaction of chlorine dioxide with excess NO(2)(-) to form ClO(2)(-) and NO(3)(-) in the presence of a large concentration of ClO(2)(-) is followed via stopped-flow spectroscopy. Concentrations are set to establish a preequilibrium among ClO(2), NO(2)(-), ClO(2)(-), and an intermediate, NO(2). Studies are conducted at pH 12.0 to avoid complications due to the ClO(2)(-)/NO(2)(-) reaction. These conditions enable the kinetic study of the ClO(2) reaction with nitrogen dioxide as well as the NO(2) disproportionation reaction. The rate of the NO(2)/ClO(2) electron-transfer reaction is accelerated by different nucleophiles (NO(2)(-) > Br(-) > OH(-) > CO(3)(2-) > PO(4)(3-) > ClO(2)(-) > H(2)O). The third-order rate constants for the nucleophile-assisted reactions between NO(2) and ClO(2) (k(Nu), M(-2) s(-1)) at 25.0 degrees C vary from 4.4 x 10(6) for NO(2-) to 2.0 x 10(3) when H(2)O is the nucleophile. The nucleophile is found to associate with NO(2) and not with ClO(2) in the rate-determining step to give NuNO(2)(+) + ClO(2)(-). The concurrent NO(2) disproportionation reaction exhibits no nucleophilic effect and has a rate constant of 4.8 x 10(7) M(-1) s(-1). The ClO(2)/NO(2)/nucleophile reaction is another example of a system that exhibits general nucleophilic acceleration of electron transfer. This system also represents an alternative way to study the rate of NO(2) disproportionation.  相似文献

Considering the short-term exposure limit of SO2 to be 5 ppm, we first time report that semiconductor sensors based on vanadium doped SnO2 can be used for SO2 leak detection because of their good sensitivity towards SO2 at concentrations down to 5 ppm. Such sensors are quite selective in presence of other gases like carbon monoxide, methane and butane. The high sensitivity of vanadium doped tin dioxide towards SO2 may be understood by considering the oxidation of sulfur dioxide to sulfur trioxide on SnO2 surface through redox cycles of vanadium-sulfur-oxygen adsorbed species.  相似文献

Scientific studies on photocatalysis started about two and a half decades ago. Titanium dioxide (TiO2), which is one of the most basic materials in our daily life, has emerged as an excellent photocatalyst material for environmental purification. In this review, current progress in the area of TiO2 photocatalysis, mainly photocatalytic air purification, sterilization and cancer therapy are discussed together with some fundamental aspects. The separation of carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane (CH4) mixture is of considerable interest in order to purify natural gas, and one suggestion is that titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanotubes might be exploited to separate a gaseous mixture of methane and carbon dioxide. In this study, we employ both Coulomb’s law and the Lennard–Jones potential to determine the total energy of adsorption CO2 and CH4 into a TiO2 nanotube. The CH4 is a nonpolar molecule, and therefore the Coulombic interaction may be neglected. The total energy of the systems is evaluated utilizing the continuous approximation, which assumes that the two gas molecules are spheres of certain radii, while the tube is modelled as a cylinder. Further, both electrostatic and van der Waals potentials are determined and expressed in the exact analytical formulae. The numerical results predict that a single molecule of CO2 or CH4 can be encapsulated into the tube. On assuming both gases may form clusters with the same proportion of atom species, a cluster of CO2 will not be adsorbed into the tube when its radius exceeds 3.32?. On the other hand, a cluster of CH4 can be encapsulated into an appropriate radius of TiO2 nanotube. These results indicate that TiO2 nanotubes may be useful in the purification of CH4.  相似文献

Crystals of tin dioxide, SnO2, have been grown pure or doped with a few percent of antimony using vapor growth methods in order to investigate the microstructures of reduced and oxidized SnO2. They were examined by X-ray diffraction and by optical and electron microscopy. SnO2 crystals were found to contain few faults, but the antimony-doped crystals were extensively twinned in some regions. Reduction of SnO2 crystals to yield CS phases was unsuccessful. These results are discussed in terms of the known crystal chemistry of the oxides involved.  相似文献

Lead dioxide coatings on inert substrates such as titanium and carbon now offer new opportunities for a material known for 150 years. It is now recognised that electrodeposition allows the preparation of stable coatings with different phase structures and a wide range of surface morphologies. In addition, substantial modification to the physical properties and catalytic activities of the coatings are possible through doping and the fabrication of nanostructured deposits or composites. In addition to applications as a cheap anode material in electrochemical technology, lead dioxide coatings provide unique possibilities for probing the dependence of catalytic activity on layer composition and structure (critical review, 256 references).  相似文献

After a review of the literature on titanium production under plasma conditions, the main parameters controlling the reactions (residence time, type and relative quantity of reducer, reaction temperature, etc.) are emphasized. The controlled-atmosphere chamber where the rutile or anatase particles are heated and partly reduced in a crucible by a d.c. plasma torch with Ar-H2 as plasma gas is described. Study of the temperature dependence of the Gibbs free energy allows one to explain, at least qualitatively, the experimental results obtained which correspond at best to 10% (weight) of TiO2 reduced to TiO by carbon.  相似文献

The synthesis of SiO2 core-TiO2 shell composites from a titanium dioxide sol and a suspension of microspherical silicon dioxide is described. The main factors ensuring the formation of a composite with a preset morphology are the size and charge of the TiO2 sol particles (10–45 nm) and silicon dioxide core particles (300–700 nm), the pH values of the suspensions of the starting components and the resulting composite, and the proportions and way of mixing of the siliconand titanium-containing components. The SiO2 core-TiO2 shell composites show high photocatalytic activity in the degradation of Rhodamine FL-BM dye (rate constant of k = 0.0813 min−1) and are much more active than precipitated TiO2 powder (k = 0.0022 min−1). The activity of the composite is determined by the calcination temperature (700–800°C), by the proportion and accessibility of the active component (TiO2), and by the presence of a dopant (P2O5).  相似文献

A biosensor consisting of a CO2-utilizing autotrophic bacterium (strain S-17, Pseudomonas type) and an oxygen-sensing electrode was constructed for the amperometric determination of CO2. The correlation between current decrease and CO2 concentration was linear in the range 5–200 mg l?1 CO2. The optimum temperature and pH for operation of the biosensor were 30°C and 5.5, respectively. The sensor did not respond to other volatile compounds except for acetic acid. The sensor could be operated continuously for about a month.  相似文献

Oxidative degradation of nylons was carried out using nitrogen dioxide (NO2) as the oxidizing agent and supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2) as the reaction medium. Seven typical nylons were studied: three ring opening polymerization type nylons (nylon-6, -11 and -12) and four condensation co-polymerization type nylons (nylon-4/6; -6/6; -6/9 and -6/12). All the nylons decomposed in the NO2/scCO2 system under relatively mild conditions (140 °C, 1 h, and 10 MPa) and provided aliphatic α, ω-diacids such as succinic, glutaric and adipic acids in good yields. The product distribution of these α, ω-diacids strongly depended on the reaction conditions such as temperature, time and amount of NO2, but not on the total pressure. Furthermore, the proportions of the products were affected by the type of nylon. A mechanism is proposed and a detailed discussion regarding the degradation of nylon in the NO2/scCO2 system is provided.  相似文献

The electronic spectrum in the region 17?500 cm(-1) to 18?850 cm(-1) of a cold molecular beam of TiO(2) has been investigated using laser induced fluorescence (LIF) and mass-resolved resonance enhanced multi-photoionization (REMPI) spectroscopy. Bands at 18?412 cm(-1), 18?470 cm(-1) and 18?655 cm(-1) were recorded at a resolution of 35 MHz, rotationally analyzed, and assigned as the ?(1)B(2) (0,1,2) ←X[combining tilde](1)A(1) (0,0,0), ?(1)B(2) (1,0,0) ←X[combining tilde](1)A(1) (0,0,0) and ?(1)B(2) (1,1,0) ←X[combining tilde](1)A(1) (0,0,0) transitions. The dispersed fluorescence from the ?(1)B(2) (0,1,2) and ?(1)B(2) (1,0,0) levels were combined with previous results to produce an improved set of vibrational parameters for the X[combining tilde](1)A(1) state. The optical Stark effect in the ?(1)B(2) (0,1,2) ←X[combining tilde](1)A(1) (0,0,0) and ?(1)B(2) (1,0,0) ←X[combining tilde](1)A(1) (0,0,0) bands were recorded and combined with earlier results for ?(1)B(2) (1,1,0) ←X[combining tilde](1)A(1) (0,0,0) to determine the permanent electric dipole moment for these states. The origin and harmonic vibrational constants for the ?(1)B(2) state are determined to be: T(000) = 17?593(5) cm(-1), ω(1) = 876(3) cm(-1), ω(2) = 184(1) cm(-1), and ω(3) = 316(2) cm(-1). A normal coordinate analysis was performed and Franck-Condon factors calculated.  相似文献

Uranium dioxide films in a hydrated form are electrodeposited unto nickel plates starting with a uranyl nitrate solution in ammonium sulfate. The process is incidental to water splitting which is the dominant electrochemical pathway and as a consequence, the uranium deposition is highly dependent on experimental parameters that require close control such as the pH and concentration of the supporting electrolyte as well as current density, and the cell design.
