New ω‐alkenyl‐substituted ansa‐bridged bisindenyl zirconium complexes are prepared and tested as self‐immobilized catalysts for ethene polymerization. But, even at very high concentration of the tethered complexes and low pressure of ethene, there is no evidence of their insertion into the polyethene chain. A “cross polymerization” test, performed by copolymerizing the tethered complexes with ethene using rac‐Me2Si(2‐MeBenzInd)2ZrCl2 ( MBI ), does not lead to their incorporation into the polyethene chain. However, the corresponding ligand proves to be a suitable comonomer for ethene, and, through copolymerization promoted by MBI, innovative poly(ethene‐co‐2,2′‐bis[(1H‐inden‐3′‐yl)‐hex‐5‐ene) copolymers are prepared and characterized by 13C NMR. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A study was made on the effects of polymerization conditions on the long‐chain branching, molecular weight, and end‐group types of polyethene produced with the metallocene‐catalyst systems Et[Ind]2ZrCl2/MAO, Et[IndH4]2ZrCl2/MAO, and (n‐BuCp)2ZrCl2/MAO. Long‐chain branching in the polyethenes, as measured by dynamic rheometry, depended heavily on the catalyst and polymerization conditions. In a semibatch flow reactor, the level of branching in the polyethenes produced with Et[Ind]2ZrCl2/MAO increased as the ethene concentration decreased or the polymerization time increased. The introduction of hydrogen or comonomer suppressed branching. Under similar polymerization conditions, the two other catalyst systems, (n‐BuCp)2ZrCl2/MAO and Et[IndH4]2ZrCl2/MAO, produced linear or only slightly branched polyethene. On the basis of an end‐group analysis by FTIR and molecular weight analysis by GPC, we concluded that a chain transfer to ethene was the prevailing termination mechanism with Et[Ind]2ZrCl2/MAO at 80 °C in toluene. For the other catalyst systems, β‐H elimination dominated at low ethene concentrations. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci A: Polym Chem 38: 376–388, 2000  相似文献

Vinylcyclohexane (VCH) was copolymerized with ethene and propene using methylaluminoxane‐activated metallocene catalysts. The catalyst precursor for the ethene copolymerization was rac‐ethylenebis(indenyl)ZrCl2 ( 1 ). Propene copolymerizations were further studied with Cs‐symmetric isopropylidene(cyclopentadienyl)(fluorenyl)ZrCl2 ( 2 ), C1‐symmetric ethylene(1‐indenyl‐2‐phenyl‐2‐fluorenyl)ZrCl2 ( 3 ), and “meso”‐dimethylsilyl[3‐benzylindenyl)(2‐methylbenz[e]indenyl)]ZrCl2 ( 4 ). Catalyst 1 produced a random ethene–VCH copolymer with very high activity and moderate VCH incorporation. The highest comonomer content in the copolymer was 3.5 mol %. Catalysts 1 and 4 produced poly(propene‐co‐vinylcyclohexane) with moderate to good activities [up to 4900 and 15,400 kg of polymer/(mol of catalyst × h) for 1 and 4 , respectively] under similar reaction conditions but with fairly low comonomer contents (up to 1.0 and 2.0% for 1 and 4 , respectively). Catalysts 2 and 3 , both bearing a fluorenyl moiety, gave propene–VCH copolymers with only negligible amounts of the comonomer. The homopolymerization of VCH was performed with 1 as a reference, and low‐molar‐mass isotactic polyvinylcyclohexane with a low activity was obtained. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Ethene was copolymerized (1) with 1,5‐hexadiene with rac‐ethylenebis(indenyl)zirconium dichloride/methylaluminoxane (MAO) used as a catalyst and (2) with 1,7‐octadiene with bis(n‐butylcyclopentadienyl)zirconium dichloride/MAO and rac‐ethylenebis(indenyl)hafnium dichloride (Et[Ind]2HfCl2)/MAO used as catalysts at 80 °C in toluene. The copolymer microstructure and the influence of diene incorporation on the rheological properties were examined. Ethene and 1,5‐hexadiene formed a copolymer in which a major fraction of the 1,5‐hexadiene was incorporated into rings and a small fraction formed 1‐butenyl branches. The copolymerization of ethene with 1,7‐octadiene resulted in a higher selectivity toward branch formation. Some of the branches formed long‐chain‐branching (LCB) structures. The ring formation selectivity increased with decreasing ethene concentration in the polymerization reactor. Melt rheological properties of the diene copolymers resembled those of metallocene‐catalyzed LCB homopolyethenes and depended on the vinyl content, the catalyst, and the polymerization conditions. At high diene contents, all three catalysts produced crosslinked polyethene. This was especially pronounced with Et[Ind]2HfCl2, where only 0.2 mol % 1,7‐octadiene in the copolymer was required to achieve significantly modified rheological properties. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Summary: Copolymerizations of propene and buta‐1,3‐diene performed in the presence of rac‐[CH2(3‐tert‐butyl‐1‐indenyl)2]ZrCl2 and methylaluminoxane (MAO) have been investigated. Buta‐1,3‐diene gives prevailingly primary coordination to the metal, producing overall 1,2 units. Cyclopropane and cyclopentane rings, although in low amounts, are also obtained. The presence of butadiene would be responsible for some regioirregular 2,1‐inserted propene units, which at high temperatures give rearrangement to 3,1 units.

Perfluorotetrahydro‐2‐methylene‐furo[3,4‐d][1,3]dioxole (monomer I ) and perfluoro‐2‐methylene‐4‐methoxymethyl‐1,3‐dioxolane (monomer II ) are soluble in perfluorinated or partially fluorinated solvents and readily polymerize in solution or in bulk when initiated by a free‐radical initiator, perfluorodibenzoyl peroxide. The copolymerization parameters have been determined with in situ 19F NMR measurements. The copolymerization reactivity ratios are r I = 1.80 and r II = 0.80 in 1,1,2‐trichlorotrifluoroethane at 41 °C and r I = 0.97 and r II = 0.85 for the bulk polymerization. These data show that this copolymerization pair has a good copolymerization tendency and yields nearly ideal random copolymers. The copolymers have only one glass‐transition temperature from 101 to 168 °C, depending on the copolymer compositions. Melting endotherms have not been observed in their differential scanning calorimetry traces, and this indicates that all the copolymers with different compositions are completely amorphous. These copolymers are thermally stable (the initial decomposition temperatures are higher than 350 °C under an N2 atmosphere) and have low refractive indices and high optical transparency from UV to near‐infrared. Copolymer films prepared by casting were flexible and tough. These properties make the copolymers ideal candidates as optical and electrical materials. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Copolymers of 2‐methylene‐1,3‐dioxepane (MDO) and methyl acrylate (MA) containing ester units both in the backbone and as pendant groups were synthesized by free‐radical copolymerization. The influence of reaction conditions such as the polymerization time, temperature, initiator concentration, and comonomer feed ratio on the yield, molecular weight, and copolymer composition was investigated. The structure of the copolymers was confirmed by 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and IR spectroscopy. Differential scanning calorimetry indicated that the copolymers had a random structure. An NMR study showed that hydrogen transfer occurred during the copolymerization. The reactivity ratios of the comonomers were rMDO = 0.0235 and rMA = 26.535. The enzymatic degradation of the copolymers obtained was carried out in the presence of proteinase K or a crude enzyme extracted from earthworms. The experimental results showed that the higher ester molar percentage in the backbone caused a faster degradation rate. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Ethene/1‐olefin blocky copolymers were obtained through nonliving insertion copolymerizations promoted by an isospecific single site catalyst. Propene or 4‐methyl‐1‐pentene were copolymerized with ethene with metallocenes endowed with different stereospecificity in propene polymerization: (i) aspecific “constrained geometry” half‐sandwich complex, {η15‐([tert‐butyl‐amido)dimethylsilyl](2,3,4,5‐tetramethyl‐1‐cyclopentadienyl)}titanium dichloride [Me2Si(Me4Cp)(NtBu)TiCl2] ( CG ), (ii) moderately isospecific rac‐ethylenebis(indenyl)zirconium dichloride [rac‐(EBI)ZrCl2] ( EBI ), (iii) slightly more isospecific hydrogenated homologue, rac‐ethylenebis(tetrahydroindenyl)zirconium dichloride [rac‐(EBTHI)ZrCl2] ( EBTHI ), (iv) highly iso‐specific rac‐[methylenebis(3‐tert‐butyl‐1‐indenyl)]zirconium dichloride [rac‐H2C‐(3‐tBuInd)2ZrCl2] ( TBI ), (v) most isospecific rac‐[isopropylidene‐bis(3‐tert‐butyl‐cyclopentadienyl)]zirconium dichloride [rac‐Me2C‐(3‐tBuCp)2ZrCl2] ( TBC ). Copolymerizations were described by a 2nd order Markovian copolymerization model and data are proposed to correlate the formation of 1‐olefin sequences with catalytic site isospecificity, made by the cooperation of organometallic complex and growing chain. Blocky copolymers were prepared over wide ranges of compositions: with any of the isospecific metallocenes when 4‐methyl‐1‐pentene was the 1‐olefin and only with the highly isospecific ones ( TBI , TBC ) when propene was the comonomer. A penultimate unit effect was observed with TBI as the metallocene, whereas a 1st order Markov model described the ethene/propene copolymerization from TBC . A moderately isospecific metallocene, such as EBI , is shown to be able to prepare blocky ethene copolymers with 4‐methyl‐1‐pentene. These results pave the way for the synthesis of new ethene based materials. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 48: 2063–2075, 2010  相似文献

Propene (P)/4‐methyl‐1‐pentene (Y) copolymers in a wide range of composition were prepared with isospecific single center catalysts, rac‐Et(IndH4)2ZrCl2 ( EBTHI ), rac‐Me2Si(2‐Me‐BenzInd)2ZrCl2 ( MBI ), and rac‐CH2(3‐tBuInd)2ZrCl2 ( TBI ). 13C NMR analysis of copolymers and statistical elaboration of microstructural data at triad level were performed. Unprecedented and surprising results are here reported. Random P/Y copolymers were prepared with the most isospecific catalyst, TBI , that is known to prepare ethene/propene and ethene/4‐methyl‐1‐pentene copolymers with long homosequences of both comonomers, whereas longer homosequences of both comonomers were observed in copolymers from the less enantioselective metallocenes EBTHI and MBI . These findings, which are against what is acknowledged in the field, can pave the way for the preparation on a large scale of random propene‐based copolymers. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Ethylene–propylene copolymerization, using [(Ph)NC(R2)CHC(R1)O]2TiCl2 (R1 = CF3, Ph, or t‐Bu; R2 = CH3 or CF3) titanium complexes activated with modified methylaluminoxane as a cocatalyst, was investigated. High‐molecular‐weight ethylene–propylene copolymers with relatively narrow molecular weight distributions and a broad range of chemical compositions were obtained. Substituents R1 and R2 influenced the copolymerization behavior, including the copolymerization activity, methylene sequence distribution, molecular weight, and polydispersity. With small steric hindrance at R1 and R2, one complex (R1 = CF3; R2 = CH3) displayed high catalytic activity and produced copolymers with high propylene incorporation but low molecular weight. The microstructures of the copolymers were analyzed with 13C NMR to determine the methylene sequence distribution and number‐average sequence lengths of uninterrupted methylene carbons. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Copolymerization of ethene and 1,3‐butadiene was conducted over SiO2‐supported CpTiCl3 catalyst using Ph3CB(C6F5)4 or B(C6F5)3 combined with triisobutylaluminium (iBu3Al) or trioctylaluminium (Oct3Al). When the copolymerization was carried out at 0°C, the Ph3CB(C6F5)4/iBu3Al and B(C6F5)3/Oct3Al systems selectively produced copolymers which contained about 0.5–2.5 mol‐% of trans‐1,4‐inserted butadiene units. The number‐average molecular weight (Mn) of the copolymers was around 80 000 with polydispersities in the range from 6 to 8. Oxidative degradation of the vinylene units with potassium permanganate decreased the Mn values to several thousands with polydispersities of ca. 2. This indicates that the butadiene units are randomly distributed in the copolymers. NMR analysis clarified that the decomposed product is a polyethene with carboxyl groups at both chain ends.  相似文献

Copolymers of ethene and 1‐octene, 1‐dodecene, 1‐octadecene, and 1‐hexacosene were carried out with [Ph2C(2,7‐di‐tertBuFlu)(Cp)]ZrCl2/methylalumoxane as a catalyst to obtain short‐chain branched polyethylenes with branch lengths of 6–26 carbon atoms. This catalyst provided high activity and a very good comonomer and hydrogen response. In this study, the influence of the length and number of the side chains on the mechanical properties of the materials was investigated. The crystalline methylene sequence lengths of the copolymers and lamellar thicknesses were calculated after the application of a differential scanning calorimetry/successive self‐annealing separation technique. By dynamic mechanical analysis, the storage modulus as an indicator of the stiffness and the loss modulus as a measure of the effect of branching on the α and β relaxations were studied. The results were related to the measurements of the polymer density and tensile strength to determine the effect of longer side chains on the material properties. The hexacosene copolymers had side chains of 24 carbons and remarkable material properties very different from those of conventional linear low‐density polyethylenes. The side chains of these copolymers crystallized with one another and not only parallel to the backbone lamellar layer, depending on the hexacosene concentration in the copolymer. The side chains crystallized even at low hexacosene concentrations in the copolymer. A transfer of these results to 16 carbons side chains in ethene–octadecene copolymers was also possible. © 2006 The Authors. Radical copolymerization of alkyl 2‐norbornene‐2‐carboxylates (alkyl = Me 1a , nBu 1b ) with alkyl acrylates (alkyl = ethyl, methyl, and n‐butyl) was investigated. Copolymerization of 1a,b with the alkyl acrylates initiated by 1,1′‐azobis (cyclohexane‐1‐carbonitrile) at 85 °C proceeded to give random copolymers, although the homopolymerization of 1a,b did not proceed efficiently under the same conditions. Typically, bulk copolymerization of 1a with ethyl acrylate in a feed ratio of 1:3 ([ 1a ]:[EA]) afforded a copolymer with Mn = 33,300 containing 19.4 mol % of 1a unit in the composition. An increase of Tg derived from the incorporation of the rigid norbornane framework was observed, although the extent of the temperature rise was rather moderate. The ternary radical copolymerization of 1a,b /alkyl acrylate/N‐phenylmaleimide proceeded to give copolymers with the three repeating units in the main chain. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The influence of ligand structure on copolymerization properties of metallocene catalysts was elucidated with three C1‐symmetric methylalumoxane (MAO) activated zirconocene dichlorides, ethylene(1‐(7, 9)‐diphenylcyclopenta‐[a]‐acenaphthadienyl‐2‐phenyl‐2‐cyclopentadienyl)ZrCl2 ( 1 ), ethylene(1‐(7, 9)‐diphenylcyclopenta‐[a]‐acenaphthadienyl‐2‐phenyl‐2‐fluorenyl)ZrCl2 ( 2 ), and ethylene(1‐(9)‐fluorenyl‐(R)1‐phenyl‐2‐(1‐indenyl)ZrCl2 ( 3 ). Polyethenes produced with 1 /MAO had considerable, ca. 10% amount of trans‐vinylene end groups, resulting from the chain end isomerization prior to the chain termination. When ethene was copolymerized with 1‐hexene or 1‐hexadecene using 1 /MAO, molar mass of the copolymers varied from high to moderate (531–116 kg/mol) depending on the comonomer feed. At 50% comonomer feed, ethene/1‐olefin copolymers with high hexene or hexadecene content (around 10%) were achievable. In the series of catalysts, polyethenes with highest molar mass, up to 985 kg/mol, were obtained with sterically most crowded 2 /MAO, but the catalyst was only moderately active to copolymerize higher olefins. Catalyst 3 /MAO produced polyethenes with extremely small amounts of trans‐vinylene end groups and relatively low molar mass 1‐hexene copolymers (from 157 to 38 kg/mol) with similar comonomer content as 1 . These results indicate that the catalyst structure, which favors chain end isomerization, is also capable to produce high molar mass 1‐olefin copolymers with high comonomer content. In addition, an exceptionally strong synergetic effect of the comonomer on the polymerization activity was observed with catalyst 3 /MAO. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Both the rac- and meso-dinuclear ansa-zirconocene catalysts (μ-C12H8{[SiPh(Ind)2]ZrCl2}2) were prepared by a coupling reaction between 2 equiv of diindenylphenylchlorosilane (rac- and meso-isomers) and 1 equiv of p-dilithiobiphenyl in diethyl ether at −80°C, followed by a successive reaction with ZrCl4 · 2THF in THF at −78°C. Polymerizations of ethene and propene were conducted in a 1 dm3 high-pressure glass reactor equipped with a mechanical stirrer at 60, 80, 100, 120, and 150°C using methylalumoxane (MAO) as cocatalyst and toluene or decahydronaphthalene as the solvent. Copolymerization of ethene and 1-octene was also checked in brief. For ethene polymerization, the meso-catalyst was found to be more active, which displayed an extremely high activity to give linear polyethene with a high molecular weight and a narrow molar mass distribution (MMD). The apparent activity increased monotonously with rising polymerization temperature from 60°C up to 150°C, indicating that the active species are stable even at a high temperature. On the other hand, both the rac- and meso-catalysts showed very poor activities for propene polymerization. However, copolymerization of ethene and 1-octene proceeded at a high speed. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J. Polym. Sci. A Polym. Chem. 36: 2269–2274, 1998  相似文献

The effect of the copolymerization temperature and amount of comonomer in the copolymerization of ethylene with 1,3‐cyclopentadiene, dicyclopentadiene, and 4‐vinyl‐1‐cyclohexene and the rac‐Et[Ind]2ZrCl2–methylaluminoxane metallocene system was studied. The amount of comonomer present in the reaction media influenced the catalytic activity. Dicyclopentadiene was the most reactive comonomer among the cyclic dienes studied. In general, copolymers synthesized at 60 °C showed higher catalytic activities. Ethylene–dicyclopentadiene copolymers with high comonomer contents (>9%) did not show melting temperatures. 1,3‐Cyclopentadiene dimerized into dicyclopentadiene during the copolymerization, giving a terpolymer of ethylene, cyclopentadiene, and dicyclopentadiene. A complete characterization of the products was carried out with 1H NMR, 13C NMR, heteronuclear chemical shift correlation, differential scanning calorimetry, and gel permeation chromatography. © 2002 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. The copolymerization of ethylene with triphenylamine (TPA)‐containing α‐olefin monomer 1 using a rac‐Et(Ind)2ZrCl2 ( EBIZr )/MAO catalytic system was investigated to prepare polyethylene with pendent TPA groups. Despite the presence of a large excess of TPA moieties, the polymerization reactions efficiently produce copolymers of high‐molecular‐weight with the comonomer incorporation up to 6.1 mol % upon varying the comonomer concentration in the feed. Inspection of the aliphatic region of the 13C‐NMR spectrum and the estimated copolymerization parameters (r 1 ≈ 0 for 1 and rE ≈ 43 for ethylene) reveal the presence of isolated comonomer units in the polymer chain. While UV–vis absorption measurements of the copolymers show an invariant absorption feature, PL spectra exhibit a slightly red‐shifted emission with increasing content of 1 in the polymer chain. All the copolymers show high thermal stability (Td5 > 436 °C), and the electrochemical stability toward oxidation is also observed. Particularly, the copolymer displays hole‐transporting ability for the stable green emission of Alq3 when incorporated into the hole‐transporting layer of an electroluminescence device. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Ethene homopolymerization and copolymerization with 1‐hexene were performed with three new tetramethyldisilylene‐bridged zirconocene catalysts with 2‐indenyl ligand ( A ), 2‐tetrahydroindenyl ligand ( B ), and tetramethyl‐cyclopentadienyl ligand ( C ) and with methylaluminoxane as a cocatalyst. Catalysts A and B showed substantial comonomer incorporation, resulting in a copolymer melting temperature more than 20° lower than that of the corresponding homopolymer. In contrast, catalyst C produced a copolymer with a low 1‐hexene content and a high melting temperature. The reduction in the molecular weight with 1‐hexene addition also correlated well with the comonomer incorporation. For all three catalysts, the homopolymer and copolymer unsaturations indicated frequent chain termination after 1‐hexene insertion and a high degree of chain‐end isomerization during the homopolymerization of ethene. The chain transfer to Al in the cocatalyst also appeared to be important. The comonomer response could be correlated with the structural properties of the catalyst, as derived from quantum chemical calculations. A linear model, calibrated against recent experiments with unbridged (MenC5H5?n)2ZrCl2 catalysts, suggested that the low comonomer incorporation obtained with catalyst C was caused partly by a narrow opening angle between the aromatic ligands and partly by steric hindrance in the transition state of comonomer insertion. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Commercial zeolite acid mordenite was thermally treated for use as a support for bis(n‐butyl‐cyclopentadienyl)zirconium dichloride [(n‐BuCp)2ZrCl2] for the further evaluation of ethylene/1‐hexene copolymerization. The polymerization time, temperature, and solvent, as well as the addition of tri(isobutyl)aluminum in the hexane medium, were evaluated. The catalytic activity and 1‐hexene content in the copolymer synthesized with the supported system were very near those obtained with the homogeneous precursor. A comonomer effect was observed for both systems. The polymerization rate profiles were obtained for ethylene polymerization, and the activation energy and monomer reactivity were calculated. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Cp2ZrCl2 confined inside the supercage of NaY zeolites [NaY/methylaluminoxane (MAO)/Cp2ZrCl2] exhibited the shape and diffusion of a monomer‐controlled copolymerization mechanism that strongly depended on the molecular structure of the monomer and its size. For the ethylene–propylene copolymerization, NaY/MAO/Cp2ZrCl2 showed the effect of the comonomer on the increase in the polymerization rate in the presence of propylene, whereas the ethylene/1‐hexene copolymerization showed little comonomer effect, and the ethylene/1‐octene copolymerization instead showed a comonomer depression effect on the polymerization rate. Isobutylene, having a larger kinetic diameter, had little influence on the copolymerization behaviors with NaY/MAO/Cp2ZrCl2 for the ethylene–isobutylene copolymerization, which showed evidence of the shape and diffusion of a monomer‐controlled mechanism. The content of the comonomer in the copolymer chain prepared with NaY/MAO/Cp2ZrCl2 decreased by about one‐half in comparison with that of Cp2ZrCl2. A differential scanning calorimetry study on the melting endotherms after the successive annealing of the copolymers showed that the copolymers of NaY/MAO/Cp2ZrCl2 had narrow comonomer distributions, whereas those of homogeneous Cp2ZrCl2 were broad. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
